Finally got these girls outside! The weather here has been so inconsistent it was long over due. They all seem to be very healthy, and i've started LST on the 2 Autos. Unfortunately my dog ate the GSE seedling when I was transplanting, so starting that one over again, she'll be about 3 weeks behind the others. I've maintained watering them with GH feed schedule, staying in vegetative growth week. My plan is to feed them weekly and water with PH"d RO'd water with some seaweed and molasses in between. Every other week I'll make a compost tea and throw that in the cycle. Going to give them a few more days to get rooted and will probably top the photo's. So far so good, other than the dog eating one haha.

Grow Questions

If you check in the video above with the soil I have a lot of natural water occurring in the holes. What's the best way to prevent root rot from occurring given the circumstances?

ive grown a ton of tomatoes and peppers in containers and from my experience that won't really happen man. the plants are gonna be hella happy in that thing no matter what there is area for the roots to dig into and grow in the ground, it doesnt mean that those roots need to necessarily have a job, and some roots may rot, but it doesn't mean that that root was useful anyway. it may have grown for a specific part of the plant and then rotted and the plant then signals the rest of the plant to uptake from other roots. the amount of roots in the ground doesn't mean much because a plant can only grow so fast and so optimally, beyond that it will fix every problem given the right environment. the environment your giving it is like plant-steroids habitat. the plant will not have needed the potentially rotted root if it ''rots'' in this great environment you are giving it. it would simply just discard it while fungus bacteria trichodermia and other bioturbulent insects would clear the way for more roots to grow anyway. I saw your vid of watering the soil I think your 300 dollar tent is awesome and I wish when I built mine I could have beena bit more simpler, Now im downsizing and im going to use that little pvc tube thing to encase my little grow area because a squared wooden roof was just a stupid idea. yours looks so simple dang. wish I didn't put so much thought into mine.

Should I top plants outdoors? I'd imagine the sun would be powerful enough to penetrate an uneven canopy, however I don't have unlimited growspace, Depending on how tall these girls get they could very easily grow through the literal ceiling. Any thoughts?

I’m not sure how high your ceiling is and the average height of each of your strains but If you think that height will be an issue then I’d say top them. From what I’ve seen there may not be much difference in yield cause the sun can penetrate deeply, but if you don’t mind losing a few days growth, then save yourself a hassle down the track and just top them once.

They look really good...but strange thing... they look really familiar, and similar... https://growdiaries.s3-accelerate.amazonaws.com/static/post/photo/19262/1003748_continuation-of-first-growcustomsativa-dominant-hybrids.jpg I mean, apart from those 2 rejects on the left. Bizarrely, my dog ran over one of my eventually best plants (pink red pistil dense landrace thing), it seemed to help.

@Vega0284, Yeah, when the branches are almost vertical (in the wrong direction) you gotta do something.

Nice dude, I like reading about the companion plants there. I've had a bunch of those dropped off by birds for me (outdoors though) and checked that stuff out a lot too. I basically just let all the datura grow, well and mostly whatever else. Your plants look like slow starters, but really healthy, though I noticed, some of my slower starters ended up being a bit freakish. I've had my new seedlings (maybe 4 weeks old) outdoor most of the time since they sprouted, they're doing really well, except for two rejects. SUN ASAP. If you don't mind my asking, what's a soil gnat? I'm not sure I know those. Edit: Nm, Just checked, fungus gnats, that's usually related to humidity. Use some sticky tape, preferably yellow, but even masking tape works great, near your plants (or around the pot, trunks/stems assuming they're large enough). I actually dealt with heavy fungus gnat infestation at one point (multiple plants) due to torrential rain. Used a bunch of random crap (plant teas, sunflower/sesame oil, chillies, etc) and sticky tape, covered topsoil with sand., they disappeared within a few days. The gnats can really mess up new, especially lower branch growth.

@@Ssomeguy, Thats awesome feedback man! I appreciate it, yep I'm putting them out today, worst comes to worst and night time temps drop i can run a heater out there, Yeah I was interested in the companion planting as a way to help regulate pests and provide natural nutrients. The sand is a great idea, as the greenhouse itself is pretty humid right now with all the wet weather, I was thinking of only doing top soil amendments, but if the humidity seems to be a problem, and the sand is necessary, I'll switch to liquid nutrients to supplement the soil. Thanks for the comments and feedback again!

@Vega0284, Good luck dude. I've had some really low light conditions lately too, but I doubt it's anything like what's been going on in the "big AG" areas of america lately. Do you like palmer amaranth? Stuff like that's gonna be replacing soy and wheat and such. "It's just a spring clean for the May Queen..." www.youtube.com/watch Sorry, I'm insane. Warned people, oh well. *Sssshhh* That means Bayer/monsanto goes away.

Looks excellent. Your manuals, have you considered revegging them? I noticed some weird shit on some of my outdoor plants (no autos) from harvesting in a few different ways. Btw, as a preventative thing (and potassium/carbon addition to foliar spray), check out either char/ash tea (potassium carbonate + other stuff) or potassium bicarbonate, if you don't know about it, especially near/in flowering, high humidity. Think of it as like, good baking soda. In that it's alkaline, kills fungus, but it's also a really good potassium and carbon source. And with something like ash/char tea or something, it's pretty much free, but even potassium bicarbonate should be cheap there, from what I know.

Nice little greenhouse you got there, best of luck! I'm on my first grow, outdoor, some in pots, some in soil (wish I had a greenhouse too, at times). Echoing the sentiments of anthbiafore regarding drainage, I've got plants in HEAVY clay soil and had like a week of constant rain, in the open, and my plants loved it (though my house almost flooded badly). Slightly crappy drainage for marijuana plants might even be ideal, because they tend to have shallow roots. I even feel like I should close the drainage holes in my pots, because of that sort of thing.
