Mom’s 3rd Indoor Grow- Sour Crack

Here we grow again and this time it’s Memphisto Genetics Sour Crack! Not much to talk about yet as two of the little ladies are only 1 week old and the other two just came up today. So here’s the breakdown for this my 3rd indoor grow: I seem to be very lucky when starting seedlings and once again I had a 100% germination rate! All 4 seeds were planted in damp Jiffy peat pellets on a Tuesday evening (C & D were planted exactly one week after A & B) and up out of the dirt by the following Saturday morning. So, about 4 days for these beauties to actually germinate. I then move them over to their final 5 gallon fabric pots and watch them grow! FYI- I date my plants from the day they break soil not from the day I plant the seed. Plants A & B are at the end of week 1, both at day #7. Looking healthy so far! Plants C & D are just up from seed this morning, day #1. These ladies are exactly one week apart. No nutrients as of yet but I will be starting with 0.5 of a ml/litre starting on day 10. As for watering, it’s 500 mls (a standard plastic water bottle) for each plant every other/second day. The water is adjusted using General Hydroponics PH down to a final PH of 6.0. I also keep a gentle fan on these gals from day one, keeping them moving just a little to ensure strong stems and branches. So it’s the end of week 2 for plants A & B and the end of week 1 for plants C & D. There’s not a whole lot to talk about as the plants are still so small but here’s the rundown for week 2 of the Sour Crack grow... Plants A & B- are both looking great so far. They are already growing their 3rd set of true leaves hopefully with 5 finger blades each. Although these ladies are only about 2 inches tall, they are already forming little leaves where branches will be growing soon. I’ve never seen a plant this young working so hard to push branches instead of focusing on vertical growth. Plants A & B were fed this past week starting on Day 10. Plants C & D- are doing well for only being a week old. They are just beginning to push out their 2nd set of true leaves hopefully with 3 finger blades each. They are about 1 inch tall and looking healthy moving forward. Water and Nutrients- all 4 plants are being watered every other day at a rate of 500 mls each per watering (a standard disposable plastic water bottle=500 mls). Plants A & B were started on nutes on Day 10. I am once again using Advanced Nutrients Sensi Bloom parts A & B starting out with a dose of 0.5 mls per litre. This amount will increase again at intervals of one week and by Day 17- they will be upped to 1 ml/litre. Plants C & D have only had PH’d water so far but they will be starting with the same nutrient schedule as thier older sisters when they reach their own Day 10 this coming week. Hello everyone, it’s already the end of week 3 for Plants A & B and the end of week 2 for Plants C & D. Other than lowering the lights a little, it’s been a pretty quiet week in the tent. In regards to the lighting, both fixtures were lowered twice- about 5 days apart & 4 inches lower each time, leaving them at approximately 30" above the plants for now. I am rotating the plants from front to back weekly so that all of them can take advantage of various positions within the tent. All 4 ladies seem to be tolerating the lighting changes happily sunbathing their days away... envious ;) Plants A & B- have grown considerably over the past week. Plant B has taken the lead as the larger of the two but both of these gals appear to be extremely healthy, lush and green. They began showing their sex this past week with tiny white pistols appearing on both plants and branch development continues at an unprecedented pace to anything I’ve grown previously. They are still short at only 5" at 3 weeks but I’ve always believed that good things come in small packages! Plants C & D- are right on schedule, exactly one week behind their older sisters. Plant C is the smaller of the two but both of them have developed their second set of true leaves with 3 fingers each. The third set is already pushing through, hopefully with 5 fingers a piece! Once again the tiny leaves are growing where branches will soon be and both plants should grow quickly over the upcoming week. Plants C & D are 2" tall at 2 weeks and looking great! Watering and Nutes- all 4 plants are still being watered every second day with 500 mls or a 1/2 litre per feeding. The 2 larger ladies will have their water increased this upcoming week to 750 mls maybe even 1 litre per feeding. As far as nutes go, Plants A & B had their nutes increased on day #17 to 1 ml/litre. Plants C & D were started on nutes on day #10 at a rate of .05 ml/litre. All 4 plants A,B,C & D seem to be well fed/watered so far and I will adjust as per needed. Well it’s the end of week 4 for Plants A & B and the end of week 3 for C & D. All 4 plants are growing well and things have been pleasantly uneventful in the tent. Spring is finally here in Canada and the temps inside the tent are reflecting that with 80-82 degrees on the really nice days. The plants seem to be loving the warmth and higher humidity levels typical to a classic Canadian spring. Plants A & B- have both doubled their vertical height this past week as well as bushing out quite nicely. Plant A is the taller of the two currently measuring in at 11" tall. She is more sparse yet healthy, green and happy. Plant B is shorter at 10" tall but super bushy and branching out like crazy! I have been ponytailing the upper growth of both plants for 6-8 hours, everyother day to encourage lower branch growth. I have also begun with some LST to spread those lower branches out beyond the upper canopy. I might also add that leaf tucking is absolutely essential at this stage of growth. Keeping those large fan leaves tucked beneath new growth tips allows for maximum light penetration without having to remove leaves altogether- ouch! Plants A & B are both looking like they are in pre-flower so I’m hoping for at least another week of strong vertical growth before full budding kicks in... Plants C & D- are both measuring in at around 5" tall each and looking great so far. Plant C seems to be the runt of this litter as she is the smallest and has had the slowest branch development so far. She is absolutely healthy, just taking her sweet time compared to her sisters. Plant D is actually 5.5" tall and was the first of these two plants to show her sex at the beginning of this past week. Both plants are now showing sex with lots of tiny white pistols growing up all over! Hopefully Plants C & D experience their much needed growth spurt this upcoming week so that I can start with some LST/ponytailing with these gals too! Water and Nutes- all 4 plants are being watered every second day with 1 litre per feeding and they seem to be fine with it so far. As for nutes, A & B were upped on day 24 to 1.5 mls/litre or 6 mls/gallon of base nutes and I’ve added in .5 ml/litre of CalMag for good measure too. I find that most plants grown under LED lighting in soilless medium will need a little CalMag to keep green and healthy throughout the entire grow. Plants C & D were also upped on their day 17 to 1 ml/litre or 4 mls/gallon of base nutes and will have the CalMag added in this upcoming week. So far so good, the nutrients seem to be adequately feeding all 4 of these lovely ladies! So, it’s the end of week 5- day 35 for plants A & B and the end of week 4- day 28 for plants C & D. Temperatures are still pleasant within the tent at anywhere from 78-80 degrees and the humidity is good (compared to my usual) coming in at 35-40%. These lovely ladies are almost halfway through this grow (according to Memphisto Genetics) and all 4 plants are growing nicely with no major issues or deficiencies. Plants A & B- are both fully into flower at this point. Plant A is the tallest of the entire group measuring in at 18". She has continued to stretch this past week gaining an additional 7" (1 inch/day). Plant B is 15" tall and remains the bushiest of the group. Unfortunately she has not stretched much this past week, only putting on an additional 5" (.72 inch/day). Because both plants are now flowering, I have just begun using Advanced Nutrients Big Bud to give them a much needed Potassium/Phosphorus boost. Hopefully this will encourage the development of more bud sites- if anything it will simply keep the plants from experiencing any deficiencies during this crucial time. Plants C & D- are both pre-flower at this time. Plant C is still the runt of the litter measuring in at 10" tall. She continues to lag behind her sister in every way (overall size, branch development and preflowers) yet seems to be absolutely healthy. Plant D is growing well at 11" tall and is not as full as her sisters but bushing out steadily. I have been ponytailing and LST’ing with both plants C & D to encourage lower branch growth/development and they seem to be responding well so far. I have also been leaf tucking whenever possible with all 4 plants in an effort to expose all new growth to as much light as possible. Water and nutrients- all 4 plants are still being watered every second day with air bubbled water slightly below room temperature. I have increased the amount to 2 litres/plant per feeding or 1 litre per day per plant. This is not enough to have run off out the bottom of the pot but nutrients are so expensive that I don’t see much sense in wasting them or having standing water in the bottom of the tent. Plants A & B are now at full strength nutrients for this grow (half of what you would feed a photoperiod plant). They are receiving 8 mls/gallon of base nutes parts A & B, 4 mls/gallon of Big Bud and 2.5 mls/gallon of CalMag Plus per feeding. Plants C & D are almost there at 6 mls/gallon of base nutes and 2.5 mls/gallon of CalMag per feeding. The older two of the four plants were looking droopy/wilted towards the end of this past week. They have since perked up and are looking much better after adding in the extra P & K found in the Big Bud. That’s about it for week #5 with the Memphisto Genetics Sour Crack! As the buds begin to develop- the excitement also starts to grow! I can’t wait to see what these small plants produce, the quality/taste of the smoke and how long this strain actually takes to mature/harvest. So, it’s the end of week 6- day 42 for plants A & B and end of week 5- day 35 for plants C & D. I made a change in the tent this past week by adding in the second of two Amazon blurple lights that I own from days gone by... So going further into flowering I’ve got 4 fixtures in the tent using 450 true watts and the plants seem to be lovin it! My temperature is a consistent 80-82 degrees and with all the rain we’ve had recently the humidity is 45-50%. The Electric Sky 180 provides a well balanced natural white light while the cheap blurple’s give the deep reds that these ladies crave in flower. Almost perfect conditions for lush green plants but unfortunately something has been off all week long... :( Plants A & B- both started showing some rusty patches on their older, lower fan leaves. It quickly progressed to yellowing, dying leaves which I have already removed from the plants. They’ve got red petioles, red striping up the main stalk & leaves curling down and after doing some research- I believe that I am dealing with a Phosphorus deficiency. I should have added in the Big Bud immediately when these ladies started flowering as they are obviously craving the extra P & K to remain 100% healthy/happy. The yellowing has slowed significantly/almost stopped since adding in the P/K booster and both plants are looking alright for now. Plant A is now 19" tall while plant B is measuring in at 16". I am hoping that the base nutes + the Big Bud will be enough to pull these gals through until they are mature/ready for harvest. Bud production has really taken off despite the suspected deficiency and they are both frosting up nicely! Plants C & D- were showing the beginnings of the same Phosphorus deficiency but because they are a week behind their sisters- I’ve been able to treat it sooner hopefully preventing significant damage. I have started them on the Big Bud earlier than originally planned and removed a few lower affected leaves but they don’t seem to be yellowing out as much. I suspect that plant C might be close to a touch of Nitrogen toxicity as some of her leaves have hooked tips and she’s pretty dark green. But both plants are holding in there and have continued to stretch this past week. Plant C (aka "the runt") has moved into 3rd place within the group measuring in at 15" tall while plant D falls into 4th place at 14.5". Plant C, although growing taller this past week is still well behind in bud development compared to all the others. Both plants C & D are now fully into flower despite the issues affecting the tent. Water & Nutes- all 4 plants are now receiving the same amount of water/feed every second day. 2 gallons/plant per feeding containing 8 mls/gallon of base nutes + 4 mls/gallon of Big Bud + 2.5 mls/gallon of CalMag Plus. That’s it for this week, hopefully things stabilize a little going forward and I can keep these plants healthy and productive. Growing herb indoors is more challenging than I ever expected yet I welcome the learning curve. I am gaining valuable knowledge every time I encounter and conquer a new problem within the tent. Okay, sorry for the late update for this past week but I’ve been super busy with spring chores. So, it’s the end of week 7 for plants A & B and the end of week 6 for C & D. I’ll keep things short and sweet for this update. Plants A & B- are budding nicely as they should be and I seem to have the Phosphorus and CalMag issues under control. I have still had some yellowing leaves with some rust spotting too but I’ve just continued with defoliating the damaged leaves. Plants C & D- plant D is doing great but C is in big trouble! Within a week, she went from having 2 super curly leaves at the very bottom of the plant (that have been there for the whole grow) to almost every leaf on the entire plant curling like crazy! There are a few tiny rust spots on a few of the leaves but overall the majority of the leaves are still completely green. As the leaves get worse, they do develop brown/necrotic spots and then dry out/become crispy. The buds have stopped growing and the entire plant appears to be slowly dying. So, I flushed her and she seems to have perked up a little but I’m still stumped. Is this a deficiency, root rot, Nitrogen toxicity or what? I can’t find a photo of anything online that resembles the super curly leaves and if things don’t change- I’m gonna lose this one :( I’m posting a grow question below... I flushed all 4 plants this past week because I was flushing plant C for her issues. I followed with a light nutrient solution and I haven’t watered since. I’ve been checking daily with a moisture meter to make sure they were almost dry before watering again but they are taking a long time! I thought the ProMix HP would dry out faster but I really soaked them and the humidity has been high so they are taking their sweet time. I will resume my feed/water schedule once the plants are ready. That’s it for now, I’m hoping for improvement in the upcoming week. Thx.

So, we’re almost there now! It’s day 56, the end of week 8 for plants A & B and day 49, end of week 7 for plants C & D. Things have been a little crazy this past week as all 4 plants are still suffering with some sort of problem (possible deficiency or excess of nutes?). I’m still not quite sure what’s going on and I’ve done everything that I know to do and the fan leaves are still dying. I’m just trying to nurse them through to maturity and a successful harvest. After flushing all 4 plants, I’ve decided to keep things clean and simple by watering with nothing more than air bubbled, just below room temp water with 5 mls of AN Overdrive and 4 mls of CalMag PH’d down to 5.8. I am now watering every 3rd day as they don’t seem to be drinking as much and so far- all 4 plants seem to be responding well. Even the sickly plant C is still trying to do her job and produce some viable bud. Due to heavy rust spotting, then brown spots leading to dry/crispy/dead leaves- I have defoliated almost daily leaving almost no fan leaves on plants A,B & C at this point. Plant D has been the healthiest of the group throughout this entire grow and she also appears to have the most resin so far. Speaking of trichomes, I took some samples from both plants A & B for a 1st look and was surprised to see that even though they are not fully cloudy- there are amber trichs already! Possible harvest at the end of next week- day 63 if things are ready. These ladies smell divine- like ripe mangos with a hint of skunky perfection and they are wet to the touch with sticky, frosty resin. So 2 down and 2 to go. Plants A & B were harvested on day 63, end of week 9 while plants C & D remain in the tent to finish out another week, maybe even two. I’ve done a wet trim as always but I decided to hang branches this time instead of popping all the buds off and using screens. The finished product is hanging in my cold cellar drying at a temp of around 68 degrees with a RH of 45%. Trimming was easy this time around as I chose to leave a lot more of the sugar leaves tucked into the buds. Everything was wet with resin and the smell was overpowering as it spread throughout the house- ripe mangos, skunk and that dank, diesel/ gassy undertone again. Although the yield is much smaller than I’d originally hoped for, the quality seems out of this world! Until next week, happy growing everyone... 😎

So, It’s the end of my 3rd indoor grow and even though these plants were more challenging than I expected, it was a success! Plants C & D were harvested on day 63 and the wet weight was 243 grams. So, with all 4 plants combined, we ended up with 628 grams wet/approximately 128 grams dry. The smoke is sublime and tastes pretty good already, after only 7-10 days of drying (pre-cure). I can’t wait to try growing this strain again and growing it sooo much better. I would highly recommend the Sour Crack for anyone growing in a small space yet looking for high quality bud. My hubby has developed quite the tolerance to herb over the years but this strain got him nicely high for the first time in a long while. I love the mango smell/flavour, the short/strong plant stature and the Indica density of the buds during flowering. Overall, I am satisfied with this grow and would suggest that everyone give Mephisto Genetics Sour Crack a try...you won’t be disappointed!0
