Borberad Step right up for Sleepy Joe, the sleepy heavyweight among cannabis strains! With roots deeply embedded in the genetics of Obama Kush and Nova OG, this laid-back fellow promises not only a journey into the world of relaxation but also a harvest that will blow us away.
Join us on this exciting and fun journey as we follow Sleepy Joe from a tiny seedling to a magnificent plant. We will witness how, under our loving care and the right training methods, he transforms into a true champion.
This grow diary is more than just a collection of pictures and videos. It's a tribute to the art of cultivation, a documentation of our successes and mishaps, and a guide for anyone brave enough to follow in the footsteps of our 'green thumb' 🙈😂.
So, sit back, relax, and enjoy the show! Let's dive into the world of Sleepy Joe together and see how far we can go with him.🍀💜

We're starting germination as usual with soaking in 1% H202. However, this time we'll first go into the Jiffy pot and after germination into a 4L fabric pot. This time we want to transplant. During a proper but not too long veg period, we'll switch to a 20L fabric pot and initiate flowering after about 4 weeks.

Sleepy Joe is living up to his name and starts off a bit sleepy. 🍀😂💜
The little flower gets to move into the 4L fabric pot now, and we'll say the germination is done. 😅 The planting hole will be enriched with Dynomyco Mycorrhiza so the nice fungi can take good care of the roots.
Day 4 and Joe is still sleeping, let's wait and see, but it's not a good sign.
Day 5 and the little one seems to be growing a bit, but a backup seed is already in hydrogen peroxide.

And Sleepy is really getting into it. 😄🤣
The second seed has germinated a bit faster (4 instead of 5 days 🤔) let's see if Sleepy Joe 1 gets caught up. 😴

(A big thank you 👍 to Irati for the explanation "Please pay attention to the comment")
They were actually the smallest seeds we've had so far, maybe germination time and starting speed have something to do with seed size??? But it shouldn't matter to us, we don't want to make muesli. 😊

Borberad Both little flowers have developed wonderfully, despite the initial delay with No. 1. No. 2 is making good progress on its way to becoming a big flower and is catching up a bit. It's so nice to see how happy you get when the little flowers are doing well. 🙈😅

Everything is going great, both look fit and healthy, no deficiencies or other damage visible!
No. 1 is now getting a slightly higher feeding.
No. 2 is only getting half of the recommended amount from Hesi.

Borberad Week 5 or rather 4
Both little flowers are growing well and are free from deficiencies and pests. Soon it's time for a bigger pot and then into flowering.
At the end of the week, they were repotted, although number 2 could have easily stayed in the 2L pot for the week.

Borberad Veg Week 6
This week, the two get to explore the big pot, and then they’ll probably head into flowering. I gave #1 a FIMing after she got through the transplant stress. Let’s see how she likes it and if we’ll wait a bit longer before flowering. #2 seems to be struggling a bit more with the transplant, but she’ll definitely appreciate it once she’s settled in. As can be seen in the later pictures, we were probably a bit too straightforward with the cutting, so it was more of a topping instead of FIM. (We’ll be getting a rabbit soon to nibble on the top.)🐰🤣

Borberad The last few days at 20h of light. During the week, the ladies will move to the flowering tent and spend the short day at 12h with 25-30 DLI. This will be the first grow where we significantly reduce the light intensity at the beginning of flowering, let's see how much stretch this causes. Our approach with less blue light by reducing the veg light and lower light intensity should make the ladies stretch more, improving the airflow of the flowers and buds in the late flowering stage, which will fall in early summer and will be more challenging to regulate humidity and temperature during that time. We're excited. Over the next few weeks, the power will be gradually increased, so we aim to reach about 50-55 DLI in the 5th week of flowering.
For a few days now, we've supplemented our fabric pots with self-watering. (See photo) Just added a wick to the existing grid in the saucer, so now it can be watered from below without the flower sitting in water. However, if possible, only pure water should be supplied from below. Somehow the wicks seem to get salty and then don't work properly anymore.

Borberad This week, Nr. 1 needs a bit of defoliation. We need to give her a bit more light and air for the shoots. Otherwise, we can only say Sleepy Joe seems to have woken up and is already stretching a bit for the upcoming flowering. Nr. 2 was still quite small to be moved into flowering, but this gives us a nice comparison of what a week of veg can do. However, we will not top Nr. 2 but may bend it during flowering.
To make better use of the available space, we decided to take down the Q80+ and line the used niche accordingly. Therefore, the "tent" color will change from white to silver within the week. We are not satisfied with the silver foil we used, so we are still looking for improvements.
Day 48. And Nr. 2 wants to show us that he really is a Joe. So out of the tent! The lease agreement between us and the flowers is unfortunately not gender-neutral. 🤷♂️🤷♀️
It explicitly states:
Only female tenants.
We can almost rule out hermaphroditism at this point, as we cannot identify any female pre-flowers, and it grew parallel to Nr. 1 and a Purple Urkle under identical conditions, both of which have not developed any pollen sacs but rather pre-flowers that are clearly identifiable as females. At this point, it should be emphasized that even with feminized seeds, there can be no 100% guarantee for females. However, as luck would have it, we have come out of this quite happy, as we had some lovely flowers in the race. 😊🙏

Borberad Sleepy Joe seems to be enjoying the new spot and is stretching in all directions. The first reflector film in the new box has now been replaced, so we've seen again that those who buy cheap, buy twice.

Borberad It's the 3rd week of flowering and Sleepy Joe just wants to keep growing upwards. In the last 2 weeks, he's had a decent stretch and is still growing. Since we've made some changes, he's welcome to do that. We don't have to keep our little flowers so flat anymore.

Borberad The buds are growing and getting thicker. It smells a bit like a goat barn in the tent 🐐

Borberad Last week, the plant was partially harvested from top to bottom. This led to a more even ripening of the trichomes.
Hi. And no, seed size and potential or germination speed are not related. It's the strain that determines the seed size. Often, balanced hybrids and indica-dominant strains have the larger seeds.
Hi Irati, and thank you for your explanation! 👍💜 The second Sleepy Joe is already quite a bit faster, as you can see in the photos, even though the seed was the same "size" 😁 as the first one. Maybe there was a dry spot in the soaking tab or it was a bit too wet for a day 🤔 so you can't be 100% sure. They will definitely be two strong ladies. 🌱🍀
Good Luck with your Amazing Anesia Strains ! Looking Forward for this upcoming Ladies . Keep up the Great work they will love it ! Dropped some New Strain Diaries some Hours Ago. Would really apreciate some love there :D
