Hawaii Outdoor Auto Grow

Screedo One Blackberry and one Mexican Airlines were germinated. The Mexican Airlines failed to germinate so a second was started a couple days later. Both went into rockwool cubes for a few days and were put into 5 gallon pots of promix. Sunshine during the day, 23w led at night (just to keep my photo plants awake). Let’s see how this goes!

Screedo The blackberry and mexican airlines both are chugging along. Two weeks down, not much to report.

Screedo This week had less sunshine than the previous week. They’re still chugging along. The blackberry is already showing preflowers. Looking at other journals I feel like these two are smaller than they should be at 3 weeks, but this is my first auto grow so I have no idea. They both look healthy and should be getting their second watering within the next few days.

Screedo Week four has brought some disappointment. The Blackberry plant has started to flower. What I thought were preflowers forming never stopped and the top is not growing new nodes. It looks like I'll be lucky to get a few grams off of her by the time she's done. I am quite impressed with the dark color of the calyxes. The Mexican Airlines is growing at the same slow rate, but hasn't yet developed preflowers and looks like it is still vegetating. I decided to try a little LST with them, and it doesn't seem to have bothered them. Both plants seem healthy, but both seem to be rather small for their age. My thoughts are that the medium I'm using doesn't drain well enough so the girls have had wet feet since day one and since the medium doesn't dry out, I don't feel I should water them. What this has meant is that I've only fed them 1/4 strenght nutes once during week 2. The only other thing I can think of is my lighting. I have them outdoors during daylight hours and they share a 30w daylight LED spotlight at 12" at night for about 6 hours. I don't think the LED does much, but daylight maxes out at 13 hours with 6-8 hours of direct sunlight when not cloudy. Lacking any experience with autoflowers I have no idea if this is enough sunlight for them to grow large outdoors. I'm popping seeds to try again and plan to use a 70/30 perlite/coco mix in 3 gal hempy buckets. I figure this will allow the medium to drain and dry more quickly, and allow me to feed more regularly. Anyone have thoughts or suggestions?

Screedo So, after diagnosing overpotting and overwatering I consider this round a lesson learned. I did some pretty cringe worthy things to see if I could somehow improve conditions. Since the blackberry is a lost cause, all I did was remove as much medium as I could from the top. The root system is quite small and I removed quite a bit of wet medium. I’m hoping the reduction will help it breathe a bit better. I went a different route with the Mexican Airlines. I decided to remove it from the pot, remove most of the medium while leaving as much root mass as possible, and repot in a 70% perlite medium. I figured it would have a chance to bounce back as it still has yet to begin flowering. I haven’t noticed much change for better or worse in either plant. I’ve since started a new blackberry seedling in 75/25 perlite coco mix. Hoping the change will bring better results. The blackberry smells fruity when touched, and is black. Even parts of the main stalk are a deep purple.

Screedo The blackberry is a lost cause. It is still progressing, but I'll get a couple bong rips off of her at best. It does smell and look quite nice, considering the sad shape of the plant. On the other hand, the Mexican Airlines seems to be responding well to its new medium. After changing out the medium, I untied all LST ties and just let it grow. It has since doubled in size and I've begun training again. It is full of preflowers but is still vegging so I'm hopeful for a decent yield.

Screedo The Blackberry is continuing to develop and smells really sweet when touched. Looks to be almost ready. I’m hoping for better results the next time around. The Mexican Airlines has made a full recovery and is looking healthy. At the end of week 7 it is still not flowering. I’m happy it’s still getting bigger but am beginning to wonder if it is indeed an auto. I took a few small cuttings in the off chance that it’s not an auto. Overall, nothing really noteworthy this week.

Screedo The blackberry looks to be about a week or two to go. With the soggy medium, I’ll only get one more watering in so it’ll be the flush. Might get a couple grams off of her. I started another blackberry a few weeks back and it looks like it too has begun to flower after 3 or so weeks. It’s in a well draining medium this time so I’m at least hoping for better results. The Mexican Airlines is chugging along. It’s starting the 9 week of veg, and no signs of stopping. Once the last few branches fill out the far side of the pot I’ll put her in the greenhouse in case she’s a photo plant. What started out slow is now looking like it may be quite fruitful.

Screedo The blackberry is just about done. Sooner than expected, it may not finish flushing, but it’s a lost cause anyway. Smells nice and sweet and looks decent considering what this plant has been through. The second blackberry plant looks like it’ll be a small one as well, but looks much healthier than the first. However, it lacks any purple whatsoever. The Mexican Airlines is now starting week 10 of veg. So, just in case it’s not an autoflower, I moved her to my greenhouse. She looks like she’ll be pretty big by the end of flower. Hoping for the best.

Screedo This strain has not impressed me where it counts, vigor and yield. While others may have had success, this strain isn’t worth the effort in my case.

Screedo Well, she’s been out in the greenhouse with my photo girls for a couple of weeks now and it looks like she has started to flower. After 10 weeks, it’s looking like things are finally shaping up. Sad to say the only one of five Mexican Airlines seeds to germinate does not seem to be an autoflower after all. On the upside, I had a hunch this was the case and took a bunch of clones before putting her in the greenhouse, so I should get at least one more chance to grow this strain. She’s looking beautiful now, big thick stalk, lush green leaves. Just hoping it all goes well from here.

Screedo The Mexican Airlines is coming along nicely. Bud sites are filling out but still small as it’s still very early into flower. The plant itself doesn’t smell, but touching the leaves and buds, I’m reminded of a hotel shampoo here in Hawaii. Can’t quite put my finger on which one, but that’s what it smells like to me. My nose is kind of messed though. A few of the clones I cut from her have started to show new growth, so I’ll find out real soon for sure if she is an autoflower or not. I don’t think she’s an auto.

Screedo The Mexican Airlines continues to progress. The buds are filling in and it’s looking healthy. The cuttings I took from her still have me confused as to whether she’s an auto. Half seem to be flowering with almost no new growth over 3 weeks now, but definitely growing as a few now have trichomes forming on the leaves. This would indicate that it is indeed an autoflower. The other half of the cuttings appear to be growing vegetatively. One has grown 3 new nodes and has zero trichome formation. It looks to be growing vegetatively though slowly. I’m curious to see what will happen. None of the cuttings look promising but it was all for fun as I was pruning anyway.

Screedo This plane is going down. I had to remove 4 buds yesterday and 3 today due to mold. We just had a tropical storm pass and have another on the way. Lots of heavy rain and humidity in the mid 80’s. It’s not looking good. It really smells nice so I’m hoping it’ll pull through.

Screedo The mold is relentless. I’ve had to cut at least 7 colas during the past few days. The stormy weather took its toll, but the sun is out again. Hoping that diligence will help me salvage some of this plant as it’s the only one I have. All the cuts I took are flowering, so although it took forever, it is indeed an auto.

Screedo The mold has slowed but about half my harvest has been lost. With the weather so nice the past few days, I’m flushing her until the next rainy day when she’ll get chopped. Would have yielded nicely if it weren’t for the mold, but with the weather we’ve had the past month she’s done alright. Smells real nice. Matter of days now.

Screedo I started out with 5 seeds, but only 1 germinated. 90% success rate with every other strain I’ve tried so these were either bad seeds or bad genetics. The lone survivor took 10 weeks to start flowering, which may be partly due to stress early on and not necessarily a bad thing. This strain seems to have little mold resistance as I was losing a cola per day for about a week. Due to the mold I had to harvest early and lost about 1/2 of the finished product. Trimmed up it looks like it’ll be a bit over 1 oz dry. Smells nice.

Screedo Just wanted to give credit where credit is due. Fastbuds hit me up due to my review. I wasn’t complaining about Fastbuds, but was just giving my honest opinion about my experience. Unsatisfied that I was unsatisfied, Fastbuds sent me seeds to replace those that didn’t germinate. I didn’t expect it and I really appreciate it! Can’t wait to try out these new beans.
