Just an introduction.
I started a diary Critical that is here only to find the lady was not a lady........shock horror!
Not to be put off Im back on it with my second attempt at a diary. This is a Sugar Mama that is an auto flower that I grew before naturally so the only difference will be Im having a go at LST this time to see if the yield is significantly higher.
If you have had a glance at my previous critical diary you will see I am a novice so any help is appreciated and any glaring mistakes please feel free to say.
At 21.00hrs 8th May noticed tap root is out I will leave this in damp paper for another 12 hrs then pot up in a small plastic cup till the seed establishes itself. Im using Canna Terra as my medium.
Week 1
Wednesday 8th May 2019 Tap root appears
Friday 10th May Lady 2 made an appearance
Just water for the first week. Next week will add 1% Cal Mag.
Will be growing one lady in my tent and the other in my conservatory just to see what difference the LED light makes to yield as Im liking the idea of experimenting after seeing other diaries.
Second Week
15th May splash of cal mag added to PH'd water. light cycle changed to 12/12 as I have just flipped three in my tent. The Sugar Mama is an auto flower that I have grown before on 12/12 from seed so no worries there.
18th May The two ladies have been enjoying some outdoor sun for three days whilst its been very sunny then retiring to the tent at night to sleep😂 Still only getting a splash of Ph'd water with cal mag.
21st May Photos of the two ladies enjoying the sun at 6.30am 😎 think tomorrow I will repot into 12l pots and let's see how big the ladies can get and what the difference will be in growing under LED and natural light. the feeding and watering will be exactly the same for both.
Week 3
22nd May 10.00am Photos of both ladies being transplanted to their new forever home😂 Both are in 12l pots and one will be moved to the grow tent this evening when the lovely sunshine goes down. The other lady will be grown outdoors when its sunny and reside in my conservatory at other times. Now they have been transplanted I will start tomorrow with the addition of 1% Buddy to the 1% Cal Mag for one week before moving onto other nutrients which will be Canna A and B.
28th May Lady 1 is the tent lady and she is 5 inches tall no concerns just light watering with ph'd water and cal mag.
Lady 2 enjoyed some daytime sunshine this week and nights in the conservatory is about 4 1/2 inches tall but did pop through a couple of days after Lady 1 so looks to be growing exactly like her. Again ph'd water with cal mag. Next week looks to be cloudy and showers so think she will be staying indoors. This is quite fluid as should the weather change I will be putting her out immediately.
Week 4
All looking good no problems. Both ladies seem to be growing at the same rate.
30th May upped my feed schedule slightly by adding buddy and Canna A and B at 1% might need advice as when to start my LST training.
1st June Lady 1 in the tent really growing and at 6.5 inches Lady 2 the outdoor/conservatory grow only 5.5 inches seems the LED lights do make a considerable difference.
2nd June Lady 1 has begun LST whilst I think Lady 2 will be just grown naturally even though she's 6 inches today. She is not a thick as Lady 1 healthy and growing but already I believe the extra concentration of light and 12hrs complete darkness does reward you in growth. I have to say thank you to Planttracker for his/her advice on starting LST.
3rd June End of the 4th week considerable difference in growth between the two ladies even if Lady 2 is now 7 inches tall. Lady 1 looks good to me now I've started LST will slightly increase nutrients to 1.5 % for the Canna A and B for Lady 1 as I think she will hit pre flower then.👍
Week 5
June 5th Start of the week Lady showing signs of pre flower so she will now be added to the flowering week and as such she will be feed a slight increase of Cana A and B at 1.5%.
Lady 2 is growing nice and healthy but way behind in terms of bulk and development. I'm happy with this as it is a comparison grow of the effects of my LED lights and Mother Nature. Hopefully will also mean there is a difference in harvesting times so the tent lady will be dried first and placed into mason jars to cure as I harvest Lady 2. Thats the plan, but you never know fingers crossed that I will now complete a grow diary😋
7th June a bit more LST done to Lady 1. Lady 2 growing straight and tall now at 9 inches.
11th June last day of the week. Just finished my LST on Lady 1 have to say I'm happy with the way she has responded. No defoliation. just leaf tucking where possible as I like to keep them on for photosynthesis.
You can see a big difference between Lady 1 and 2 and that's due only to the LED lights. As an auto flower I expected her just to be a smaller version but definitely looks like a photo still in veg mode.
Week 6
12th June Lady 1 looks to be doing good with her LST so think I will just leave her now as the canopy seems even now just for the light to do the magic. Nutrients will be kept the same no need to get any type of burn and PH'd water is between 5.8 and 6.2. Lady 2 is growing but vastly different to Lady 1. Outside weather here in England is somewhat rainy so she hasn't been out for the light and it shows.
Hope this is the stat of another uneventful week with plenty of growth to the bud sites.
18th June last day of the week. All seems well and good. Had a go at LST on Lady 2. Due to the torrential rain here she has not been outdoors this week and it looks like there's more rain to come next week. Oh to be in England in the summertime.
Wish there was somewhere I could post a photo of a plant that is growing in my tent that the likes of I've not seen before. I was given some seeds to grow but have no idea what they are, but its fun seeing what they are like.Think I will be growing photos after I finish with my auto seeds as they are to me not difficult to grow if you keep things simple.
Week 7
19th June. Start of the week.
Lady 1 enjoying the tent and getting bushier leaf tucking is getting harder as they grow and keeping nutrients at the same level as there is no signs of stress or deficiency.
Lady 2 still staying indoors due to the heavy rain here. I have started LST on her to keep the leaves away from bud sites. She started slowly but is growing healthy and shows no signs of being unhappy. I don't expect a high yield from her but she has cost nothing so any return is good. She too is on the same nutrients.
21st June Summer Solstice and at last Lady 2 gets to go outside. Fingers crossed the sun is here for a while. Lady 1 is just doing her thing and only needs watering every two days as I tend to let them dry up a little. Water ph is always between 5.8 and 6.2 as I've read different nutrients are taken up at different ph levels so I make sure each watering is at a different level.
24th June Lady 1 just starting a nice perfume and starting to show a little amber. Lady 2 slowly catching up but no sunshine here for her as the weather is terrible. Next doors cat has been out more than her😂 Might just up nutrients next grow week to 2% Cana A and B?
Week 8
26th June Start of the week no problems I know of or can see. Still no sun for Lady 2 to go outside. Keeping nutrients at the same level as both look healthy and green to me showing no signs of deficiency or lock out.
29th June Lady 1 showing bud development now , so nutrients increased to 2%. The bud sites are slowly turning amber so everything appears to be heading in the right direction. Just need Lady 2 to join the party.
2nd July last day of the week. Lady 1 getting bushier and leaf tucking done it is noticeable now looking at the leaves that one has a stronger indica gene even if they are meant to be the same seed.Nutrients moved up to 2% this week as bud growth can be seen. As its meant to be about ten weeks from seed to harvest which means little in real terms I will start with Finale next week to give the buds a quick surprise see if they will get dense.
Week 9
3rd July Start of a new week.
All is going along quite nicely. Will be adding Finale this week to hopefully promote bud growth for the next two weeks as she is an auto and seed to harvest 10 - 11 weeks. Lady 1 has grown well and I think she could hit that target. Lady 2 well she didn't see the best of the English weather and has struggled due to no sunshine. She has grown healthy despite all this.
Very little to add this coming week as Im in Alicante for along weekend starting tomorrow 4th July till the 8th July have a friend coming to water all the ladies, fingers crossed for no mishaps during that time😬
Week 10
Thursday 11th July Start of a new week. Lady one is budding up nicely and Lady two is just plodding along😀 Cant see lady one being harvested next week so everything will stay the same.
Wednesday 17th July last day of the week no issues with either lady. Not sure if Lady 1 needs two weeks to harvest as she is starting to fatten up with Lady 2 coasting along which is good meaning that one can be harvested and dried and when that's done start on Lady 2. Will be interesting to know if the lights also make a difference to potency. Many variables as you can see from Lady 1 and 2 there are different leaf formations from the same seed batch. One has the slender finger leaves while the other the dark green fatter broader type so thats the sativa and indica showing out. Going to up finale to 2% just see if the buds fatten up.I'm thinking I could easily let her go two more weeks for best results as why be impatient and ruin what looks to be a decent plant grow and decent yield for an auto👍
Week 11
18th July Start of a new week
The ladies all look well. I have now put all nutrients at 2% and expect now to harvest lady 1 in two weeks with lady 2 probably at least three weeks after looking at her. My photo that is growing in the tent looks to have another week before harvest. No diary done for her as I have no clue what she is as I was given some seeds by a friend and they were a mixture.
I haven't ever flushed plants before as Im sure I'm one of those who can't taste nutrients in my smoke when Im insane in the membrane😀
If anyone sees anything that is glaringly wrong please let me know. Im quite chuffed that I have got to week 11 and no brown tips to the leaves so my ph levels being from 5.8 to 6.2 and under the recommended dosage levels has been spot on.
25th July end of the week
No problems until yesterday the temperature here has gone through the roof. Doing my best to keep it below 30c humidity is okay. Lady 1 is packing it on and still throwing out white pistils and Lady 2 well she's a lady and is doing things at her own pace but no concerns. Just noticed that Lady 1 has started to get brown tips on a couple of leaves so could be an indication that she is starting to get ready to be harvested after another week. Will be keeping an eye on her all next week.
Week 12
26th July Start of a new week.
Temperature soared this week English summertime in excess of 37c in the tent at times. Placed those frozen cooler box things into the tent to get it down to 29c the best I could do. Now today we have rain so a lot cooler and lady friendly. I did notice that some of the amber pistils had fallen away. Do not know if this is normal or just due to the high temperature we have had for a few days. Again like a broken record everything appears to be good and I am sure Lady 1 is on her way to being harvested soon. I have even germinated 6 Critical autos now as I want to fill the tent now and have become addicted to diary writing😂
27th July Now started the two week flush with PH'd water at 6.2 hope that's how you do it.😬
30th July Nothing new to say except Lady 1 still packing the buds and throwing out white pistils. Still glittering trichomes everywhere just need them to start going milky and amber. Still over a week of flush to do so let her do her own thing. talking of doing her own thing Lady 2 surprises me all the time she is starting to build up now and you can definitely tell the strain dominance in the plant even if they were from the same seed. She's still on nutrients at 2% see no need to change.
1st August Happy Yorkshie Day everyone 😀 End of the week and the ladies seem fine to me. Still think Lady 1 could be chopped down end of next week on the 8th August that would be a 91 day grow. If anyone has any thoughts about this please say all help gratefully accepted. Still PH'd water at 6.1 today for lady 1 and 2% nutrients for Lady 2.
Week 13
Friday 2nd August start of the last week I think for Lady 1 but then again she is still bulking up and not in my opinion full of milky trichomes and amber ones. Doesn't seem to be harming her just being fed PH'd water no discolouration of the leaves just starting to see tips brown but that is all. So who knows could go another week longer which suits me as I do like a smoke with couch lock 😀
Lady 2 still doing her own thing looks happy and healthy and slowly putting weight on. Going to be longer than the 10 - 11 weeks from seed to harvest for these autos which to me is good as I'm in no rush and would rather have quality than quantity. Still 2% nutrients for Lady 2.
Sunday 4th Aug still not enough amber trichomes on Lady 1 leaf tips now starting to brown on all the plant so I'm hoping that's a sign she's starting to eat all her stored nutrients and the flush is working. If thats wrong let me know and point me in the right direction.
Lady 2 has started budding up on one side and the other is more pistils. She's definitely got a split personality 😂
Tuesday 6th Aug Still not enough amber trichomes for me so looks like I will be going into another week with Lady 1 she may be a 100 day grow. Lady 2 as you can see is some way behind so will definitely be a 110 plus grow.
Thursday 8th Aug End of the week. Still going more milky trichomes visible but few amber ones on Lady 1, tempted to chop her now and dry and cure her while lady 2 grows more and harvest her when she has 70 - 90% dark pistils and milky trichomes and a few more amber ones just see if there is a big difference in the effects. Would welcome anyones thoughts on this
Well the day has arrived for Lady 1. 70% of the pistils had gone brown or darker in colour and mostly milky trichomes with a few amber ones thrown in. Trimmed weight 280g/10oz which I thought was nice weight for the auto. Buds super sticky and very smelly definitely need a carbon filter when growing this strain. As you see from the photos she has been hung to dry now for 5 to 7 days in a dark room. Temperature will be around 25c and RH about 45% which I think are decent drying conditions. Hope to get 50g/ 1.5oz dry weight from her anything else is a bonus. Will keep you posted when cured in mason jars and give a smoke report. This strain is meant to be THC heavy👍
14th Aug Placed into Mason jars to be cured. 41g dry weight little down but that's life. Buds not that dense quite fluffy in texture but smells sweet.
Smoke Report
Nice and fine bud with a sweet fruity smell. No harsh taste or after taste and slowly builds on you. This smoke is a creeper and definitely an early evening all night one when you don't want to do anything.
Week 16
Friday 16th Aug. Start of a new week and thinking that Lady 2 is now ready for a two week flush. Hoping to get more amber trichomes on her than Lady 1 to see what the "Couch. Lock" effect is like so there is a possibility she could now run into week 18 will be double her life of about 9 - 10 weeks seed to harvest. All looks good so hopefully the next two weeks are as easy as the previous ones.
Week 17
Friday 23rd Aug start of a new week. Looking at Lady 2 I think this week she will be chopped. The main cola is only firing the odd white pistil out so that is ready but just a few too many on the other sites to make me want to wait a few days more.
Sunday 25th Aug Harvest lady 2 trimmed weight 201.2g buds seem more dense than Lady 1 but not as much, very sticky but I have a summer cold so can't really appreciate the sent of the bud.Now hanging in the cupboard to dry for five days or there about before placing into mason jars to cure.
Safe to say this lady had a hard start to life as she was to be grown in the British sun during the summer but the one week we had was not enough. She has done well and will give me a good smoke and I purposefully let her grow longer to get more milky /amber trichomes and see if there was a definite increase in couch lock.
Now onwards and upwards with the next grow and put more of what I have learnt into practice. It was great that so many encouraged me and gave great advice which I am eternally grateful for.
Thank you everyone
Kitkat 👍
