First serious grow ever. In my teens I planted hemp seeds from my bird food and they became trees. Haha, but that was streight in open ground. I want to grow MJ to use it to treat my irritable bowel syndrome. It really helps to calm my digestion/cramps and it is the best 'medicine' for me at this moment. I gave the seedlings a very tough time in their first week. Although I put them inside the house at night, they didn't really flourish so to say.... Than I googled for the temperatures and read that cannabis grows above 15C. Haha, I just calculated that I would like to harvest in July, because I will go on vacation in August. I didn't realise that these temperatures (day 11C, night 3C) where too cold for cannabis to grow. So my mind is set on creating a small green house to make life a bit easier for them. If they will make it till I finish my green house.... By the way, the greenhouse will be put on my balcony and I use 6L Airpots.

O.k. So I realised that the weather here in the Netherlands is way to cold for seedlings oudoor to have a proper start. So last weekend I spent a Saturday night and Sunday morning creating a decent green house for my 3 seedlings. Made of packaging wood (for free) and some perspex. I found a car windshield protector for ice and used this as a isolation for the tub where the airpots stand. On that I placed a Romberg heat mat of 60x15cm, 17 Watt. On a warm day (about 17C) the soil temperature rose to 31C. That's a bit too high, so on warm days I will switch off the heat mat and turn in on again when night falls and temps go down. The seedlings seem to like it, because they are grown and the cotyledons are open. The small 'real' cannabis leafs are also coming out. Accept for the Hindu Kush plant.... :-( It only has 1 cotyledon and there are no other leaves showing. I decided to germinate onother HK seed and to kill the dud. The green house experiment seems to work for now. I guess that it will be able to house the seedlings and a part of the vegetative state of the plants and when they will be bigger the weather will be nice enough to keep them outside the green house. We will see... Oh, the humidity. I just checked it and today it is about 87%. Maybe it is better to vent a bit by putting something between the lid. Will keep an eye on that.

Plants seem to be very happy inside the greenhouse and are growing nice! Humidity can get quite high (I think) and is somewhere around 80%. On warmer days I put something between the lid so it gets less humid. On warm days I take off the lid. The second Hindu Kush seed didn't pop. It turned black and seems dead. Germinating another seed, really hope it will pop...

O.k. So the second Hindu Kush didn't pop, 3rd and last did. She got rid of the shell really slow and the opening op the first leaves went also super slow. These seeds must be old. The Northern Lights is doing super good and looking really happy. The Dinamed is also doing nice. She is a bit slower than the NL. A few days ago the tips of the first real leaves turned dead. Rest of the leafs seem to be o.k. Maybe I gave to little water, or maybe a little nutrient burn? The first half of the pot was filled with All Mix, second half with Light Mix. Think it will be o.k. Oh, watering regulary small amounts of water. Thinking of adding a little Biobizz Grow for NL and HK. NL is about 8cm CBD is 7 Hindu Kush is 1,5cm

Weather in Holland is getting better! A lot of sun reflects in nice grow. The NL is still the most vigorous grower, followed by the Dinamed. Hindu Kush takes forever as it seems. The burnt tips on the Dinamed seem te have been a one time occasion. The NL leafs seem to be a tad lighter than the Dinamed. Wonder if thats genetically determined or that it needs more nutes? Anyway, I upped the BB Grow by one ml so now I am on 2mL per Liter. Northern Lights Auto = 12cm Dinamed Auto = 9cm Hindu Kush Auto = 3cm

In week 6 I started LST on the NL and Dinamed. At the start of the grow I didn't have the intention to LST. But the plants are growing quite fast and the my mini-greenhouse is to low to keep them 'natural'. I was a bit worried, but doing LST is super easy. Just take your time and be gentle.... :-) The cones of the Airpot are nice to drill the holes in. Than +- 1cm Pipecleaner through and you're good to go bend what you want. The weather is quite cloudy so growth is a bit slow. Hope it gets better next week.

It is getting more and more crowded in the greenhouse. Hopefully these are the last days/weeks they need to be in there. Weather is getting better here in the Netherlands! A few days ago I decided to give the plants enough water so all of the substrate would be moist. I threw in 5L of water! That felt a bit uneasy. That could mean I under watered my plants for quite a while? Maybe I was a bit too concerned about overwatering the plants. Hmm, still got a lot to learn. I think I am getting the hang of LST. Every few days I carefully place the pipecleaners (or a new one) to a different position on the plant/pot so the canopy goes the way I want. No sign of showing sex yet. I was kind of expecting that this would happen this week. Maybe next week?! Norhern Ligths Auto = 18cm (after LST) Dinamed Auto = 15cm (after LST) Hindu Kush Auto = 12 cm (natureal, no LST)

So the mini-greenhouse was getting to crowded: time to get set them free! The weather is o.k. right now in the Netherlands. More cloudy than sunny, but it's not freezing and the night temperatures are also o.k. Last Sunday the pistils arrived. Well, I saw them for the first time. 😄 They showed in the Northern Lights and the Dinamed. I couldn't see them on the Hindu Kush, but the HK is 2 weeks younger than the NL and Dinamed. Oh, this week I removed some visitors which landed on my plants. I do not know is they are hostile or friendly visitors. I removed them just to be sure. They were very fragile, black flies. They sat underneith the leafs and also on the parts where new leafs grow. If someone knows a nice site with a visual representation to identify pests I would love to hear from you. Might be handy in the near future. Next time I will add Biobizz Bloom for watering my plants. 21 cm Norhtern Lights Automatic (LST) 19 cm Dinamed Automatie (LST) 20 cm Hindu Kush Automatic ('natural' grow)

Thanks to the tips I got (Lucimago 👍) the uninvited guests seem te be gone.... Haha, so far so good. What I did: *Not water the plants so the soil dries out. Thanks to the airpots that goes quite fast. *Removed gnats by hand which where sitting on the leafs *Made tea (2 tablespoons neem leafs) in 1 Liter water and sprayed that on the plants leafs and soil *few days later the Neem oil arrived and sprayed that on leafs and soil (1 tablespoon, 5 drops organic dish wash-soap on 1 L water) *Bought yellow sticky cards but not used them for the plants :-) because they seemed to be gone... I think the Neem oil doesn't smell nice. Hope I will not need that again. I also found the culprit of the gnats. I got my wife the Blumat Tropf watering system for her veggie-garden as a birthday present. I adjusted the drippers a bit too much open, so the soil got way to moist. There where a LOT of them at that moment. Then the gnats found their way to my plants on the balcony. I thought the plants didn't grow that much, maybe buzzy with making flowers. But in height they grew about 5cm! Didn't notice that. I think they still look quite healthy. The Hindu Kush is a bit greener than it was. Cheers! This week the weather in the Netherlands is very nice. Lots of sun which results in super fast growth & also bloom. All 3 plants grew this week 9 cm in height! The Dinamed is flowering really fast last few days. The fungus gnats seem to be still at bay. Because the pots are just 6L, I thought I would up the nutes to 3mL/L. Hope that's a good choice. Will keep an eye on the leafs. I noticed that the older (3 finger) leafs are getting yellow. I read that that's normal. I don't know if I should remove them. Any suggestions or thoughts? Clouds, rain, wind, crappy weather this week in the Netherlands. The yellowing of the leafs on all 3 plants seems to go slower or is at a stop (🙏). I am still not sure what is happening or what went wrong. I stopped giving nutrients due to the possible Nitrogen problem. Any comments about this situation are more than welcome! 😊 Haha, I thinks it's also quite a challenge to give the appropriate amount of water. When the sun starts to shine the water is gone in no-time. I think this is because of the small pots (6L) I choose. Oh, almost forgot. The smell of the Dinamed is AWESOME! Wow, didn't know this scent was possible on cannabis plants. Its fruity, papaya'ish and also smells like how the black papaya seeds taste.... 😋 Plant heights: NL Auto = 40cm (LST) Dinamed Auto = 36 cm (LST) Hindu Kush Auto = 40 cm (no LST)

Weather is picking up in the Netherlands. Haha, just for a few days I believe.... But all 3 plants seem to be a bit more o.k. I believe the buds are getting thicker and the yellowing, ah well, we'll see. Started with just 1mL/L Bloom as I didn't give them nutes for a week due to the N problem. Haha, I allready mentioned it in a comment, but I didn't get why the BB Bloom would contain a N ratio of 20. Turns out that the bottle says 2.0! My eyes aren't what they used to be.... 😅. I hope I won't be overfeeding them by giving nutes again. But on the other side, the pot's are just 6L. Oh, plant heights: Dinamed Auto = 36cm (LST) Northern Lights Auto = 43cm (LST) Hindu Kush Auto = 41cm ('natural')

Weather in the Netherlands is super nice. At least, for the plants. Every day sunshine and temperature around 25 degrees. Explosive growth of the buds on the Hindu Kush and NL. Quite amazing. The trichomes of the Dinamed seem to be transparant and milky. I wonder how long it will take before I can harvest her. Quite exited. Plant smell is getting stronger. At night I have to put the plants further away from the balcony door. If not the bedroom is filled with a nice 'weedy' perfume... Again, first grow, so no experience. I will update when dried, cured and vaped 😊 ------------------- update 29-07-2019 O.k. As promised a taste-effect update. When vaped I feel muscle tension release, body relaxes. Some times I get a very, very mild body high. The taste is like fruity with a definate orangy flavour. Once I tried 1 puff of Dinamed and one puff of Hindu Kush. I was floored for more than 4 hours. I don't know if it was because I got a bit less sleep that night before but that's hard to imagine it could have that effect. It doesn't make you high or stoned, but the feeling is relaxed, but a bit sedated. That might be the word. It works for my IBS quite well. I do not vape every day, so my experience is still a bit limited. If there is someone with a more specific question, feel free to ask. Hope I can answer it in the near future.

Fasted grower of the 3 strains this grow. Quite amazed by the speed and size. Also because they had quite a tough start. I germinated the seed in the end of March here in the Netherlands. At that time there wasn't a lot of sun and temperatures were quite low. That's why I put the strains in the greenhouse. ------------------- Update 29-07-2019 Havested and dried the popcorn-buds. They gave 3,6 gram. Really love this strain! The effect is quite body orientated. It gives a tranquil body high with a mild head high. Makes me laugh in a very moderate way. Thoughts are not influenced in terms of rushness (haha, is that a word?!). All very tranquil. The taste has developed through the weeks. First it tasted quite the same as the organic NL they sell here in a coffeeshop. Which was a bit like bubble gum/cloves. But now there is a very nice piney taste occurring! I love pine. this curing is quite an interesting fase of cannabis. All in all, great strain!

Also a first strain I grew along with the Dinamed CBD Auto and Norhtern Lights Auto (White Label). She had a very slow start, I think because it was an old seed. The other 2 didn't germinate. I would say that after week 8 she really picked up speed and grew bigger than I have expected. The buds are the thickest of the 3 strains. Smell is Superb, love it. It's lemony piney. Very curious how she will taste and her effect. ------------------------ update 29-07-2019 O.k. Hindu Kush. Still not sure what to think about it. I personally think this strain is the most potent of the 3. I would descibe the effect as narcotic. It puts me in a kind of bubble with a couch lock. I still haven't got a lot of experience with the use of this strain, especially because I tried the CBD and NL several times. I think it has more of a couch lock than a body high. Haha, makes you very non-productive. Taste is definately lemony and has a sharpness to it.

Last plant of this grow. Felt happy and also a bit sad.... Had a lot of fun taking care of these girsl. The Hindu Kush surprised me the most. She had a very slow start and picked up speed at around week 8. Her buds are WAY thicker than the NL and Dinamed CBD. Her smell is also the strongest. Not really during bloom, but especially while cutting and trimming. Oh, she had a (or some?!) male flower. Haha, I don't know if that's because I harvested too late. I don't think so. But any way, I still admire the beauty of nature. I mean, how cool that a plant is able to fertilize herself?! That's AWESOME! Magic just to provide offspring to continue life. I will do an update when buds are dried, cured and vaped.... Well, not all of them off-course 😄 Thanks for all the comments and support! ------------------------ update 29-07-2019 O.k. Hindu Kush. Hey man! Good to see they started flowering. As for the bugs, from the picture it looks to me like it could be a fungus gnat. See if it looks like this: https://arnoldzwicky.org/2017/08/13/fungus-gnats/ In case you have gnats, they usually appear when you water your plants too often or the soil stays wet for too long. It is also common to have fungus gnat eggs in organic soil mixes. In small numbers they are inoffensive but if you don't treat them they can really fuck up your plants. They lay eggs in the soil and the little larvae stay in the top 3-4 cm layer of your pots and feed on your plant's roots among other things. This can lead to root rot, and can end up really slowing down even killing your plants. They are easy to treat though - just stop watering so the top layer gets dry, that will kill a big number of larvae. Also yellow sticky traps are very useful for controlling the population of adults. Other than that, you can spray the top layer of the soil with a neem solution. The combination of these techniques should keep them at bay. I just found a few in my grow last week, used these techniques and saw a big improvement. Now I hope you really do have fungus gnats otherwise this long post was for nothing 😂

StealthyDutchGuycommented6 years ago
@@Lucimago,Hey Lucimago, hahaha, 'Now I hope you really have fungus gnats.....'. Thank you so much for taking the time to teach me how to get rid of these buggers. I do think these are fungus gnats, so I will get my hands on those yellow sticky cards and use neem. I think they might have came last week. I gave my plants quite an amount of water and after that the weather was cloudy/wet for the whole week. So the soil couldn't dry so fast. Maybe next time when I need to. water my plants, I'll just soak them in water so the top layers stays dry.... Thanks again and take care!

Hey dude quick question. But maybe a long answer. How did you go about drying the buds? Would you change anything
StealthyDutchGuy
StealthyDutchGuycommented6 years ago
@Ganjagardenner,Hey, cool question. Will try to answer it as clear as possible. Here we go: *Check what the weather is like in the upcoming week. In my case dry and warm; choose to leave sugar leafs on the buds. No wet trimming/manicuring for slow dry. Also leave stems on. *In early mornig cut branches, remove fan leaves bij hand along with the smaller fan leaves. *Hang buds upside down. I used one of those foldable shopping crates where I spung rope. *my location to dry was a shed with the outside door open for ventilation *After 4 or 5 days I put the buds in mason jar along with mini hygrometer from amazon *After a while, check RH. When >65%, take buds out and hang to dry longer. How long is up to your intuition... :-) =, <65%, leave in jar with lid open Close lid when around 60% and keep checking RH regulary. My aim was 62%. Whem more than 62% open jar again. My whole drying took like 7-8 days. *My opinion on Boveda packs. They are good at raising the RH when too dry. They will NOT bring the RH down in any way. :-( Must admit. Sounded too good to be true. This is my experience and presumed best way to dry 'unprofessionally' after a few harvests. Next time I might dry in a box/closet with a small carb filter. The smell was quite 'noticeble' in our livingroom.... :-) Pfwew. Long answer. Hope this helps! Let me know how it worked out for you. Serious, very curous what your experience is/going to be. I don't have a lot of people to discuss these things!

Stickyfarmercommentedweek 126 years ago
The yellowing of lower leaves is fairly normal when a cannabis plant reaches the end of its lifecycle. Your plants still have some time to bloom. so i think the reason this happened a bit early on in bloom is because of the slower growth early on and extended time in veg. Personally i always remove these dying fully yellow leaves as the plant uses its energy to keep those leaves alive and it's better to put that energy on healthy parts of the plant. But that's more of a personal choice.
StealthyDutchGuy
StealthyDutchGuycommented6 years ago
@Stickyfarmer,Heej, thank you so much for your input. I am way less worried about them now.... 👍. I also think that @swampmonster had a really good hunch about the N problem. Even while not seeing the plants in real life, just from a picture. Respect. It's not a big thing but suspect he is totally right. There was some 'clawing' happening but I just couldn't place it because of being a Newbie. Haha, last week I sent an email to BioBizz with the question why the amount of N is so high in their Bloom bottles. It says 20-7-4. I understood that blooming plants need LESS N while blooming. They didn't answer unfortunately. Later I found out the bottle says 2.0 instead of 20. Hahaha, my eyes aren't what they used to be.... But I don't understand why they put a .0 behind the 2. Again, thanks for the input! 👍😊

Nice progress. I think you can give the plants a little bit of extra nutes looking a bit pale in first pic (Hindu Kush) think it would love that. I also reside in The Netherlands and weather is not so optimal for outdoor growing right now. Can't wait for summer to start so these plants can start to bloom to their full potential.

Don't think you had a Nitrogen problem. It's quite normal the lower leaves to turn yellow througout the flowering cycle. Read up on this: https://www.growweedeasy.com/nitrogen-deficiency-cannabis Giving to much nitrogen will turn the leaves dark green. But maybe the pH of the soil/water was not optimal and restricted Nitrogen uptake. But i think it's due to flowering. I see the same thing happening at one of my plants now.

@Zonnetje,O.k. Interesting. Thanks for your comment. Both the Dinamed and my NL had some leafs pointing streight down. Don't know for sure if it's 'clawing' as they call it. I think I will cut down on the BioBizz Grow next round. Good luck with your plants, they seem to be really happy 👍😀

Hey man enjoy your harvest! Good to hear your Dinamed smells great. I wonder why mine doesn't smell or taste like anything😂

@@Lucimago,Thank you! I will hopefully enjoy my harvest. Haha, right now the harvest smells like fresh cut grass. Hopefully the smell returns after proper drying and curing. Quite exited because it's my first attempt. Fingers crossed! 🙏 Will update when everything is in jars and test-vaped ... 😁

Hey man, great to see things are picking up for your plants! I was going to answer your question but I see you got taken care of ;)

@@Lucimago,Yes, I hope things will smooth out. I think I will not give them any nutes for a while. Accept the Hindu Kush maybe. If it is Nitrogen toxification, I could have noticed it before. I was like: that's strange, some pointy leafs bend down, like a hook.... But still not really obvious I'd say. Time will till I guess... :-)
