EDIT: This will now be a diary for the 60D Lemon Auto. The freebie sensi star didn't make it afterall. Sensi Star popped but then does nothing for 5 days; I digged it out, and turns out it didn't grow anymore. No tails, no nothing. I chucked it because although it might still make it if given more time, I don't want to deal with problematic phenos. So I germinated the 60 Day Lemon Auto from DNA Genetics instead. It popped after ~18 hours of soak. Transferred it to the same seed starter mix (coco/perlite/vermiculite) and sprouted in 3 days. So I know it was the seed that was the problem. This is my first pure organic outdoor grow. The seed is a Sensi Star freebie (anniversary edition sensi star FWIW) from Paradise Seeds. I got 2, and one of them had a crack; couldn't save it, but it's a freebie so whaddya expect. This one popped, so I'm good. My soil has been ready for a while. It is made of (in decreasing amount): Goat manure compost, cow manure compost, household compost, worm casting, guano, husk char, and azomite (rock dust). The pot will be assembled by mixing the soil with perlite, vermiculite, and sphagnum moss to provide good drainage AND water retention. The mix will be in gradation; mostly soil at the bottom, and gradually less towards the top. The pot is finished with a little neem meal layer and finally coconut husk as mulch (3-5cm thick). The coconut mulch can be removed easily to amend with more compost later on in the grow if needed. This will be a 12-12 from seed grow, because I live in the tropics. I considered getting a cheap floodlight to be turned on for 2 hours in the middle of the night just to prolong the veg period a little bit, but I decided against it. I would like to experience a pure 12-12 outdoor grow in the tropics. I don't mind relatively small yield at all, just as long as I get quality stuff. I don't smoke that frequently after all; my amnesia haze harvest lasted me more than a year. The pot I will be using is a 60L airpot, which is too big, and so I moved the base up to make it a 30L pot. Seed sprouted and is lapping up the tropical sun, although under partial shade of a basil plant. This basil plant has been going strong for almost a year with zero pest issue; I hope it protects the 60D seedling like an older brother. I will keep this here until the 3rd node has developed. Seedling is in a seed starter mix of coco/perlite/vermiculite, in a netpot that has been almost cut in half, held together in another netpot. This is for easy transplanting later on. Off we go then!

I use “water curing” but the joy 3 days instead of 7. It’s quick and clean. But it make sure he buds more concentrated with stronger effect and less weight . Color is like dark tea. Most importantly loose most of the smell and taste. Good for making edible. With little pot smell, you can smoke in public and nobody would notice. Especially if you blend it with kratek.

@Med_in_Tropic, Oh! Ahahaha, yeah. Kretek. These are tobacco with cloves, essentially. Yep. I do roll with it, by blending it with the tobacco/clove mix. The strong clove smell covers the weed pretty well. But I never thought about using these as basically a one-hitter. Nice advice! I'll try that!

@JKT48, have you seen these fat brown cigarettes from Indonesia? It is blended with spices. With water cured weed, you only need very little. For me I can take very little. So I dug out some tobacco and from the tip and pack in like a quarter gram of weed. Has to be done at the safe time though.

@Med_in_Tropic, yes, I do water curing too. However this time, because this is a micro harvest (probably ~5g is all this is going to be), I'll enjoy this pure. What's kratek man?

Yup, those are mother fucking thrips. See if a bacteria call Bacillus Thuringiensis is available at you plant shop. I have used tobacco tea and leaves turned yellow afterward. Could be a coincidence as the plant then was at late flowering stage. But I would not risk tobbacco tea. There is this thing call Tobacco virus that can infect cannabis. Just use strong dose of neem every three days. Don’t for get to add a couple drops of liquid dish washing detergent. If you can go for bacteria, don’t use clove. Clove kills bacteria.

@Med_in_Tropic, our climate is the same. We're both in South East Asia (*wink wink). Alright man, I'll look for those stuffs. Shouldn't be expensive at all. The Bacillus Thuringiensis is only like $7 for a kg.

@JKT48, hi man, you should be okay. Tobacco mosaic virus is not presence in all cigarettes. If you don’t get yellow mosaic pattern on the leaves you are good. Even then, it won’t kill your girl. Keep using the same batch of tobacco that worked. Just want to caution you that there is a risk of disease. No worry. Bacteria - I am in hot tropical climate. So the species here may not work for you. Here what works is a trio cocktail. No one microbe works for both mold and insects well. I found combination works much better. There are combo’s of microbe that can work together and actually more effective together. I spray a combination of one fungus and one bacteria just for mold. If it is too dry, I get aphids and trips. Then I add One other bacteria for caterpillars, aphids, and thrips and such. Here I use Trichoderma Harzenum with Bacillus Subtiles, and Bacillus Thuringisnsis. My spelling should be wrong. Otherwise I am a really big nerd. Just interrogate your shop tender for info on anti pest microbes. These guys knows what work in your setting including dosage and frequency. And the shop tenders most likely grow ganja at home too. Organic solution is not as fast as pesticides. And your girl will have holes in her leaves. I think of it as organically grown marks. She will get bigger and soon you should defoliate old leaves any way. You want buds not leaves and stems. Outdoor is fun. Peace bro.

@Med_in_Tropic, sorry man, this website has been so weird. Couldn't open it almost the entire day yesterday. Unfortunately I sprayed my plant before seeing your reply. But I looked around and that bacteria is available. I will try it out! Thanks for pointing this out. So does this thing work on all insects, or just specific ones? Any anti-mold properties in your experience?

Trips lay eggs on the soil. So you may need to spray the soil surface also.

Good luck, seems pretty well thought out, good conditions... only 6l pot though?

@JKT48, Well, I'm not too far from the tropics (in Africa) and my plants have struggled for light too (lots of obstruction, continuous rain/overcast weather at times). I've done similar (even without airpots) and the initial bit of lacking light (while not ideal) shouldn't be a big problem since the plant will quickly outgrow it (it's gonna try to reach/stretch for light for a little while) and naturally they are often shaded/obscured or have lower light conditions in vegetation. I'm doing that atm with some new plants too, in winter...I'll see how it affects them. But yeah, if you can adjust the base, that'd probably be the way to go about it.

@@Ssomeguy, yea actually how stupid of me. This is airpot. I could just move the base up LOL! Yea I will do that. I’ll move the base up halfway. I can’t just fill it halfway at the bottom because then the plant won’t be getting enough sun. I’m in the tropics, so the sun is only 12 hours as it is. Thanks for pointing me the right way!

@JKT48, Maybe you could fill the pot like, half or so to start with, gradually add stuff?
