Germination
4mo ago
CannaArchive Method: Direct to soil Medium / Pot Size: Seeds were planted directly into 1 L pots filled with BioBizz Light Mix (peat-free) mixed with worm humus. Environment: Temperature: ~24 °C (supported by a small heating mat underneath) Humidity: maintained with a humidity dome for the first 4 days Light cycle: 18/6 Light intensity: ~300 PPFD. ☀️ Watering: Lightly watered after planting to keep the medium evenly moist. 💧 No CalMag or additional inputs were used at this stage. Observations: Both seeds broke through the soil after 4 days without any issues. 🌱 Seed shells fell off naturally, and both seedlings emerged evenly and healthy. So far, both plants look very similar in structure and vigor. 🙂 Notes: A smooth and uncomplicated germination week. Direct sowing into soil worked perfectly, and both California Octane seedlings are off to a strong and stable start. 🌿💪

CannaArchive Both plants are now about 7 days above soil and establishing their early vegetative structure.🌿 They currently show 2 fully developed nodes with the 3rd node forming. Light cycle remains 18/6 at ~300 PPFD with stable temperatures around 24–26°C. Watering is done with approx. 200 ml RO water + Advanced Nutrients CalMag per plant, based on pot weight.💧 The full 1L pot is evenly moistened each time. Early phenotypic differences are already visible.👀 One plant stays compact at~4 cm while the other shows stronger vertical growth at~9 cm. Despite the height difference, both plants display healthy green coloration with no visible deficiencies. Internodal spacing is appropriate for this stage and leaves are slightly praying upwards towards the light.☀️ Stems are proportional to plant size. Air circulation is maintained above canopy level without direct airflow hitting the seedlings to avoid unnecessary stress 🌬️ Overall a clean, healthy and promising first vegetative week with early signs of phenotypic variation.🍊🔥 Excited to see how these two develop!

CannaArchive Both phenotypes continued developing steadily during their second vegetative week.🌿 • PPFD increased to ~400 • 18/6 light cycle • Watering every 2–3 days based on pot weight.💧 • ~250 ml per plant (1L pots) Feeding consisted mainly of RO water + CalMag, with one application of Orgatrex during the week. Phenotypic differences are becoming clearer.👀 • Pheno #1 slightly taller (~8 cm) • Pheno #2 shorter but broader and more compact Stems have thickened compared to Week 1, showing improved structural strength.💪 Leaf color remains evenly healthy green on both plants. On Pheno #2, one leaf from the first leaf pair shows slight twisting, but no further abnormalities are visible. New growth remains symmetrical and vigorous.🌱 Overall development looks stable and balanced. Both plants are adapting well to increased light intensity and gradually building vegetative momentum.🍊🔥

CannaArchive This week remained fairly calm in terms of plant work, with the main focus on watering and observing development 🌿 The plants were watered with ~300 ml water + BioBizz CalMag, and received 1x Orgatrex during the week. Toward the end of the week the lowest leaves began to show slight yellowing, which indicated that the plants had outgrown their small containers and were ready for transplant. Both plants were transplanted into their 15L final pots at the end of the week. The root systems looked very healthy and well developed, clearly visible when removing them from the previous pots. The new soil mix consists of: • BioBizz Light Mix • Worm humus • Perlite • A small amount of coco coir The medium was amended with BioTabs and Silicium Flash, and Orgatrex was added to activate soil biology. Additionally, mycorrhiza was applied around the planting hole and directly on the root zone to support root colonization and nutrient uptake. • Height approx. ~13 cm • 4 developed nodes with the 5th forming • Both phenotypes currently very similar in size and structure Light intensity remained at ~400 PPFD under 18/6 ☀️ Topping is planned once the plants have fully recovered from the transplant and resume strong vegetative growth. Overall this week marked the transition into the final containers and sets the foundation for stronger growth in the coming weeks 🍊🔥

CannaArchive This week was focused on recovery after the recent transplant 🌿 The plants showed slight transplant stress during the first few days but recovered well and resumed healthy growth after about 3–4 days. • Both plants now growing steadily again • Similar height on both phenotypes • One plant slightly bushier than the other Watering was adjusted to the larger containers: • ~2L per plant 💧 • Water + Advanced Nutrients CalMag • 1x Orgatrex during the week Environmental conditions: • ~25.6°C temperature • ~60% RH 🌡️ Light intensity remained moderate to avoid additional stress during recovery ☀️ After the initial slowdown, both plants showed renewed vigor and continued vegetative growth. Structure is developing evenly, with only minor phenotypic differences visible at this stage. This week was intentionally kept low-stress to allow the plants to fully establish themselves in the final containers before further training 🍊🔥

CannaArchive This week focused on structural training and continued vegetative growth 🌿 Both plants were topped above the 5th node to promote a flatter and more controlled canopy. The topping was handled well by both plants, with no visible stress and continued steady growth. • Topped above the 5th internode ✂️ • Structure beginning to spread out • Preparing for a more even canopy before flip During the topping, a few leaves were removed that were either blocking light or sitting in shaded lower areas. This process was repeated again about 5 days later to improve light penetration without causing excessive stress. Feeding this week: • 1x Greenhouse Bio Enhancer • Otherwise water + Advanced Nutrients CalMag 💧 Environmental conditions remained stable: • ~25°C temperature • ~60% RH 🌡️ Clear phenotypic differences are now developing: • Pheno #1 shows a broader, more lateral growth pattern • Pheno #2 grows more vertically and stretches upward Both plants responded very well to topping and continue to develop strong structure going into the final vegetative week. The flip to 12/12 is planned after Week 6 🌸🔥

CannaArchive This week was all about preparing the plants for the transition into flowering 🌿 Both plants have now fully recovered from earlier stress and are showing strong, healthy vegetative growth. • Height approx. ~40 cm • Both plants compact and well structured • Canopy remains even across main branches Clear phenotypic differences are visible: • Pheno #1 grows broader with well-developed side branches and a more even canopy • Pheno #2 shows slightly more vertical growth but remains compact overall Light intensity was increased to ~600 PPFD under 18/6 ☀️ Both plants are responding well, staying compact with tight internodal spacing. Watering remains stable in the 15L pots: • Watered based on pot weight 💧 • Advanced Nutrients CalMag only this week Environmental conditions: • ~25°C temperature • ~60% RH 🌡️ Leaves are a healthy green with no signs of deficiencies. The plants remained very compact, with tight node spacing and strong structure throughout the canopy. Light defoliation was performed throughout the week ✂️ Leaves blocking lower growth or shading important sites were selectively removed to improve light penetration and airflow. Overall the plants are in excellent condition going into the next phase. Structure is set, canopy is even, and nothing is holding them back from a smooth transition into flower 🌸🔥 Flip to 12/12 is planned for the following week.

CannaArchive This week marked the official transition into flower as the light cycle was switched to 12/12 🌸 Both plants entered the flowering phase in very healthy condition with strong structure and an even canopy built during veg. • Flip to 12/12 completed • Plants remained compact and bushy • Strong branching structure established before flower Despite the lighting change, both plants still showed mostly vegetative growth characteristics throughout the week. Stretch had not fully started yet and no visible pistils appeared by the end of the week, which was somewhat surprising but not concerning at this stage. Phenotypic differences continued becoming clearer: • Pheno #1 remained broader and bushier with a very even canopy • Pheno #2 stayed slightly taller with a more vertical structure Light intensity was increased to: • ~700 PPFD ☀️ Watering remained consistent • Watered every 2–3 days based on pot weight 💧 Feeding this week: • 1x BioTabs Bio PK • Otherwise RO water + Advanced Nutrients CalMag Environmental conditions stayed stable: • ~25°C temperature • ~60% RH 🌡️ Light defoliation from previous weeks continued paying off, with good airflow and light penetration throughout the canopy. Both plants appear healthy, vibrant green and fully prepared for the upcoming stretch phase. Overall this week served as the transition period between vegetative growth and flowering, with the plants slowly preparing internally for the explosive stretch expected in the following weeks 🍊🔥

CannaArchive The California Octanes really started settling into the flowering transition this week 🌱✨ Even though they still visually lean heavily toward veg growth, the stretch has clearly started. The plants became much denser, side branches pushed upward aggressively and the overall structure is developing into very bushy canopies 🔥 PPFD was increased to around 850 and both plants are responding very well so far ☀️ The leaves stayed healthy and relaxed with no major signs of stress. Especially the bright lime-green new growth shows how active and vigorous they currently are 💚 Water consumption also increased slightly this week, with watering now happening roughly every 60 hours 💧 Their thirst is slowly ramping up together with the stronger lighting and faster growth. Feeding stayed intentionally light this week: • 1x Orgatrex 🌿 • 1x Green House Bio Enhancer 🍄 • otherwise only water 💧 No real training or defoliation was done this week in order to keep stress as low as possible during transition 🙌 Only some very small positioning adjustments were made where needed. Overall both phenotypes look extremely healthy and vigorous 🚀 The larger plant is already building a wide and even canopy while the more compact phenotype is catching up nicely as well. A very clean and stable transition week so far 🌱🔥

Looks great so far! Did you have any issues or flush the soil before? I'm doing my first grow(s) with the Biobizz Light PeatFree + Perlite as well and always got an EC of 2mS/cm as the first drain despite only using tap water (0.4mS/cm), thought was a bit weird but I'm just a noob, so... 😓
CannaArchive
CannaArchive commented17d ago
@kaeba, Thanks 👌🌱 To be honest, I didn’t do any runoff EC tests myself during this grow since I was mainly experimenting with the BioBizz Light PeatFree on my California Octane run and focused more on overall plant health and organic feeding. I also grow organically with BioTabs, microbes and worm castings, so I try not to chase runoff numbers too much. As long as the plants look healthy and you’re not seeing burnt tips, clawing or other stress signs, I honestly wouldn’t overthink the runoff EC too much in an organic setup 👍
