Oh for anyone that wants to know how I cured the root rot and Pythia. I went the sterilization route. I added 28ml (1ml/gallon) of Clorox bleach to the control tank around wk 3 to kill the initial phythia and root rot. Killed all of it within 24 hours. And since then I’ve used 14ml (.5ml/gallon) once per week for preventative maintenance. Not a single issue since.

@The40thieves, I have seen plants thrive in swimming pool water, which you’d think would kill them at 2-5ppm chlorine and no nutrients. Everything needs a little chlorine, and plants have built a resistance to it. To kill algae we have to take it to 35ppm. In hydro a little chlorine is your friend. Enjoy your harvest

@The40thieves, it csn get confusing because too much of a nutrient can block out other nutrients and especially dwc has to have a lot of oxygen it is easy to damage roots. That is why it is important to know what your ppm is at all times and keep it below max. Because if you know the nutrients are there but showing deficiencies then that points you in the direction that your roots are not absorbing them. It is always a process of elimination. Too much nitrogen and the plant cant absorb cal mag for example. Like I said before less is more with nutrients. Im running 2 decent size six shooters on .75 tsp maxibloom and .5 tsp calmag per gallon and they are still heavy on nitrogen due the them not using very much. I hope that makes sense lol

@Wicked_Stix, fantastic info. I definitely haven’t experienced any calmag excess. And I haven’t seen calcium deficiency either. The only problem I’ve run into aside from that early pythium is the occasional magnesium deficiency. Even then it usually begins to show itself about Day 6 or 7 into the week right before the next feed, so it’s telling me that it’s eating all the cal mag during the week and running out just before the end. Then I get to the feed day, and then I’m good for another 6-7 days before I start seeing some mag deficiency again. That’s why I ask about calmag. These plants can’t seem to get enough of it even though I KNOW I’m running hot.

@The40thieves, Magnesium excess will show up as a really dark green/purple almost black it the veins of the leaves. Calcium excess is harder to pinpoint because it shows up just like most nutrient burn. It will burn from the tips back into the leaves turning them brown and yellow. Both usually show up in the older leaves first. As far as the mag deficiency on the lower leaves. If you post some close up pics there are a lot of helpful people here that will take a look at it.

@The_Projexx, thanks. That was the one thing I paid special attention to. I really want to maximize my 1000hps, so I made a concentrated effort to get a good canopy so none of my light hits the floor. I’ve heard autos have much lower yields. But my hypothesis is you can get comparable yields to a photo of you maximize the canopy of the autos. So we’ll see how the test plays out!

@Homegrown420, thank you. It’s my first grow, but I find I really enjoy the whole growing process. I’ve never done gardening of any type before so it’s cool to learn a new skill. It’s been kinda like a new video game.

Actually that’s the strange thing and what prompted my question: In my RDWC, I’m seeing ZERO burned tips. Which is really strange cause everything I’ve been led to understand says they should be burned to hell. But check it, I have two small autos 4 weeks behind the rest of the crop as my bumper crop growing in perlite and vermiculite, and with very weak nutes, I’m seeing some burned tips on them, but in the plants sitting at 2300ppm, nothing. They are happy as can be. Eating roughly 1000-1200 ppm per week, when it’s my understanding it should be around 500. It’s really stumped me. I’m wary about going higher any higher than 2300 ppm, but at 2300 the plants seem to like it a lot. As for the clawing. That was an early problem I had because of lack of AC. My temps were constant 85+ and I developed a case of phythia around wk 2 or 3 that killed one seedling and spread to two other tanks before I got it under control. Once I did though and got my environmental controls squared away, I haven’t had a problem with the clawing since. The plants were a little stunted, but they have for the most part recovered. I use RO water and the plants cant seem to get enough of the cal mag. The only damage I really see is minor magnesium deficiency in the lower canopy. I’ll start to throttle down the nutes for wk 9 and 10. Then consider flushing wk 11 or 12 depending on how it looks. One of the plants in the DWC is two weeks behind the rest, so I might push the 5 other plants to 14 weeks, so the 6th plant will be at wk 12 and I can harvest all of them together. My hypothesis for yield is : 1lb-1.5lbs.
