Hey all! I’m back for another grow, this time I’ll be trying a seed I got for free from Canuck seeds called “blueberry”. I am going to try to manifold this plant so stay tuned and let’s see what happens!

Well she has been above ground for about 3 days now. This seed germinated very quickly, literally in 12 hrs she started opening up. I left her in paper towel till I had an acceptable tap root and then planted her in a 5 gallon pot, tap root facing down. Some ppl are against planting seedlings in big pots but I have done this before and it works fine for me, less stress with replanting just have to make sure you have you are watering correct. I start with nutrients at 1/2 normal strength because my soiless medium needs the boost. Keep a spray bottle for a couple sprays a day and my temp swing is crazy right now because we’re having hot days cold nights and my furnace is still off. Honestly I’ve grown with crazy day/night swings before and don’t believe it’s detrimental. Long story short, she’s doing well and first couple weeks aren’t very exciting. Waiting for about 6 nodes till I start the manifolding/mainlining process, that should be fun..........haha

Two full weeks and now starting the third week, everything is going fine. It’s up to four full nodes now, almost five. I’ll be starting my manifold at 6 nodes so within this next week. I will document it so everyone can see.

Third week is over and now she has been topped and the manifold has been started. Topped after third node and then cleaned out everything below the third node. Only thing left are the two fan leaves of the third node. Let’s see how quick she can recover!!!

Final topping and lst to create 8 colas, this will be the final topping and will now veg out for a while to flip to flower 8 large buds. It’s a work in progress. It’s also getting full nutes now.

She is recovering ok from her last topping. Just re-strung some twist ties to spread out the colas a little more. It’s almost at the point I want now and can just start going vertical. I won’t veg too much longer I don’t think.

Still just training to a 10 inch ring. As soon as they are outside the ring I will flip to flower and let them stretch up, see what happens.......... still using AN grow nutes full strength. Update: released lst ties and secured the 10 inch ring so the plant can not pick it up when going vertical. All branches are now under the 10inch ring.

Grow Questions

Hi everyone, anyone have any suggestions on when to put this little beauty into flower? I’ve never grown such a small plant and I’m not going for quantity here just quality. On one hand I’m thinking I could flower right now at 8 weeks but I also do not have experience mainlining.

since you mainlined you could / should probably veg her a bit longer just so she completes her vegetation stretch anywhere from weeks 9 to 12 you can flip, i mean i dont think a bit more yield will compromise your quality, and it's plenty worth it to get that biomass going

Pretty much all done with training and major defoliation. After much thought and input from some awesome growers I’ve decided to base my 12/12 flip on harvest time. I’d like to harvest around jan 1st so at approx 9 week flowering period I will probably veg one more week and then flip to flower. This blueberry from Canuck seeds seems very resilient, I have cut the nutrients down by half by recommendation and it seems to be a little happier. All in all, the hard work is done and now it’s time to watch her grow up! Update: tomorrow will be the start of week 9 and I think I’ve convinced myself to start flowering. She’s growing very vigorously.

Week nine first day of flower! Going to water just before lights out with just 2L of straight water. She is starting to smell pretty average, drinking a lot and she needs more defoliation. I’m guessing over 9 week flower but will go by trichs.

Second week of flowering. She’s taking nearly 2 litres of drink everyday, starting to really smell great too! Tiny bit of clawing after starting flowering nutrients, dialed it back a bit hopefully that’s all it was.

Did another defoliation last week. This week is going to be mostly just let it go. Got rid of that small clawing issue I think my nutrients were just a tad high. Update: more defoliation at day 20 flower.

Week 4 or flower has started, day 22 I did what was hopefully the last defoliation. This plant was bushy, probably would have done well with no training at all. Now it should be hands off till harvest I’m hoping.

She’s starting to bulk up. Still about one litre a day back and forth from just water to nutrients day by day. Really stinky now but I wouldn’t say it smells like blueberries.

Things are going well, pistils are changing colour, maybe 25% have turned. Buds are still bulking up, and are rock hard already. Might start thinking about flushing with just water for the rest of her life which I’m thinking will be 2 to 3 more weeks. Smells great but once again I don’t smell blueberry nor is the plant even slightly blue.......... I’m guessing it will taste like blueberries? Only time will tell I guess. Update: getting very frosty, still clear trichomes.

Still clear trichomes, thought it would be almost done by now. I was wrong she might actually go a lot longer, have to wait and see. Been on just water for a week now, it’s getting cold at night and I think that is turning the sugar leaves and the stems of the plant a purple colour. Buds are big and dense, smell is very strong sort of sweet.

Just finished 3 days of darkness, trichs are 50% amber and cut all 8 mains and hung them whole. Temps stay at 15 Celsius night and day with 15% humidity. The buds are huge, I think they will take over a week maybe even over 10 days to be able to dry trim and then jar up with some boveda packs. Next journal entry I should have trim pics and some final dry weights. This plant really matured fast, it was basically a week and she showed quickly when she was ready. Only now does it smell somewhat like blueberries. Update: raised humidity to 45% for the rest of the drying process upon recommendation from a fellow grower. Update: trimmed after 8 days hanging, divided into big buds/colas, regular buds and trim. I’ll use the trim for olive oil but will not be including it in the final weight. Jarred it all up with 62%RH boveda packs and will get a final weight when the buds reach that 62%RH.

So got about 5 and a half ounces which was really good for such a small plant. The mainlining technique I used made it extremely simple to trim these buds because most of them were so large there really wasn’t that many of them. Just 8 branches about a foot in length each as you can see from the pic of them hang drying. All in all I would use this technique again for some simple high quality buds BUT...... if you’re going for yield and don’t want to spend 18 weeks on a plant I would stick to good old lst or scrog would be the best bang for your buck. Love the growdiaries.com community lots of help from other members, personal messages sharing tips and tricks and just an overall welcoming group of like minded people. This is my second diary and I cannot wait to start the third! Thanks for stopping by and best wishes to the whole community.

I personally would definitely not recommend full dosage of any ferts. The key is to let them grow not to push them to grow, what I've learned. Usually less is more to some point. Some clawing is happening there. Too much Nitrogen seems to be the problem.. Otherwise she seems very healthy 👍

@amazongrow, thanks! The technique I used was manifold or mainlining if you look it up that should help you with making a smaller plant like this one! Also a powerful light helps if yours are stretching too much.

Hey Jonny, Personally I think 15% humidity is very low for drying, I read that 50-55% is best 😊 you need some moisture in the buds for bacteria to break down the chlorophyll, so you don’t get that hay taste/smell
Johnnyronco
Johnnyroncocommented5 years ago
@NuggetPawn, thanks for the advice! I actually thought the same thing and a few days ago raised the humidity to 45% I’ll include the pic in the diary with the temp/humidity.
