EDIT: This will now be a diary for the 60D Lemon Auto. The freebie sensi star didn't make it afterall. Sensi Star popped but then does nothing for 5 days; I digged it out, and turns out it didn't grow anymore. No tails, no nothing. I chucked it because although it might still make it if given more time, I don't want to deal with problematic phenos. So I germinated the 60 Day Lemon Auto from DNA Genetics instead. It popped after ~18 hours of soak. Transferred it to the same seed starter mix (coco/perlite/vermiculite) and sprouted in 3 days. So I know it was the seed that was the problem. This is my first pure organic outdoor grow. The seed is a Sensi Star freebie (anniversary edition sensi star FWIW) from Paradise Seeds. I got 2, and one of them had a crack; couldn't save it, but it's a freebie so whaddya expect. This one popped, so I'm good. My soil has been ready for a while. It is made of (in decreasing amount): Goat manure compost, cow manure compost, household compost, worm casting, guano, husk char, and azomite (rock dust). The pot will be assembled by mixing the soil with perlite, vermiculite, and sphagnum moss to provide good drainage AND water retention. The mix will be in gradation; mostly soil at the bottom, and gradually less towards the top. The pot is finished with a little neem meal layer and finally coconut husk as mulch (3-5cm thick). The coconut mulch can be removed easily to amend with more compost later on in the grow if needed. This will be a 12-12 from seed grow, because I live in the tropics. I considered getting a cheap floodlight to be turned on for 2 hours in the middle of the night just to prolong the veg period a little bit, but I decided against it. I would like to experience a pure 12-12 outdoor grow in the tropics. I don't mind relatively small yield at all, just as long as I get quality stuff. I don't smoke that frequently after all; my amnesia haze harvest lasted me more than a year. The pot I will be using is a 60L airpot, which is too big, and so I moved the base up to make it a 30L pot. Seed sprouted and is lapping up the tropical sun, although under partial shade of a basil plant. This basil plant has been going strong for almost a year with zero pest issue; I hope it protects the 60D seedling like an older brother. I will keep this here until the 3rd node has developed. Seedling is in a seed starter mix of coco/perlite/vermiculite, in a netpot that has been almost cut in half, held together in another netpot. This is for easy transplanting later on. Off we go then!

The seedling continued growing slowly but steadily. On thursday morning the taproot finally appeared. The netpot was placed in a little standing water to allow me to see it. After that, I drained the water and allowed sufficient air flow under it. The evening we can see the taproot have air pruned. I gave it another 1 day to see if there is any bad effect from the air pruning, and there is none. It continued growing. So I transplanted it to its final pot on Saturday. I gave it very well draining soil mixture around the root ball, mixed with plenty of mycorrhizae, covered with coco coir, and watered. From here on out I will only have to observe because watering shouldn't be an issue until quite a while, as the container is very big. Covered it with more coconut husk to right below the coty, and there we go. Checking in monday morning and its doing well enough. We will sit back and only check in periodically now. Wish me luck!

As far as tracking the day-to-day growth, I always love this period the most. I mean, you can look at the plant in the morning, and notice the growth on the very same evening! Nature is amazing. The plant is not losing a beat since the transplant the week before. It's still growing, and I've only watered slightly around the seedling at the middle of the week. Notice the picture on D21; there are some tiny holes on some leaves. Probably bugs. Since this grow is mainly to evaluate my outdoor growing condition, I will do nothing for now, but just wait and see.

Look, I know outdoor soil grow has its own challenges, and I know I will come across those later on. But for now, I am LOVING this. No rez changes, no pythium, no yucky green algae, no pH up/down... not even watering!!! It friggin rained on the day I was gonna water! I’ve got nothing to do, and I am loving it. I think next week will be more of the same. This thing is still quite tiny, and I don’t see training happening this coming week. We shall see. On a different note, how is it that other people’s plant already so big on week 3 or 4??? How do you guys do it?

The hairs have started popping out. Flowering has started it seems. Well, the plant is still itty bitty, so this is gonna be a really small plant. It's fine though, for a first time organic outdoor grow this is okay. I started LST this week. The plant is healthy and recovers in like 2-3 hours or so under afternoon sun. Too bad I couldn't control the veg period, this being an auto and all. Growth may be slow, but this thing is healthy and problem free. Except for the stunting of course. Again, I've only been watering with plain water. Maybe I'll do diluted coconut water next week. Coz why the hell not.

The plant was chugging along beautifully with only water, throwing out a lot of pistils and some trichomes. It has started to give off a faint but pleasant smell too. I started thinking: "This is great. What could go wrong? I am one with nature". It turns out mother nature isn't really a nurturing docile hippy mother-figure. Apparently she's more of a hardcore biker chick with anger issues, and she was offended by my thoughts. She flipped me the bird hard. Pretty much overnight, I see a bunch of my leaves turning yellow, with pronounced tiny spots. And I found under the leaves these clusters of white eggs. I'm not exactly sure what these tiny white bugs are. I always thought they're whiteflies. If anyone knows what it is, let me know down in the comments please. I've prepared a steeped solution of tobacco+clove tea and neem oil in a spray bottle. Will spray the leaves with this mix over the course of a few days. Let's see if this can kill these motherfuckers. Any other organic recommendations are welcome.

I was spraying every night with my mix, and the thrips seemed to have been stopped in its tracks. But then I went on a 4 days work trip, and I came back to see her all spotty. I will continue with the sprays every night, and we'll see what happens. But really, I like this strain. Even with all the disease, the top cola is actually looking yummy and trichome-y. I do notice that only fan leaves are attacked by the thrips. The ones with trichomes are virtually untouched. I don't know if they just haven't got their turns yet, or if the trichomes really do act as safeguard against pests.

Still lots of work trips, peeked at it during mid-week, looked fine, watered it a little with plain tap water, left it by itself. Some pistils have started turning amber, smell is REALLY good! Actually fruity and sweet smelling, reminds me of grape soda for some reason. If it is actually 60 day, it should be done in two weeks or so. IF this thing matures and end up actually smelling the way it smells now, I'll definitely grow this indoor soon.

Wow!!! 60 Days right on the dot! I am TRULY amazed. DNA Genetics has done an amazing job here. Seeing as how at Day 63 there are more amber trichomes than what I would have liked, it seems this thing truly is 60 days. I will chop it down tonight. Seeing as how there are lots of grime and bug eggs and bugs and all those other shits, I think I will need to wash this bud a little. I plan to cut off all the fan leaves, cut the main stem, then just swirl the whole thing in 3 different buckets. Water+Baking Soda, Water+Lemon, then finally clean RO water. Let's see how this will go. Wish me luck dudes!

Happy Harvest Day!

As usual, I can't say if this is a night or day strain. It affects me like most other strains, in that it depends on what I do with it. If I then sit down on the couch, I'll just relax and won't be getting up anytime soon. But more often, I just get high and have short term memory losses and forget what I was doing. So no multitasking, but good on just doing single tasks. Cleaning/tidying up, writing reports, cooking, or even playing online chess. Chess on weed is interesting; forget an overall grand strategy, I treat it as puzzles where I just figure out the best move for any given position. For some reason I can "see" the board more clearly, I can see the different lines and the available attacks more easily. The smell of this thing when dry is REALLY good. I swear it smells like grape bubble gum. Love it! But when it smokes, it just tastes like weed. It's a smooth smoke though, so there's that.

This was a very much set it and forget it grow, other than some minor LST here and there. Yes, this becamse stunted, but most probably due to the combination of me doing transplants and the bug infestation. Next time, I should just start with the final container instead of netpots or whatever. DNA Genetics weren't kidding when they say it's 60 days. My total grow time from soaking seed to harvest was 65 days. I will definitely grow this strain again after I'm done with the (current) heavenly hashplant grow. Splendid job by DNA Genetics! Growth was alright. I had whitefly infestation, and it did wreck some of the fan leaves. However, it must be noted that the damn buggers did not touch the buds AT ALL. They seem content on the lower fan leaves only. Considering my past experiences with whiteflies, this is good enough pest resistance as far as I'm concerned.
