DeepWaterGrower Welcome to my new diary! I'll be chronicling my experience growing Runtz photoperiod by Zamnesia. This is actually a grow I just finished, but I'm excited to share the journey with you now. As always I'll grow in a DWC system, this time in a 2x2 grow tent. To manage the environment, I'm using a Vents TT100 for air extraction and an Hailea air pump to keep the 20-liter DWC pot well-oxygenated. That 20-liter capacity should be enough to let the plant cruise for a few days without needing a refill, even when it's deep into the flowering stage. Lighting will be provided by a 150 watt lamp, which I'll run on an 18/6 schedule during veg and switch to 12/12 for flowering. As for nutrients, I'll be using the Plagron hydro line. To keep a really close eye on all the critical parameters like temperature, RH, CO2, PH, and PPFD, I'm relying on my Tent-X system by TrolMaster. It's a fantastic piece of kit that allows me to control and dim the light remotely, also includes a smoke detector. 🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱 GROW JOURNAL 🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱 🗓️ WEEK 1 (veg) 🔙 Kicking things off, I prepared all the materials. The clay pebbles received a 20-minute boil followed by a 24-hour soak in demineralized water adjusted to pH 5.8. I gave the air stones a 24-hour bath in a water and vinegar solution, rinsing them thoroughly afterward. The root riot cube also soaked for a few hours in water at pH 5.8. 🌱 With preparations complete, I placed the seed into the root-riot cube on day 1, nestled it in the net-pot, and surrounded it with clay pebbles. The light was set to an 18/6 cycle, positioned 50 cm away, and running at 50 watts. I hand-watered the seedling with approximately 5 ml of demineralized water directly onto the clay twice daily, while the DWC reservoir below held 20 liters of a light nutrient solution: EC 0.6 - pH 5.8. On day 4, the seedling emerged and was exposed to the grow light for the first time. Concluding a successful first week, by day 7, it had already pushed several roots out of the net pot and down into the nutrient solution.

DeepWaterGrower 🗓️ WEEK 2 (veg) 🔙 The first week proceeded very well, and the seedling is growing robustly and quickly, even though the humidity and temperature in the grow box are on the low side. 🌱 This second week passed quite smoothly with minimal intervention required. The light was set to 75 watts, maintaining the same distance. I only needed to moisten the substrate once daily with about 20 ml of demineralized water. I also monitored the DWC solution's pH, correcting it whenever the probe indicated it was drifting outside the ideal range for this stage (5.6-5.9). The EC remained stable at 0.6 throughout the week. Towards the end of the week, I removed the first set of true leaves, as they were growing slightly too close to the substrate.

DeepWaterGrower 🗓️ WEEK 3 (veg) 💧 Her water uptake increased noticeably (about 1 LT/day), and the new leaves exhibit a perfect, healthy color. Due to this increased demand, I raised the EC to 1 to ensure she receives adequate nutrients. 🌱 The difference in growth between the start and end of this week is significant. The plant continues to stay quite short and compact, which I don't mind at all, especially considering the space limitations experienced during my last run. Naturally, this time, both the environmental conditions and the genetics are entirely different. Similar to last week, I concluded the week by removing a few of the lower leaves growing too close to the substrate. This week, I set the light power to 100 watts, keeping the same distance.

DeepWaterGrower 🗓️ WEEK 4 (veg) ⚙️ In this final week of the vegetative stage, I increased the lamp’s intensity to 100% while positioning it 60 cm away from the plant. My thinking here is that starting next week, we're flipping to a 12/12 light cycle, and I'll let the plant grow closer to the light, down to about 35 cm, without needing to dim it further. I also added a coal filter, since it starts to feel some smells. 💧 I raised the EC to 1.2, and the plant appears to be thriving, consuming roughly 1.5 liters per day. The pH has consistently fluctuated between 5.8 and 6.0. On day 28, I drained the DWC reservoir and started a 24-hour flush using tap water EC 0.6 - pH 5.8. This prepares the plant for the new nutrient solution that will be introduced during the upcoming transition phase. 🌱 She's growing really bushy and is still compact. To conclude the week, I performed another light defoliation, removing some lower, older leaves. The new growth looks excellent – all leaves display a beautiful, healthy green color, showing no signs of deficiencies.

DeepWaterGrower 🗓️ WEEK 1 / DAYS 1-7 (flo) 🔙 The first four weeks of vegetation went remarkably smoothly. I gradually increased the EC from 0.6 to 1.2, and the plant responded with healthy, compact growth. By the end of week 4, the plant was bushy, vibrant green, and ready for the flip after a 24-hour flush. 💧 At the beginning of this week I introduced a new nutrient solution with EC 1.6 - PH 6 and also started adding a flowering stimulator to the mix, Power Buds by Plagron. She's definitely thirsty, drinking about 2 LT/day, and importantly, isn't showing any signs of stress from the change. 🌱 With the switch to the 12/12 light cycle, the plant has started the stretching, increasing in height from 21 cm to 29 cm. It's also become incredibly bushy! Given her still relatively contained height, I've decided I won't be using a SCROG net.

DeepWaterGrower 🗓️ WEEK 2 / DAYS 8-14 (flo) 💧 To tackle this week, I've increased the EC to 1.8, PH is nicely oscillating between 5.9 and 6.1. Her thirst is definitely increasing, as she's now drinking about 2.5 LT/day. 🌱 As early as day 10 of flowering she was already clearly showing preflowers – much earlier than any other photoperiod strains I've grown before, I'm really impressed! The plant seems to have undergone a complete metamorphosis and has become absolutely beautiful; you can really see it in the video I took on day 14 flo. Around mid-week, I did another round of defoliation – nothing too extreme, but it was necessary to improve air circulation and expose more of those preflower sites to the light. In terms of stretching, she shot up from 29 cm to 42 cm this week!

DeepWaterGrower 🗓️ WEEK 3 / DAYS 15-21 (flo) 💧 There is no changes to the DWC solution this week. The EC, pH, and her daily water uptake all remained identical to last week. 🌱 The third week of flowering began with a substantial defoliation session. The plant was becoming incredibly bushy, and this could be counterproductive later in advanced flowering, both for light exposure and for managing humidity levels in the grow box. She's continuing to develop her preflowers nicely, and absorbed the stress in a couple of days. She's still stretching too, going from 42 cm to 54 cm in height this week.

DeepWaterGrower 🗓️ WEEK 4 / DAYS 22-28 (flo) 💧 The fourth week of flowering is marked by the introduction of a PK 8/9 booster, Green Sensation, into the nutrient solution. This joins the Power Buds flowering stimulator already in use since the transition phase, precisely following the Plagron feeding schedule. Consequently, given the plant's current needs, we are increasing the concentration of phosphorus and potassium in the nutrient mix. The pH is oscillating between 5.9 and 6.2, and she is consuming approximately 3 liters per day. 🌱 The plant is now entering the full flowering stage and appears to be in great condition. She is still stretching, having grown from 54 cm to 65 cm in height this week, although this is expected to cease shortly. Encouragingly, several side branches have almost reached the same height as the central cola, which is excellent news for uniform light absorption (look at day 27 flo). Towards the end of the week, I performed another substantial defoliation, 13 days after the previous one, and also removed the lowest branches that were not receiving sufficient light. Having already undergone several defoliations during the vegetative and transition phases, the plant is responding well even to this significant intervention during this delicate stage.

DeepWaterGrower 🗓️ WEEK 5 / DAYS 29-35 (flo) 💧 There were no changes to the nutrient solution this week, maintaining EC 2.0 - pH 6. My main action has been topping up the reservoir with 5 LT of this solution every two days. 🌱 The stretching phase concluded this week, with the plant reaching her final height: 69 cm. She is now focusing on filling out her flowers, and her foliage is taking on a noticeably darker hue, typical for the later stages of flowering. At this point, there's less active work to do; the focus shifts to maintaining stable environmental parameters and ensuring the pH remains in the correct range to avoid stressing the plant.

DeepWaterGrower 🗓️ WEEK 6 / DAYS 36-42 (flo) 💧 Similar to last week, the nutrient solution composition remained unchanged, except for a slight upward adjustment in the target pH, now oscillating around 6/6.2. I am still replenishing the reservoir with 5 LT every two days. 🌱 The buds are visibly swelling day by day and the plant appears to be in excellent health. Resin production is ramping up, becoming noticeable on the sugar leaves and flowers, and she continues to show no signs of stress. Starting next week, I will begin monitoring the trichomes closely.

DeepWaterGrower 🗓️ WEEK 7 (flo) 💧 As is my usual practice during the penultimate week of flowering, I prefer to completely cut out nitrogen from the DWC reservoir. Instead, the focus shifts entirely to phosphorus, potassium, and flowering stimulators. This time, the process is quite straightforward: I'm using Green Sensation, but at a decidedly higher concentration than usual. This approach offers the benefit of working with fewer products overall and helps in reducing the potential accumulation of salts around the root zone. 🌱 Starting this week, I began closely inspecting the buds to gauge their maturity. Currently, about 20% of the pistils have browned. As for the trichomes, my assessment is approximately 15% clear, 80% milky/cloudy and 5% amber.

DeepWaterGrower 🗓️ WEEK 8 (flo) - HARVEST WEEK (56° FLO) 💧 Midway through this final week of flowering, I performed a complete DWC reservoir change. I replaced the nutrient solution with plain tap water, EC 0.4 - pH 5.8. This flushing solution was maintained for 4 days, right up until the moment of harvest. 🌱 On the 56° day of flowering (day 84 from the dry seed), the plant appeared perfectly ready for harvest. The buds are dense and glistening with resin, nearly all pistils have browned and retracted, and the trichomes show a beautiful mix of milky and enough amber. Immediately after chopping her down, I removed all the large fan leaves and I've decided to dry these too as they are remarkably full of resin.

DeepWaterGrower 🌱 VEGETATIVE (4 weeks) The Runtz seed, placed in a root-riot cube within a DWC net pot, successfully sprouted by day 4, under an 18/6 light cycle (50W at 50cm). The first week saw the seedling establish itself, with roots extending into the DWC reservoir. During the second week, despite slightly low humidity and temperature, the seedling demonstrated robust and rapid growth. Light intensity was increased to 75W. Towards the end of this week, I removed the first set of true leaves as they were growing too close to the substrate. The third week marked a noticeable increase in the plant's water uptake (1 LT/day), which prompted me to raise the nutrient solution's EC to 1.0. The plant showed significant development while maintaining a compact stature – a trait I appreciated. In the fourth and final week of vegetation, as odors began to emerge, I installed a carbon filter, raised the EC to 1.2, keep the pH in the right range and boosted the light intensity further to 150W. By the end of this phase, the plant was bushy, compact (21 cm height), and healthy. 🌸 FLOWERING (8 weeks) For the first week I switched the light cycle to 12/12 and introduced a new nutrient solution adding Power Buds to the mix. During the second week I was impressed to see preflowers clearly visible as early as day 10 of flowering. So, during the third week I made a substantial defoliation session to manage the plant's increasing bushiness, which I knew would be crucial for later-stage light penetration and humidity control. In the fourth week I introduced a PK 8/9 booster, Green Sensation, thereby increasing the phosphorus and potassium concentration in the solution, water consumption around 3 LT/day. Towards the end of the week, I performed another significant defoliation, including the removal of lower, light-starved branches, to which the plant responded well. During the fifth week the stretching phase concluded, with the plant reaching its final height of 69cm. Its focus shifted to bud development, and the foliage began to adopt a darker hue. At this point, my role was primarily to maintain stable environmental parameters and a correct pH in reservoir. During the sixth week buds were visibly swelling daily, the plant remained in excellent health, and resin production became more pronounced. For the seventh week I implemented a change in feeding, completely cutting the nitrogen from the DWC solution, using only Green Sensation at a higher concentration. In the eighth and final week of flowering (week 12 overall), I performed a complete DWC reservoir change. I filled it with plain tap water and maintained this for 4 days leading up to harvest. On day 56 of flowering (84 from seed), the Runtz plant appeared perfectly ready. The buds were dense and glistening, pistils mostly browned and retracted, and trichomes displayed a good mix of milky and some amber. Immediately after harvesting her, I removed the fan leaves, deciding to dry these as well due to their remarkable resin content. ✅ DRYING The entire plant was hung to dry inside the grow box, which was kept completely dark with constant, gentle air circulation for 8 days. The average VPD during this period was maintained around 1.2 (approximately 20°C and 50% RH). Once this drying period was complete, I trimmed off all the sugar leaves. These resinous sugar leaves will be combined with the already dried fan leaves and larf buds, and I plan to use them to make cannabutter for edibles. ⚖️ Dry weight After the 8-day drying period, and once all the remaining small leaves and branches were removed from the buds, I weighed the final product: The harvest yielded: - 150 grams of dense buds and 5 grams of finger hash. For edibles: - 30 grams of larf and a large amount of fan and sugar leaves. ✅ CURING For the curing process, the dried buds were placed in a large, airtight glass jar. This jar was stored in a dark location within a room maintaining a stable temperature of around 20°C for a total of 45 days. The burping schedule was as follows: Day 1-7: twice daily for 10 min. Day 8-10: once daily for 10 min. Day 11-14: every other day for 10 min. Day 15-21: every 3 days for 10 min. Day 22-30: every 4 days for 10 min. Day 31-45: No burping. 📑 SMOKE REVIEW - At 15 days cured a vegetal note is still quite present and the smoke is a bit harsh, typical for a short cure. The effects are already pleasant and potent, very promising. - After 30 days of curing, the Runtz has improved considerably. The vegetal smell has mostly faded, giving way to a much more defined sweet and fruity fragrance reminiscent of candy and berries. The smoke is noticeably smooth, euphoric effects are dominant. - At 45 days, Runtz has expressed its full potential and is now perfectly cured for daily enjoyment. The aroma is intense and complex, an explosive mix of sweet candy and tropical notes. The effects are potent, starting with an uplifting cerebral euphoria that evolves into a pleasant body relaxation, without leading to couch-lock. 🍕 I also made cannabutter which I used to finish a risotto. The result was insane – both the risotto itself and the potency of the cannabutter were exceptional!
