briggsy1984 - (Filling retroactively) I soaked seeds overnight in a glass of water, then germinated in a Ziploc with wet paper towel. QCS had sent me 15 seeds total in the packet of 10, I can only assume due to the age and condition of the seeds. 11 out of 15 actually opened and showed a tap root, and a couple seeds were cracked and clearly not going to germinate, while a couple others were harvested too early and green. Out of the 11 that germinated, only 3 have made it far enough to be worth flowering, and a neighbour adopted 3 others. ---- The backstory of Freakshow can be found across the internet. It was created by Jordan, aka Shapeshifter, a very well respected breeder. The strain was originally a cross of pineapple express and Holy Chiquita that showed some interesting dormant traits in the leaf structure, traits on the X chromosome that are incredibly rare and recessive. Pineapple Express was a cross of BC Big Bud x Skunk #1, and Holy Chiquita was a cross of Big Sur Holy Weed x Banana Kush. Whether those strains today are the same as back then, who rightly knows since dispensaries and small breeders may borrow the name or mix other genes in and claim it's the same strain. briggsy1984 One of the seedlings has a weird mutation, sprouting 4 seed leaves total from a single stem, but two of the leaves are much smaller. It's not a twin, and it's not some kind of quadrifoliate either, I think it's just another symptom of old seeds or some weird XX chromosomal overlapping. While there's no obvious signs of major deficiencies, the leaves being curled like right from the start (coincidentally forming a Fleur-de-lis in a couple cases) seems like some kind of issue.

briggsy1984 Repotted them into fabric pots with nutrient rich homemade soil, and began feeding 2ml/Gal of pH Perfect Grow-Micro-Bloom as part of a complete system, as well as mycorrhizal fungi before and after repotting so the plants wouldn't notice as much. Of the 4 survivors, 3 appear to be female and one of them male, not because they're showing yet, but because 3 of them are growing symmetrical in nature, are shorter and taking their time, while one of them is growing much more vigorously in width and height, and ditching symmetry for pure growth speed like it's a race. We'll see. Based on past reviews on QCS website for Incognito, these plants have fooled others in the same way, female behaving like male and vice versa.

briggsy1984 The one I suspect is a male continues to grow faster and more vigorously, rooting down and out like it's in a race. One of the suspected females seems to have an iron deficiency problem, or possibly some kind of genetic problem. It's likely due to the seeds being old, but if there is chromosomal damage of some kind it could also explain the difficulty to produce chlorophyll fast enough. It's not Chlorosis and/or a Nitrogen deficiency either, and it's not albinism. If you only go by the photo you'd probably think magnesium deficiency, but my phone camera (even with AI turned off) adds color where there is none, and the leaflets are nearly white on the top with a faint green, not the light yellow green with darker veins that the photo shows 😒. But I digress, of the 4 survivors so far, it's probably not going to make it. I've fed it a bit of blackstrap molasses and also added some to a foliar spray so the leaves can absorb some iron directly and fix the problem - if it's actually iron deficiency and not something else entirely.

briggsy1984 - And then there were 3. Week 4 saw some nice growth, but the stunted one with chlorophyll issues had to be transplanted into the compost. While I was depotting it, I noticed that the tap root went very deep and didn't form a root ball until 6 inches, which may explain why it struggled. All that distance for a tiny root to push against gravity was too much for it. So in the end it wasn't really defective or sick, it was just too ambitious for its own good. The 3 survivors are doing really well, although I've figured out that the Freakshow leaves seem to require a higher level of humidity than a normal cannabis strain, seeming a little on the dry side despite 65% humidity and unlimited water and nutrients being wicked up into their roots all day and all night. I was concerned I might be nearly drowning them, but turns out they're really thirsty, and smelly for their size. Not a bad smell, just surprisingly strong for plants that aren't even pre-flowering yet.
