Why High Humidity? • Encourages Strong Root Development: At nearly 100% RH, plants focus on root growth while pulling in moisture directly from the air, helping them establish themselves early on. • Protects from Stress: The high humidity reduces transpiration (water loss through leaves), which prevents drying and keeps seedlings hydrated. • Promotes Healthy Leaf Growth: With constant access to moisture, the leaves expand smoothly, giving each plant a strong start in the vegetative phase. While not drastic, this slight chill is enough to slow down growth a bit as the plants adapt. Cooler temps can encourage tighter node spacing, but they can also delay development slightly. Here’s how we’re addressing it: Proactive Monitoring: Keeping a close eye on temperature and RH trends to ensure they remain within optimal ranges. Gradual Adjustments: Slowly warming the environment with indirect heat sources if necessary, without shocking the plants. Remember, plants are incredibly resilient—and this slight delay will only make the Croco girls’ eventual growth even more rewarding. Feeding Updates: All in One Pellets & Organic Boost 🌾 This week marked a significant milestone: I introduced Aptus Holland’s All in One Pellets to the soil mix. Feeding & Watering: The same Aptus Holland nutrient solution is being used this week: Regulator (0.15 ml/L): Strengthens cell walls, helping the plants adapt to colder conditions and maintain their vigor. Additionally, I’m continuing with bottom watering, where the trays are filled to let the soil absorb water passively. Bottom watering also encourages the roots to grow downward, seeking moisture and building a stronger foundation. Cloning or Flipping to 12/12: I’ve been debating whether to: Flip to 12/12 for a week to induce pre-flowering and identify males and females, or Take clones when they’re large enough and flip the clones instead. Each approach has its benefits: Flipping the plants: Speeds up the process of sex identification but temporarily halts vegetative growth. Cloning and flipping the clones: Preserves the original plants in veg while testing the clones for sex. This method is more time-consuming but allows the mother plants to continue growing. I’m leaning toward cloning when the plants reach the right size, as it seems the most practical for maintaining momentum with these unique mutants. Photography Update: This week, I brought out my Nikon and Sony cameras again, using different lenses to capture the intricate details of the plants. From close-ups of water droplets creating reflections to stunning macros of leaf textures, the results truly showcase their beauty. Why Use a Camera Over a Phone? Week Recap: Slow and Steady Wins the Race The girls are still on the slower side in terms of growth, but that’s part of their charm. Each leaf is a masterpiece, more intricate and stunning than the last. Their prayer posture remains consistent—a true testament to their health and contentment in their environment. They may be taking their time, but their vitality and uniqueness shine through every step of the way. Environmental Conditions: Keeping Things Balanced This week has been about maintaining a steady environment despite the natural slowdown in growth due to cooler temperatures. • Temps: Daytime 18–20°C, nighttime 14–16°C. It’s a bit chillier than usual, but these resilient ladies are adapting beautifully. • Humidity: Stable at 65%, ensuring the girls remain hydrated and comfortable. • Airflow: Gentle but constant to keep the space fresh and prevent any stagnant air pockets. After much thought, I’ve decided to flip the entire room to a 11/13 light cycle. This means it’s time to identify males and let the females show their true potential. Here’s the plan: • Why Flip Now? Despite their smaller size, flipping now allows the plants to reveal their sex while keeping the room’s progress synchronized. This way, I can focus on the keepers and remove the males efficiently. • Revegging the Favorites: By flipping and selecting now, I’ll be able to reveg any standout females later. For those unfamiliar, revegging is a technique where, after flowering, you revert the plant back to a vegetative state. This method preserves genetics you love and allows you to grow clones or expand the line further. 👉 Benefits of Flipping and Revegging: • Speeds up the identification process without needing clones first. • Lets you preserve special traits in the plants. • Adds flexibility in managing space and time. Week 11 Veg - Mentha de Croco Mutants Hello, Grow Diaries fam! 🌱✨ This week’s update is all about setting up for the big transition—we’re finally flipping these beauties into flower! But before we do, I took some important steps to ensure a smooth transition. Defoliation & Why It Matters Before Flower Before the flip, I gave them a thorough defoliation, clearing out lower and overcrowded leaves. Why? Because: More Light Penetration – Helps lower bud sites develop properly. Better Airflow – Reduces humidity buildup and risk of mold. Focused Energy – Encourages the plant to put energy into strong bud production instead of unnecessary foliage. Of course, balance is key—I trimmed enough to open things up but left plenty for healthy growth. Final Pre-Flip Routine • Temps & RH: Holding steady at 22°C with 66% RH, keeping conditions ideal before flower. • 💧 Nutrients: Running the Aptus Holland Clean Feeding Approach with: • Regulator for plant resilience. • RO Water Conditioner to balance pH and improve uptake. • System Clean, even though I’m not using a hydro system, to keep the root zone optimal. • All-in-One Liquid, which is now the primary nutrient source. • 🔄 Watering: Still bottom-watering to keep gnats away and encourage strong root growth. 36-48 Hours of Darkness Before the Flip Before switching the room to 11 hours of light and 13 hours of darkness, I’ll be giving them a 36-48 hour dark period.
