Smoke report pending. Plant was tended only weekly and ended with bad bud rot. Quite disappointing as this one could have turned out great and likely well over 200 g dry was possible. The smoke was pretty chemically or skunky and not much of a pineapple taste with this phenotype. This plant was awesome but couldn’t finish in time before it got hit by bud rot.

Seemed to work fine. Most impressed with molasses and Gaia Green soluble seaweed extract.

Bad bud rot meant that I had to throw out about 530 g of rotting bud (powdery mildew)💩 If I had kept this plant in my yard, where it would get daily attention, this likely wouldn’t have been so bad. Unfortunately Buddy only got a weekly check by my helper. It’s been really cool and humid so it’s not too surprising this happened, but it seemed to take just a week to get out of hand. The pics from last Saturday looked fine....oh well. My other 3 plants did great so one crash and burn on the experimental plant isn’t too disappointing....well yeah it is, but I’m sure I could pull off well over 200 g with this strain. Oh well, newbie luck. Will still end up with about 400 g total from my four plants, and good experience for next year. Buddy Rotten and the Pot Pistils 🌱 Force flowering for 17 days starting in mid-July was a good idea, but autoflowers are definitely the way to go at northern latitudes. This photoperiod plant could have worked but moving it out of the city thinking it would smell too much was a bit of a mistake. Should finish with 30-40 g which is quite disappointing considering how big and beautiful she was.

I’m at 53 degrees N which means we don’t get 12 hours of dark until too late in the fall. Will I need to provide 12 hours of dark to start flowering this photoperiod plant?

I was reading your grow question and did some research that shows your equinox isn’t until 9/25 and you’ll be frozen out in short order after that. Your plant would need until November 20th give or take to finish.

Decided I had to force flower it. 12 hours per night in “equatorial darkness” which is a big change from our 17+ hours around the equinox. Not a problem for one plant but I wouldn’t want to have to do it for more than one plant a year. So, three autoflower and one photoperiod will be the plan for the legal four next year. 😎🇨🇦

I’m sorry about the rot. I know the feeling. Im spraying BT for the cats in the evening like you said. My girls just aren’t finishing up so I’m taking small losses every day. I wanted to finish up this week….. but they’re not listening. Hope the rest of your outdoor plants do well- Cheers

@Todzilla, cool, thanks for the info. I have to do fresh frozen this year and I also want to make piatella style hash so should be interesting and fun.

@Northern_Ent, sorry for the late response, traveling for work this week. I just throw the buds in a deep freezer for a few days and: Lay a layer of ice, layer on buds, cover with ice and then fill with water (in washing machine). Then let it melt. I am in no way an expert like others, BUT I can say that I do fully saturate the buds before agitating and I’ve found that waiting until the ice melts and washing with no ice results in less chlorophyll and green matter in the final product. Note I do add more ice between washes, but I found less ice equals less green hash. Which IMHO is much better as far as the results. Just wash until you get junk. Then stop. I love the end product but sometimes get a little discouraged with 10% yields on the hash. It’s a lot of work but I do this outta love, not profit

Northern_Ent
@Todzilla, I love making hash, and yes I use a standard (not pharmaceutical) Harvest Right freeze dryer. Previously made hash using freeze dried flower which worked well but I want to try fresh frozen this year. My question is do you use frozen buds in washing machine or do you hydrate them first? I suppose I could just throw fresh from the plant buds straight into the washer? I was reading some articles yesterday by a guy who sounded like he knew what he was talking about, but he contradicted himself in different articles. So, not clear on how to handle fresh frozen. Check out my Golosa diary for my hash making from a couple years ago.

@Hellishjam, got the Gaiagreen soluble seaweed extract. Thanks for the tip. The 300 g jar should last a while considering you only need a 1/4 tsp per litre as a foliage spray. I tried finding something like this a couple weeks ago and ended up with Big Bud which is good but at this late stage I mostly just want some K to keep the leaves from yellowing too much.

@Northern_Ent,try looking for the Gaia green soluble seaweed extract I think it’s called, 1-1-17 I just picked some up can use it as a soil drench or Foliar. The Langbinite has 22% sulphur that’s seem like a lot and scares me and it’s slow release.....

Sorry to hear this mate 😟 Same thing happened on my first grow which happened to be PC aswell but I have since learnt to have as much air blowing on and around your plants as possible Never ever water late in the afternoon or evenings and if you can cover them when rain is coming or even better move them indoors

@Northern_Ent, Good luck mate 👍👍
Northern_Ent
Northern_Ent
@DILLIGAF, thanks. Definitely disappointing. A lesson with this one is that with the legal four in Canada I was too worried about the smell being a problem outdoor. The farm where it was is in a bit of a valley near a big river and it would have been even more cool and humid than here in Edmonton. A couple cold nights (3 C) really yellowed the leaves and that likely slowed ripening too. Next year will be all autoflowers (Fastberry, Grapefruit, Jack-47 and Mohan Ram) and hopefully the weather will be better than it was this year. 😎.

@DILLIGAF, thanks, eh? I decided I have to force flower it. All my plants are getting pretty big I think but I certainly don’t want to blow it on this Pineapple Chunk. It’s a great plant so I really hope it works...😎

@Ageddd, thanks. It is the prettiest of my four plants. I miss it being in n my back yard, but it seems okay so far. I’m excited to go check on it in a couple weekends.

She’s a real good looking specimen! I hit the follow button and I’m going to watch you hit the finish line on this one. I just loaded some Pineapple Express autos myself yesterday (indoors) and I’ve seen a few of the chunks that make me want to give it a try.

@ThatoneAKguy, Thanks. This plant was supposed to go to my brother in laws house for some neighbourly discretion (this one might get a bit too stinky) but so far so good and with having to maintain the force flowering schedule think I’ll hold on to it. These plants seem big when I compare to other outdoor grows so I’m getting pretty excited and I really hope it works out. This plants seems the most vigorous of the four, and is highly rated, so I’d recommend you give it a go. 🤠

@ThatoneAKguy, yes it’s pretty far north here which means if you time it right you get a lot of 17+ hour days of light per day around the equinox and then decently warm July and August. Basically great summers here. I think I timed it right on the first try for the three autoflowers but I realize this Pineapple Chunk will have to be force flowered to finish by early to mid September. 12 h in total darkness per for two weeks should do it. Thanks for the reply.

Hi @Northern_Ent! Nice ladies in there! You will need to look at the "force-flowering" technique, which consist in covering your plants with an opaque surface everyday, in order to simulate shortened days. Here's a nice tutorial by SensiSeeds: https://sensiseeds.com/en/blog/outdoor-tutorial-force-flowering/. It's a bit laborious, but sometimes you don't even have a choice, and this could be the only way to save your crop before automn/winter Hope this will help, please let us know how this goes, and enjoy your garden! 👊
Northern_Ent
Northern_Ent
@Stick, thanks for the help. I decided I had to force flower this one because the fall will close in too fast otherwise. 12 hours in darkness for two weeks should do it. I could probably wait another 2-3 weeks but I wanted to start it a bit early.

This photoperiod plant was free from the seed bank when I bought the autoflowers that are needed this far north. They said it was pineapple chunk but it’s flowering now (early July) so maybe there is some ruderalis in it or our cold nights have something to do with it. Either way it’s flowering so I’m happy.

Should also mention leaf spots on new growth this week diagnosed as calcium deficiency. Crushed a couple of calcium citrate pills and added to note mixture. Problem solved as new leaves look good.

Soaked seed in distilled water overnight and then planted directly into soil on April 25. Started on warming mat under CFL grow light. Poking up by April 27 but stretched due to hot seed starting mix that had too much nitrogen. Seed didn’t shed the casing and on May 6 I gently pulled it off. The roots may have been damaged a bit by doing this because the plant looked pretty inactive until about May 15, but now it’s thriving again. This a photoperiod plant, not an autoflower with a limited lifespan, so it should be okay from here.
