First grow in a spacebucket, 300W ufo w/30W 3000k cree cob and two 5630 led strips. Seeds from seedsman. I thought i was prepared but man im just worrying that im doing stuff wrong :) Reading Rosenthal's book and using the interwebz, I hope im on my way. At least she grew. Planted two, the other one is almost coming above the soil but it might not make it.. gonna try to help her. Had them in a wet towel for a few days until they woke up, got some seedling soil from the local gardenshop and crossed my fingers and toes. Glad to be starting my grow, bet ill be messing up at some point but its the start of a new passion for sure!! Ive been looking at HLG qbs and we'll see, maybe ill take that old closet and build a larger space for a perpetual system one day :)

Im growing in a spare room with a washing machine and probably the least fresh air in the house and i fear my co2 levels and ph is way off (first time grow, you know, so much to learn so fast). How will poor air quality affect the plant, and how can i see the signs on her?

Hello and welcome on Growdiaries. here are some spacebucketgrower... Successful one too , i will name them in the Comments. but generally to say... no nutients!!Its ways to early for that. Normally no nutes and less until you reach minimum week 4 or see defiencys. the soil feeds your plant. Dont care about co2 levels, look for a good airflow, check humidity , and dont overwater. Atm she looks good.

Im seeing yellow old fan leaves, spots on top new leaves, yellowing tips, and perhaps stunted growth (she's kinda short, right?). Im feeding 2ml/L now and PH should be ok, but she still shows def/excess. This makes me sad :( Should I just flush? How did this problem start?

You can give her a light flush of 2-2.5 gallons of ph correct water. If you use a TDS meter try to get the runoff down to 200-300 ppm. Lower your nute dose a bit the tips of the leaves are showing some burn. Add your nutrients to the last quart of flush water with some cal/mag. You needed to start adding some cal/mag back in week 4. It usually starts showing a deficiency in the leaves by week 6. The damage can't be reversed only slowed down. If you don't have cal /mag use unsulphured "blackstrap" molasses from a health food store. Dissolve in a few cups of hot water 1 tablespoon molasses per gallon of water. You will need to correct the ph after adding this to the water it's acidic. You can mix your nute into the same water. If there is any left toss it because it won't keep. Let her dry out a bit before you water again. Week 7-8 are an important time for the buds to fatten up. So try to tuck some leaves to get as much light as possible on the buds. You still have about 2.5 weeks to go. She will be draining nutrients from the leaves until the end that's normal. By harvest many of her leaves will be yellow. Good luck

I wouldn't bother trying to mainline this strain. It's already a fairly small fast plant you"ll problably set her back at least a week by doing it. That's one week less of growth or flowering that will affect overall haul of buds.

@Philindicus, yes i noticed this now when i transplanted to a bigger pot and i can see the % sink when she drinks it up. now its at about 35-40% when shes dry. The smell though, a filter is going to be the next update to the box i think :) Didnt think it would be noticable before flower, thought i read that somewhere, but its def there now. I love it but might need to contain it for the unknowing-nonsmoking-houseguests.

@@ragnardanneskjold, At 2 weeks 62% humidity is fine during the veg stage as long as you dont see any signs of mold or mildew. You can start lowering it during flower. Since your growing in a space bucket it will be high everytime you water. You just need some good air circulation and it will drop when things dry out a bit.
ragnardanneskjold
ragnardanneskjold
@Philindicus, Think im gonna play it cool and focus on health. Just got a hygrometer and i see i might need to take some measures to lower it, 62% seems high. I guess add an extra output fan could help.

@@@@@ragnardanneskjold, She looks perfect. You may start to see some flower pistils soon exciting stuff. I hear you with being careful. You can buy stuff as you go. What is the N-P-K on the fertilizer package? I would start off with 1/8 dose week 4 of what they say to use and see how she reacts. If she does good then go to 3/16 to 1/4 dose in week 5. Auto flower need less nutes. Depending on what form the nitrogen is in could cause some issues when determining dosage so go slow. You could tape some black paper or plastic around the sides of your container if you want. It doesnt seem to be affecting her at all so far. Like I said next time adding perlite to your mix will give more spaces between the soil particles, oxygen to the roots and better drainage.Because your mix is dense you just need to be careful because it will hold on to the fertilizer longer than a free draining mix. Mrs_Larimar has some great diaries check out her soil mix and other recipes on her diary of the month grow for March. She also has some organic stuff you can make yourself. Your also at a time when you can start some LST work to control her height be gentle and try to lay her a bit on her side. Don't try to bend the upper most top it's too soft may be try near the middle. Do it a little at a time as she grows.

@Mrs_Larimar, i did and found some interesting ones. also fun to see others on the same week as me. Originally i planted two seeds, this one sprouted faster than the one that probably died of nute-shock or something (sad emoji). Glad i planted two for safety though :) I can see why people like spacebuckets, but man I want more space!!!! Already planning to empty a closet and rebuild :p

I see a few pistils on the main stem she starting to flower. She may have been a bit hungry so she started pulling nutrients from the lower leaves. If you look at your leaves the edges are slightly curling up and the blades look canoe shaped that is a sign of light stress or the beginning of light burn If possible try to raise your light up higher until it stops. If you notice it is mostly the upper leaves that are doing this. Any discoloration can't be fixed just slowed down. You can also try to tuck or tie or push the lager fan leaves out of the way to allow more light to the lower growth and bud sites. If they can't be moved you can remove 3-4 of the lowest fan leaves but don't go crazy. As the branches stretch they will grow a few new leaves. Concentrate on the buds that are going to start developing. The older leaves will look worse for wear over the next 4-5 weeks. You can try drilling a few holes in the top of your pot then tie down your branches. You can start to use some bloom nutrients if you have any it will tell her to stop growing and start flowering since you have limited space.

@Budofpray, I agree adding microbes should be done separately from nutrient feedings. It seems that even with the long list of microbes on the product your at the mercy of the manufacturer in terms of getting viable microbes since they are also very heat sensitive. One trip in the back of a tractor trailer in the summertime heat they are cooked. Same thing with soils that add beneficial microbes who knows if they were handled properly. Getting fresh products is a big issue. Also the list of how many microbes are actually beneficial to each type of plant is very short. Not like the manufacturers lead us to believe that they need 30 different species. I guess the only way to know is by the results of the grow.

With lights do your research. Buy the best light you can afford. You can always add additional lights as you go. Keep in mind when buying leds that what the manufacturer calls 400 watts may actually only use 200 watts or less. Look for the specs to see what the actual wattage draw is for that light. More wattage equals higher bud weight. Comparing lights is very difficult. Try to read up on PAR rating for LEDS. It's measured in umoles. You need at least 300 umoles for growth and up to 700 umoles of light for bloom. So something that puts out 300- 550 umoles is about average. Good lights will have a square meter map showing the different umole ranges under the lights. Don't get me wrong I've read diaries where a 150 watt led grew twice as much as one with a 600 watt led. Good luck with your search.

Philindicus
Philindicus
@@ragnardanneskjold, I went through the same issue since I'm just starting out. The science can be confusing on lights. Manufacturers make it difficult to do a comparison to other brands of light. Lights that have not only a heat sink but cooling fans help the lights last longer. I think your in europe is that so? You can post a question to fellow growers in your area for suggestions on lights. They are truly an investment. Don't trust your power company to give you the exact power you need. You need at the very least a surge protector between your outlet and your light. They also have voltage regulators which adjust the power between your outlet and your light. If you buy an exspensive light I would recommend using one. Good lights should last about 5 years. Growing is like baking a cake if you have all the highest quality ingredients but don't have a good recipe you can't expect it to come out good.

@Philindicus, Mine says 300w but is 150w, now i guess its more like 65-80w :/ Ive read reviews where lamps have died after a few weeks so I guess Im one of the unlucky ones. Not going to happen again!!! :) Quantum boards feel like a step in the right direction for me in terms of power and output, and heat. Always just looked at watt, being a commercial photographer by trade, never heard about ppfd, umoles and all that good stuff, very technical but I see now that watt really doesnt say anything regarding yield. Ill get back to my research :)

When it rains it pours! She looks great in her new home. You can take off the lowest yellowing fan leaves. Take it easy on the nutrients. With auto flowers they use less nutes than photo periods. Typically 1/2 strength nutes is a high as you want to go unless shes telling you she wants more. Your at a stage where if you burn the roots with too much fertilizer it will hurt your harvest weight. Definitely DO NOT use 4 ml per liter on her unless your using a TDS meter to tell you how many ppm your feeding solution contains. Week 7-8 are usually when she will use the most nutes. She looks like she has a magnesium deficiency in the first photo but not in the rest of the photos it's hard to tell. If you have a Cal/Mag additive you can add that to your routine. Be patient the buds will be growing slowly for week 6-7. Week 8-9-10? they will swell up nicely. Keep in mind by the end of her life the leaves will look worse for wear but the buds will look great.

@@ragnardanneskjold, if you dont have Cal/ mag you can go to a health food store and buy unsulphured molasses. It has calcium, magnesium, vitamins, amino acids and sugars to feed your beneficial bacteria living in your soil. It an organic method. I would start with one teaspoon per gallon then gradually work up to one tablespoon by week 8 or 9. It will make your solution acidic so make sure to adjust your ph after you add it to your feed solution. Recheck the ph again after 15-20 minutes to make sure it didn't swing back down.

Nice your hard work will pay off soon. You should be flushing with plain ph correct water to get rid of the fertilzer thats left in the soil and plant or your weed will burn poorly and taste harsh.. You will see a mix of colors in the trichomes. Some clear, 1/2 cloudy, milky which turns to amber. The more amber the more of a body high you'll get. I've been taking mine at about 5 to 10% amber ,some people like 15 to 30% amber. You can always harvest in stages to try and see which type of high you like. Looks like maybe another week. Take her at 70 to 75 days.

Your emergency light issue. You can use a drop light with fluorecent spot light bulb or two with a color spectrum of 3000k or less to suppliment your other light until you decide on your new lights. The lights you mention or showed intrest in have a very limited color spectrum and you would need at least one for growing in veg. and a second one for bloom. You would also have to use a fan to blow on the heat sink to disipate the heat better.

The hardest thing in the beginning is to not over water your seedlings and young plants. Try to let them dry out a bit between waterings. The roots will grow deeper in the pots looking for moisture. Also with auto flower its better to put them in their final size pots rather than repotting them.

When your ready to harvest cut all the big fan leaves off the branches. Then try to remove the larger leaves off the buds. I usually cut the tips off anything not covered in trichomes. Hang her in a dark spot with about 50-60% humidity and let them dry slowly over 5 to 7 days. You can start removing the smaller buds first then the larger ones last. I put mine in a quart glass jar with a mini cigar humidity meter you can get them on amazon one for each jars is great. The idea is to get them down to 62% by removing the top of the jar several times a day, then a few times a day, then once a day when they stabilize at 62-63%. Then I add a boveda 62% humidity pack. If your jar hits over 68% humidity take the larger buds out put them on a tray for a few hours then put them back in the jar. Repeat if needed. Take a good smell from the jar when you open it. It may have a green smell to it at first then it will fade into the classic kush smell and it will intensify. You will notice a big change over a period of a few weeks. When you dry them slow the chlorophyll and sugars get broken down by natural aerobic bacteria which need a little bit of moisture and fresh oxygen to survive. If you go the fast route your weed will smell like hay forever and be harsh. I dry about one week jar them, burp them, then cure at least 2 weeks before I even try to burn any. This allows the THC-A (acid form) to turn into THC The longer the cure the better. It will intensify the odors and mellow out any harshness. It's a difficult topic to describe but there's a medium/fine line between not dry enough to start jarring them up or leaving them to over dry which can also cause a few issues. I've even seen and read a few articles about people putting there buds into a brown paper bag or cardboard box or even turkey bags to help them dry a bit slower. But I feel good air circulation is better to avoid mold issues. It looks like your going to have some really nice smoke when your done. It takes a lot of patience but it's worth the wait.
