Grow #2 is officially started! This grow will be jokingly referred to as the "Sellout Shill Grow" as all five of the girls were free seeds from the /r/Autoflowers Barney's Farm Grow Off contest and Fastbuds, who were kind enough to send me a couple of their newer auto seeds.
I'm looking forward to how they turn out!
Day 8 - I think I have this soil thing down pretty good now. All four soil girls managed to pop up and thrive. They seem to be a little bit bigger than the girls from the first grow on the same day, most likely due to better lighting and less fear about watering.
Day 15 - Watered with 1/4 gallon of 6.2ph. Just letting the soil work for her until day 24 or so, when I'll give them a couple feeds of Maxigrow, moving over to Maxibloom over three or four feeds, going to full Maxibloom for the rest of the grow, and adding Mammoth P for the final few weeks.
Day 22 - So this girl is the monster freak of the current grow. I mean come on. She's double the size of the other girls, under the same conditions. She's also got some crappy phosphorous deficiency hitting her two bottom big fan leaves. Moving her over to Maxibloom early on her next feed to compensate.
Day 29 - She's the biggest girl in the grow, by far. I'm starting to have high hopes for yields. Training continues mutiple times a day, as her tops are stretching an inch or more every 24 hours.
Day 33 - Missed updating yesterday due to Dungeons and Dragons nerdery. This girl is the biggest plant I've grown officially, and she's not even starting to show tops really. She's a friggin' monster. But I'd already said that many times. GLUE GELATO GODZILLA.
Day 35 - So she's a little over two feet wide and no signs of pistils! I have no idea what she's going to do, but she's going to do a whole lot of it!
Day 36 - So I'm marking this week as "Flowering" because she has maybe one or two tops just barely showing pistils, and by the end of the week I expect there will be a whole lot more. I'm going to go through and do a fairly radical defoliation over the course of this week because she's starting to choke on her own leaves. She's so damned LARGE that I could grow two of these girls in this 24x48 grow space and still fill most of it up. If she smokes as well as she grows this is a Mighty Strain Indeed. (Okay that was a little pretentious but you get what I mean.)
Day 42 - THE KRAKEN STIRS. So she's got pistils, but she's still making it very clear that she's not quite done with vegging, yet. She seems to give zero effs. The Grapefruit Auto growing diagonally from her is going to be ready to harvest by the time she has pompoms it seems like. Okay maybe not but boy, she's serious about her work.
Day 43 - She's getting some pale leaves in her new growth indicating maybe a little too much phosphorous? Perhaps I started using Maxibloom a little early. Next feed will be Maxigro instead, just to see if that helps.
Day 46 - So this is becoming a problem. Her nutes are under control, she's growing like a freak, and she's still not quite flowering. And she's getting close to three feet wide. I will be running a second net over the grow to spread her out further, but she's sort of too big. Worries of photoperiod phenos are becoming more pronounced. If she hasn't gotten pompoms in, say, five days, I'm going to have to cut the whole net apart and move her to another space. Perhaps with her own light. We'll see.
Day 49 - Welp. It's day 49 and she isn't flowering. I fear the worst. On the other hand, she's huge. I had to perform surgery to dismantle the SCROG net so I could get her out of the main grow, and because she is so large, she still *needed* a net for herself, so I had to dismantle everything, pull her out, move her over to a tent I thankfully still had, and net her up again. I'm still in a bit of limbo at this point, because she's not flowering, but at the same time, she is lit up with the most appropriate light to keep a photoperiod plant growing without flowering her out: The 135w Blurple.
Hopefully she doesn't decide to start flowering at this point, because the blurple won't get the job done well on a girl this big. It will, however, keep her stable as a photoperiod until I can save up enough to get another giant ass light to finish her off properly. So let's hope that my assumption that she isn't going to autoflower is correct. *Crossing Fingers*
As a positive side effect, the DWC girl (Ghost Toof) and the FastBuds LSD25 Auto now get to sit under the much nicer ChilLed 100w Puck. So there's that.
Day 50 - Well I think I made the right decision. It's day 50, and she's not flowering, so we seem to have a photoperiod pheno girl on our hands. Luckily I had a tent to put her in, and a light to keep her vegging until I can save up to get a light big enough to flower her. It's a rough situation, because she's a big girl and I've never grown a photoperiod plant before. It would be stupid to get rid of her, but a couple hundred dollars for another light, combined with having to take the entire grow apart is a sharp pain in the ass.
Day 53 - Ordered a new light for her today, so maybe within a week I'll put her under the new light and switch her to 12/12. She's looking fine and chugging along, eating a gallon of food/water a day.
Day 56 - Still waiting on shipment notification for her new light. Keeping her in a holding pattern but running her at 18/6 to save electricity.
Day 57 - Entering week nine, we're still in a holding pattern while I wait for a proper light to flower this girl with. The inconvenience of this unanticipated photoperiod is becoming a little stressful, but I'm looking forward to see the results.
Day 63 - As you can see in today's pic, she's got her new light! 320w Shenzen Meiju Quantum Board. 800 leds will get her to the finish line. Put it up last night and she went from holding pattern to three inches of growth on every one of her tops. Also bottomed out her water so I had to double dose her this morning. I'll let her go like this for another day or so and slap her over to 12/12 to get this debacle over with. :-D I expect that she will yield... well.
Day 64 - As we enter week ten, she's on day two of her 12/12 cycle. She's in for a long stretch of this I guess. Been having to do a crash course on photoperiod growing to catch up with this unanticipated change. On the plus side, sixty-two days of veg for a plant is pretty good and she's pretty much filling up a 32x48 inch tent. I expect great things from her.
Day 70 - Finally! She's showing pistils and will soon be showing pompoms. Whew.
Day 71 - Very please that she's finally starting to flower. Very early still. Took almost exactly a week of 12/12 for it to really start to look like the process had begum. The last two days, she's wanted two gallons to drink. I am happy to give them to her. With the two gallons she has maybe half a gallon of runoff, which she is sucking right back up in a few hours. She's a ridiculously hungry girl at this point. #feeder #bbw #hashtag #etc
Day 77 - Last day of week eleven! She's still sucking down two gallons a day and she's dry by the same time 24 hours later. Pompoms are happening and she looks very healthy. Been chopping leaves out of her lower mass daily.
Day 78 - Day 15 of flower cycle. Two gallons of feed per day. As of today I'm at .5 tsp of Maxigrow and .25 tsp of Maxibloom per gallon. She seems to be accepting the Maxibloom now without burn so yay! I may need to move her light up one more time. I only have about four inches of headroom at this point so beyond that she's just plain gonna have some light burn if it comes down to it.
Day 85 - Sorry for missing yesterday. Had a busy day and forgot to take pics, then by the time I could get to it, it was lights out for this girl, so I just plain skipped rather than pull her flop open with lights on in the room. Defoliated a bit around her tops. Will work on that some more this week, to make sure she gets real bulk.
Day 91/27f - End of week 13! She is 27 days into flower, keeping in mind that she required photoperiod treatment. The entire 48x32 inch spacer is filled with her mass at this point. Colas are between 14 and 17 inches tall. Selective defoliation is ongoing daily. Two gallons of feed per day. One gallon every twelve hours or she starts to droop. The word "Monster" comes to mind.
Day 93/29 - Hello week thirteen! Sorry for the missed update yesterday. Was harvesting and super busy. Ran out of vertical space for lighting and her tops are getting s tiny bit dry. She has massive and numerous colas. Dimming her light is a stressful prospect but it may have to happen to avoid damage to her flowers.
Day 98 - F34 - Wrapping up week 14! Shes looking great still, apart from minor unavoidable bleaching directly under the light.
Day 99 - F35 - She's basically out of control at this point. Almost three gallons of food a day, and colas forever! She's been a major pain in the butt what with the not flowering thing, but in return, she's coming up all aces for size and probably yield.
Day 105 - End of the week! She's going long folks!
Day 106, Flowering 42 - She's had some leaf tip burn that I was worried was overfeeding. Turns out to have been the opposite. Giving her a 3/4 teaspoon of Maxibloom and a quarter of Koolbloom seems to be straightening her out. It was Potassium.
She hasn't stopped drinking two gallons a day, but it's closer to every 30 hours now. I guess there's only so long she could have guzzled it down like that.
Day 112, Flowering 47 - End of the week. She's still just plugging away! She's starting to eat less now, at two gallons every 36 hours. colas are thickening up.
Day 113, 48 Flowering - She's still got a way to go, but her leaves are starting to turn. Maybe a week and a half? Maybe two. She's starting to slow down a bit on the drinking. We're back to around a gallon a day. and the massive drinking push of the last couple weeks. Her colas are getting a little big saggy now, too. I don't know if I'm going to need to try and pull them up or not. We'll see.
Day 119, 54 Flowering - It's the end of week 17! She's coming to the end soon! Gonna give her another week maybe, while keeping a close eye on her trichomes. Some of her colas are sagging terribly, so I'm hooking them with plant ties and pulling them back into the upright position.
Day 120, Flowering Day 55 - As we near the close of her grow, her colas are getting heavy enough that they need to be held up with plant ties. I've made sort of a daisy chain of S shaped bits, hooked around the colas and attacked to the shelving unit on the side of the tent to keep them upright.
Day 126 - So... eighteen weeks. EIGHTEEN WEEKS muh lads and ladies. This week may be the week of truth for this girl. We'll see.
Day 127 - Holy crap week what now? NINETEEN. This will most likely be her final week. She's thick, and looks like a hairy corn field from the side. Acceptable. :-D Giving her more days because Chopping her smaller sister, the Ghost Toof, took a lot out of me.
Day 133 - She's getting the chop tomorrow! About 20% amber, which is more than I usually like, but it's been a busy week with the Ghost Toof Harvest and she can handle it. :-D I have no idea what sort of yield to expect, apart from "Large" :-D
Day 134 - Flowering day 69 - She's partially down! Chopped all of her large, swole as all get out colas! They are as wide as your wrist and over a foot long each. As per pic, you can see that there are MANY. But there's SO much more on the plant yet. I took all the top stuff, and left everything down below. There's at least another third to half of her waiting to mature. I'll give her all the time she needs because I want to absolutely maximize her yield. No reason not to.
The pics speak for themselves. She was a troublesome girl to grow, but she has rewarded me well.
Final weights are speculative until I delete this very string of text.
Final weight of the first harvest - 478.42 grams, or 17.086 ounces! - Tomorrow I harvest other half of her! 17 ounces from one plant is rediculous on its own, but there's at LEAST another six or seven ounces on her, minimum. More to come!
The second harvest has been cut! New pics added. Weights will be updated when she's dry!
Updated 8/29/2019 - Second harvest is in! Another 5.46 ounces! The plant isn't done yet, either. One more harvest in a few days.
Update - 9/3/2019 - Final harvest has been chopped! Might be around the same weight as harvest two. If so, we're looking at maybe 27 ounces total? Final update and pics when it's dry!
Final update! - 9/7/2019 - Another 77.45 grams collected for a total yield from this girl of 25.29 ounces!
She's been a REALLY long grow, but she paid off. The day I put her seed into a bluray case to germinate was April 2, 2019. Today is September 7, 2019. A ridiculous amount of time for what was supposed to be a seventy-ish day autoflower. But she delivered the friggin' goods in the end! Now I can clean the grow room and get ready for the next parade of plant love! Special thanks to everyone who has followed this grow through the troubles and amazing outcome!
