Borberad We're starting our second grow with photoperiod plants. For the strain, we chose Banana from Zamnesia. To germinate, the seeds are soaked in 1% hydrogen peroxide for about 20 hours and then embedded about 1.5cm deep in coconut coir. The coir comes as a small nest in the middle of the soil of an 8L fabric pot with my homemade grow mix. I'm hoping to avoid the first transplant stress this way and get a plant that's large enough for flowering more quickly. The coir was pre-fertilized with 0.5ml/l Hesi Root. At the end of the germination week, there was a "small" incident: the thermostat of my heater failed, resulting in "slightly elevated" temperatures in the box for an indeterminate amount of time (at least 1 hour). The thermometer read 51°C when I noticed the problem, and the humidity was at 16% on Hygro 1 and 21% on Hygro 2. Let's see what the ladies have to say about that. 😰

Borberad Both little flowers survived the high temps last week. However, in B1, the leaf tips have dried out, and there seems to have been a significant growth delay in the plants. Compared to the previous grow at this time, the two are quite small. I hope they don't notice it until flowering and develop pollen sacs. 🍀

Borberad Week 3 is starting off well. 👍 After a "little" growth delay caused by desert-like conditions, it seems to be back to normal now. To improve the overall condition, there was a shower with kelp tea this week.

Borberad The size difference at the beginning of week 4 is quite remarkable. Unfortunately, B1 got stuck to a yellow board with one of its leaves. I think the brown tips on that leaf are due to that. By the end of the week, the little flowers got a higher quality and more spacious home.

Borberad Since the foliage covered some shoots, this was slightly thinned out and the two lowest shoots were removed. The somewhat longer shoots were bent downwards with 90° plant clips. I'm working with plant clips instead of ground nails for this grow. The ground nails were a bit annoying for me while watering in the last grow (Frozen Black Cherry), so I'm testing the clips this time.

Borberad At the beginning of the week, the fertilization will be switched to flowering. In a few days, the tent will be changed and flowering will be initiated. Before that, I will try to even out the height of the shoots.

Borberad The first week of flowering begins. I removed the clips and we're trying out our self-tied net. Let's see how we manage with it. The plants still seem quite small for the space, but I expect to fill the net almost completely in the first week.

Borberad The two little flowers are growing well, but quite differently. B2 on the left side is developing significantly longer internodes. B1 is growing much more compact. I'm trying to counteract that with UV and I have the impression that B1 is catching up on length growth.

Borberad Week three of flowering is starting off well, both plants are showing no signs of any deficiencies so far, and I was able to even out the height of both plants a bit thanks to the Scrog net and maybe also a little due to the targeted UV exposure. The week ends with lollipopping the flowers.

Borberad The two phenotypes are now clearly distinguishable by their foliage. At the beginning of the week, the flowers are diligently stretching further. I don't want to judge whether the UV lighting is beneficial for yield or terpenes. However, what is clear to me is: Adequate (not too much!!!) UV on the cap, and they don't grow as tall and stay a bit more compact. The stretch has noticeably slowed down during the week, and the buds are slowly starting to swell. On day 26, a really strong smell hit me when I opened the box. It seems that a skunk has sneaked into one of the phenos, or a skunk has made its home in the tent. 😳 Flowering day 28 was unfortunately an unpleasant day. I found pollen sacs on both plants, still quite fresh. So I'll keep an eye on it. If any more appear, I'll try to remember to photograph them, document it, and probably end the grow early. 😞 Maybe a result of the extremely high temperatures in their first week of life? Too much stress from SCROG?

Borberad Keep your fingers crossed, hopefully it won't turn into muesli. Pheno 2 shows signs of potassium deficiency (yellow tips on the leaf edges), which is being addressed with 1ml/Canna mono potassium and 1ml/l Plagron pk13/14. pH value and conductivity in the drain are fine. Pheno 1 is getting the same mixture as a preventive measure. It's interesting how different not only the external appearance is, but also the nutrient needs of the two. On the last day of week 6, the plants were slightly defoliated. Over the course of the next week, the canopy will be opened further.

Borberad For Pheno2 (B2), last week has started, but I'm still not quite sure about Pheno 1. I'm still hoping that I can save a lot of muesli. The buds are definitely sparkling beautifully and smell very strong, almost like a cheese. Or maybe extremely overripe bananas? What I've learned from this grow: Temperatures above 50°C are not so nice for the seedlings!!! 😵 It could be that they remembered it until flowering, and because of that, they also formed a few male flowers.

Borberad The last days! 48h light, 48h dark, and no water. Headbuds from B2 have already been pre-harvested. There's no talk of scent right now, they stink to high heaven. Curious about the taste. The buds are loaded with trichomes and just waiting to be processed.

Happy Harvest Day!

Hey, looks good, but I would recommend getting seeds from good seed banks in the future. RQS, Zamnesia, and all those names aren't really the best.

@Glen1818, Hi, thanks for the compliment, I'm open to suggestions! What would you recommend?
Glen1818
Glen1818 commented2y ago
@Borberad, you should definitely try the AK47 and White Russian from Serious Seeds. Very stable genetics, they have less THC on paper but they don’t hermie on you, and at least the claims are accurate (THC content). They also don’t hermie, while RQS and Anesia, etc., throw so many strains on the market, and usually never reach the THC claims and often hermie. You only notice it when you've had good seeds before. But there are also many other good breeders like Serious.
