*Note
The bud the seed was sold in was sold as an Amnesia Haze but the leaf shape is more indica in structure then an Amnesia Haze would be, where as I managed to find examples of strains like Gorilla Glue that match the leaf structure and node length almost perfectly.*
*Seems to just be coincidence! The process stays.
Decided I would give coco growing a go and I will grow it in the wardrobe for a week (or when the NL is done drying(literally moved to the tent Sunday)) before placing it in the tent.
I wish to wait one more week and switch to flower, like 12-12 from seed except 12-12 from sprout. With a flower time of 10-11 weeks I don't wish to keep her grow too large.
I pre-treated the coco with the cocktail of the listed nutrients.
Week 1:
Mon.
Tap root is fully visable so let's get her in and rooted. Germation started on the previous Saturday.
Wed.
She's standing above the coco now!
Sun.
The game plan is to veg her only for a week or two then try to clone/flower.
Not wanting a large plant this time.
Monday.
Nothing special to report, the plants taking some time to grow compared to my first grow. Which I believe is a result of the seed itself being on the whiter side and a product of herming.
But at the same time it looks like it's doing fine.
Though surprisingly her leaves are seemingly fairly stout so far, which makes me question her strains lineage.
Thu.
So yes her leaves are very stout, I'm doubtful that she's an Amnesia Haze but we have ages to find out.
The coco isn't the most stable of ground but I may have used too little, after a few watering sessions she drifted to the corner of the pot.
Sat.
This grow is going to be very different to the last as the genetics are suppose to be fairly apposing and I am also trying to take a more hands on approach to actively increase my yields as just leaving the Northern Lights left me with 60% leaves and 40% bud per cola.
I would like to change that around.
Mon:
Pinched the stem hopefully that can help support the cola's. I plan to have these ones to be quite heavy.
Wed:
Her growth is slower then expected. I will up the dose of the A&B nutes to 1.4ml, CalMag to 1ml and Rhizotonic to 0.7ml.
Fri:
Seems to have done the ticket. Just need to up the dosages a tad every now and then 😅 who would have thought?
Sat:
Topped her early morning (3am) and fed her soon after with 1.4mls of Rhizotonic to help her bounce back from stress.
Sun:
Sorry for the poor quality photos.
I'll be flipping her to flowering schedule tomorrow seeing as she has bounced back from the stress fairly well and I don't wish to have a prolonged veg phaze again.
Mon.
Switching to flowering schedule, I am also going to water twice daily but feed once in the morning.
Tue.
I am using left over Bio•Bloom and Top•Max until the Canna Accelerator and Bloom Booster turn up.
Wed.
Changed the diary to reflect the more then likely strain over what she was advitised.
I believe she lines up with Gorilla Glue (Large broad deep ridged leaves) or any other Indica dominant strain.
Sat.
Forgot to feed her Friday night but she seemed alright just extra thirsty in the morning.
I accidently snapped the top most node from the very best the stalk split in two and decided to v out caused it to snap under a small amount of pressure while trying to flatten her out to make better use of the space.
I'm not pruning her just yet despite the leaves being obnoxiously large due to my running understanding on now plant growth works, more leaves + surface area = faster growth so I don't want to stunt her growth since she has few leaves anyway.
Obviously snapping off whole sections won't help either, thankfully the transition just started so I have a bit of wriggle room!
Mon.
Growth is phenomenal, accidently snapped a large fan leaf...
I am prone to messing up it seems.
Wed.
Bio•Bloom and Top•Max have been switched out for the Canna Accelerator and Canna PK 13/14
No change in preflower development.
Thu.
There is a slight but still potent musky smell emanating from her.
Sat.
First preflowers are now forming I hope! Almost two weeks into the three week stretch!
Mon.
Flowering week three starts today. Hopefully this doesn't turn out to be a male 😅
Note on diary layout.
I decided to use the 3rd week of flowering as the first week of flowering instead when she was flipped to a flowering schedule as I saw no preflowers and the transitional three weeks are more of a vegetative state than a flowering state.
Tue.
Only just noticed what looks like pest damage on a few leaves. Throughout Sunday the power cable to my exaust fan was disconnected and the reletive humidity in there was 90 with 29°C temps. So that's what's caused that problem...
Fri.
Looks like it's final height is now achieved. I've taken two lower leaves and one branch that was starting to fade. Placed it in the hopeful root bottle, It wouldn't hurt getting another plant to just flower the moment its rooted xD
The defoliation technique employed is light but calculated.
Mon.
The budlets are starting to gain girth as the lower buds sites start developing.
Wed.
Upped the dosages a tad and will lower them next week. Just squeeze out the last bits of growth potential.
Thu.
Not much to say other then the bud development has been explosive, I am taking one or two leaves when I see them covering any lower inner bud sites.
Mon.
Week 5 of flowering.
Her smell is fairly flat but noticeable which was off putting considering how strong the Northern Light was even though subtle.
Tue.
Humidity is in the 70's due to bad weather...
Wed.
An power outage to boot with herming. Except this power outage ate into her wake window.
Spent an hour removing all potential pollen sacs.
I had noticed one sack had opened with 4 tiny little off white banana looking things and a off yellow powder on a fan leaf.
No seeds will be taken to use by me once harvested but I remember the bud I had found this plant to be in was quite a potent one so depending onhow her buds turn out depends on whether I keep any seeds that may be formed though I'm trying my best to keep them from happening it may and probably will happen. Can just limit.
Fri.
Taken many bananas and flowers forming around the nodes hopefully the main buds will remain seed free as next to.
Experiment.
I wish to see which branches yield the most; half the branches have been pinched as it established a canopy to create knots also known as "Super Cropping" though I never bent them to a 90° angle, as the colas have formed I have slowly clipped leaves from them some fan, other sugar, on both "super cropped" and none
You can see on Fig A the seemingly totally winged and unscientific but it is actually a double blind test approach as I have a 3rd party with all the data and to be results while I the handler to off his diagram on a day to day basis.
Taking leaves he's plotted out from images seen.
Hopefully it will tell us what approach is good, the only variable is the root system, if I took clones and rooted/potted/flowered all in one while only doing xx and xy to set plants it would make a more stable basis. For now it wI'll serve as a solid base test I think.
Sat.
I do wonder what genetics she is from. Her leaves grow out really broad when allowed and her smell is a very potent musk except when you take the smells all in when you get an almost fruit basket like aroma.
Oranges, mangoes and lemons.
She may have been a hermed clone from an Amnesia Haze grow which crossed with a Gorilla Glue. Hence why the smells, leave structures and colouring are so mishmashed.
Sun.
Great growth over this week exceptional.
Mon.
The updates will be slow until harvest date. There wont be much to log other then any issues that turn up or the growth.
Wed.
The smell has gotten very poignant. A musky orange smell. It's an odd one.
I wish to go off her age for the harvest with the flush and drying darkness days timed respectively.
Plan.
• 6 weeks and 3 days in flowering schedule.
• 4 weeks and 3 days since first flowers (Reflected by diary)
- Between given example time frame (5 weeks?)
• 3 days before she goes thirsty she will be flushed. Tuesday.
• 3 days before harvest I wish to leave her in complete darkness (still undecided) and I will stop watering her.
• Harvest Monday.
There is a 9 week in flowering schedule minimum for harvest but I believe this girl to be more sativa in genetics in terms of general structure (70% Sativa, 30% Indica) so I will probably give her 9 weeks since first flowers minimum.
Fri.
Humidity has been very high lately as high as 89 and as low as 65, unsure on how to sort that.
Mon.
Upped the feed a little for this week just to see how she does, I think it will be a long 10-12 weeks as only yesterday did I see any darkening pisitils so I will have to assume the strain is in fact the advertised strain of the bud (Amnesia Haze) or as close to and not the assumed Gorilla Glue. So I will change the diary back to the original and apologise here for my flub.
Sat.
I placed a few silica gel packets in the room as a ghetto dehumidifier on Friday and the humidity has sat around 55%
Mon.
Been unable to find any bananas in the colas so far since my hunt...definitely wouldn't make a good monkey, probably starve to death 😅
Tue.
Only just noticed the top part of the bud isn't actually a nest of pistils anymore and is in fact now bleached calyx's so I've moved the light up 2 inches.
Fri.
Not much to add lately, It's just a whole lot of waiting around for her to finish.
Mon.
Looks like it's going to be a long wait, Less then half of her pistils have browned.
Wed.
Still not much going on, just waiting...forever waiting...
Fri.
Did a small flush over yesterday and today as I saw a small build up of nute burn.
Mon.
At least 50% of the pistils are now orange and curled in, she can't be far now!
Tue.
Noticeably more pisitils have curled and darkened.
Leave your guess in the comments how much the yield will be, be interesting in seeing peoples estimates.
Thu.
Found a single small clear winged fly in there, crushed it and looked around for more but I never found anything else.
She's starting to grow further out and I wished this grow would have been shorter then the last!
Fri.
She is now 8 weeks into her flowering cycle -10 weeks of you count from schedule switch- and about 55% of her pistils are now orange and yet I fear she's got a little more to come...there is new spontaneous growth coming off the top buds almost like a foxtail except it's not lose or whispy which tells me I can expect a nice harvest.
Mon.
This may be the last week we will see by Wednesday.
Tue.
I have determined that the pot size I use 5 colas seemed to be just about right with 4 main branches 1 secondary branch creating the bulk and 3 smaller side branches making lollipopped buds.
Wed.
Well now I know Amnesia Haze can also grow purple! The red hue is more noticeable towards the top of the buds where I may or may not have accidentally allowed herself to get bleached...Also decided to let her see next week...that was morbid...
Thu.
Slowly going to lower her feed now (+0.3 to all above values), and will use listed values for Friday and flush for the weekend.
Sat.
She's only 9 weeks into flowering and being a sativa she will need 10 - 12 so I will suck it up and let her grow through next week minimum. I will keep a flush on Sunday but feed today and just redo this week after the next.
80% of the pistils are now orange and I think the trichomes are milky but I'll wait until I see amber here and there.
Sun.
Next week is when I will perform the flush and unless I think otherwise by Wednesday, over the weekends I will perform the stressful dark and dry period and I will harvest Monday.
Otherwise I will resume lightly feeding until later in the weeks.
Mon.
12 weeks since switch 10 weeks since first flowers.
She's a long grower! Hopefully I've picked out enough of the seeds I've seen forming. It's been good experience and going through with the grow knowing what could be (herm/accidental pollination) avoided a disappointing first experience.
I am waiting for some amber trichomes to turn amber before I harvest as the first grow I harvested in my opinion 1 week early...
Wed.
I'm sure by now there is no salt deposits in the coco left and the yellowing is beginning.
If I see enough amber trichomes by Friday i will begin the final stresses to her and have her sit in darkness and not be watered over the weekend, I will harvest Monday if all goes well.
Fri.
I am starting to see enough amber and I wish to try and stress her out as much as possible to maximise THC production 🤷♂️ may work, may not, placing her in darkness for the weekend along with no water let's see what happens.
Sun.
The week is now over and she will be ready to come down on Monday. It's been a longer grow then intended but that's my fault for using a sativa as a test grow in coco.
The grow went as expected, the coco substrate alone was a superior yield enhancer when compared to soil.
The largest yielding branches were those pinched "super cropped" and slowly defoliaged, though pinching alone yields far less than defoliation alone.
I expected her to either be a male from the get go or herm half way in the grow due to external stresses or just because.
I believe she hermed due to stress from external factors (electricity drops mid day, extra high humidity due to broken fans etc.) Though she may have been a true herm as I noted early on when I saw pollen sacks.
Smoke Report.
Seed Bank: No known associated seed bank, Amnesia Haze of some description.
Did it autoflower?: No Photo-dependant.
From seed to harvest date: 113 days.
Dry Yield: 197g.
High/Effect Duration:
A extreme euphoric rush and heady buzz take over for the next 30 minutes as it moves from the head down to the body where you can either melt away or get super creative with food choices.
BAG APPEAL:
10/10
Beautiful big purple buds, covered in a thick layer of frosty trichomes.
THE GROWTH:
9/10
The growth was fast and easy, no health problems developed even though I wasn't very good at the sanitation part this time around.
THE SMELL:
10/10
An exceptional bouquet of citrusy fruits and the classic haze smell.
THE SMOKE/VAPE:
8/10
I have fond memories of the mother bud and had more then high hopes for this, I was more then blown away considering all I've learnt and read, as there are quite a few seeds here and there she ranges from an extremely heady mellow feeling to a blast your face off buzz that leads to the case of couchlock, munchies and an intense euphoric joy that you could almost say comes to rest on your face as a red warm circle.
OVERALL RATE SCALE:
8/10
Beautiful grower, troublesome herm, starting a fantastic deep yet vibrant green to finish with a very dark purple, big beautiful purple frosty buds, and an unfortunate amount of unseen seeds.
Growing this particular plant was extremely eye opening to me and the future grows I will be doing. It's allowed me to get first hand experience with a different strain, a new substrate, different nutrients and different ways of growing!
I learnt that my yields will be enhanced through the use of a larger pot regardless of the substrate, light or strain, but the pot size I have makes for a very nice little plant with big 4 large frosty colas enhanced by advanced grow techniques.
Damn it. Just missed the 200g dry weight...
I thank everyone who joined me on this grow and specially to all those that commented!
