Germinated some bag seed from a most excellent dispensary find of Gorilla Glue #4! So I don’t know the parents, sex or phenotype of these seeds, but let’s hope they are potent girls!
Thanks for having a look! Even though this is week 5 I started the collective grow diary with freshly germinated seeds and I was away for 12 days with the light way too far away, so these plants are catching up a bit. This is really more like week 2 or 3 in terms of development.
Please note this is my second grow!
Pots: Transplanted from .5 L airpots and solo cups into 1 gal fabric pots. I wish they were a bit deeper and larger. I intend to move them into 5 gal equivalent air pots before bloom. Some minor root spiraling occurred in the solo cups. I'm happy to have transplanted now as much later may have created a root ball. I'm curious about the fabric pots and chose them out of economy.
Soil: I used 4 gallons EB Stone Emerald Triangle Recipe 420 soil augmented with 1 gallon perlite, 1/2 gallon organic worm castings, 1/2 gallon rinsed coco coir, 2 cups greensand and 1/2 cup of diatomaceous earth. I top dressed the pots with Growstone Gnatnix as fungus gnats are pervasive here even though I don't over water.
Nutrients and such: adding mycorrhizae, humic acids, and root microbes have definitely helped rapidly develop the plants and roots. I'm seeing some purple stems which is magnesium deficiency from using bottled spring water. Using CalMag to correct.
Light: I added my second Viparspectra 300 as the space is filling out. 2 VIPARSPECTRA 300 @ 136 W each. These are well reviewed full spectrum LEDs.
Training:I FIM'd the apical top leaves after the 3rd node and when the stems seemed solid to encourage branching.
Environment: 2 fans and a homemade swamp cooler to keep temperatures and humidity in range. I keep the space open.
ABOUT Gorilla Glue #4
"Gorilla Glue #4, developed by GG Strains, is a potent hybrid strain that delivers heavy-handed euphoria and relaxation, leaving you feeling “glued” to the couch. Its chunky, resin-covered buds fill the room with pungent earthy and sour aromas inherited from its parent strains, Chem’s Sister, Sour Dubb, and Chocolate Diesel. Taking first place in both the Michigan and Los Angeles 2014 Cannabis Cups as well as the High Times Jamaican World Cup, this multiple award-winning hybrid's supremacy is no longer a secret, and consumers will search far and wide to get their hands sticky with Gorilla Glue #4.
Grow Techniques: Gorilla Glue #4 will do wonders with a SCROG (screen of green) style grow as the plants will be fast to fill your garden space, especially if grown hydroponically. Giving all the buds equal chance for full sunlight will guarantee the entire plant reaches its peak potential while supporting its beautiful colas. Because Gorilla Glue #4 came from a hermaphroditic plant, so be aware that pollen sacs can develop from this strain.
Flowering Time: 8-9 weeks
Yield: Moderate to high
Grow Difficulty: Moderate
Climate: Moderate climates between 68 and 85 degrees Fahrenheit. Keep humidity down while flowering to help against mold. Colder temperatures will also increase trichome production towards the end of flowering.
Indoor/Outdoor: Gorilla Glue #4 can be grown both indoors and outdoors successfully. Trichomes are naturally water repellant, so this crystallized strain always has a raincoat on while flowering.
Feeding: Try using potassium silicate-rich foods that will help strengthen the plant as these buds develop."
- Leafly review
A lot of growth this week! The largest plant of 3 is about 8-10 days ahead of the smaller two. The largest has been a joy.
It’s been hot in the daytime so I’m running a swamp cooler which also raises the humidity favorably.
I'm seeing some prior deficiencies in the lowest leaves and a little nibbling but I am not concerned about either. I'm using SM-90 as foliar spray with neem oil every 3 days. My shower grow is in a bathroom with a small open window facing my outside garden, but I suspect the spider who lives in the window lets some little bugs past.
I pinched/FIMed some but am letting the plants grow and will do some more shaping when it's more established.
If you have constructive suggestions and help, this is only my second grow--please feel welcome to comment! I'm not sensitive about criticism--I am here to improve my grow.
Most Images taken in natural lighting or under an incandescent clip light
Updating late with images taken last Thursday (update day). I laid off nutes aside from CalMag as the plants were looking a bit dark. I’m thinking this one is due soon for a bigger pot and some LST besides topping. Raised my lights 2” because I was seeing light burn. The smell of this plant is already delicious.
Getting back to Thursday updates. I knocked a couple weeks off this diaries because of slow growth while I was away for 2 weeks and had my lights too far but I have edit this to reflect reality. I’m not trying to be deceptive but wanted to give an accurate picture of where the plants should be at, but I am realizing nature has a mind of its own when it comes to time and there is no “should be” just what is.
First a few words about the little scrappy Gorilla Glue plants. They are about 10 days behind. I believe they are stunted further by potassium heavy soil or a ph imbalance. I have tried keeping them further away from light, putting them closer, and most recently, flushing thoroughly. But this is bagseed so it’s possible that I’m dealing with genetics. The other Gorilla Glue is a rock star, a female one, I hope.
I did some creative pipe cleaner LST and mild and gradual defoliation to shape, while continuing to top.
Each plant has been getting an individual diet based on how the leaves are looking, but I have kept nutrients minimal because they are just on their 3rd week after transplanting and should be using what’s in the soil.
Using bottled spring water with CalMag and using about 1 tsp of homemade plain green tea kombucha as acidic ph down when needed. I intend to tranplant into 5 gal equivalent air pots in the next week or two. I do like the smart (fabric) pots, though. They don’t retain water , drain really well, and make no mess. All the soil stays in the bag when flushing. We’ll see how the roots look!
I had to raise the lights another 1” due to plant growth.
Foliar spraying with SM90 plus neem oil about 1x week and Safer soap spray (only soap, no pyrethrins) every 3 day due to some mild bug munching, I believe, or maybe I’m being paranoid. Just say no to bugs!
Southern California is warm and dry this week. Stepping up Cal-Mag this week as my plants are looking much better with using it more aggressively. I believe any burns are from the soil, however I flushed the two scrappy glues, starting adding some light grow nutrients, but at lower ppm than above.Every watering now has Cal-Mag and root microbes in my water from a jug. I’m watering every other day approximately, as it has been hot and these cloth pots dry out fast. I’m adding nitrients only when the leaves start to lighten back up, about once a week.
All plants got some pipe cleaner LST and a leg shave
Gorilla glues: the scrappy little ones got a thorough flushing then Cal-Mag, nutrients, microbes and a few days later, a defoliation. I adjusted their light to 13” and am hoping for the best. The big one continues to be a rock star. Unfortunately I’m having difficulty determining sex.
Southern California simmered in weather advisory level heat this last week with temperatures over 100 F even in coastal areas. I ran a DIY bucket swamp cooler to lower heat to 87-90 F in the space while raising the humidity.
I also chose to transplant just before the heat really intensified, probably in good service of the plants. I transplanted the largest of the Gorilla Glue and left the other two until the balance of my airpots arrived then headed south to San Diego for 4 days, leaving my adult spawn to care for my plants with strict instructions of bottled ro water plus a measured amount of Cal- Mag. When I returned, the heat wave had ended and the largest plant exploded with growth over just 4 days.
On transplant I continue to use EB Stone Formula 420 Soil ammended with approximately 1/2 gallon of perlite and a handful of worm castings per 3.5 gallon pot. I took time to thoroughly break up compacted soil with my hands, moistened the soil with ro water plus Cal-Mag, humic acid and root microbes. I made a hole for the plant, sprinkled with mycorrhizae and microbes and snuggling the roots in. The roots on all 3 plants looked nicely developed. I believe the transplant should also reverse some of the miniaturized growth.
My transplant was much easier thanks to a tip from @GardenofAutos who slips her airpots into a pair of pantyhose to help contain dirt that escapes through the holes. Just tie off the legs and voila, your plants are stylin’!
3 Gorilla Glue plants. One is a lovely queen of the jungle but the other two are odd little beasts. The little ones got transplanted on 10/29. The larger one got transplanted on 10/22.
I wasn’t able to identify preflowers so I guess we shall get a verdict when I flip the lights.
Topdressed with gnatnix. Prophylactically spraying with neem & soap.
Updating late as I was ill, traveling and a bit depressed. I was also dealing with an infestation of spidermites that I believe came on something fierce after the heat wave a couple weeks ago.
I went to the garden store and picked up some spinosad, sulfur, pyrethrums, and used it along with neem oil & soap.
Things got seriously ugly and I didn’t take a lot of photos.
It’s so warm today! Of course I pulled all my plants out to spray with spinosad and feed/water.

I use a Hudson 2L sprayer. My partner used to work in the film industry and they found this brand of sprayer gets the most thorough even coverage for makeup or whatever movie magic they use sprayers to create. It’s great.

The larger gorilla glue has come around but I lost a few nodes. I’m seeing a little PMD, but I’ve been knocking it back when baking soda and water. I’ve been taking scalps, defoliating the big one gently and the little ones need almost daily lollipopping. I’m watching my ph and using more cal mag. I definitely feel like they are two different phenotypes.I have them on individual diets.
**********
Some fungal gnats come with the humidity so I topdressed with gnat nix. I don’t believe I overwater so I hope that’s the solution! I think I may wait another week or two and get things more stable before moving to flower. I will update video tomorrow when I have access to faster upload speeds.

Added videos!
Just trying to get back to normal life after the Thomas fire.
I believe I have two phenotypes of some gorilla glue lineage as the seed came from a very tasty dispensary quarter. Even though the little ugly plants look grotesque, they are loaded with bud sites. I have photos and videos and notes of the past few weeks so I will try to back annotate.
Gradually ramped light down from 18 hours to 12 after power outages due to the fire, and it was about good time to flip anyway.
It is so much easier to control temperature during the winter in my space. The lights keep the space at a pretty steady 74 F.
I haven’t pushed PPM and am keeping Ph in the 6-6.8 range.
I’m using peony rings as support and to spread a little but I am not training for a perfectly flat canopy as I had excellent popcorn nugs in my last grow even with the lights over 2x further than optimal.
Defoliated the lower branches but I am not defoliating aggressively, but will continue to remove any withering leaves.
Sorry for the slow updates. The fire has been pretty traumatic for my city and myself, and I’m just getting back to normal life. My home, family and pets are safe, and the fire is mostly contained.
Thank you for checking out my diary. Happy holidays and I hope Santa Ja brings you a giant tree!
Gorilla Glue bagseed on right and left. I’m rotating plants to even out exposure to light. Flowering nicely. Plants are taking .5 gallons of water every 2-3 days. Added more gnatnix, yellow sticky traps and beneficial nematodes to control fungus gnats.
Shorter plants 13”, larger is 18”.
Beneficial nematodes and the sticky trap seem to have handled the gnat issue. I’m continuing to use nematodes after watering, and the traps will remain.
I did a little trimming but probably won’t do much more defoliation until the stretch is over.
This will probably be my last shower grow. I think it makes more sense to get a bigger space like a tent or build one and some more lights. It’s getting cramped in there. It’s also starting to reek.
I water about every 2-3 days using a 1/2 gallon jug to mix my nutes. I’m keeping ph close to 6.5 and ppms between 600-800. I don’t use nutes in every watering—it depends on how the plants look.
I do more frequent updates on Instagram @thefairybudmother.
The smell has gone from fresh lemon nut cake to lemony skunk.
The little scraggly plants have the stickiest resins coming on and are showing some light orange hairs with the light yellow.
Defoliation on Monday to create better airflow and improve exposure through the plants to the light. If this is week 4-5, I am excited to see what comes next. Stacking up nicely.
Mostly bud images. Gorilla glue are now in the front mostly because they are raised up and it’s a bitch to move them in the back. Smells disgusting. I take it as a good sign!
The big one is really sour and skunky. The one with the tiny buds smells hashy, and the medium one lemony. The big one is taking 3-4 gallons/week. Fired up the carbon filter to contain the reek.
Applied more nematodes to deal with gnats.
3 plants, 3 different looking kinds of buds. I harvested a test bud. They definitely need another week or two. On the biggest plant leaves are starting to fade. The scent has gone from being unpleasantly sour to a little more sweetly skunky. One of the smaller plants smells more like girl scout cookies, and the third is mostly citrus. Alternating plain watering with molasses plus Terpinator.
I harvested my gorilla glue plants on 2-19. The have been partially trimmed and are hanging to slowly dry in a cardboard box except for the spindly one which fell over a couple weeks ago and got covered in dirt and top dressing. I have been water curing the buds and will be using them to make cannabutter which will have any remaining matter strained out of it. I will post a harvest report once I have a dry weight probably next week. This has been an interesting fun grow. Thanks for following!
Gorilla Glue # 4 is one of those 50/50 hybrids that really kicks my pain down. This is bagseed so we don’t know the genetics (Gorilla Glue), let alone phenotype (#) but it’s from a quality jar of reputable dispensary Gorilla Glue #4 bud. I believe I had 2-3 phenotypes: one plant was pretty big and stretchy while the other two were spindly and miniaturized. However of the two spindly ones, one was pretty similar in terpenes to the larger plant and all became frosty. I accidentally toppled the smallest plant so I washed and water cured it, following a tutorial on Grow Weed Easy.
The two similarly scented plants I cured in the same jars. Something about the scent reminds me of pickles or mustard. I am using new jars. It smelled really sour like skunky vomit during the grow, so these food scents are an improvement. The third plant which was water cured has purple buds and smells cloves (hello myrcene terps) and lavender.
Well I got 3/3 girls with bagseed. I nearly lost the larger plant to transplant stress but she recovered beautifully and yeilded heavily. It’s been a loooong grow but I decided not to let anyone rush me and to do right by the plants. 114gram total with my other plants—see my Ice Bomb diary.
The water cured buds are very smooth to smoke if a bit small and ugly, taste like cloves and gives a nice relaxing body buzz. Still waiting on the cure for the jar cured bigger buds to try. I wish I had cloned my larger plant. It was beautiful to grow.
Smoke report for the jar cured buds. It tastes like a christmas tree, one of the expensive fluffy trees and beer. I hate Christmas, I hate the smell of christmas trees, but I love this weed. I love beer but I cannot drink it. If this weed makes me like Christmas, I’m going to be pissed.
@Tistou, I have ADSL where I live so I try to update when I’m at my boyfriend’s place where he has upload bandwidth! I find video gives a much better sense of the scale and health of the plants.
