A truly heart breaking day for me, bud rot on the main cola. The other day i switched the lights to 12/12 because my photo plants were getting too large. And during the night i turned off the aircon and just used a fan, assuming the temps would be okay at night. And then i got this. So i cut the main cola off and had to sadly get rid of it. I still have the rest of the plant. Should i start flushing now and just harvest her? I clipped off the main cola, how will this affect my plant? I really need some help :(
@DabCrab, Thanks! Pls follow me on here. Im starting journals on Headband OG, THC bomb, and 3 caramelicious plants this week. They are all growing alongside my BBA.
@MarijuanaEngineer, wish you the best, i think i lost about half on my og kush auto so we have to just move on and hope it never happens again i guess π’
Hi , can I ask a few questions? Firstly do you have any fans in the grow room ? Secondly how often are you watering ? I found using leds took a little longer especially with larger plants , how close is the light ?
@MarijuanaEngineer,I don't think she is ready to flush yet , I used to have the same issues with yellowing in soil , people told me it was calmag that I needed and all sorts of explanations , although I never get it in DWC
@BigDaddyK, Hey man, could u take a look at my big bud auto and tell me what u think. Just updated her, week 8. And the leaves are yellowing a bit, and im giving alot of nutes. When do u think i should start flushing her? And when do you think my potential harvest will be? I feel like the buds should be much bigger, since it is a big bud auto.
Not a bad yield considering its a first time grow and the bud rot that you caught early enough. Potency depends on ripeness, you may have gone a bit longer than I would have while bringing in more of the indica tendencies at the same time. You probably have another seed...save it for that time in between harvests of your regular grows. If you can, you don't have to grow it in the tent, anywhere you can keep light on it for 18 hours or so and it will be fine. Ours grew its entire life in my office with one household bright white CFL light blub :)
@OleTimer, Yeah this is forsure an indica after trying it, very good smoke though. As far as taste I could of flushed her another week to bring out better flavors. Just got sick of her holding up my grow :)
Take a good picture of the entire plant just before you cut her. That way folks can see that a case of bud rot is not totally devastating.
My grow had significantly more trichomes covering the surface of the sugar leaves. Once she is dried let us know how she tastes :)
@OleTimer, In my harvest report i will have all kinds of pictures and info to cap off this grow. I am thinking after two more flushes its will be time to bring her down.
Oh and hairs are starting to turn amber so looking at flush time. No more nutrients. You can give her something like a teaspoon of Kayro syrup in a gallon of water if you like. It does affect taste, makes it a bit sweeter, but helps fatten the buds.
@OleTimer, Ill start the flush now. How long do i flush before i harvest? what other types of sugar can i mix in water for the plant? Idk if that one is available where i live. Thanks for the info!
"If you are looking for the highest amount of THC in your fruit, then the time to harvest is right at the start of the ripening cycle. If you are looking for that combined high with a couchlock effect, then it's best to wait until you have between 15-20 percent amber crystals, because the THC starts to mutate during ripening into another cannabinoid called CBN. These CBNs can increase the sleepy effect of cannabis." From a High Times article.
@OleTimer,As of this morning im getting some orange hairs. Thank you for the advice. Ill update her in a few days when its the 9th week mark. I did some pruning yesterday of the fan leaves. I know i am not supposed to, but the lower buds are under-developed.
....And big bud she is becoming!!! By looks of it she is aiming to get bigger! She is beautiful great job.
Keep calm smoke the bomb and grow on!π±π
Keep her growing! Cutting off the main cola to save the rest of the plant is fine. She will shock a little bit, but don't worry will be about 3 days and she should come right back. Expect one of the lower ones to get a small growth spurt to make up for the loss of dominance of the main.
@MarijuanaEngineer,
Yes, not as much as a full flower, and the taste will be a bit "chemmy". Without a close look at the bud, I can't tell you how much you can expect. Things to think about...
What percent of the hairs were amber colored?
Under a magnifier, were the trichomes milky white or clear, what percent had changed over?
Did you notice any resin pockets?
Think of it as a baby taste of what will come.
Over time with each grow you do you will learn these things and what is best for you. Experienced growers can only guide you so much. Everyone of us has different tastes and different base knowledge. We all live in very different parts of the world (my average humidity is only 6% here). I have to grow for 3 different types of users so my grows are usually crazy. I have never gone for yield, only quality. I have to be exact in one case as it is a medicinal product for a seizure patient, so the balance of THC/CBD/Terpenes etc. must be consistent.
@MarijuanaEngineer,
Besides...Big Bud is one of the tastiest strains out there and has good pain reduction elements. An excellent combination for an Automatic. You are going to love the smoke. An it will always hold a special place as it is your first grow :)
Almost there :) I stopped feeding at this point and let her suck all the old growth leaves dry of nutrients. Straight distilled water for the last 2 weeks. Only cause I hate to flush and really hate the slight flavor difference. Plus my cure time is really short :)
@MarijuanaEngineer, How many days ago was the last nutrient added (not counting any sugar)? If it was 2 weeks or more then very short cure after it is dried. When you open the container if it still smells kind of ammonia like, then still needs more cure. No ammonia smell, then probably good to test a bowl :)
@MarijuanaEngineer, hmm bro to be more secure bout the answer youll have to ask few ppl in the group. But i see her doing all healthy and fine. Anyways install kik messenger and find me with my username whitewidow1992. Text me and i'll add you in π
@WhiteWidow, Yeah invite me, i got some questions about this auto. Her leaves turned a bit yellow, no burnt tips. So I am guessing I waited to long to nute her?
@BigDaddyK, Yo man, could u take a look at my updated pics on this auto and tell me why u think she is droopy? I thought i may have given too much nutes.
@MarijuanaEngineer,The automatic blooms by age, between weeks 4 and 6 will see the first blooms, depending on each strain. My NL has blooms since day 35.
@ClubRiot, I have a 600 watt full spectrum LED light and i want to go full spectrum on her for the best results. So i went for it the past few days and my headband OG leafs started curling inwards. So I am back to blue spectrum now until my other plants mature a bit. I wanted variety but i am slowly realizing plants are different and require different amounts of light. Since you are an auto grower.. When do you think mine will start flowering?
Karo syrup is in the baking section...its corn syrup, I use the one with real vanilla. Comes in a clear bottle with a red label. Molasses is also used, but I dislike the taste it gives.
Did you get a magnifier so you can see the trichomes?
Flush is usually 2 weeks, of course it all depends on what you used and how much. All you are doing is ensuring all the nutrients are used up so that taste is not in your buds.
@MarijuanaEngineer, 1 teaspoon per 3 liters. You don't need much. The stuff is thick so use a small amount of warm water to mix it in then add colder water.
The plant will tell you when to harvest...trichomes turn milky. Use a nice magnifier and watch the progress. I have a 60x jewelers loupe that I use. If you do not have something to magnify with then a good rule of thumb is the "hairs" turning amber...I usually harvest when 60% of the hairs are amber.
Others have a different harvest schedule.

@OleTimer, thanks man. They say to look for those indications but i see some diaries on here where they ran the auto tell the leaves turned yellow. Like tell the 13th week. And it looked to me like in those extra few weeks the buds became much larger. I really want a decent yield from this plant. My goal is 100 grams dry weight. I am concerned because at week 8 i feel like the buds should be bigger.
