Excited to say I'll be growing out a bunch of Humboldt Seed Company's stuff. I've always heard great things about them but never have had a chance to run their gear. I've got the Hella Jelly, All Gas OG, Blueberry Muffins, Gigfoot Glue, and Apple Blossom, but I think I'll start with the Hella Jelly first.
As always, we germinate using the glass of water/paper towel method. She popped no issue and went directly into our small planter. I didn't have happy frog on hand, so I mixed light warrior with a little bit of ocean forest.
Excited to see what this plant does! I've heard it has the growth traits of an indica but the effect of a sativa!
First week of the Hella Jelly and she seems to be doing just fine. Not too thrilled about having Ocean Forest in my container, but it doesn't seem like its too hot for this seedling just yet.
Just water until she is ready for transplant. Probably will do that after week 2 sometime. I plan on putting her in a 10 gallon with amended and reused soil. This is my first time reusing soil, so hopefully everything goes well!
Normal growth on the Hella Jelly. A few spots on her leaves from light damage after getting her wet, but no big deal. Going to transplant in a few days.
Transplanted her this week. Sprinkled some myco on her roots before putting her in the 10 gallon fabric pot. This is the first time I'll be using re-ammended soil. Mixed about 70 gallons of soil with a bunch of Craft Blend and worm castings. Sprayed it down with water and left it to cook for 4 weeks or so. Hopefully I don't have any issues.
It seems like she is definitely stressed from the transplant. I'm pretty sure the issue is how wet the soil is. Should have dried it out before planting in it really. Hopefully she bounces back quickly.
A week of slow growth. Figured out the reason for the transplant shock and subsequent stunting. The soil I've used was way to wet. Haven't needed to water her for a week straight now, will probably go on two weeks.
That being said, she's starting to bounce back nicely. Decided to top her this week as she;s looking a bit better.
The pot was still a bit wet, so she got 2 full weeks without any watering. She has fully bounced back and is growing wonderfully now.
This is a very pretty plant. Lots of defined ridges on her fan leaves. Very uniform and symmetrical growth with purple striping upon her stems.
Her two new tops have grown long enough to be trained, so I'll likely be LSTing her come next week. I'm not really looking for a set time to push her into flower, but a set size. I want a big girl to give me big flowers, so I'll grow her in veg as long as I need. Maybe another two or three weeks should do it.
Gunna feed her craft blend next watering which will probably be in a few days. See you next week!
Fed her half a cup of craft blend this week and started trainer her. She looks like she's loving life.
Going to train her for a another week or so, then flip.
She is responding very well to training. Filling out nicely with nice even tops. Seeing a bit of calmag deficiency maybe? Think I'm going to flip next week. Will feed about twice as much and then later next week put the net up.
Holy crap she's taken off. Full stretch now. As of day 63 she is starting to put off a good amount of pistils. Seems she likes her nutes and environment. Started lollipopping her and will probably prune her one last time starting early next week.
Really excited about this plant. She looks wonderful and I can't wait to smell her buds!
Week two of flower and she is really taking off. She continues to stretch and pistils are growing everywhere. Probably getting hungry, I fed her with craft blend this week. Pruned some of her bottom branches too.
She's chunking up fast! Her stretch has slowed down considerably and now she is packing on weight! I also notice some leaf damage which looks like it could be a calmag or phosphorous deficiency. Fed her some organic gem fish fertilizer and going to brew up a compost tea next week.
her smell is starting to come in. it smells like an actual fuckin' jolly rancher. Really excited to see her buds mature.
I'm pretty impressed with the speed of this plant. She's only in week 4 of flower and it feels like its week 6. Her buds are chunking up and its easy to see the progress in growth day to day.
She isn't very pungent yet, however upon rubbing her sugar leaves you get a deep grape jolly rancher smell. Its quite uncanny.
She is well into a fade, many leaves starting to turn yellow. Some of the leaves are crispy and have signs of nutrient deficiencies which is a bit concerning. I've upper the amount of Liquid Gem she gets.
Another week gone by. I can tell she's only got maybe another 2-3 weeks left, although probably sooner than later. She's starting to get chunky. Starting to see more and more pistils brown which is an indication that she's coming to a close, but there are still many new white pistils forming.
Upped the amount of nutes slightly as she's starting to fade pretty hard. She's on track to finish just fine. I'm very impressed with this plant. Smell level is pretty low.
Week 6 of flower gone by and she continues to chunk up. Just feeding water now and its quite apparent that she's quickly fading. Many leaves have faded and become shriveled and she is drinking alot less.
Her buds are nearly full size. There is still a good amount of new pistil growth but for the most part its slowed down, with the new calyxes forming into foxtails.
As you can see, many of the sugar leaves and calyxes have turned a beautiful shade of purple. If not for some of the shriveled and brown leaves, she would look even more wonderful. A thick coating of frost covers her buds.
Looking into the microscope, most of the trichomes are milky with some clear and some amber. I could pull her now and get a great result, but I think I'll let her go for a bit longer. Maybe we harvest next week!
Above average density, size, and frosty nugs. Produced nice buds, even towards the bottom. Not too pungent but smells of grape jolly ranchers. Very vigorous growth and very short flowering time. Had the flowering time of an indica but the morphology of a sativa. Not bushy at all and very easy to train and maintain. You will not have to defoliate much. Harvested 200 grams exactly for a total time of 15 weeks.
Effect is hybrid like with a heavier lean towards sativa. Definitely a great smoke at anytime during the day or night. Tastes like it smells.
Overall I'm incredibly impressed with the Hella Jelly from HSC and I would HIGHLY recommend you try them out. Definitely one of my all time favorite plants and I will be trying out other cultivars from HSC.
Welp, its harvest time. I am not disappointed in the least with this girl and I am stoked to finish her up. More amber trichs are showing and foxtailing is beginning, so its about time to chop.
Hella yeah. Schöne Buds. Der geruch und Geschmack ist bei der Hella Jelly mit das leckerste was ich in 30 Jahren gesehen habe. I grow the Donutz (normal fem.) and hope for some sweetness. Bin da voll der sweettooth. Happy Harvest.
@Stony_German, Ty! I can't believe how sweet it smells! Definitely one of the most unique aroma's I've come across. It makes me want to buy a few jolly ranchers just to compare smells 😃
Your donutz looks incredible so far too. 💪 Excited to see the end result 😎
Do you feel like flavor or potency fell off with that beautiful fade.
I have a nice big outdoor plant. I’m constantly seeing letting it run as close to October 2st as possible.
Better couch like?
@DmbTexasRanger, Not at all. I think I could have gone another few days to a week and the potency and flavor would have been fine.
The effect is definitely sativa like. No couch lock at all. Good to smoke at all hours.
Good luck with your outdoor friend.
