For the **DognaBiscup**, I selected the **Permanent Marker** from Zamnesia, a 70/30 indica-dominant hybrid (Biscotti x Sherb Bx x Jealousy), known for its diesel and sweet aromas as well as its robust growth in vegetation. This strain develops compact plants with dense foliage (potential yield: 450-550 g/m²).
The setup uses an **ebb and flow** system with **expanded clay pellets**, ideal for optimal root oxygenation and quick drainage. Flood cycles: 10 min every 30 min (adjusted according to roots), 90 L reservoir. Lighting: **full-spectrum LED** (1000W, 18/6).

This second week of vegetation has gone smoothly under precise control thanks to the Trollmaster system, focusing on the stability of environmental and nutritional parameters. The Permanent Marker plants, in a vigorous growth phase, responded well to manual adjustments. I performed LST (Low Stress Training) to encourage a bushy structure and better light penetration, a light defoliation to remove lower leaves obstructing airflow, and a complete water change in the reservoirs to refresh the nutrient solution and prevent any salt buildup. These interventions boosted the plants' vitality, with a noticeable increase in leaf mass and healthy roots in the hydroponic substrate.
On the observation side:
- **Overall Growth**: The plants have stretched moderately, with internodes of 2-3 cm. The leaf color remains healthy (dark green), with no signs of deficiencies or overheating. The LST has nicely flattened the canopy, promoting even light exposure.
- **Environment**: Temperature and humidity have been maintained within optimal ranges for vegetation, with stable averages around 23°C and 68% RH. The VPD (0.88 kPa) indicates a good transpiration/growth balance.
- **Nutrient Solution**: Stable pH around 6.2, EC at 2.14 mS/cm – slightly above the initial target, but with no visible stress. The solution temperature (17°C) is ideal for root oxygenation.
- **Lighting**: PPFD at 676, which is comfortable for veg, but I sense potential for a gradual increase.
- **Issues Encountered**: Slight EC fluctuation early in the week due to evaporation; corrected by the water change. No pathogens detected.
Overall, a solid week with robust plants ready for acceleration. Overall Goal: Maximize bushy structure for future flowering, aiming for monsters... but forced adaptation to early switch! Hey DogDoctor team and Dognabis Cup community! Here’s the recap of my week 3 in veg for my Zamnesia Permanent Marker. This strain is a beast: it grows fast, dense, and resinous, but as you’ll see, I already have to anticipate a switch to 12/12 earlier than expected due to my other plants being ahead (which are stressing for extra time in veg). No XXL monsters this time, but we’re optimizing what we can with LST/FIM and fine hydro management. Aptus nutrition is killing it, and finally, the pH has stabilized after chaotic beginnings – no more daily adjustments, phew!
Plant Status
The baby Permanent Markers are exploding: sturdy stems, broad dark green leaves, with good branching thanks to the LST and FIM applied this week. I’ve bent and tied down the tops for an even canopy (about 4-5 main nodes per plant), and topped the most vigorous ones to boost the sides. Vertical growth controlled at ~15-20 cm average height, but the root density is top-notch in the clay pellets – no signs of oxygen stress. Unfortunately, the other plants in the run (not in the contest) are already stretching and asking for 12/12; I’ll have to stress them (slightly reduce nutrients or water) to squeeze out an extra 3-5 days of veg here. Goal: not to exceed 4 weeks total in veg to synchronize everything. Not ideal for colossi, but quality takes precedence for the Cup!
Environment and Controls
Everything is locked in via Trolmaster: stable temperature around 24°C (target), humidity at 70% (perfect for veg), CO2 at 900 PPM (manual maintenance to boost photosynthesis). Optimal VPD at ~0.9 kPa, which aligns perfectly with Aptus recommendations to avoid excessive transpiration. Light increased by 10 PPFD as planned (now at ~679 average PPFD in the flower zone), and the graphs show nice stability – no chaotic spikes.
For hydro: reduced tides to 2 min (now ~15-20 min per cycle) and 2 cycles less per day (from 8 to 6), to harden the roots without drowning. Solution at EC 2.2 (up by 0.2 this week to match veg hunger), pH finally stable at 6.07 (after daily adjustments the first 2 weeks – thanks Aptus buffers!). Solution EC at 2.16 mS/cm, water temp at 17.9°C (cooler is top-notch). Average moisture at 90% – well-drained, zero anaerobic.

Challenges and Adjustments

Sadhus JDC Weekly - Week 6 (3rd Week of Flowering) - Dognabis Cup General Context:
We are in full flowering for the Ebb & Flow hydroponic setup (after a round with permanent marker for selecting and optimizing genetic traits). This 3rd week of flowering (6th week overall of the cycle) focuses on bud strengthening and preventing deficiencies, with only one out of three plants having stretched enough to break through the canopy and capture decent light. It's frustrating: the delayed start has penalized the others, which have been overshadowed by the dominant one, limiting their access to light and potentially their final yield. Nevertheless, the overall health remains vigorous, and we are adjusting to maximize what we have. Stable lighting at 800 PPFD (controlled via Trollmaster for uniformity), VPD targeted at 1-1.1 kPa day/night to optimize absorption and avoid water stress. Gradual increase of EC to boost nutrition, and starting the boosters: Top Booster (for explosive flowering) and P-Boost (phosphorus focus for roots and buds). pH solution maintained around 6.1-6.4 for optimal nutrient availability in hydro. Key Observations (based on screenshots of setpoints and monitoring): Growth and stretch: One dominant plant has broken through the canopy well, receiving ~800 PPFD effective, which promotes dense flowering. The other two, stifled, show limited stretch – a pity due to the asynchronous start, but we compensate with manual rotation to equalize exposure. No signs of reversion or hermies for now.
Temperatures (Plants vs Room): Stable averages at 24-25°C day (plants) / 21-22°C night, with max/min well framed (26-28°C max day, 20-22°C min night). Room slightly cooler at night (20-21°C), ideal for resin accumulation without thermal stress. Slight increase observed at the end of the week, adjusted via ventilation.
Humidity: Excellent hold at 65-70% day / 60-65% night (plants), with min at 52-55% to avoid mold. This fits perfectly with the target VPD, promoting healthy transpiration without drying out.
VPD: Maintained at 0.94-1.04 kPa day / 0.86-1.04 kPa night, calculated via Trollmaster – spot on for this phase, boosting the uptake of Ca and Mg without excessive transpiration.
CO2 and Light: CO2 at 900 PPM target (currently ~800-807 PPM, red line on monitoring), well dosed for max photosynthesis without waste. Light at a constant 800 PPFD, with average moisture at 12% (solid to avoid damping off in hydro).
Nutrient Solution: EC boosted to 2.5 mS/cm (increase of ~0.5 vs last week), pH 6.1-6.4 (slightly acidic for P/K uptake). Temp solution at 18.1°C for optimal oxygenation. Added Top Booster (stimulates flowering) and P-Boost (roots/buds) at the beginning of the week – visible response in swelling of pistils.
Minor Issues: One "stifled" plant shows pale lower leaves (relative lack of light), but no necrosis. Increased rotation. No alerts from Trollmaster.
Actions Taken: Increased EC to 2.5 mS/cm with integration of Top Booster (standard dose) and P-Boost (focus P for buds).
Daily rotation of plants to equalize light (focus on the two under the canopy).

Week 8 marked by a **major structural imbalance** within the Permanent Marker trio.
**2 out of 3 plants were completely dominated** by the other strains in my run, relegated to the side of the canopy.
The dominant strain plants captured the majority of the light, leaving the Permanent Markers **critically behind in development**.
Visible consequences:
- **Very small flowers**, few in number
- **Airy structure**, lack of density
- **Irreversible delay** in the flowering phase (Day 5)
**Note**: *Despite an average PPFD of **1050 µmol/m²/s** over the week, the dominated plants did not benefit from this light intensity.*
