To catch you up on the grow so far:
I last grew 9 years ago, bag seed, 1 of 2 plants was female, 100% pearlite in a 1.5 gal hempy bucket, 8 CFL's in a homemade box using Flora-Duo. Yielded just over 1 oz. of potent creeper Trash!
Things have changed. I have a small amount of funding and I bought a couple tent kits.
I got a Mars Hydro 2x2 and AC Infinity 2x4.
Running some Homemade 5 Gal Hempy Buckets in the 2x4.
The 2x2 is just 1 Gal nursery pots.
I cracked 2 each of some freebies I received with my seed order from North Atlantic:
Heart Shaped Lunch Box from Dirty Bird Genetics
https://www.dirtybirdgenetics.com/heart-shaped-lunchbox-tester/
And
Blue Dream of unknown origins.
My first mistake was selecting 1 of each strain to put in the big tent. These strains have different finishing times, so we will see how this works.
This diary will follow the two in the AC infinity Tent.
I have been fighting what I believe to be a magnesium deficiency in the HSLB, My Coco was not buffered as good as it should have been, but the plant is finniky too.
The blue dream has been responding pretty well and not showing the same sensitivity.
They Underwent a heavy defoliation 1 week ago and are recovering well. I will probably flip them to flower in another week or so.
Flipped on 12/23. Not a whole lot of stretching yet. They recovered well from the previous defoliation, now its like I didn't even do it.
There are some interesting striping and flattening on one of the stems of the heart shaped lunch box. Its been an interesting specimen.
Plants are Chugging along, Lots of stretch now, used some LST clips on both plants to keep the tallest branches even. Had to do some more defoliating to allow for air flow underneath.
Everything is moving nicely.
The Heart Shaped Lunch Box has been a surprisingly fun plant. After they sprouted both of the HSLB showed mag deficiencies that I struggled to stay ahead of. For a brief moment I even wondered if I had the experience to get them to term. It seems to have smoothed out. There is some nice striping in the stems of the plant and the mutation of the stem self splitting is weird as fuck.
Ill try and get some better Photos for the next update.
Just finishing up their 3rd week of flower, both plants are pushing some nice bud sites.
The Heart Shaped Lunch Box (HSLB) Has shown another strange genetic condition. One of the tops looks like a main stem all the way up to the bud, like big fat stem then just abruptly turns to a little retarded bud.
The strange split that it made has produced two very similar appearing bud tops. I'm calling them the twins.
I'm really excited to see how this plant produces.
The blue dream is strong as can be. lots of bud sites that already look fat. Not much more to say about this one, it's just doing what it should.
I've been struggling with keeping the humidity down. I've been running a duhumidifier in the lung room, which helped, but has not had much of an impact. Some duct tape engineering and adding some directed intake duct has resulted in a greater than 20% drop in humidity. Although the temps went up a bit, they aren't anything to be concerned about.
Plants are trucking right along. The under canopies had a lot of weak growth that I had to clean out. I don't think I'm getting great light penetration to the lower buds, but I'm not that confident in what I can and cannot remove safely. I've been pulling the bigger fan leaves that seem to be overlapping too much. Not much smell that I can notice but the BD is starting to get frosty and a little sticky, which has a bit of smell when its on your fingers.
Plants are doing great. feeding till runoff every 1-2 days. some people say feed every day with coco, so I don't worry about overfeeding.
The abnormal bud growing on the HSLB has been identified as a polyploid. Neat.
Things are looking good, no problems to report, other than running out of bloom nutes. I had another pair of these plants in 1 gal that are 2 weeks ahead, so I didn't have enough to finish out both grows. I've already replaced the cal-mag, and the bud booster. I couldn't find just the bloom, so i found beastie blooms which has the same ratio. I've been following the directions for use with other nutrients in hydro, seems to be working okay. I'll have to pay close attention.
