has anyone ever ripened the tops in a vase of water? I havested the tops of the plants, as the weather has turned cold and wet... some of the tops looked like they could use a bit more ripening, so I cut the lower buds off, and set the stalks into water,as I would any cut flower.

Hi @Simplyfly! I've never heard of this with our favorite plant, but this works for roses 😄 I wouldn't do this with the result of months of labour, since too much water in the buds can lead to mold very quickly. Just focus on good drying and good curing. Also, maybe you should consider a tomato-roof or a greenhouse for your next run. Enjoy your harvest! 👊

No I haven't the way to ripen buds faster is to give more dark period than light. So instead of 12/12 for the last week of flowering go with 10/14. Could even do 9/15. This will trigger the plant to finish cuz winter is coming.

I have never heard of anyone trying this. If the trichomes on the buds were mostly cloudy/milky with some amber colored one you should be fine. It may give you more of a head high. Usually I use a 40 x jewelers loupe(Amazon.com) to check the trichomes most growers will take them with 5% to 30% amber trichome for more of a body high depends on what you like. Hope this helps.👍

I would lighten up on the watering and let them dry out a bit before you water them again obviously not to the point where they wilt. Notice the leaves are drooping down this is a sign of over watering. 5.8-6.2 ph is best for the roots to absorb nutrients. 5.8 to 6.5 is OK also. If you re-pot in the future I would add some extra perlite to your mix for better drainage and to give the roots more oxygen.👍

Sounds sensible. Trichomes continue to mature after harvest, and plants respond to thirst late in flower by increasing oil production. If you put cut flowers inwater you’d be confusing the process? A little ? I don’t know. Just speculating.

Placing the buds in cold water with a bubler... only the stem's are sunmerged, the buds are above the water line. Over night the leaves stood back up.. then the buds began to swell... added a bit of apple butter to the water... over night the buds filled out drastically, and became super tight. I added a bit of H20 and peroxide to the apple water and left them one more night. This morning I cut the buds from the stems, and placed them in the drying rack... So it seems to me that this method worked to allow me to move the tops from the nasty cold outdoors, and ripen them inside
