Welcome Back to the Seedsman and sweet basil Diary 28th August 2019 ๐
Things Are not how they seem .............. Even tho the plant looks quite green and healthy she has had a case of
Root rot for the last week, but I've been managing the problem by using hydrogen peroxide daily.
This however is only a band aid solution and today after taking these pictures I removed 60% of the root mass that had
turned brown and mushy. I then washed the remaining roots in a bucket of water with some H2O2 and 5mls of
pure bleach. After this I put her back into a weak solution of rainwater with Superthrive ph'd to 5.7 .
I hope this keeps her alive until some root repair and rot preventative solution arrives in the Post.
For those wondering how I knew there was a problem before looking at the roots .. I noticed the plant looked like
she was wilting from overwatering. And being in a permanent solution I instinctively knew she was having problems
below . ie the root rot was making it hard for the plant to breathe and absorb nutrients and water properly.
Now for the Sweet basil report..
Absolutely gone nuts since last week and the change of nutes I gave it. ๐ช๐ช
Take a look at the pics above at how much I harvested!! I am sending this lot into the local aged care house for
the chefs to use in their cooking.
I will let this plant keep producing until it carks it or the seedsman plant gets harvested then I'll probably raise
another batch of fresh seedlings and begin the cycle all over again.
Thats about it for this week I will update when things develop. ๐๐๐
@ROM101, yes I use that one too but as good as it is I just can't bring myself to use it indoors with the hydro
because as you said it does stink like a dead fishes asshole ๐ bit like fresh dynamic lifter on a hot day Nothing Like it ๐๐
@DILLIGAF, they do a power feed as well it comes in a red bottle it's some super potent shit and smells like a dead fishes arsehole but it works amazing on vegies๐๐
@ROM101, thanks mate it tested my patience thats for sure
I think if I wasnt doing a diary on it I would have chopped it awhile back but should end up with something out of it
Hahahaha I saw the cover picture and thought that it looked like basil :P
I've got so much room in my tent (only 1 light right now) and am considering filling it with herbs/veggies.
I didn't even realise this was another one of your diaries! Hahaha happy growing again!
@DILLIGAF, that's quite the difference. I guess that's why the guys I was reading about used marigold, it handles from 6.0-7.5. It probably likes the nutrients more too being a flowering plant.
@Cheezy, I wouldn't plant the basil in with the weed simply because the basil likes a ph of 6.7 - 7.2 and
your weed likes it down around 6.2 -6.5 plus the basil only has fairly low nutrient needs
@DILLIGAF, that's good to know! Our house plants in the living room have attracted so many aphid looking things, thinking about letting loose a bag of ladybugs!
With the basil do you have to plant it in the same container? I've read companion planting marigold in this manner also increases resin production!
I love basil in a fresh eggplant parmesan or even Alfredo .I've only cooked once with weed oil olive in a past was blasted didn't like how strong I had made it lol learned a hard lesson . Anyways the girl looks very healthy in its home there..
