Hey Everyone!
I am back with another grow after losing my last crop of GDP to spider mites 😑 and I am excited to be using some Mephisto gear finally. I have heard good things about their genetics locally where I am at and watched some of the plants grown out on here and I have been really impressed. I am also super psyched to be running some limited edition Illuminauto strains and getting more into autos which I am just loving. Depending on how this goes I may just move to a perpetual auto grow in here running 3 at a time and overlapping them by about 2 weeks or so.
Grow Specs:
Strain: Blue Toof
Breeder: Mephisto Genetics
Number of Plants: 3
Tent: 48" x 36" x 70" LA Garden 2 in 1 tent (no middle panel used)
Pots: 5 Gal Equivalent Air Pot
Medium: non-ammended Roots Organic Soil
Nutes: Please always see picture for actual nute dosages
Lights: Each plant has a 300W (132W actual) Galaxy Hydro LED overhead. Will turn on 4th light once we are in flower.
Water: Reverse osmosis 2-5 ppms
Update schedule: I will try to send out the updates every Saturday or Sunday.
Grow Schedule to Date:
Germination: 7/30/17
Germination Success Rate: 100% (Thanks Mephisto 👊)
Planted into soil (final container): 8/2/17
BT#1 Sprout - 8/3 - 9 days old as of 8/11/17
BT#2 Sprout - 8/4 - 8 days as of 8/11/17
BT#3 Sprout - 8/4 - 8 days as of 8/11/17
Bonus: I recently built a drain to waste table for indoor growing but it ate up too much vertical space (16" of my 70" total) so I removed it from the garden. I tried to kind of show my process in the pictures but if you want me details let me know. It works perfectly and I will use it for sure when I get a taller tent room.
Thanks for stopping by and happy growing out there!
These girls are growing fast! Have I said how much I love autos yet? 😊 Mephisto killing it so far. 👊
Ages below (from sprout):
BT1 - Day 16 as of 8/19/17
BT2 - Day 15 as of 8/19/17
BT3 - Day 15 as of 8/19/17
Updates and Observations:
Heights:
BT1 - 4"
BT2 - 3.5"
BT3 - 4"
Temps:
- 64F Lows at night, 75F Highs in the day.
Growth:
- They are all putting out their fifth nodes right now.
- On the night of 8/12, BT3 fell over and laid on the ground, leaves pointed up at the lights until the morning of 8/13 when I noticed it and propped her up using a zip tie.
- Despite the collapse on 8/12, BT3 seems to be the dominant plant at this point with BT1 and 2 following respectively.
- Internodal spacing is very tight despite 30" to their respective 132W actual LEDs. This makes me think that they are going to be some very short, bushy plants which is all cool by me. 👍
- They have hit their strides and definitely started to grow very vigorously over this past week or so.
- I like the shade of green on the leaves I am seeing.
- Leaves appear to be very, very wide, possibly indicating the cross is leaning a little more on the Indica side?
Watering:
- Been giving them about 1/3 gallon of RO water each whenever they dry out which is about every 2-4 days so far. I just throw a smidge of Recharge and B-52 in there with them for healthy stalks and roots.
- Not planning on going crazy with the nutes this run unless needed. I experimented a bit with my outdoor autos and honestly the Roots Organic soil seems to have pretty much everything they need when it comes to NPK up until late flower. I will have to factor in that these plants probably are going to have a much higher metabolic rate than my outdoor crop because the outdoors received significantly fewer hours of sunlight but we will see how it goes.
Thanks to everyone stopping in! Always grow from your heart and good luck to everyone doing it right out there!
Ages below (from sprout):
BT1 - Day 23 as of 8/27/17
BT2 - Day 24 as of 8/27/17
BT3 - Day 24 as of 8/27/17
Updates and Observations:
Heights:
BT1 - 6"
BT2 - 6"
BT3 - 9"
Temps:
- 64F Lows at night, 75F Highs in the day.
Growth/Training:
- All plants are showing sex (f) as of 8/24 but I believe they started showing a few days before I noticed the pre-flower pistils at the bud sites.
- I have been tucking and removing certain leaves for airflow and light penetration purposes but I max out at one to two leaves per day. I have not noticed any real shock or slow growth. They are just super bushy!
- BT3 has definitely taken a decisive lead as the alpha and looks very healthy. She has almost perfect internodal spacing and I wish the others would stretch a bit more like her!
- Backed the lights off about 6" (about 3' away from tops) to hopefully encourage some stretching.
Watering:
- They got 3 waterings this week. I am following a sort of "feed, feed, water" rhythm about ever 2-4 days depending on when the pots are dry. Hopefully this will prevent any heavy salt build up which can cause lockout.
- Noticed a slight nitrogen toxicity starting to build so I will be using plain RO water for the next few waterings or maybe dropping the B-52 down a bit.
- I am actually using the nutrient concentration seen above in 1.5 gallons of water and then giving each plant .5 gallons of water. This seems to be perfect for runoff.
Miscellaneous:
- I cleaned my entire garage from top to bottom because it is about to get very cold where I live. I reorganized everything, using my shop vac to vacuum out all the corners and edges then I push broomed the whole floor and it is clean enough to eat off of! Just the way it should be in my opinion! A tip I picked up from Rasta Jeff on the Grow From Your Heart Podcast was to do all your sweeping and cleaning right before your plants go into flower and get sticky because you do not wanting to be stirring up dust that will land on them and create issues if you can avoid it. Thanks Jeff!
Thanks for the support out there folks. Big shout out to @TheFairyBudMother for a little pick-me-up on a day when I needed it!
I feel like I am a character in A Series of Unfortunate Events: Microgrowery Troubles. 😢
I cannot rate this strain because she only made it to week 4 before I accidentally killed her. I failed to clean out the secondhand sprayer I received from a friend before I sprayed my plants with a Neem/soap solution. Unfortunately there must have been some left over roundup left in it that just tanked my plants in a matter of days. Learn from my mistake! Always clean equipment from other grows before use! I have 3 more seeds of Blue Toof though so I hope to grow them out soon!
Definitely a hard lesson to learn but one that I will not soon forget. Always clean out equipment before use!
Blue Toof was very neat up until I sprayed them. It grew incredibly compact with tight inter-nodal spacing. I used light defoliation and leaf tucking to get light to lower branches which caused them to be very bushy I think. For my next plants I will not remove the upper most fan leaves until a bit later in their lives after they have stretched a bit.
Thanks to everyone who swung by and sorry for blowing it again. New diary will be out in about a week or two. I have 2 strains germinating that just went into paper towels this morning. @Mephisto Genetics - 2 seeds of Northern Cheese Haze x Sour Hound and 2 seeds of Gold Glue (Illuminauto3). Happy growing out there.👊
@CaciqueCayacoa,
My bad dude. Hard to tell tone on these things. I should have given you the benefit of the doubt. I just hated the idea of leaving it open haha. Something about it. Happy growing to you good luck man.
@Grimbol, Probably a closing without harvest is needed but adding a harvest with no actual harvest is pretty deceiving, specially on the rating, that affects the strain and the breeder overall rankings.
My bad if I sounded bitter but rather than rating it, you should have left it as it is. Instead of being aggressive I was being ironic on the action itself because you rated it just to say you cannot rate it. happy growing!
@CaciqueCayacoa,
Grow diaries does not allow you to close a diary without a harvest and rating. I explained it very thoroughly in my notes and did not give it bad ratings and gave it the third highest marks so that it wouldn't influence much on the site. I explained what I was able to observe and left it at that.
Do you have a better idea how to handle the situation or just passive aggressive comments?
I've seen things like this before personally.
The yellowing of the inside portion of the leaves looks like iron deficiency could have been from lockout.
The leaves wilting like that looks like under watering the way the leaves look like they are drying out looks identical to the plant I had issues with, I drenched the pot watered it so there was loads on run off then sprayed with a CalMag solution the whole plant. It bounced back and was fine after.
If I could link pics I would.
With those air pots I think the best thing to do is soak the medium leave it for a few days before you plant any seedling in it. If you don't water properly you can get canals of wet patches and dry patches where the roots will die because they aren't getting any water. I could be totally wrong of course but looks suspiciously like the issues I had once. Good luck on next grow, peace 👍🏼
@PharmaZ,
Thanks man. Much appreciated. Yeah I have heard only good things about Mephisto and I am pretty set on switching over to autos so they seemed to be a great option. So I haven't told anyone on here yet but I germinated 4 seeds about 3 days ago. I popped 2 Gold Glue and 2 Northern Cheese Haze x Sour Hound. That journal should come out this coming weekend. Cheers man.
@Grimbol, No problem at all pal, I would've liked to see you turn it around :( Interested in Mephisto strains so I hope to see you grow another, if you do pm me to let me know when you start and I will follow you gladly, peace dude👍🏼
@PharmaZ,
Thanks for the detailed advice man much appreciated. PH has been pretty stable though around 6-6.5 and the speed of the onset made me think it was the sprayer. I actually chucked them all already unfortunately. I know I was only in veg but if there was even a chance of that toxic stuff being in the plant or flowers I won't risk it. Just not worth it to me. Thank you for the helpful advice man. I will remember it. Happy growing.
