BelSun_420 Hey mates Itβs time to choose!
If youβve already checked out my profile, you probably remember that some time ago I attempted my very first bonsai, a project I really enjoyed and that I think turned out quite nicely! π
For a while now, Iβve been thinking about giving it another shotβ¦ and guess what? Kannabia reached out to me to create a new bonsai using one of their strains!
I want to thank them for this opportunity, itβs my first grow with sponsored seeds, and Iβm excited to start this new project π
The main idea behind this project is to use a Buddha statue as the base, with the roots resting in its hands and eventually growing downwards into the pot. Iβm still deciding on the pot (theyβre a bit pricey, to be honest).
To make this a little more fun, Iβm going to leave 3 comments with the strains I could use for this grow.
The one with the most likes by April 10th will be the one Iβll turn into a bonsai! or should I say Kannabonsai?! π
( If there are no votesβ¦ well, Iβll just pick one myself π )
Here are the links to the strains :

Today, April 25th, I decided to symbolically start the germination of the seed β itβs Freedom Day here in Portugal! Hopefully, weβll see many more βApril 25thsβ when it comes to this beautiful plant that connects us!
For germination, Iβm testing Kannabiaβs seed germinator. Basically, you moisten the cotton discs with 15ml of water, place the seeds inside, and add the germination liquid provided by Kannabia. Letβs see how effective this method is! So far, I really like the little detail of the top disc showing the temperature.

For now, there's not much to sayβ¦ just keeping the soil moist and thatβs about it. The pot it's currently in is just a temporary one β once the roots are well-established, Iβll move her into the actual bonsai pot

Thereβs not much to say about last Week, I just tried to keep the soil moist, and this week will be the same. She had a good growth in height, which isn't ideal for bonsai training, so I moved her closer to the light to prevent further stretching. Maybe by the end of the week, I can start training her, but most likely only next week, she's still very young. βΊοΈππ§‘

I started applying Bio RHIZOTONIC by Canna. I diluted about 1.5 ml in 1 liter of water.

So, I decided to do something with the bonsai to take my mind off work hahaha. It's the first time I'm using these bonsai wires, and I haven't quite got the hang of it yet, which made me mess with the plant a bit too much, but nothing serious. Let's see how she recovers by the end of the week. She was getting too tall, so this should also slow down her growth a bitβI hope (never thought I'd say that) π€£
As for the wires, maybe they're not meant to be used at this stage. It's quite tricky to put them onβyou either do it directly while holding the plant at the same time, or you wrap the wire around a stick or something like a mold and then wrap it around the plant, but you end up shaking the plant a lot anyway. I need to research some techniques for this.π€

BelSun_420 I started training her at the end of last week, sheβs growing well, which honestly makes me curious to try growing this Ginger again but not as a bonsai. This week, Iβll be transplanting her into the final pot and placing her in the Buddhaβs hands. βΊοΈ
(I'm going to use the same pot from the last bonsai. They're a bit expensive)
Iβll share more about that on the 27th or 28th!

BelSun_420 Hey folks,
Transplant done today, May 30th, into the final pot. Now sheβs in Buddhaβs hands ποΈπ
This one was tricky to transferβI knew it would be tough since I let the roots grow too much due to lack of time to properly focus on this project and the extra time wait for the order with the Leca base to arrive!
That made it hard to separate the soil from the rootball and position it over Buddha. I really shouldβve done it at week two, or starting in a smaller pot to avoid all that root chaos! π
But hey, letβs see how she responds and what the final result will be!
π€π»ππ§‘

31/05/2025
When I cleaned the roots, she wilted a bitβas expectedβbut just a few hours later, that same night, her leaves were perky again, showing that everything went smoothly and she's full of strength! π Today I cut a small branch and a leaf that were growing in the direction I want to twist the plant into a spiral, as you can see in the video. A few more hours and she should be perky again π

BelSun_420 Hey Growmies,
Last week I transplanted her into the final pot and everything went well β though I shouldβve done it a bit earlier to handle the roots more easily. Anyway, it went fine. Later in the week, I tried to do a bit more training, but things almost went south and gave me a real scare for a few days π¬
Since the transplant was still fresh, she wasnβt stable enough yet, and the training stressed her out β she completely wilted for a while. But sheβs back now, shining in all her glory π§‘β¨π§‘

One more training session πͺπ±
Hey Growmies, first time I'm seeing these signs, what do you think? I've already searched using ChatGPTand some sites, so I would appreciate human help :P
BelSun_420 Hey Growmies,
Another week for our Kannabonsai β and weβre officially in flowering mode! π₯
Unfortunately, some leaves started showing signs of stress last week. Iβm still not 100% sure what caused it, but I tried to fix it with a small potassium boost and she responded with slight signs of nutrient excess. So I went back to plain water only.
Other than that, she's looking healthy and developing nicely, although I wish some branches had thickened up a bit more by now. I trimmed a few weaker ones to help focus her energy on the top buds.
I believe the last LST session was two days ago β from now on itβs just letting her bloom and slowly exposing more roots.
Note for my next bonsai:
When placing it in Buddhaβs hands, I definitely need to find a more stable way to anchor the base to the pot. Right now itβs wobbly, so I have to be twice as careful when moving it around. Wouldnβt want to send Buddha tumbling! π ππ§‘

BelSun_420 Hey Growmies,
Weβre kicking off another week β and weβre officially in flowering mode now! π
Sheβs showing a few signs of deficiencies from the past weeks, but only on the bigger fan leaves (which Iβll be removing sooner or later anyway). The ones supporting the buds are still looking good π
This week Iβll slowly start clearing out the soil and see how she responds, checking if sheβs rooted enough into the new pot to hold herself up once the base soil is removed and itβs just the roots keeping her in place.
All in all, Iβm happy with this girl ππ§‘π

BelSun_420 Hey Growmies,
My lovely bonsai π§‘π Unfortunately, I no longer have space in the tent, so sheβs been spending most of her time on my balcony, where sheβs soaking up the sun and growing nicely. But since sheβs out on the balcony, sheβs a bit out of sight, and I havenβt been as attentive. There were a few days when I didnβt position her well, and she ended up in the shade, which made her stretch towards the Buddhaβwhen I actually wanted her to grow in the opposite direction! π
Now Iβm trying to carefully adjust her and see if I can lean her back the other way! Iβve been extra cautious with her, and I havenβt exposed the roots yet, because like I mentioned in previous weeks, sheβs not super stable in her pot. I need to be really careful not to snap or loosen her!π§‘

BelSun_420 Hey Growmies,
Started exposing the roots todayβthis is how weβre looking so far π§‘
From now on, itβs all about slowly uncovering more roots and trimming the finer ones that wonβt affect growth, while being super careful not to loosen the plant or damage any main roots.
I usually do this part with a thin stick to gently loosen the soil, plus a brush and an old toothbrush...it works for me! π
As for the buds, theyβre actually developing pretty nicely considering itβs a bonsai, and overall the plant looks healthy and happy. π§‘π

BelSun_420 Hey Growmies,
My beautiful bonsai hehe 𧑠This week I removed all the training wires β sheβs free now! π§‘π§‘
I had to reinforce the area around Buddhaβs hands where the roots rest by adding a bit more soil. This setup has been tricky to keep stable from the beginning, and now with the recent root cleaning and the buds fattening up nicely, the weight is making things even harder.
Iβve been carefully adding soil in specific spots to support the weight and counter the tilt sheβs developing.
But Iβm confident everything will go smoothly until the end π€π»π

BelSun_420 Hey Growmies,
My Ginger Punch bonsai is holding up nicely! After adding some extra soil in key spots, sheβs much more stable β I can actually move her now without worrying sheβll tip over π.
The buds have been filling out really well, especially considering sheβs a bonsai. It still blows my mind that theyβre being fed only by the roots you can see connected to the soil. Just amazing how resilient our favorite plant can be! π
Iβm guessing sheβs got about two more weeks to go. Canβt wait to give her one final clean-up and let her shine in all her glory ππ»π§‘π§‘

BelSun_420 Hey Growmies,
First of all, these last couple of weeks have been really tough work-wise, so I even skipped an updateβI just didnβt have the time. That said, here we are with our bonsai in its final stage π±π§‘.
Sheβs basically ready, but Iβll let her go one more week so we can take those pretty farewell pictures ahah Photos arenβt the best this week either π , but next update will be the goodbye one! π

BelSun_420 Hey Growmies,
Our bonsai journey has come to an end! π±π§‘ Itβs always tough to say goodbye after so much work, but the time has come. A huge thanks to Kannabia for giving me the chance to bring this bonsai project to life with their seeds β itβs been a fantastic ride.
Also, a big thank you to everyone who supported me along the way with comments and kind words , they really mean a lot! π
Now itβs time to let her dry, and soon Iβll be back with the final results.
Love you all π€π»π§‘ π
@Kirsten, Thanks, mate! Letβs see if it was mostly luck the first time or if this second run turns out even better β fingers crossed! π€π»big hug!
Great initiative, mate, we love it! π At Kannabia, weβre excited to see which of our girls will become a beautiful βKannabonsaiβ π±β¨. We can't wait for the cultivatorsβ decision!
@MonyetDiablero, We're still choosing one strain out of the three possible options so I can officially take on the role of her plant daddy haha! Big hug, mate!π
I love Bonsai grows. I incorporate some of Bonsai techniques in my outdoor grows. Mainly using Bonsai wires for LST and bending stems and branches towards the sun.
@12131980, Same here! Iβve been learning a lot from these bonsai projects β itβs been really fun applying some of that knowledge to my LST training in regular grows too. It makes some difference! ππ±
@Kushycat, Both work well, although I believe autos are a bit easier when it comes to managing time and space. But doing it with photoperiods is definitely more challenging β and thatβs exactly what Iβm aiming for in my next bonsai project. I just need to upgrade my setup so I can grow the bonsai without taking space from the others in the tent. Thatβs also why Iβve only done it with autos so far β the shorter grow time allows me to keep the plant in the tent for less time and even have it out for a while, like Iβm doing now, and still get solid development.
Thanks @MonyetDiablero, π€π»π Sheβs adapting well, and that already makes me happy β but Iβm also really looking forward to the flowering stage! My personal goal this time is to see if I can grow bigger buds than my previous bonsai (even though that one still gave me 3 or 4 solid buds)
