MistaOC 15.05. Out of all four unreleased USA genetics in this challenge, I chose F026 — The Tropical Ice Cream One for one simple reason: Instinct. At this stage, almost nothing is known about these cultivars. No smoke reports. No official terpene breakdowns. No grow documentation. Just names… and possibilities. But “The Tropical Ice Cream One” immediately triggered something. The name alone suggested exactly the kind of profile I personally gravitate toward — exotic fruit, creamy sweetness, layered dessert terps, maybe even a slightly cold or candy-like back end. The kind of cultivar that stays in your memory long after the jar is empty. So while this grow is absolutely a phenohunt and a full exploration of an unreleased genetic line, it’s also something more personal: A search for a terpene profile that feels like home.

MistaOC 25.05. D7 Week 1 — Fragile Beginnings Day 7 from Sprout | F026 — The Tropical Ice Cream One This run opened with more turbulence than expected. Out of the five seeds provided for the USA Genetics 2026 challenge, only three successfully sprouted — and even those three are not exactly charging out of the gate right now. At Day 7, the situation is honest and simple: These seedlings are still delicate. Growth has been slow so far, development feels somewhat fragile and this is clearly one of those early stages where patience matters more than ambition. Right now, this isn’t about explosive progress or fast vegetative growth. It’s about survival first. Stability first. The kind of beginning every grower eventually experiences at some point — where you stop thinking in weeks and start thinking leaf by leaf. Still, this is also where a real grow journey begins. Because anyone can document perfect plants under perfect conditions. But the true character of both genetics and grower usually reveals itself when things don’t start according to plan. For now, the focus remains extremely controlled: gentle environmental conditions, careful watering, minimal stress and simply trying to guide these young F026 plants safely into stronger root development. No rushing. No overcorrection. No panic. Just observation and patience. Despite their current condition, there are still small signs worth holding onto — subtle new growth, healthy coloration in parts of the canopy and moments where the plants seem to slowly settle in rather than decline further. It’s too early to know whether these girls are merely slow starters… or whether this genetic line simply demands a softer hand during early development. Either way, the mission remains the same: Keep them alive. Keep them stable. Give them the chance to reveal what hides inside the name: The Tropical Ice Cream One. Right now, this diary isn’t documenting perfection. It’s documenting the beginning of a fight.

MistaOC 31.05. Week 2 — The First Answer Day 13 from Sprout | F026 — The Tropical Ice Cream One Last week felt less like growing and more like waiting. Waiting for signs. Waiting for movement. Waiting for a reason to believe that this journey would continue beyond a difficult start. At Day 7, the outlook was uncertain. Three seedlings remained from the original five seeds, and even those survivors looked fragile. Growth was hesitant. Development felt slow. Every day became an exercise in restraint — resisting the urge to intervene, resisting the temptation to chase solutions, resisting the panic that every grower knows all too well. But plants have their own timeline. And sometimes the most important growth happens where we cannot see it. Today, at Day 13, the atmosphere inside the tent feels different. Not dramatically different. Not explosively different. Just… better. The three remaining F026 plants appear to have pushed through the most vulnerable phase of their young lives. New growth is becoming more consistent. Structure is beginning to establish itself. The overall energy feels stronger, more confident, less defensive. For the first time since germination, it feels like these plants are no longer simply surviving. They are beginning to grow. It would be easy to overlook this stage because nothing spectacular is happening yet. No towering canopies. No explosive side branching. No tropical terpene explosions. But experienced growers know these moments matter. Because every successful harvest begins with a plant deciding that it wants to live. And right now, these three seem to be making exactly that decision. The mission remains unchanged. No rushing. No forcing. No chasing numbers. The roots are still writing the story beneath the surface while the leaves quietly translate that progress above ground. As for F026 itself, the mystery remains intact. The name still hangs over this diary like a promise: The Tropical Ice Cream One. A name that continues to trigger visions of exotic fruit, creamy sweetness and something unique waiting deeper within the genetics. But those answers belong to another chapter. For now, this week is about something simpler. Relief. Not victory. Not success. Just relief. Because after a difficult beginning, these three survivors have finally given their first answer. And for the first time since this journey began, that answer feels hopeful.

MistaOC 08.06. Week 3 — The Genetics Begin to Speak Day 21 from Sprout | F026 — The Tropical Ice Cream One Three weeks into this journey, something subtle is beginning to happen. Not explosive growth. Not towering plants. Not the kind of progress that immediately jumps off the screen. Something far more interesting. For the first time, the three remaining F026 plants are starting to feel less like seedlings and more like individuals. After a difficult start and a cautious recovery, the overall mood inside the tent has changed completely. The uncertainty that defined the opening chapter of this diary is slowly fading into the background. These girls have found their footing. Looking at them today, I no longer see plants focused on survival. I see plants preparing for expression. And that’s where the real excitement begins. Because this stage is where genetics slowly start to whisper. One plant appears slightly more compact. Another seems eager to stretch a little further. Small differences in posture, leaf structure and growth rhythm are beginning to emerge. Nothing dramatic. Nothing conclusive. Just enough to remind me that every seed carries its own interpretation of the same genetic story. That’s one of the reasons I love growing from seed. At first, everything looks identical. Then, almost without noticing, personality begins to appear. The timing isn’t perfect, of course. If I’m being completely honest, these plants would have preferred a larger home a little earlier. Real life has been running at full speed lately, and the transplant simply had to wait. The girls have been patient. Maybe a little too patient. The smaller containers are clearly becoming the limiting factor now, and the plants are starting to hint that they’re ready for more room below the surface. Fortunately, that wait is almost over. Next week marks an important transition as the three survivors move into their final containers and BioTabs enters the picture. For me, this feels less like a transplant and more like the official start of the next chapter. The foundations have been built. The roots have done their work. Now it’s time to see what these genetics truly want to become. And somewhere in the back of my mind, the same question remains: Why was this cultivar given the name The Tropical Ice Cream One? Every day that question becomes a little more intriguing. Because right now, there are still no answers. Only possibilities. And honestly, that’s my favorite part of any hunt. The moment before the mystery begins to reveal itself. 💚

MistaOC 15.06. D28 Week 4 — Three Stories, One Mystery Day 28 from Sprout | F026 — The Tropical Ice Cream One A month ago, this diary started with five seeds and a simple question: What exactly is The Tropical Ice Cream One? Today, four weeks into the journey, I still don’t have the answer. But for the first time, I feel like the genetics are beginning to reveal fragments of their personality. The transplant week is behind us. The larger containers are finally in play. BioTabs have entered the system. And the response has been exactly what I hoped to see. Momentum. The two strongest plants immediately seemed to appreciate the extra room below the surface. Growth accelerated. Structure expanded. New shoots appeared with renewed confidence. It’s the kind of reaction every grower loves to witness. Not explosive. Not dramatic. Just healthy forward movement. The unmistakable sign that roots have found opportunity. But not every story develops at the same pace. One of the three girls is clearly having a more difficult conversation with her environment right now. While her sisters are settling comfortably into their new homes, she continues to search for her rhythm. Lighter coloration, slower development and a more hesitant appearance make her stand apart from the group. And strangely enough, I find myself paying the most attention to her. Because the strongest plants rarely teach you anything. The struggling ones do. Every grow eventually reaches a point where observation becomes more important than intervention. This feels like one of those moments. No panic. No chasing problems. No aggressive corrections. Just patience, consistency and trust in the process. Because despite her struggles, she is still moving forward. And forward is all that matters. What’s becoming increasingly fascinating is how differently these three sisters are beginning to express themselves. The uniformity of the seedling stage is gone now. Individual structure is emerging. Different growth habits are emerging. Different attitudes are emerging. The same genetic blueprint. Three different interpretations. And somewhere hidden inside those differences lies the answer I’ve been chasing since Day One. The reason this cultivar carries such an unforgettable name. The Tropical Ice Cream One. For now, the tent feels less like a grow room and more like a waiting room for discovery. The roots are expanding. The canopy is building. The personalities are forming. And while one girl may still be fighting her own battle, all three continue to move this story forward. One week at a time. One leaf at a time. One clue at a time.

MistaOC 19.06. D32 Week 5 — The Turning Point Day 32 from Sprout This week feels different. Not because of a huge growth explosion or some dramatic change overnight, but because the plants finally seem settled. Looking back at where this run started, that’s honestly a pretty good feeling. A month ago I was dealing with a disappointing germination rate, then a slow start, followed by a period where I was constantly wondering if these girls would ever really get going. The transplant happened later than planned, life got busy, and for a while it felt like the whole grow was running one step behind schedule. Now, standing in front of the tent, that feeling is gone. The roots have clearly found their space. The BioTabs system is doing its thing. And the plants are finally starting to show some momentum. What’s becoming interesting is how different the three survivors are beginning to look. They’re all F026, they’re all growing in the same environment, yet each one seems to be developing its own personality. The plant in the front has become a real eye-catcher over the last week. Darker foliage, compact structure and strong side growth. She has that look growers immediately notice when opening the tent. The others are developing well too, although in slightly different ways. One is building a broader frame, while another still feels like she’s playing catch-up after her difficult start. That’s probably my favourite part of growing from seed. At first you’re growing plants. A few weeks later you’re growing individuals. The original question behind this diary hasn’t changed though. I picked F026 purely because the name spoke to me. Out of all four test strains, “The Tropical Ice Cream One” sounded closest to the kind of terpene profile I personally love. Back then it was nothing more than a guess. Today it’s still a mystery. No obvious tropical notes yet. No ice cream. No clues. Just healthy plants, strong growth and the feeling that we’re finally getting to the stage where the genetics can start showing what they’re really about. For the first time since this grow started, I feel like we’re no longer trying to catch up. We’re exactly where we need to be. And that’s why this week feels like a turning point.
