26.05. 3L of plain tap water added to 3L of leftover fertilizer solution from last week. PH adjusted to 6.2 and fed to the plants. Only minimal/no drain. Did a massive defoliation - Pictures after their dark cycle rest. Not sure whether the net was a good idea. I thought they will now stretch a lot in height, but its not that crazy. The net made defoliation very difficult, in the end I even did stop at plant 3 even though I wanted to take more off on her. The new Gloria 5 pressure sprayer was a good investment. It takes a while to apply the 6L, but reaching the plants was way more easy, no spilling onto the leaves and it was very evenly distributed. Due to the slow watering, you can really time it well and have no/minimal drainage. My guess is that it also holds nutrition better and does not flush them down as much as other types of watering. The pressure did move the earth a bit if you come close to the surface, but still less than pouring fast with a bottle/watering can With one round of pumping you can apply roughly 2L of water. Did remove almost all LST wire. It did not have any effect anymore and was annoying during defoliation. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx 27.05. No water today Did move the fan to other side as adviced did try to bend a few side branches towards the middle and took a few leaves to give more light to lower sites. No chance moving the main cola, the stem is rock hard and maybe moves half a cm...πŸ’ͺ plant 3 finally shows sex Yesterday big defoliation and today my mind already goes.. "could remove this leave and that and maybe this too?" pretty sure I'll have to do another round in a few days... xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx 28.05. No water today Leaves are a bit droopy today, especially at plant 1 Dont think that it is due to water issues. surface still feels somewhat moist and I dont think that I am overwatering either... Best guess would be that plants got used to 50-62% humidity during the weeks of rain, now it stopped raining and humidity did drop to slightly above 40% pretty fast, so sudden change of VPD? xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx 29.05. Plants just were very thirsty. Looks like a bit of moisture isnt enough anymore and I have to water every 2-3 days now. So I gave 7L plain PH adjusted water in total (PH: 6.1 - 22Β°C) Stems are firm again after a few hours and leaves also recover. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx 30.05. No water today Plants did recover very well and now look really healthy again. Purple stems still remain on plant 1 though Will have to defoliate again soon. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx 31.05. Probably have to water again, some of the stems start to feel weak again and plant 1 starts to droop. Will wait a few hours till night to be sure though. Very good development, plants grew almost 3 cm yesterday. Did set up a second fan in opposite direction to the first one to get more air flow evenly at every plant. Felt like plant 1 didnt get enough air/movement after moving the fan. Also did set up some yellow sticky traps again, just for early detection xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx 01.06. early in the morning I gave 6L tap water to plant 1+2 till runoff PH:6.2 plant 1 needs fertilizer next time. EC of runoff barely was above my tap water plant 2 runoff EC: 0.94 Did wait till evening, so that the plants can recover and then I did end the week with a big defoliation to improve air flow and light penetration. Plants dont look too happy about defoliation. Was hard to reach especially plant 3 in the corner and I did bend some of the buds of plant 2 by accident. But I guess they will recover from that soon. Also gave around 1.8L water to plant 3 in the evening till tiny bit runnoff. guess half of a day wasnt enough. She doesnt drink as much as the other two... Did not measure runoff EC of plant 3 probably will skip her in the next feeding round anyways as she is so much behind plant 1 And it is again raining like crazy. together with watering, the humidity did rise slightly above 60% temperatur stays lowish for june around 24-25Β° in the box. Plants grow very fast in the last days. Either its the stretch or it is because of the good VPD due to high humidity/lowish temp

Grow Questions

Hi, first grow here. My automatics are at their 16th day above ground. I think I have to top one of my plants to keep her height in check. Where and when should I top her? should I rather only do LST or maybe even wait for now (but they are automatics, so I should be quick?)?

With Autoflowers you want to avoide as much stress to the plant as possible because you are on a set time of growth before its flower. Topping is considered stressful to the plant. However, some people do this and have good success. Personally I always LST my Autoflowers and they turn out amazing. If I were you, I would simply pull down the plant to level out the canopy and keep pulling down the branches as they grow. This will open it up and cause more branches to get better light and in return produce amazing colas all over. You can check out my Banana Purple Punch Diary to see how I LST my plants and then what they grew up to be. I hope this helps.

Looks like my plants are growing towards the wall and not towards the middle where the light should be the best. Why do the plants behave like that and what should I do? Raise the net, rotate some of the plants, then redo the net? Remove the net completely? leave it as it is?

Actually plants tend to be taller when there is lack of light... If in the middle you have the brightest light that's normal that branches remain shorter. Plant in the right corner stretched the most in the grow tent corner area. Wild guess - she receives less light because of the fan. Just measure PPFD in different parts of your grow tent and you'll see. You have to rotate plants. Try alternate position of the fan.

what should I do? history: 21.05. Water with full dose of fertilizer ... 26.05. Soil really dry - Water with half dose of fertilizer 27.05. Plants look super healthy (24Β°C 55-60%RLF) 28.05. started to droop (27Β°C 40-45%RLF) 29.05. even worse, (25Β°C 45%RLF), surface still moist

Make sure to get 10-20% run off each time you irrigate too, this is essential for plant/soil health.

2 of my 3 plants are a bit yellow-ish at the top since about a week. Plant 1 also had a couple of sick leaves at the bottom that I did remove. Those leaves had brown/dark spots, felt dry like paper, had very purple stems and did smell more like hay. More info in my report.

Your plants are showing over feeding and deficiency symptoms. You probably have nutrients lock out due to salt build up. Check your run off EC and pH to confirm, flash the medium, adjust feeding.

Your plants are looking nice and healthy. Barely any leaf tip "burn" either, which everyone seems to have at least a little. I think you are watering fine. You keep great track of everything and seems to have everything dialed and are on point. A prolonged dryback could have negative effects but it doesn't look like your plants got at a dangerously dry level that would affect your yield or anything. Sometimes a little stress will produce larger and better quality buds. Have fun growing!

@Kosyjuana1, thank you for your kind words. 😘 One thing I did notice yesterday is that the drooping starts a few hours before their night time. The whole day the leaves were flat and stiff and around 3-4h before night time the drooping did start. I'll try reducing the amount of light to 18/6.. maybe 4h of recovering isnt enough for the plants and they just become tired before their night time?

Your watering seems good. The plants will handle way much better Dry period then overwatering. That's exactly what Im doing with mine flowers since I was overwatering my first-grow. When the leaves wilt/drops then they are just thirsty and it's time for watering. I do this like that with my grow now because of the fungus gnats (so I want dry period all the time tbh) and plants (now in flowering) sucking the water out of the soil like crazy. I water everyday now, around 0.5L water. Maybe bit more, maybe bit less. The pots are light like feathers every second day, completely dry.

@emanresU, I am not sure about that. Sure, I wont kill my plants.. But the day where they were extremely drooping, they had almost no growth and then they did need half a day to fully recover. After that, they did grow 3 cm yesterday. So to me it feels like I lost around 1 day of development drying them out like that. You are true that dry is better than overwatering and I am still scared of that, but on the other hand I want to find that sweetspot where they are just able to develop with full power

yo, lookin good. I have just noticed you are using plastic pots (very similar to mine) and the problem with them is that they hold water/humidity/wetness for weeks... I thought Im watering a little bit every 3-4 days but it turns out it's all wet soil under the first 1-2cm of dried soil. I got Fungus Gnats because of that.
taprootArmy
taprootArmy
@emanresU, but isnt that the point to keep the water? If it is evaporating, then it is just increasing humidity. Maybe good in veg, but in flower I'd rather have the water in the pots and not in the air. I dont have any problems with my plastic pots no pests and no soil temp or overwatering issues and watering once a week also saves quite a bit of time fabric pots lying around too, probably will try them in the next grow, but my first impression is that I prefer plastic btw. I have nematodes and neem oil lying around too, so I am prepared IF fungus gnats show up, but in fact I think plastic pots are indeed better against fungus gnats, because you can have a dry surface for much longer as the bottom half stays moist longer = less frequent watering

Looks nice, I hope #3 will also be a succes, maybe she's just a lil bit shy and needs more time. Good Luck!

@Elyxion, Thanks, but plant 3 is not only late. She shows a lot of mutations. Leafs are really deformed, the whole plant is not symmetrical and kinda looks sick. It already started at germination with her strange asymmetrical cotyledons. I might give her a few additional days, but probably will remove her out of fear that the weak plant attracts pests that could also affect the two healthy plants.

Sick LST bruh! I'm curious how your grow is gonna turn out a the end tbh :)

@emanresU, thanks 😘 Canopy could by more flat/even... currently trying to fill the middle without having to remove the net. I already did damage one or two small shoots while weaving plants into the net, so I'd rather not un- and redo the whole thing. I'd be more gentle at first with my LST next time, but be more harsh later on. Plant 1 (lower amount of LST at first) did react MUCH better than plant 2 (as much LST as I could without having to fear a break) Besides that, pretty pleased with my grow so far.

@James, thanks. growth is a bit slower than I did expect seeing other timelapse videos from more experienced growers, but still ok for first grow I hope. Plant 3 does worry me a bit
