Germination Day 1: - Soak 3 seeds in PH 7 distilled water - In seedling tray, on heat mat @ 28C - Soaked 13hrs, transferred to paper towel Germination Day 2: - Prepped soil: 1. Fox Farms Ocean Forest 2. Black Gold Seedling Mix 3. Perlite 4. Gaia Green veg, bloom dry amendments 5. Myke Herb & Vegetable mycorrhizae - Soil @ PH 6.4 - I use seedling cups to leave a small hole in the pot of soil. When the beans are ready, i remove the cups & fill the hole with 100% Black Gold Seedling Mix. Germination Day 3: - Morning: Seed "EM-1" popped. Half inch root showing. Transplanted to 5 gal container & placed in 2x4 tent @ 76-79F, covered with plastic cloche. - Tent RH: 49-54% - Evening: Seed "EM-2" opened slightly, root visible. - Seed "EM-3" still closed - Heat mat temp: 28-30C Germination Day 4: - Morning: Transplanted "EM-2" to 5 gal container & placed in 2x4 tent @ 75-78F, covered with double layered plastic cloches - Tent RH: 49-54% - Seed "EM-3" still closed, in paper towel, heat mat set to 28C Germination Day 5: - Lightly moistened surface of soil above seed with spray bottle. - No sign of seedlings through soil. - Seed "EM-3" still closed, in paper towel, heat mat set to 28C DAY 1: - "EM-1" popped through soil - "EM-2" not showing yet - "EM-3" seed still closed, in paper towel, no sign of germination. - Dropped additional seed "EM-3b" into water to germinate (8:30am) - 2 of the 5 seeds in the package were noticeably smaller than the other 3. - One of those small seeds is the un-germinated "EM-3". - I chose the larger of the seeds to drop into water and will keep the other small seed in it's package for now. DAY 2: - Tent temp: 74-78F - RH: 47-54% - Light on/off: changed to 20/4 - Light intensity: 25% - Distance to Light: 38 inches - "EM-1" fully opened, Cotyledons slightly curled under. - "EM-2" popped through soil, looking slightly yellow. - "EM-3" seed still in paper towel, no signs of germination - "EM-3b" seed sank when touched, 24hrs in water. Transferred to paper towel on seedling tray & heat mat. - Reduced heat mat from 28C to 27C. DAY 3: - "EM-3b" seed showing 1/2 inch sprout. Moved to 5 gallon fabric pot & placed in tent with cloche (humidity dome) on. - Watered "EM-1" & "EM-2" very lightly - Water PH: 6.6 - Removed double layered cloches from "EM-1" & "EM-2" for approx. 6hrs. Replaced only a single layered cloche for 12hrs. DAY 4: - "EM-1" looking taller - "EM-2" looking nice and green, signs of yellow have mostly disappeared. - "EM-3" seed still in moist paper towel on heat mat, no signs of germination. - "EM-3b" not through soil yet. - Removed cloches (humidity domes) from "EM-1" and "EM-2". DAY 5: - Tent temp: 73-79.6F - RH: 49-55% - "EM-1" stretching - "EM-3" seed has no signs of germination, discarded. - "EM-3b" popped through soil, very small, green DAY 6: - Tent temp: 74-80F - RH: 44-58% - Watered lightly with PH 6.5 standing tap water - Installed new AC Infinity "Cloudline T6" exhaust fan & ducting. Constantly on, fan speed level 2 of 10. - Temporarily disconnected 4 inch fresh air intake duct. DAY 7: -Tent temp: 76-82F - RH: 42-55% - Re-attached 4 inch fresh air intake duct. Installed in lower access hole in tent. - Moved sensor probe for AC Infinity T6 fan to plant level. Moved other thermometer/hygrometer probe up to just above lights.

Grow Questions

VanCplGrowsstarted grow question 6 years ago
Brown/rust spots have been increasing on one of my 3 plants. Appearing on upper and lower, newer and older leaves. Does not appear to be a light/heat issue. Treating it as possible Cal def by increasing cal-mag nutes.
Solved
Leaves. Color - Mottling

hey there , calcium was the symptom but light stress was the culprit i'm afraid, you gotta lower your lights to around 30cm (max) - 40cm (min) it seems close, but in fact that's pretty normal, that plus a regular regimen of cal mag and the problem should stop spreading almost immediately. Hope this helps ! ๐Ÿš€

@CRiSPrGrow, Cheers! I"m just hoping these ladies can stick it out at least another week or so. I don't see "EM-2" recovering too well but hopefully she makes it through! ...and ya, been meaning to jump on the chat and say hello. ๐Ÿ˜‹

@CRiSPrGrow, Thanks! Wasn't sure if it was Cal or P deficiency. I've increased both my CalMag and phosphorus so hope things start looking better before final week of flush. Thanks again for the input!

Hi @VanCplGrows! Nice ladies in there ๐Ÿ˜ I'm thinking more of a Phosphorous deficiency, considering you're giving loads of nutrients, I think your plants had enough Calcium and Magnesium. My bet is that you're having salts buildup in your medium, because of an intense feeding schedule and probably a lack of runoff, your rootmass is flooded with old nutrients, and is unable to manage nutrients intakes anymore (lockout leading to deficiencies). In this situation I would flush the medium with tap water buffered at pH 6.2, then help the medium to dry by putting a small fan blowing a continuous breeze on the container's surface. Once almost dry, see how this goes, and probably give it a good meal with Phosphorous and Potassium. Affected leaves won't recover but the new ones should be healthy. Hope this will help, keep us updated and happy growing! ๐Ÿ‘Š

Hey @Stick, thanks for the message. Ya, i've sort of started focusing more on the phosphorous rather than Cal-Mag. My feeding schedule for most of the grow has actually been pretty light. I usually feed 2-3 times per week and only with 30% of the recommended dose. It's only been this past week that i've increased the nutrients. When feeding, i typically only water just until run off starts. When watering with plain pH'd tap water, i tend to water fairly heavily and the run off comes through relatively clear. I've tried to maintain the idea that under-feeding is better than over-feeding but since i don't have a proper EC meter, only a pH meter, it's hard to truly know what's coming out. I figure this will probably be my last week of feeding, then will do a 1 week flush, so not a ton of time for me to turn things around but i'll keep your advice in mind to try and avoid any future problems. Much appreciated! ๐Ÿ‘

i think it was more a ph problem at roots which effect her "P" uptake.๐Ÿ‘บ
