@Dankezt! To me it's all about your medium: some soil bags will cover your plant's needs for months, you would only need to add some Nitrogen for an extended vegetative stage. But some light mixes or soiless mediums such as coco will really benefit from a good feeding schedule, with basic nutrients (N, P, K) and also various additives (humic, fulvic, molasses & sugars, amino acids, ...). A good way to reduce costs for mother plants is to go organic: by making & using your own compost you can give the plant everything it needs with only trashes from your kitchen/garden.
