4/20 - 4:20PM - In the water with 3 of the best looking of the lot. This strain is heavily sativa (pheno) in effects though the debate continues on the nature of ATF. Happy 420
4/21 Seeds cracked overnight going into the paper towels later today.
4/22 Moved germs from paper towel to small pots. One tail was small but I mistrust the paper towels when they are on it more than a day. Same setup as my Fastberry grow.
4/23 They are pushing through - very encouraging - may have day 1 tomorrow god willing and the creek dont rise.
4/24 Day 1 - continuing water and silica (20ml) will begin to use complete nuets when transplanting soon
4/25 Day 2 Meet Sally, Poly, and Molly the three contestants in "Who gets to go into the Greenhouse". Winner goes into our greenhouse next month, but the loser(s) will be given to a friend who wants to grow them.
Had to transplant into the larger 5" fiber pots earlier than I thought, Soaked the pots for three hours before transplanting. Lowered lights to stop the stretching. In partial moist domes which will remain until they are in the tent.
4/27 Day 4 Removing the domes tentatively see how they do. Not much happening which is great :)
4/28 Day 5 Put them on the tent timer so they are now on a 19 hour light routine.
Well they still kicking, beginning to grow a smidgen still root building it seems
5/1 Day 8 - beginning to see above ground growth now
5/3 Day 10 - Sally leading, Molly showing signs of problems in genetics and Polly brings up the rear.
5/6 Day 13 - Things are doing ok just waiting for sexing
Keeping them in small pots till sexing if possible. About a week off from moving outside.
Installed new vented hood, things are much better in the tent now
5/11 Day 18 Began process of acclimating to outdoors. Looking well
5/14 Day 21 In larger fiber pots till we have some stable sex IDs, am seeing flag on Sally beginning to separate so wont be longer on that one. Inside for the night a bit cold
5/18 Day 25 - Bad weather has forced us to put them in the tent for the last couple of days under a HPS so they a bit leggy.
Removing silicon from feed and moving to waterings.
Should be able to begin sexing just any day, Sally may be a Sal from the way its growing.
5/22 Day 29 - Weather has been real spotty so they are advancing slowly, some days only getting a few hours of sun. Meh its a photo so no rush, and thats nice to know.
5/24 Day 31 - Weather improving a bit, Topped Sally and Molly while Poly needs a day or so first. Going ok just waiting on sexing to transplant.
5/25 Day 32 - Weather took a bad turn again, have everything stuffed in the tent with the Fastberry to try and get some good light even if it is HPS. Supposed to clear up tomorrow we will see. Topping seems ok hope I did it right.
Feeding today - Recharge, Silicon, Big Bloom, Kangaroots
5/26 Damn weather... sharing the tent light (hell its spilling over) with some indica and the lone survivor from a grow I gave up on.
Hoping the weather guys actually are right and thing clear enough to move em out this PM.
Topping seems to have not stressed them much at all, waiting to see how it goes from here.
Talked to a local grower ATF is going to be a while to sex, so going to have to pot em as is without knowing though he does suspect Molly is male just on the thickening stem at its base but thats on the maybe side.
Into the 5 gallon pots they go then.
5/31 Day 38 All have been topped now, Moly was done a bit differently as I took the entire top not just the flower, does slow them down dont it.
Found some 1+ gal pots for them in the shed till sexing. Weather has been much better though nights still hitting 49-50 at times. Transplanted, gave feeding of all except Silicon and Recharge.
6/1 Day 40 Silicon and Recharge feeding, took about 1.5 liters each. Low humidity has them drinking heavily.
6/4 Day 44 Fed all except Silicon and Recharge took about 1.5 liter each
Not happy with the pot situation but live and learn
6/6 Day 46 D-Day for Sally ... she is a he and must fall on his sword but expected the males to show first... Moly on the other hand is looking (to me) as female and may my guess be correct as I am down to two on this round. Meanwhile Poly, still no idea and that may be good ...pics later
Day 46 When one goes down two take its place... when we can... meet Zena and Zelda was not leaving this shit to chance.
6/7 Day 47 - Man the weather just does not improve I dont know what I will do. Very very glad these are photos, have some time to make it up later. Global warming my arse
6/12 Day 52 - Great sun this week and they are holding up to the heat. Zona has issues may be mites have quarantined until it resolves.
Due to a failed grow earlier in the spring we have decided to modify our original plans for this grow. So to make up for the losses attempting to fill a four plant grow with ATF. This is a change from our original plans of just one but I have determined as long as we dont exceed 4 plants in flower at once I can keep up to four females. Have 8 in total but two are still seedlings. Here is hoping the odds are kind. After talking with a bit more experienced grower keeping Sally for now (yeah I a cautious fellow) to see if I misidentified it. Think I am beginning to see how the strain expresses sex in growth pattern. Frankly its just difficult for now.
Next time all femed seeds :)
Next watering will be Phed water only giving a break from all nuets as I spotted a couple of leaves on one plant showing slight burn. This could be wind of course as it has been windy but not taking chances.
6/13 Day 53 - Treated Zona with Spinosap soap on all surfaces last evening, this is after a very hot (92F) afternoon of full sun in hopes that if is mites the heat will weaken them then follow with the soap after full sun had set. This morning it looks about the same but will keep an eye on things. Water all
6/14 D54 - Sally has proven to be female and I find that humbling as I was also wrong about Moly (RIP) which grew big hairy stemy Ace-Spades balls.
Transplanted Sally into 7 gal pot, will top dress when it settles. Will never touch those large peat pots again, god what a pain to deal with and glad only one has that remaining, Poly, which has not sexed yet. Gave Sally a rooting and bio feeding just to ease the transplant.
Zona still in quarantine not sure whats up there.
Moly bagged and cut in the trash pic explain the why - crap on a stick
6/17 Day 57 Full feeding yesterday as Poly was transplanted into a 7 gal pot along with Sally. Small ones coming along but zona still sick, last week for it if it doesnt turn around.
After reading a couple of obscure grow diaries for this strain going to increase nuets in particular Big Bloom and Grow Big. Seems it really likes its nuets and increasing them should pay off.
Well hell what can I say a grand total of 6 hours sunlight in yet another cold wet week.
Farmers gotta be going out of their mind by now... know I am.
Keep doing what can be done but cant fight no sun...
Feeding of Recharge-Silicon-Big Bloom today one gal each for 7 gal pots one liter each for one gal pots, just waved it at the seedlings ;)
6/25 D65 - Out of the greenhouse early to try and get as much sun as possible as its due to cloud up later and last though tomorrow... again lol
Seedlings doing well one outpacing the other, large one transplanted yesterday into 1.5g pots till sexing.
Large one will be named Adrian the small Stella as each name is called out in pleading anguish during a movie... I need another female...
Since the goals of this grow have changed I need for myself to firm that up, due to needs this has changed from a single plant grow to a four plant (I hope) grow. Since these are regular seeds on a strain that has a reputation for being difficult at times I want to be able to winnow out at least one female outside of the male losses and not have to accept just whatever comes up. I need yield here we are behind due to weather and faulty seeds. So things have expanded :)
I can stay legal with only four plants in flower at any one time so that is the plan, stay legal but get some damn medicine.
We already have next years outdoor strain selected, Barney's Farm LSD, good cold weather strain with less light and nutrient requirements than most and certainly easier to grow than ATF :)
God willing and the creek dont rise too much
7/1 D71 - Transplanting Zelda later in the day, all seems ok really watching those sex displays (heh) on them... so far only one male but I am not counting on that to continue.
7/3 D73 - Due to being down to less than 30 days of veg time remaining Topping is done on Sally and Poly which have been topped three times on prime and side growth points. Will only top the next group twice and only top and fim once on the last group. Must force flowering in the shed end of month so clearing out a place for four plants of decent size.
Yet another rainy completely overcast day, yeah its keeping the fires down but its tough to grow in it. Grow set to receive Water and Recharge when pots say go...
7/5 D75 - Passable weather today for a few hours seems the rains in the mountains are ending so ours should improve. Silicon and Recharge today, 1 gal in 7 g pots 1.5l in 1 g pots. If no show of wrong sex Zena going into a 7 gal pot soon, any others will be in 5 gal as time is just too short to take advantage of the larger pots IMHO.
7/8 Day 78 - Transplanted last of the original plants into 7 gal pots. Sexing is pretty much done sans surprises
Sally turning into a beast already getting too big to move into the sun more than a few feet poly right behind Zelda and Zena lagging but things should speed up in larger pots. Little guys are coming along they are my insurance in case something goes wrong.
Full feed 1.5 gal sans Si and Rchrg for the two large plants 1 gal for middle plants 1 liter for small guys
Cleared out a place in the shed for 4 large plants to force flowering later this month, Sally and Poly first then a week or so later the next largest plants till four are solidly flowering. Plans are for an early to mid September first harvest BEFORE the weather gets worse.
*** Pausing for reflection
Looking back over the diary I come to realization that early cannabis sexing is difficult as hell. Wrong twice right once that aint good odds so no more of that :)
That only one male has shown leads me to wonder which of these are due to herming. However as difficult as its been on this strain (the only good indicator was taught me and is the thickening of the stems on the males) so its real easy to miss a few in a large grow, these are from a very large grow from fall of 2017. Sometimes when you are on your own bravado may be your only help.
Just jump in and do it.
7/9 D79 New Pics ! Some small leaf munching by passing insects, no signs of any problems so far.
For some reason GD deleted my nuets and I am not in the mood to fix it. Same as its been the whole grow.
A week out from forcing flower on at least Sally and Polly.
Posting early busy tomorrow
Shed being prepared for Sally and Poly to force flowering for first harvest hopefully firstish of September.
Zelda and Zena wont force for two weeks. Adrian and Stella may be allowed to go natural will see what things look like in a month.
D86 - After some dead ends we decided to convert part of the green house to a blackout tent as the shed was just not working.
Got done no light leaks Poly and Sally went into the dark muhahahaha
Last feed Si and Rchrg next full
D88 - Two nights in The Dark and the flowering stretch is starting, both plants noticeably grown so next week will be flower it seems. Or I am completely wrong and fouling it all up :)
Full feed today good sun hope it continues
7/21 D91 Adrian cut down - male- So far two males for sure. Poly is getting some few hairs both stretching after four nights in The Dark(tm) .
Full feed - Sally and Poly got the Bio-Bloom the rest got Grow Big. They are very thirsty due to humidity so watching the nuets, will give ONLY WATER next time. Caps are for me so I dont change my mind :)
No nuet burn everything seems ok even the leaf munchers are backing off.
7/22 D92 Zelda going into The Dark(tm) this evening same 14 dark- 10 sun as the rest. Sally and Polly now entering flower just as I harvested two other plants ( A Mex Air and LSD-25 ) big day in the garden.
7/26 D96 Sally was indeed male after all and thus goes away. The garden continues to shrink down to 4 plants out of 8. Full feed today
7/27 D97 Ok losing Sally was a MAJOR bummer but my wife manager to talk me into keep working on Zona and guess who has pistils... yeah she is back and a bit recovered. Zona, Zelda, Zena (all of the second group) and Poly all have pistil with white hair so at least have a four plant grow. Stella still unclear but will flower by the end of month and find out. Light watering today
DAY 100!!!! Week 15
I am glad I did this (regular bag seed grow) but I will never do it again without REAL good cause. Wanted to do an old school grow and wow I really appreciate how things came to be as they are. And I wanted ATF :)
7/30 Day 100 Poly has been in light control for 15 days and is in full flower building buds. Zelda has been in light control for 10 days and is in flower and building colas. Zona has been in the dark for since Sally was cut down and is growing hairs ,pistils.
Zena still not showing clearly and it may well be my poor eyesight making things difficult. Watching closely, full feed yesterday.
Will continue Grow-Big for time being, still putting on a lot of bulk.
Next feed Bio-Bloom /Rechrg/Si think they need more bloom goodies doubling to two tsp/gal.
8/1 Day 102 Stella going into The Dark tonight, still not showing clearly, same for Zena still nothing to say either way conclusively. Have my suspicions but wait and see. All others are doing well. Next feed - Full , the Bio-Bloom seems to be a good product, plants responding well to it.
8/4 D105 Zena is male. all balls not a single hair. Damnit
Full feed today buds building on Poly, Zelda, Zona pics on new week tomorrow. Stella still undetermined while I do see some signs of female not going to make that mistake again so waiting. Its a young plant only 7 weeks, wouldnt be flipping if I didnt need another female now. Next water only
8/7 D108 Si/Rchrg/Bio-Bloom (1ml/l)
8/8 D109 Poly is pleasing, Zelda is zowie, Zona is zoning, and Stella I swear is looking more male everyday. We got bets on it here.
Removing Kangaroots and Grow Big
8/8 How fast can an apparently healthy female go to a fully hermed pollen dropping catastrophe? A single day.
Zelda hermed so badly we could not even salvage what bud existed on it. Sacs were opening as we watched. Going to assume it was a genetic predisposition triggered by 3 days of 100F . Looked fine this morning and 10 hours later well ... bagged and tagged. Wet EVERYTHING down well hoping for a break. Know in a few days I guess.
8/9 Deciding about continuing the grow any further. I have been hoping for a break since this grow started and havent caught one yet with everything from the weather to genetics to chance. I started it primarily to learn but tried to expand it after genetics fouled up another grow. Afraid every female remaining was pollinated yesterday and I am in no further mood for it today.
8/9 update
Checked as thoroughly as I could do not see any signs of either poly or zona having been pollinated, so here's hoping, and the grow can continue.
99% sure stella is male, have buds no signs of hairs have it isolated will deal with it tomorrow. Right now its a two plant garden... heh what a hit. Like I said... no breaks
8/12 Si/Rchrg to very slight runoff
8/13 D114 Poly is looking like what I had in mind for this garden. Nice flat top lots of buds building thick, man ... next year right?
Had to add more support for the branches as the weight of the buds is beginning to sag them down, fixed.
Zona continues her slow recovery in flower, seems it was good for the plant, I continue to feed it rooting hormones and it seems to be working to some extent. Buds are building so life is good.
After doing a bit of reading think I will add the bio-grow in low amounts just to round out the mix. Time to drop the Si, pretty sure the pots are plenty saturated with it by now and my water is not soft.
8/14 Main feed
8/15 D116 New pics, decided to stop feeling sorry for myself and enjoy what we have. Great bones on Poly and Zona just looking better every day, both building well.
THEY LOVE THE NUETS... the BioBizz line is doing wonderful things on all my grows. So much improvement
8/16 Rchrg only Zona
8/17 Bio-bloom/rechrg Poly
These supplemental feedings are basically gut instinct. Poly got extra bloom neuts due to some fade advancing on her leaves. I know from past experience with her that means she is light bloom nuets as its still a bit early to just let that fade go with 4 more weeks of flower ahead.
8/24 I am going to be cautiously optimistic here, the buds on Poly are looking so frosty and a consistent ratio of clear to milky at 1 to 3 with very occasional amber caused no doubt by wind damage. Four weeks to go and the excitement is building.
Zona my Zona ... she is just continuing to improve and build buds like a good girl should. Expressing very sativa obviously I dont expect them to be as dense as the indica Poly. I have great designs on the bud she is producing.
Fed just bio-bloom in a light dose (1 tsp/gal) 0.5 gal each more to give weight to the pots in heavy winds than anything else.
Just some pics of Zona, like children, sometimes the troublesome ones find a special place. Six weeks remain for her god willing and the creek dont rise, so those scraggly little buds are gone be heavy. Beginning the process of bringing her branches higher and supported firmly for both wind and weight protection.
I may never cut a plant down again for looking puny. As it turned out she is helping to save this grow :)
8/25 Zona into a seven gal pot for weight in windy conditions as anything else. Just put her smart pot and all into the larger container on top of about 1.5 inch of soil in the bottom and fill in the sides, worked well. If I lose the pot no big deal, those are cheap.
I know its week 19 just making a note till I can update
8/28 Feed - grow 1 tsp/gal bloom 3 tsp/gal pots light due to humidity and sun
8/28 Fed 1tsp to 3tsp of bio-grow/bloom only, really do not see any need of more.
Beginning to like this organic stuff ;)
Poly systematically fading the larger leaves, wont be long before they have to go.
Zona only random fading as expected being 10 days behind Poly.
Both building bud satisfactorily.
Adjusted Nuet list for current use
8/31 Trimmed Poly a bit but besides that not changing anything, buds looking Frrrooosty
9/1 Fed Recharge and Bio-Bloom tomorrow
9/4 Day 135 of the grow, wow 20 weeks
Plants doing well all depends on weather now I guess
9/4 Keeping tabs from here out in terms of day of flower, total grow length has no bearing.
Poly Day 55 of Flower 9-14 days remain
Zona Day 45 of Flower 19-24 days remain
9/7 Re-adding Big Bloom (Fox Farms) to nuet mix, plants seem to be missing it and I agree. Once a week at 3 tps/gal
9/11 Week 22
Looking better seem to have closed the Phos hole in my nuets, in the future pots will be amended with it from the start.
9/13 Weather degrading (heh relative term) plan to harvest Poly on next spat of "good" weather, Zona couple of weeks tops.
Poly water only but there is plenty of nuets in that pot.
9/14 No decent sun today at all, high humidity forecast is saying it just gets worse from here (heh like those guys know) but if true I need to harvest poly ahead of it which may mean tomorrow. Decide then see if forecasts change.
Next year things will be different damit
9/15 Day 146 of the grow and Poly's last day
Weather is entirely the reason for taking her a bit early, wanted to prep her a bit more but thats life in the outdoors.
She has a beautiful day for her last, she was never any trouble and grew well, I am glad to have grown her, she is a good girl.
Pics and vid to follow, Zona will go as long as we are able as she will hopefully get better weather in a few days after the coming mess departs.
Results, high teens potency, classic ATF mind and body hit, exactly as expected :)
Not really hard to grow but it fought me from time to time
Quick dried and decarbed about 10g wow this is one of the most fun strains with mind and body effects wow
Poly Harvest 622g lost about 3g to bud rot as one bud was about to go south due to all the wet assed weather lately. good thing we got her today.
Easy trim
Wow did winter ever get here fast. Snow this weekend so everything is chopped. Busy busy day
Not sure how to amend the harvest to include Zona - 445 grams wet but do what I can
She did well and in the end was healthier than Poly. Very slight point of bud rot (cold and wet) perhaps one gram affected.
Will update dry weight as I may
BTW the dog in the video is named Mater and he loves cannabis, he hangs around when I harvest and eats any leaves I discard. No hes a good dog leaves the plants themselves alone :)
Zona 167 grams dry I am good with that on a plant almost cut down lost a few grams to bud rot nothing remarkable given the weather
9/17 Add new Supplement for the soil made from the obvious, tilapia farm.
Fish Sh!t - Zona is the test case for it, looking for as much culture as we may affordably get.
https://fishheadfarms.com/ for particulars Looks good so far just seeing how it goes before using it elsewhere. Liquid used as any nuet
Fed today :
Fish Sh!t - 3ml / Bio-Bloom - 18ml / Bio-Grow - 5ml / Final Top dressing of Happy Frog Phosphorus booster 2 tbs scratched in 1 inch / 1 Gal water
9/20 A little sun today enough to dry the buds well enough. Clearing out a tent tomorrow and getting her some light during the bad weather. Still think a week or so off, lot of plants harvesting this month.
9/22 Due to the best we can hope for is 20% sun today she is moved under the lights in the big tent. Can stay there about a week and hope this mess clears by then.
9/23 D154 Though it be cold and cloudy without there is light and warmth within... yeah she liking the light small feed yesterday 0.5g of Bio-Bloom 3ml
9/24 Back outside as weather cleared to meh and I need the tent for another grow. Seems the light did the trick she looks healthy now and buds growing again.
Harvest later this week Thursday is planned.
@billamac,
If Barneys is a problem (US customs) ILGM LSD is working out great.
We didnt grow outdoors this summer, genetics cannot overcome bad growing weather
