A good buddy of mine referred me to this site, so here i am! Welcome to my 1st grow on GrowDiaries! After a year long hiatus, I decided to make a return in light of Legalization :) Off to a bit of a rough start as I failed to germinate 3 seeds successfully (2 WWs and 1 unknown) FINALLY got lucky with my last Early Vixen seed from Crop King Seeds. Had a really successful grow with Early Vixen in the past, so hoping I can reproduce similar if not better results on my 2nd attempt with this strain. Aiming to get my DWC equipment sanitized and setup this weekend, which includes: 5 Gal bucket + lid with 5" Mesh pot, (2) Medium Air Stones, HEC pellets (grow medium), air tubes, and air pump. Also need to order new Carbon Filters for intake/exhaust. Stoked for this grow since I've invested in a decent water filter, the HydroLogic Small Boy, and a new LED Light :) Oh the joys of growing!
Greetings! Apologies for the late entry; had a pretty busy weekend, to the point where I neglected Early Vixen entirely, and came back to a sad, deflated, LIMP seedling laying on it's side! I noticed that the Rapid Rooter was completely dried out, so I immediately drenched it with water and checked the water level in the bucket, and then it hit me... this is entirely my fault. Prior to the weekend, the Rooter was drenched in water for a couple of days straight, so I turned down the air pump and scooped out 3 cups of water. Turns out I scooped out one too many cups and the reduced air was not bubbling enough water up onto the HEC medium. After making the necessary adjustments, it took about a day but she was back to normal. Looking forward to getting RapidStart in the mix this weekend. OH! My HydroLogic Smallboy finally came in!!! It's going to be a good weekend :) **EDIT: Forgot to mention that I'm using an old LED Mars Grow Light + (1) T5 Fluorescent. Looking to upgrade to a stronger LED (1000W+) plus an additional T5 or 3 :)
Word of advice to the n00bs out there: Don't second guess yourself and be patient!
Awesome week in terms of growth. I'm certain the stress from last week will add a week to veg time. Had to shake the rust off, but I think I've finally got all the DWC components in place, including nutes which I'm feeding at half strength. Definitely jumped the gun though early on; should have kept the seedling under 24hr light for another few days before dropping into the bucket. Hoping for another solid week of growth! Looks like my PH-80 is broken :( so need to get one asap. Light and Air Filters should be coming in this week 😄
Didn't think you'd see me again, huh?
:)
First off, Merry Christmas and a Happy, Healthy, Prosperous 2019 !
Apologies to those who've been following. Rest assured I've taken pics and keeping notes in a separate journal.
So.
Lots has happened.
12/16 - Temps are getting too warm in the bucket. As a result, noticed some potential pythium on the base of my roots (see pic) Panic ensues. Start pouring hours into researching how to eradicate and preventative measures. Some say it's nute stain (Floralicious Plus) but I'm convinced it's pyth. I've been getting abnormal growth with a couple of the leaves. I'm sure you could spot them out upon closer inspection. Two weeks later I think I've found the solution. More on that later.
12/17 - New Light came in :) Phlizon 900W from Amazon. My previous light from Mars Hydro (400W ~ 197 "true" watts) had more than half the leds burn out, so figured it was time to upgrade haha I will be reaching out to their customer support to see if they can help me out somehow. Not expecting much really. Also picked up snazzy new glasses. My eyes no longer feel like burning after working in the tent!
12/19 - Smoked a fatty with a good buddy of mine, and brainstormed how to lower the res temps. Came up with this (see pics) Basically I'm drawing in filtered, cold winter air via an A/C window exhaust duct and pointing it directly onto my air pump, which is designed to draw ambient air in through it's base. Within a couple hours, temps went from 76 to 69 :DDD Thank you Jizzy Swizzle (rap moniker lol) & Old Man Winter!
12/23 - Main-Lining Time!! Followed Nugbuckets guide (Thank you Nugbuckets!) In retrospect, I should've let my mains grow out a day or 2 more before tying down. Also, in comparison to my last grow with EV, she didn't rebound as quickly.
Will take pics with Fluorescent lighting going forward.
12/27 - 4 days after Main-Lining, I'm seeing very small progress. Decided to release the Mains as they still haven't fully turned up to face the light. I believe this comes down to a couple of factors: 1) the Pyth! 2) Not waiting an additional day or 2 for the mains to grow out before tying down. I also decided to do a flush on my last nute change using Flora Shield & FloraKleen, as well as physically clean the Pyth off the roots with pressurized filter water.
12/29 - At my wits end with the Pyth. Stumbled upon this post in the past, but have decided to finally give it a go: https://www.rollitup.org/t/dwc-root-slime-cure-aka-how-to-breed-beneficial-microbes.361430/
This is only a preventative measure since I'm growing in DWC with Synthetic Nutes; really shines in a Soil/Soiless grow with Organics. Would be great to try this in a coco mix some day.
Made a trip down the local hydro store and picked up EWC (and a bunch of other goodies, including a commercial grade air pump!, hydro equipment, Mother's Molassas, Air Stones & fresh Lines). Found Hygroguard from Holland Industry online, and Myco-Grow from Blue Sky Organics :) Will be brewing a batch as soon as Hydroguard gets in.
12/30 - BROKE A STEM :( Tried doing some LST and broke one of the mains. Quickly patched up with electrical tape and prayed to the Ganja Gods! Giving cloning a try for the first time as well. Didn't want the precious cuttings to go to waste this time. Seems fun!
**UPDATE**
1/5 - The Broken branch appears to have miraculously healed itself :D (see pics) Truly magical. Growth on that side is evidently slowed but it's growing (no complaints!) so I'll be doing some light LST on the other side to maintain an even canopy + added 20g weights to each end!
Did a nute change today at 1/2 strength (repeating Week 3 of GH Flora Series Simple minus Floralicious Plus). HydroGuard has finally arrived, but won't have time to start brewing until tomorrow.
Lots of updates!
Introducing the Heisenberg "Compost Tea" tonight (10:30PM will be the 48 hour mark) Will stick with the GH 3 Part Flora Series nutes and save the last of my RapidStart for cloning/germinating. For feed schedule, I'll be moving over to Transition week. Really excited to see what happens!
Performed the last topping of the (4) mains, for a total of (8). Will continue to weigh down branches and LST until the canopy evens out. As per Nugbuckets Guide, I should kick it into flower when the plant is at least 16" from the lid.
Bought a small Ultrasonic Humidifier to bring it up to at least 45%-55%. Currently staggering around the high 30s > It's working! Hovering around 50% :)
Hoping to get some posts up by mid week. Looking forward to lots of healthy white roots! Have a good one folks! 👍
8th week of Veg. I want to say I lost at least a week and a half to root-related issues prior to/during the initial phase of Main-Lining. Since introducing the Tea, she has bounced back within 2-3 days of any toppings/bending, so all seems back to normal. Check out dem roots! Hoping to kick into flower by next week 🙏
The Heisenberg Tea has saved me :) No more funky leaves and stunted growth. She's very responsive to the Tea. I'll upload a picture from January 5th w/o Tea, then one from January 19th, a week after adding the Tea (January ~12th)
The original thread is found here: https://www.rollitup.org/t/dwc-root-slime-cure-aka-how-to-breed-beneficial-microbes.361430/
Definitely worth a read of you're having root issues in a DWC setup. I've created an account to post my success story and praise to Mr. Heisenberg and all those responsible. Highly recommend this tea, and look forward to using it in an organic coco grow down the road.
Flower Time! 😍
She's stretched about a foot since I flipped the lights a couple days ago. Also turned on the "Bloom" mode on my LED Light :) Super bright! Continually monitored the canopy to try and keep everything level. Got creative with clips and plant ties. I'm very excited.
I'm feeding the GH Drain-to-Waste Transition Week at 1/2 strength (GH 3-Part) and Heisenberg Tea. Nothing else. Might decide to amp up to 3/4 or full strength once I see hairs :)
Check out those roots. Wow. Very happy camper over here.
Not much else to say for this week. Stay tuned for the good stuff 🙏
Apologies for the pics with grow lights. Didn't have a chance to take some under more natural light.
Canopy has kept relatively even over the flowering stretch. Had to do minimal LST to keep her in check.
She's up to 28" and it looks like I'll get another inch or 2 tops (hopefully!)
Lots of white hairs started forming by mid week. Much excite!
Feeding the GH Early Bloom Week 5 @ 3/4 strength minus RapidStart and Floralicious Plus.
Forgot to get a shot of the roots but trust me it's looking gooood :)
Looking forward to her filling out in the coming weeks. Stay tuned and stay blessed 🙏
Greetings fellow Green Thumbs!
As promised, check out those roots :)
I had to zip tie my light to the ceiling of the tent haha I can't seem to find the 1-foot extension set. Hopefully I won't need it. Still got about 5 inches of space left.
Trimmed some more lower growth to open up the middle.
Pre-flower pistil action. Looks good. Plant looks pretty healthy. Res temps hovering around 72F with constant white root growth. Decided to ramp up nutes to full strength (GH Flora 3-Part "Simple Drain-to-Waste" Schedule | Week 6 - Early Bloom minus FloraLicious Plus and RapidStart) <== in case I haven't mentioned already 👌
I think for my next run, I will run an airline through the net pot prior to filling with HEC and have it centered directly underneath the plant (Korinthius has been doing this since day one!😉)
Thanks for tuning in. 'Til next time folks. Stay blessed! Peace! 🙏
Happy Long Weekend!!! Thank the Gods 😄
She's in full bloom! Gorgeous bud sites are filling out nicely. As usual, I underestimated the flowering stretch, and one of the middle colas grew right into the light, causing some leaf burn and slight damage to the tip of the cola. Thankfully, I had a 1-foot extension kit, and got that installed in the tent earlier today. I should be good on space now 'til Harvest 👍 Drinking about a gal a day!
I've been pretty pleased with my new grow light thus far, the Phlizon 900w, in case anyone is on the fence. My previous light was a Mars II Hydro 400w (almost ~5 years old, half the LEDs burnt out by the 4th year) You get what you pay for!
Removed the Humidifier to lower RH to a range of 45-50%, as well as dropped temps in the room by a few degrees (leaving a window cracked open. gotta love winter for that all-natural AC!)
Nutes: GH Flora Series 3-Part "Simple Drain-to-Waste" Schedule | Week 7 - Early Bloom minus FloraLicious Plus and RapidStart
Can't think of anything else. Thanks for tuning in. 'Til next week! Cheers, and stay blessed! Peace 🙏
Happy Hump Day!
Got lazy this past weekend and forgot to update. Not too much to say anyway. It's starting to smell real sweet in the tent. I'm topping up every other day now, mixing (shaking) nutes in 4L Water Jugs.
Didn't have enough pics, so decided to post some from my first attempt with EV. Whether it be an easy strain to grow, or sheer beginner's luck, I was able to produce a decent harvest and perform the Main-Lining technique successfully.
Stay Tuned, and Stay Blessed! Peace 🙏
Happy Monday Folks!
Branches are starting to sway from the weight of the growing buds.
Topping up every other day with Week 8.
Hands down, Bloom is my favorite phase to watch.
I've uploaded a couple of videos for your viewing pleasure.
'til next time, Stay Tuned and Stay Blessed! 🙏
Greetings Fellow Green Thumbs!
We are approaching harvest very soon. Within the next week, week and a half tops. Need to monitor the trichomes closely (aiming for at least 50% milky) before I start flushing for 4-5 days (PH'd Filtered Water + FloraKleen)
Debating putting up some kind of support to keep the chunky colas from falling over.
Keep your joints fat and bowls filled 😆 Stay tuned and stay blessed! Peace 🙏

Week 16. Harvest

Happy Harvest Day!
Crop King Seeds - Early Vixen - Custom Breeder & Strain
Aside from some light burn on the top colas, I'm happy overall, but I may have harvested a couple days too early. Upon further inspection, I'm seeing about 60% cloudy, 30% clear, and 10% amber. Will strive to be more patient on my next run :)
Something worth noting about light distance to canopy - If your colas are within 12" of this light, or any high powered light, you will notice that your spear headed colas will start forming into fists, with perpetual white hairs. Can be confusing when it comes time to harvest, as you're patiently waiting for white hairs to stop producing. In this situation, keep your eyes on the trichs!
Will update once I'm done trimming.
Big Thanks to those who've been following along, and to the GrowDiaries Community for being so welcoming and helpful. This will be the first of many grows on this platform. I'm here for good!
**UPDATE** Total harvest weight is 119 grams :D Very pleased with the outcome. Will need to practice a bit more patience on my next run so I can pinpoint the perfect moment to harvest. I also decided to flush for a full week since I pushed nutes to full strength in the last 3 weeks. Hang dry in the tent, 2/3 internal fans off, intake/exhaust running at half speed, managed to maintain a temp of 65-70 and 50-40%RH :) trim after 8 days (small branches and buds snapped off) curing in a small bucket with 58% Boveda, burping daily. Hoping to be ready for smoke by 420
