Hi to all! (Day 39) She’s growing like a rocket! Doubled in lenghth but the most grow came from the sidebranches (I Love L S T). Since I bended her the sidebranches are growing like crazy, last night 1 branch grew 4 cm!! The first signs op pre flowering is noticable can’t wait for the nugs to form. Weather is going to be shitty and rainy. I made a shelter against the rain but I was wondering if it’s better to put the plants inside under a 60Watt led or is it better to leave it outside under the shelter (clear coated shelter) Anybody with some advice? Please shoot. Thabks for stopping here 👍.

When should I start to give veg nutrients.. I always try to give the minimum of nutrients. I use cannatera veg and bloom.

If there are no nutrients already added to your soil mix you can start adding your veg nutrients at 1/8 to 1/4 the recommended dose. Remember auto flower plants require less nutes than photo period. If they respond well by showing growth slowly increase the amount over the next few weeks until they green up. I would also like to mention that your day and night time temperatures are very low which can be an issue causing the root growth and plant metabolism to slow down causing an iron deficiency. Due to this your plants are starting to turn light green/ yellow. If you are unable to increase the temperatures you can do a a foliage feeding with a product that contains iron. Start with 1/8 recommended dose. Twice a week. then increase dose to 1/4 until symptoms disappear. Do not spray in full sun do the feeding before the sun comes up or before the sun goes down be sureto get the underside of the leaves where the stoma are located. Happy growing your going to have some big girls.

They look good, you gave them a shelter from above, thats a very good thing. Maybe mix some "soilfuffers" next time in your potting soil ( perlite/or cocofiber) it helps for a better drainage and brings more oxygen to the plants, because the soil dont get so dense
CoastGrower
CoastGrowercommented6 years ago
@Mrs_Larimar, thanks for the advice. There is some perlite on the bottom of my pots. I’m going on a 3 day citytrip so I don’t want the soil to be soaking wet so a little shelter helps a lot.

@coastgrower, How are things going with the Moby Dick? You and I have the exact same issues and concerns ... weather here in Ontario Canada is awful for this time of year. Grey and cool... only two hot sunny days. One of my plants is doing ok but seems to be a little small.. I think my other plant was attacked by an animal and was pulled out. Fortunately everything was intact and I’ve replanted and she seems to be doing fine. Just put my page and any advice I would appreciate. The shelters was a good idea for sure and my pots have been constantly moist by some hard cold rain. I noticed someone mentioned a spray for an iron deficiency. Did you buy this ?

CoastGrowercommented6 years ago
@Kostecs, I’m going to make an update specialy for you ;) From the 3 seeds I got from dinafem only 1 didn’t stop growing so that was a bummer. I only gave it veg nutes once.. I’m not a crazy nutrients giver :) the lesser the better

Plants look very healthy. What sort of soil are you using? Are the pots 25l each or? GL.
Ssomeguy
Ssomeguycommented6 years ago
@CoastGrower, No, I don't mean to make you stress, if it works it works. But personally, looking at the composition I'd probably amend it a bit. I'd have to check out that cannatera veg nutrients first. My main concern with your soil is actually minerals, though. Sure, in veg the plants will typically want lots of nitrogen. Just dilute some urine for that (you'll get a bit of phosphor and potassium too). Maybe a bit of molasses, something simple. Edit: I can't find much info about cannatera, unfortunately. I mean, it's formulated for peat mixes. So it might be good. Probably a safe bet. I'd probably look at other stuff though, like azomite or basalt, soft rock phosphate and stuff like vermicompost, compost and compost teas, ash/char, as well as just random plant debris teas. But that's my approach, like avoiding buying stuff if I can, and rather using the soil and stuff I have and improving that. The vast majority of my soil/nutrients is from stuff in my garden. And I'd buy far less stuff now, since I haven't even used all the stuff I bought, and it's been 8 months, used it for 36 weed plants (initially, quite a bit more now), and some other plants. In total about $150-200 (including some equipment, pots, random stuff) spent, to basically amend all of the soil and stuff required for that. In the mean time I learned about and discovered alternatives to stuff I would've bought or did buy. I find it a bit better to have separate components, like something that's in general mineral rich, especially for less common minerals, then specifics like nitrogen rich, potassium rich, or calcium rich, etc, and combine that as necessary, depending on the soil/conditions. That's a lot of guesswork though.

@@Ssomeguy, would it help to give some cannatera veg nutrients? I’ve used soil like this so many times before and it always worked but you made me stress now :)
Ssomeguy
Ssomeguycommented6 years ago
@CoastGrower, Well, that's basically just peat (as in 100% peat). https://www.eolss.net/Sample-Chapters/C08/E3-04-06-03.pdf So yeah, mineral/nutrient balance and composition is gonna be lacking, imo. I would honestly recommend even just mixing random garden soil (though some of your better soil, if you can) with it.

@DinafemSeeds, good day Mark ! How’s my grow going? I’ve been doing .25ml of nutes two times a week, mixed in with 2 cups of water. I have been Ph-ing the water down to around 6.0 as my tap water is around 7 or more. Thoughts as I begin week 3?
Kostecs
Kostecscommented6 years ago
@DinafemSeeds, sound good Mark. I’ll start on Day 7. A small amount .. I’ll do two times a week... after I mix my tap water and nutes I’ll PH test it. Our tap water here in Runs about 7.0. Follow along with my grow! Any pointers would be nice.
CoastGrower
CoastGrowercommented6 years ago
@DinafemSeeds, I have a ph meter it’s 6.9 and a soil moisture meter. I’m starting with a quarter of what they reccomend.

Hey nice grow, can i ask what benefit does it have to soak the nugs in water?
CoastGrower
CoastGrowercommented5 years ago
@DinafemSeeds, it was very little mildew but I use cannabis as medicine, I have multiple sclerosus so I didn’t want to take any risk for my health. It’s not only water it’s 1/10 h202 hydro peroxide.
DinafemSeeds
DinafemSeedscommented5 years ago
@CoastGrower, A technique I've not seen used for many years but when done correctly can be very useful especially when mildew has been present 👍 Its a technique that does take a little practice but you look to have the tech down 👌 Congratulations on the harvest my friend and thank you for the great diary 👊 All the best ✌️ Mark..

@CoastGrower, those are some beautiful buds man, 👌 I'd love to have some Sativa at hand too!! This MobyDick is already on my wish list for the next season! I'm looking forward for an update on look/taste/effect once you'll try it 😄 I'm curious man, what is the all pre-drying bath thing about? I'd be scared af to soak buds in water. 😯 Anyway, great work here! I'm sure you'll have some tasty smoke out of it 👍

@CoastGrower,I can imagine 🤣 thanks for the info man, I will read about it! Sure thing we can trust him, his Bible was the first ever material I've ever read about growing because it was recommended basically everywhere. Man is a legend. So good luck with the curing, hope they'll be tasty ✌️
CoastGrower
CoastGrowercommented5 years ago
@Fredsai, first time I washed buds I was shitting bricks 😂. Nut because I have the mildew problem I really need to wash off the plants and then put them infront of a fan before putting them in my dry box. You can’t believe how mich dirt comes of the plants. No trichomes were lost.. it’s a trick jorge servantes uses on his outdoor plants and he is a grower that I trust :). The northern light is looking great and I don’t notice any strange things. So from now on I will always wash my buds. But it did scare me 😂

@Coastgrower hey man very nice grow, keep it up! I have seen this strain multiple times because it is a pretty popular one here in the Netherlands. the white flakes on your stem are a sign of good health as the plant is growing faster while the stem itself isn't that flexible in expanding. So nothing to worry about!
the_curious_grower
the_curious_growercommented6 years ago
hmm weird. Can't think of an explanation at the moment, maybe let her dry up a bit before watering again
CoastGrower
CoastGrowercommented6 years ago
@the_curious_grower, thanks.. she’s still growing slowly, I think I overwatered her because her pot stays wet it seems like she stopped drinking. But she looks healthy so I’m not sure anymore. 👍

Nice to see more outdoor adventure up and running on the grow diary platform and this time with our Moby Dick XXL auto 👍 Let's see how this lady performs in mother nature hands 👊 Best of luck with the grow my friend and thank you for choosing our genetics for this outdoor grow 👌 We won't let you down 👍 All the best ✌️ Mark..

@CoastGrower, Moby Dick XXL auto does not have any purple genetics in her back ground but if the temperatures drop low at night then. Yes, their is a possibility that we will see some purple colours coming through 👌 Looking good at this early stage buddy 👍 All the best ✌️ Mark..

@DinafemSeeds, I hope she becomes a biggie in her 25L home. Is it possible this becomes a purple plant?

Nice job man! 👍 I was very curious about this strain and its performances outdoor (seems like we have to face kinda similar weather conditions :) ) but after seeing this I'm more than sure I will give it a try next year! Thanks for sharing and keep it up, I will post a diary on my Cheese XXL Auto if you want to check how a more indica strain (also Dinafem) performs outdoor!! Have a nice one 😎

Lovely bit of LST (Low Stress Training)👍 Keeping that plant low and canopy even for more even and deeper light penetration to those valuable lower budsites 👌 Looking great from this end my friend 👊 All the best✌️ Mark..
DinafemSeeds
DinafemSeedscommented5 years ago
@CoastGrower, I think you'll find it beneficial mate and it will 1 free up some energy for the remaining plant 👍 2 aid with airflow around those precious budsites 👌 Good call my friend 👊 All the best ✌️ Mark..
CoastGrower
CoastGrowercommented5 years ago
@DinafemSeeds, thanks, going to give her a little haircut later today!
DinafemSeeds
DinafemSeedscommented5 years ago
@CoastGrower, You will be fine with some defoliation mate especially at this stage of the Grow, actually it will be very beneficial 👍 Try to be selective with the leaves you remove, you want to take away big leaves that are blocking those precious budsites. Then that excess energy will be diverted into the remaining plant just in time for those flowers to explode 👍 Personally I would not take more that 20-25% of the excess foliage away, try to do it in 1 or 2 goes to minimise stress and all should be good 👌 I'll keep dropping in as you update mate 👊 All the best ✌️ Mark..
