The lazy summer days are over, and it’s time to start the next growing season. Wooohoooooo!!!
Well, it sucks that summer is over, but I’m pumped to start the next round :)
I’m going with Mephisto - 4 Assed Monkey for this grow, which will be exciting as it is my first Mephisto grow. Initially, I planned to grow Mephisto - 3 Bears OG, but after four of those seeds in a row failed to germinate, I had enough and changed to 4 Assed Monkey instead.

Another exciting thing is that this will be my first grow using a nutrient system instead of living soil. Bio Tabs are sponsoring me with their full range of products, and it will be fun to test it out.
I started by mixing Mycotrex and Bactrex, which I used to soak the seed, and a Root Riot plug. I did this as it closely aligns with my regular germination procedure. I left the seed and plug to soak overnight and started mixing the soil.
As a base, I used an organic light mix recommended by Bio Tabs. I sieved the soil to remove any larger chunks but hardly found any. However, I wasn’t thrilled with the texture of the soil, so I mixed in additional coco coir and pumice.
I added Startrex and set aside a part of this base mixture, but to the rest, I added Silicium Flash as this will be a water-only grow in a 30-liter sub-irrigated planter with a 6-liter reservoir. It’s also the first time I use this particular planter, and I chose to pimp it with a few strips of cloth to act as wicks between the water reservoir and the soil.
I filled up one corner of the planter with the base mixture and the rest with the Silicium Flash mixture. I plan to plant the young seedling in the corner with the base mixture only, as it will be less nutrient-dense and thus more suitable for young plants.
After filling the planter, I added four Bio Tabs - avoiding the base mixture corner.
Finally, I wet the soil using water from my sprayer with a few soap nuts to provide saponin as a wetting agent.
After soaking the seed overnight, I planted it in the plug, added a humidity dome, and left it alone. Seventy-two hours later, we have lift-off. Boom!
We're finally on the way after a rocky start, with four seeds refusing to germinate (I tried various germination methods, so I entirely blame the seed pack).
Let’s goooooooo!!!
@resi_max, What's alarming with an average VPD of 1.1? It should be 0.8-1.0 for seedlings, but it isn't that far off. Besides, I have absolutely no controls besides an exhaust fan, so there isn't much to tamper with.
