GoodWeedBerlin Time for a relaxed 1-plant grow. The Cherry Bacio seeds were a desired birthday gift. Sensi Seeds was my preferred seed bank back in the 2000s, and I've always wanted to try a Sherbinski genetic in the tent. The seed soaked in water for about 10 hours. After 10 hours, I tapped it, and it sank - so it soaked up water and is ready to be planted directly into the soil. The growth phase will take place in my little kitchen garden under the old ViparSpectra with a maximum of 50% (45 watts). I don't need a fan that disturbs at night and draws energy. Plus, it fits in with various other greens that make my food and drinks tastier and healthier. The flowering transition and bloom will then take place in the small Caluma tent. Fertilization will be done with the Atami VGN line according to the schedule.

GoodWeedBerlin No problems going through kindergarten. A little cicada happily sucked on the two bottom leaves but then got punished by the yellow board. The plant was then put into the 15-liter pot a bit earlier than under other circumstances (with mycorrhiza during repotting). This is a test; so far, I've been using 11-liter pots in the 40x40 tent (for single plants). The 15 liters don't have to be packed tight, but they should be completely rooted when it goes into flowering.

GoodWeedBerlin Everything's fine with the young lady. With the first two 5-finger leaves, I removed the cotyledons as well as the leaves and shoots of the lowest node. In the next few days, I'll do the first topping. I've increased the light to 50% of the ViparSpectra (so 45 watts). I'm not in a hurry, but since the cultivar stretches a bit more than classic indicas, I'm trying to use the extra light to keep her somewhat compact.

GoodWeedBerlin Magnificent genetics so far, aside from the slight leaf curling due to the (intentional as it slightly stunts the plant) light stress, everything is like out of a textbook. Rich green, great structure, strong growth impulse. The medium-dosed Atami VGN growth mix also seems to fit. After 3.5 weeks, there was the first topping and a bit later LST on 4 shoots. Whether I will top again or leave it at the 8 shoots will be shown by the plant's growth behavior in the coming days.

GoodWeedBerlin I decided to go for a second topping to then go into flowering with 16 shoots. That was a bit too much stress for her, you can kind of see it. In the meantime, she's also in the tent under the Caluma 75Watt lamp at 66%. The 100% will be there for the flowering transition in a few days.

GoodWeedBerlin Right after the second topping, the plant was a bit worn out, but a week later it's bursting with vitality again. The growth urge is so strong that it's sending out a third shoot/node, which I'm removing again. 16 shoots are enough in the 40x40. With the current state, it's going into flowering tomorrow (12/12 day/night, 75 watts of light).

GoodWeedBerlin The lights have been running 12/12 hours at 100% (75 watts) for almost a week now. Last week, I added the Atami VGN growth mix, and starting tomorrow, I'll switch to the mix for the early flowering phase. As almost always with my plants, I’ll give them 1-3 showers with neem oil preparation at the beginning of the flowering transition. It's important to spray just before the night phase. Besides pest prevention, neem oil also works as a foliar fertilizer. But be careful, spraying right in the middle of the light phase risks burned and sticky leaves. The SCROG net is now in the tent, but I’m using it more for spacing the branches and as a support for LST rather than for classic SCROGging. The plant is fantastic. Healthy, vigorous with plenty of growth power, and ready for all the training methods I've tried with it so far. The node spacing is great for training. So far, the plant is also staying nice and compact.

GoodWeedBerlin After the plant has been growing quite steadily in the first week after the light change, the flowering stretch is clearly noticeable in the second week. The first white hairs have already appeared by the end of the first week of flowering. With the first signs of buds, it's clear that something red will happen in the coming weeks. Subtle but definitely noticeable, it's already incorporating red details into the bloom. I've stuck to the medium dosage of Atami VGN fertilizer (according to the feeding schedule), but I switched the mix at the beginning of the second week of flowering from "growth" to "early flowering phase." The medium dose is the upper limit - at least that's what the slightly burnt leaf tips suggest. The growth behavior continues to impress, the 16 main stems have filled the tent nicely, and the plant remains healthy, vigorous, and pest-free.

GoodWeedBerlin Actually, I would love to keep reporting euphorically about the Cherry Bacio, but it has revealed a significant drawback. It’s hermaphroditic. Since I’ll be away for a few days soon, that’s quite a bummer. So far, the bananas have only appeared in the lower parts of the plant, it seems a bit like the second topping was one too many. Since I was going to do some lollipopping anyway, I tried to catch all the male flowers. I’ll be around for a few more days and can keep an eye on it. A little tip for the grow nerds: Male flower (bud) sites taste different than female flower (bud) sites. If you occasionally chew on both and taste them in your mouth, you have a basis for a taste test when it’s not visually clear. How different soils smell is also a little perception database that I’m trying to acquire. By now, I have to hold myself back from spreading healthy soil on my breakfast roll. 😉

GoodWeedBerlin It seems like the second topping really was the stress factor that triggered the hermaphroditism. On one hand, it might have been a bit much to top all 8 shoots at the same time, and on the other hand, I might have also gone into the flowering phase a bit too quickly afterward. All the shoots above the second cut had male flower characteristics. So far, nothing higher up, and I hope it stays that way. To make the plant a bit more stress-resistant, I added 4g of Silicate (from Terra Aquatica) as a top dressing. The friendly and knowledgeable Atami support once gave me the tip that Silicate/Silicon is a sensible addition to the VGN nutrient line. Otherwise, she gets the Atami VGN flowering mix every other watering at a medium dosage. The stretching was strong for 2 weeks but has calmed down now. I would describe the structure of the framework as slightly over-fluffed classic-indica, but I also tried to grow against the height. The buds seem like they won't be overly large, but they're definitely more compact. The color red is appearing more and more. The smell isn't clearly defined at this stage; when I open the tent, it first smells floral. The harvested hermaphrodite flowers produced the classic gassy Kush smell with a sweet note when rubbed. Definitely less floral than the tent smell.

GoodWeedBerlin After the hermaphroditism is done, the focus naturally shifts back to the beauty of the plant. I love the flower shape and color, as well as the overall growth aesthetics. The resin production is on point, and the smell is a mix between Kush and sweetness with a splash of lemon. In this current phase, I've pushed the Atami VGN flowering mix to the upper limit of the nutrient plan, and it doesn't seem to be too much for her. Before the end of the flowering phase, I tested the pH a bit. My tap water is a bit too alkaline on its own, and with Atami nutrients, it’s slightly too acidic - since I alternate between both consistently, I think it works out fine.

GoodWeedBerlin What a beautiful cherry blossom. Silicate and enhanced flowering nutrient mix seems to be something she really likes. If I go by the flowering time that Sensi Seeds indicates (55-65 days), I should switch to the Atami VGN mix for the ripening phase now. However, the plant still looks so vibrant that I’ll probably give her the flowering mix for another week. The smell is slowly becoming more mature; the blend of Kush, sweet fruit, and a splash of citrus (a little bit sour) remains, but they are merging more into an overall note. The buds I cut out due to the hermaphroditism have turned out to be a nice early smoke test. Even though they were still far from ripe and I quickly dried them in paper bags (they also got 5 days of curing), they were super tasty and hit nicely.

GoodWeedBerlin The colors are continuing to come in. Purple and dark green in the flowers and leaves, the dead hairs are changing from brown to a rich orange. The smell is intense, the filter doesn't completely eliminate the odor, but the lemony-sweet note that lingers behind the filter is relatively subtle. I fertilized once more with the max Atami VGN flowering mix, then switched to the ripening mix. Here, I’m using Atami VGN red (5-2-2) with the minimum, and the other 3 components with the maximum ripening dose. The silicate I used as a top dressing is nitrogen-bound, and there’s still quite a bit of foliage from which it can draw nitrogen - so the minimum of VGN red should be sufficient. In 2 weeks, the beauty should be ready for harvest.

GoodWeedBerlin Today, the lady received her last (ripening) nutrient mix; for the next 7(+) days, it's just water. In the last few days, she's really put on some trichomes; while a week ago there were hardly any amber trichome heads visible, they are now clearly there. I'm aiming for 15-20% amber; the result shouldn't be too energetic. The plant continues to impress - no fuss, beautiful colors, an intense smell. The initial Kush dominance still has an undertone, which mixes with something fruity-floral. And if you keep in mind that it should be cherry, you'll find that in the smell too. Although it's more like the cherry flavor from those red lollipops from the pharmacy back in the day, rather than the freshly picked ones from the tree.

GoodWeedBerlin Actually, the weekly update was supposed to be in 2 days. But it looks like she’ll be ready for harvest in 2 days. And since the last flowering week offers some of the best photo opportunities, here’s a little interim update. The lady has only received tap water (pH lowered to 6.2). A few leaves have also been removed so that some ripening can still happen further down. Two weeks ago, I would have described the trichome coverage as average. But she really packed on the trichomes since then.

GoodWeedBerlin A little update, primarily to make the grow available for the Sensi Seeds Grow Cup. The last crumb has been smoked up by now. Definitely a "see you later" and not a "goodbye." The Cherry Bacio is going back into the tent. The flavor skillfully balances between dessert and gas, hitting my taste perfectly. Cherry ice cream Kush. The effect: positive mood; noticeably felt, but not a couch-locker; works both for staying productively awake and as a sleep aid.

Happy Harvest Day!

What a great genetic variety! I will definitely grow at least the two seeds I still have in my tent. I can't take a star away from the genetics for the hermaphrodite phase after the second topping; I should take that away from myself because it was predictable that cutting all 8 tops at once and then quickly going into the flowering phase could lead to problems. Visually stunning, dark purple-red-almost black colors and the bright orange hairs, the bag appeal is sexy. The buds are frosty, and the resin is very oily (both visually and haptically). I don't weigh the wet weight, but the 1g/Watt threshold (dry) should definitely be surpassed (edit: it’s actually 1.27g/Watt). Surprisingly, the lower buds have also become dense and heavy. I didn't come across any seeds while trimming; one or two will probably still show up, but more likely in the lower buds. The smell has further merged. Right now, there’s a Kush-light with a sweet note, but I'm sure I can report more in detail in the updates after drying. It took about a month of curing for the two flavor profiles to completely merge. Super tasty, and the high is quite universally manageable. I can fall asleep well with it, but also stay creatively awake. My legs don’t feel (particularly) heavy. You can sit comfortably on a couch, but you can also get back up.

GoodWeedBerlin It wasn't planned to harvest exactly on the winter solstice, but the plant shot straight towards that date in its ripening process. On flower day 64, it was (in my opinion) ready. The harvest is wet-trimmed and spread across 3 Dryferm bags back in the tent. The fan is off there, so I get a somewhat constant 60% humidity. 1-2 times a day, I place the humidifier in front of the tent and turn on the fan for a few minutes to exchange the air without losing humidity. When I open the tent, the "light" of the smell has turned into a "heavy." Intense gas smell that completely covers the chlorophyll and carries the sweet note only as a nuance. Edit: First smoke report after 9 days in the Dryferm bags: Taste and effect are on par with the appearance. Once you take a cold hit, it all tastes like the mix that had spread in the tent. Soft-washed Kush with a sweetness leaning towards cherry. When the joint burns, there's a smooth Kush flavor at the beginning of the inhale, which becomes sweeter in the mouth and leaves a cherry-sweet taste after exhaling. The effect is positive, almost euphoric. No couchlock, but also no sativa push.

Very nice photos! They really look like sisters of my Cherry Bacio. Quite impressive – so it has always been the case for me with Sensi Seeds that the plants looked really stable and very similar, with maybe slight variations in aroma. But when it comes to appearance and growth, they are really very stable.

@SheeshtheSchaller, I don't remember where I got them from, but over time I've used 2 regular 40x40 nets like the ones you can find on Amazon if you search for "plant net 40x40." However, I use zip ties to secure them because the net with the intended fasteners is a bit too loose for me.

Hi, why only 66%?
GoodWeedBerlin
GoodWeedBerlin commented10mo ago
@@Flick, When I switch to flowering, it's 100%. That way, the total light amount in 12 hours stays just as high as it was before in 18 hours (at 66% or 50 watts). I've been doing it this way for a long time; there was a hint in a video from (or about) the San-Light guys that this makes the most sense. I found it understandable and have been doing it exactly like that since then. Aside from that, 50 watts in a 40x40 tent is already more than what the growth phase needs. In this grow, I'm neglecting that a bit: But basically, I don't want to waste more energy than necessary.

They look really mega juicy and healthy! LOVE! Unfortunately, I think I messed it up a bit this time. But let's see, there's still some time to get it together. Since we're in the same city: what's the pH of your water? Mine is lower than I thought (7.5). And are you doing anything to deal with the hardness of the water? Cheers!
GoodWeedBerlin
GoodWeedBerlin commented9mo ago
@@Flick, I tested the pH level 20 years ago. With the two organic nutrient lines I've used (formerly BioCanna, now Atami VGN), I never had any issues with pH levels and Berlin tap water. So I never adjusted anything there.
the end.
