Hi @Questpeace! Light penetration, environmental conditions, and training techniques can have an impact on the side-growth, but the main criteria is genetics. When I have a strain that is fully growing vertically during the vegetative stage, I usually TOP/FIM that main shoot in order to generate more main stems. However at this stage it's too late to try any surgery on your plant, just try to increase light penetration on the lowest parts (by defoliating a bit if necessary) and try to bend the side stems that are too close to the main cola. That is normal. Many strains, have a strong apical dominance. Actually, marihuana as a whole, have an apical dominance tendency
