First week and super excited. I caught the grow bug...;-) I started the seeds with the soak for a couple hours and wrap them in wet paper towel. This has always worked great.
This time I’m stepping up my game. I attended THC University and got my bud tender certification and certified horticulture specialist with concentration in Cannabis. I’m also going to create both feminized pollen and seeds.
Keeping the nutrients low, 300 ppm. Humboldts Secret runs hot and will burn above 350ppm. I ran into this problem the first time I used it. I impressed with the additives in the nutrients that aid in trunk growth. They get thick and strong; like I like my um.....😂
Everything is coming along nicely. It’s winter here in Michigan and it is very cold out and very very dry. Had one humidifier running on my humidity control unit and it couldn’t get it above 40%. Added a second humidifier and all is well. The lower temps are great because the exhaust fan brings it cool air minimizing the need for the A/C unit.

Not much going on. Just maintaining my humidit, temps and nutrients. I’m collecting cannabis seeds and I’m excited to receive my new shipment this week. Got my hands on a few difficult to obtain landrace seeds. Currently, I have 44 different strains in my seed storage.
Not much going on. Just maintaining my humidity (55%), temps (75F) and nutrients. I’m collecting cannabis seeds and I’m excited to receive my new shipment this week. Got my hands on a few difficult to obtain landrace seeds. Currently, I have 44 different strains in my seed storage. After I grow the next run, I’m going to plant six Sativa landrace plants. I’ll extract pollen from all of them and maybe cross a few for kicks.
Water usage is growing and the humidity from the plants are starting to provide enough humidity to minimize the use of the humidifiers. I also added some CO2 with “The green pad” it worked pretty well I may look into getting a CO2 generator, it just makes me a little nervous. It can get expensive using the pads since they are only good for a couple weeks
Big week. First 5 days before moving to a flowering 12/12 light schedule, I started to spray two choice branches with Tiresias feminizing spray. These branches will be used for creating feminized pollen. Some of the pollen will be used to pollinate a selected branch on the same plant for feminized seeds and the remainder of the pollen will be dried using Silica gel packs and stored in a labeled container and placed in a freezer. I kept the plants in the dark for 30 hours to help kick start the hormones into starting the flowering process. We were told in our horticulture class that this will speed up the flowering process by a few days. We’ll see. Also, leaching the system and flushing the plants. Fresh clean water, nutrients, and removal of salt buildup during veg.
First week in flower. It’s looks like the 32 hours of darkness prior to flipping to a 12/12 light schedule worked on promoting the flowering hormones. It’s always exciting to flip to flower. All the anticipation and hard work to make sure the plants are strong, healthy and happy before flower. Flushing is important when changing to flower. Clean everything, flush, fresh nutrients at the flowering levels.
It’s looks like the 32 hours of darkness prior to flipping to a 12/12 light schedule worked on promoting the flowering hormones. They started showing flowers about 4 days earlier than my last grow. But it was a different strain, so not sure I guess. It would be cool to have the space to test this in one grow cycle.
Finally done with the 21 days of spraying it does work as advertised. I stopped spraying now that they have intersexed. Next step is to let them grow until they are ready to be cut off and moved to another room. 20. Days seems like a long time to spray, but it went by fast.
Pollen sacks are getting bigger. I’m guessing 1 more week. As they mentioned in class, there’s always a few early sacs that open. Spayed them with water to nuturalize the pollen. Overall everything is going as planned. Plants are looking good and healthy. Note they branches being sprayed with colloidal silver look pretty ruff. So girls.
So, I cut the male branches and removed them from the grow room. I got two vases and added some water with lite nutrients. I poked a hole in a plate and put the branch through it. The plate should collect the pollen. I put them in my veg area and made sure they were comfortable. ;-) I found if you use your trim tray to collect pollen it works great and it’s fast and easy.
So, I seeded my next run. Very excited about the strains I’m going to grow next. I added pollen to select flowers last week and I can start seeing signs of seed production. OMG! It worked I got feminized pollen, pollinated a few branches and now feminized seeds. 😃😃😃😃
Update: after harvest I got some seeds. Not as many as I thought I would. Lesson here is to make sure you pollinate the branches well. Cover as many pistils as possible to maximize your seed count
I’m in flush right now. Pure RO water. Going to go lights out for a couple days. Also, trying the trichome swelling trick of no feeding for about three days. I’ll be monitoring the trichome swelling to make sure I harvest at peak swelling. Also, excited about pulling seeds. Update: its after harvest and this technique actually worked. By the second days they were visibly bigger under the magnifying glass. I think I’ll invest in a scope with an iPhone attachment so I can take pictures of the trichomes. I think it would be great to archive a grow with trichome pics as well as the plant pics.
Seeds are starting to showing. The pollinated branches didn’t take off growing at all, kinda stopped. I guess she was focusing on seed production. I hade a couple tip over from bud weight, the yo-yos worked great to keep them up.
This was an easy phenotype to grow. Likes ph a little lower. I kept it at 5.5. 15 degrees lower at night. Harvested when the trichomes were cloudy and not many amber. I like to even it off with a little head high with the natural body high this indica’s terpenes provide. Turned out great. Hung dried for 11 days at 50% humidity and 62F. Read that temps above 68F start to destroy terpenes. Happy with the results.
Great and easy phenotype to grow. I kept a 10F difference between day and night. GDP likes lower PH; I kept mine at 5.5. I also kept it hanging at 50% humidity and around 65F while drying. I kept the temps low because I read the temps above 68 destroys certain terpenes.
After 11 days she was ready for curing. I burp them often trying to keep the humidity down to 50%
Once the pollen sacs start to crack, before any pollen sacs open, you cut the branch off and put it into water or very light nutes. I will be putting this into a separate room where I will collect the pollen. I’m going to put the pollen into small containers and label them before freezing for further use and cross pollination to bread my own strain. Before that I’ll use some pollen and brush it onto a selected flower. Once brushed on I’ll cover it with a paper bag for a few days to prevent any others from being pollinated. I will document all my steps as I go, all the way to collecting the seeds.
@Kelly, ah clever, that way you don’t run the risk of taking clones. I’ve been trying to figure out how I could self an auto without pollinating the whole room. Because from what I’ve read taking a clone from an auto can set the clones cycle back by 1-2 weeks which would cause me to miss the pollination period. So thanks for solving that issue 😂🙏🏼
Good question. All different posts on the web. I’m going to follow the, keep it dry as possible and freeze it. Some say a couple years to longer. All over the board.
Nice Strain to seed! I bet this smokes wonderful. It also has great genetics for crossbreeding. I've been looking into 2 different Indica strains for a breeding project next year. Balck Domina and Granddaddy Purple are the 2 strains I'm planning on getting. I just finished seeding Landrace Thai X (Girl Scout Cookies X Gorilla Glue #4). I'm really happy with the results. Looks like you are going to be happy.
Looking good! Why the need to keep the pollen branches alive? Surely if you had just hung them up somewhere you still would have gotten the desired pollen?
I love how you’re operating your grow man. You’re doing everything I’m wanting to try once I get my room set up. I was wanting to reverse some of my girls, but I was planning to take clones and self the mothers. Considered just reversing a single branch but I was worried it would end up pollinating all the plants. Do you know of a way to stop that?
Pollen needs to mature to ensure it’s sucess and potency. Too early and it’s no good. I’d rather let nature take its course. But, you may be right, it may not matter. But, after investing a ton of time and resources to get pollen and have it stop pollen maturation would suck. Lol
I went to Vegas for a week during the stretch. I moved the lights up a little. I wasn’t around to train them. Too late now. I’ll have to deal with the taller plants.
Almost lost one. I pulled it out and nursed it back to health. She’s doing awesome now. She caught up to her sisters. I gave her away to another grower because I planted a secret strain in its place, obtained from from an individual living thousands of miles away.
