Growing fast! Amazing! Gave first nutes - 1/4 of the recommended dosage. Total: 250ml water. I accidently forgot to add B'Cuzz Root Stimulator, will add in next watering...

Grow Questions

AlphaWinner42started grow question 6 years ago
Was this the right time to harvest?- I would say around 20-30% of the trichomes were amber (check close-up photos). From what I read - it's even a bit too "ripe", and if I wanted an uplifting high - I should harvest when the trichomes are mostly milky-white with only a bit amber

Hi @AlphaWinner42! Pistils can be a clue, if you noticed that new pistils have stopped appearing and old pistils have almost all turned red/brown and curly, but the best way to ensure it's the right time is to look at the trichomes with a magnifier/microscope. Clear/Transparent/Thin trichomes mean it's too soon, Milky/Cloudy/Fat trichomes mean the harvest window is open, Amber trichomes mean the harvest window is ending, and THC is degrading (less THC, more CBD/CBN). As long as most of the trichomes have turned from clear and thin to fat and milky you know the 'harvest window' is open, even if you don't see any amber. Harvesting too soon (too many clear trichs) will result in a uplifting/energetic effect but you will lose some terpenes & oil potential. Waiting longer (too many amber trichs) will result in a heavy stone/couchlocking effect. Hand-held microscopes can be found for a few dollars on the internet or at your local growshop. Hope this will help, keep us up-to-date and happy growing 👊

It really depends on what you wanted out of the harvest. If you were looking for more psychoactive effects, maybe a more social high, then yes: it might be a little late, at least on the top-most buds. The mid and lower ones are likely to be less far along. If you were looking for sleeping medicine or something to help manage pain; the more amber trichomes exhibit those qualities, because the THC (psychoactive effects) will have begun to oxidize; leaving you with CBN (great for sleep/pain). That’s the most wonderful part about growing your own. You can select the strain that best suits your purposes AND you can choose when to harvest so that it best suit your purposes too.

Hi mate your question is pretty much answered by yourself Because it is entirely up to the grower how he/she prefers their stone. You are absolutely correct that the more amber triches the more of a physical type stone and the opposite (less amber more clouded) results in a head rush type high that may or may not last less than the body stone feeling of longer matured bud. Hope this helps and remember it's about what you like not what the majority like ✊

Comparing to other growers with this strain - she sure looks small in size :( What do you thinkg may be the cause? Can Root-bound in the smaller (initial) pot be the reason (see week 3)? Transplant shock? Or is it too early to draw conclusions?

I would leave her a bit longer.. I don’t see any amber trichomes.

@AlphaWinner42, you have to check out the trichomes from the flowers not the trichomes from the leaves.

@AlphaWinner42, they are ready :) You could leave them a little longer but it’s not necessary.

@CoastGrower, I added 3 more close-ups of the trichomes, there were I'd say around 20-30% amber ones (like in the pictures). Do you still think I should have waited longer?

@Fast_Buds, I think I switched way too late to bloom - which caused this... I'm trying to save her...

@AlphaWinner42, It seems like you have some nutrient deficiency, have you switched to bloom nutes???

@Fast_Buds, Hey! Thanks! Can you please check out the photos in Week 8? Lara's leaves are getting yellow :( Thanks!

You're watering with three types of additives right now , these are causing issues with the uptake of calcium and magnesium. With a heavy light schedule like 24/7, you're getting magnesium issues as the plant is going into overdrive and just needs that much magnesium to deal with the lights. If you add magnesium and reduce the light schedule to 18/6 the plant will get worse a bit slower and hopefully the problem will stop spreading in two weeks time.

@CRiSPrGrow, I switched lights to 18-6 and gave a watering with FLOWER nutes (no more VEG nutes). I now understand I was wayyy late with the FLOWER nutes... Rookies mistake :) Hopefully will stop spreading and the will get fatter and ripe cola's till harvest time...

Its all up to you when you like to harvest your buds mate depending on the type of high you are wanting to achieve. (see above answer to your question for more info)😁
Athos
Athoscommentedweek 156 years ago
Yes it is the right time to harvest, Although amber thricomes will give you a more stoned high, harvesting while clear / cloudy will not turn an indica into a sativa. If you want to get an uplifting high, get a strain as close to 100% sativa as you can get your hand on, even strins that are 90% sativas pale in comparisson to a 100% sativas, unfortunately this will rule out auto strains.

@AlphaWinner42 hi there did you ever find an answer to your above question?? 👆 I beleive it's entirely up to the end user as to when they prefer to harvest.
