Strain
So today was decision day in the garden. This gal has been battling a moderate case of powdery mildew since the beginning of August. High humidities, poor circulation and night temperatures as low as 13c and morning dew all contributed to the problem. I did my best to defoliate, and I went as far as spraying with a mixture of H2O2 and water, to slow it's progression. So I checked the trichomes today and most were milky with a few clear and a few amber, so I decided to pull the trigger. I would normally do a two week flush and 48 hours of darkness, but I was getting nervous about the PM going past the point of no return so I forwent my usual routine.
When growing outdoors, PM or not, I think budwashing is an imperative step in the harvesting process. I do a four bucket system. First bucket is 200ml of 3% H2O2 to 5 gallons of water. Second bucket is 1 cup baking soda, 1 cup lemon juice to 5 gallons of water. The final two buckets are just filled with room temp tap water. I do this not only to kill and remove PM, but I find lots of dead bugs, spiders and bits environmental debris. I have never had a problem with potency or flavor after doing this. All most every trace of PM was gone after the wash and whatever is left will get trimmed off once it's dry.
At the end of the trim I smoked a nice lump of scissor hash and it was delicious, not to mention it sent me into a different dimension.
I don't do wet weights so once I know I'll add dry weight to this diary, but it looks like a pretty good haul.
