This week is about Germination!
A brief story..initially my intention was to try the Skunk version by Strain Hunters and I ordered at XXXXXX.com but eventually I got Skunk #1 by Sensi Seeds. Well, really don't know if I'd get some bang from this innovation, but I'll try and see what I get. I haven't grown any Skunk strain before.
The germination process was as follows (three seeds): 100 mL destilled water and 4 drops H2O2 100 vol (30%) for 24 hours that was on 14th November 2019 ; 2) paper towel method, in 24 hours two of them have grown a large root, enough to be transplanted, so they were put in individual 200 cm3 cups and for the third seed, since until 24 hours later than I sowed her sister still I haven't seen much elongation of her taproot, so I took her to her cup anyway.
Fertigation started after 1 day (18/11) Cal-max 1mL/L, start fert 0.02 g/L, root exc. 0.3 mL/L, that is 1 mS/cm, I dilute two fold and use a solution 0.5 ms/cm to fertigate twice daily. 2 seedlings look good already, strong and healthy. The last one is lagging a bit but I know I'll get the three of them thriving afterwards! I spray the little leaves with pH'd water when I see them dry, the seedlings are not kept inside of a dome. I keep them 24 hours under CFL light 11 W.
20/11 I'm very happy to see derde's head coming out the dirt. Please baby get rid of that husk soon...
Day 1 of week 2They are growing normally, imo they've grown a lot in a week (but I've seen more).
Because Derde couldn't make it and she got a bacterial (or fungus) infection before splitting the husk and rotted, I sowed a seed of Auto Pink Grapefuit from Short Stuff ( free seed I got from dope-seeds.com. She hasn't sprouted yet.
Day 2 The Auto Pink Grapefuit seed has sprouted and the little seedling looks strong! Eerste and Tweede are growing fine, twice a day fertigation and 24 hours Fluorescent light. Eerste shows little more vigor than her sister T.
Day 3 APG has grown a lot since the previous day, she really seems to be a potentially strong lady. E is growing more leaves and approaching the end of her seedling stage, soon she'll be transplanted. T is slower, she may be getting some more time before going somewhere else. Fertigation, twice a day. EC inflow : 714 uS/cm and average run-off for the three seedlings is 640 uS/cm.
Day 4 (29-11-2019) the ladies are fine today. I'm gladly impressed by these strains. I fertigate them two or even three times a day, inflow 350 ppm ( 0.7 mS/cm) and run-off is approx. the same value.
Day 1 week 3 prepating transplant to a bigger (and definitive) 3 gal fabric container (I'm one of those weirdos that transplant autoflowerings, and I like doing it. I have seen that I have better results transplanting that putting the seeds in its final container from the beginning. Besides, I like the challenge, of being able to transplant without stunting growthm it's kind of an ego thing I guess). I changed 24/0 to 18/6 and the source of lights (from fluorescent to Led light). APG is still getting 24/0 hours of fluorescent light because she's a week younger than de Skunk sisters.
I leave the plants like in the photographs, inserted in the medium of the final container, adpating to the new lights and being bathed by the same fertigation solution both the old medium and the fresh one (the old meidum is the one the seedlings are thriving and the fresh medium is the one to which they are being moved, in this case still is reused coco/perlite, buffered with Ca-Mg overnight, but in a bigger contaniner)
The solution for the Skunk is Pro.silicate (0.5 mL /L), Cal-Mag (1.3 mL/L), Flower Power Grow fertilizer 0,15 g/Lm Roots Exc. 0.1 mL/L, 560 ppm. For the APG seedling, I keep giving her Start fertilizer solution (400 ppm) for this week.
By the end of week 3 I'd say the plants had been yellowing a little before transplant and after transplant and keeping an eye on EC they are recovering well, APG was transplanted today, She's a strong girl, she'll make it easily (I guess).
Day Week 4
I'm happy because the plants have managed the deficiency or whatever issue that leaves wer starting to get chlorotic ( that got the three of them, Sensi Skunk and APG, the defect was more marked on the Skunk), I think it was a problem of the reutilized coco coir which was not completely buffered or pH issue, it looked like a Mg def, but I guess it's past history (though some signs are still shown on the older leaves). I fought salt build up with E, and I sprayed Cal.Mag (pH'd) water that seemed to be beneficial. Fertigation is once a day, EC is 550 ppm and run off EC is acceptable (Amounts per 6.25 L: Pro-silicate 2.5 mL, Cal-Mag 7.5 mL; Flower Power Grow fertilizer 0.2 pH 6-6.2 solution
Hi there, both Skunk 01 plants are in transition phase to flowering but preflowers have appeared on APG, so I put this week as for flowering. They have been on a mix of Grow and Bloom ferilizer 0.2 and 0.2 g of each, and once or twice a week, I spray them using a solution 0.5 g/L Flower Power Foliar fertilizer (470 ppm).
Fertigations, as usual, are once a day in the morning but in some cases I started to see some salt builid-up, so I fertigated twice in the day with a solution half strength from the usual I was using.
The strength of solutions is about 550 ppm, and that dosage is very well tolerated (I usually go low on fertilizers because I'd rather not giving them all they can take, but not having deficiencies because of overfertilization instead).
I almost forgot to say, I had been spraying foliar fertilizer every day for three or four days in a row, but then luckily I saw the dreaded "hook" on some of the APG leaves, meaning she was overdosed on Nitrogen (Foliar fert is 15 15 15) so I interrupted the treatment with Foliar for her and reduced to twice a week spraying for the folowing two weeks for the other two).
The previous week I started doing some LST on Tweede, because I wanted to expand the canopy and I chose her because she was growing tall and vigorous and she has responded very well to training! So I decided I can have a few more tops (she hasn't shown preflowers yet) and went one step further and supercropped heavily. In a couple of hours she'd recover!
APG is lanky and delicate and showing preflowers, so I left her alone, I think I have more seeds for later ;)
Day 7 Week 6 the Sjunk #1 are completely recovered so I removed some big leaves that are obstructing the path of light to some grow tips. Fertigation was 0.2 g/L Grow and 0.2 g/L Bloom for Skunk#1 and 0.4 g/L Bloom for APG, the remaining ingredients were kept the same concentration.
I also removed a couple big fan leaves from APG.
1st Day Week 7 (30/12/2019) I continued combining HST and LST and light defoliation since both Skunk #1 girls have yet not showed noticeable preflowers (but there are the first signs thy soon begin with that), unfortunately I snipped pff a lateral shoot and I missed half of a nice lateral cola, I should not be so clumsy!
Fertigation is once a day, Skunk #1 are 0.2 g/L Grow + 0,2 g/L Bloom, foliar fertilization on Wednesday maybe and again in the weekend; since APG still show some hook pointed leaves, so I keep her on a Bloom fertilizer basis only (0.4 g/L).
3rd Day Week 7 Happy New year guys. I realized APG has gotten many centimeters and she is almost reaching the light so I supercropped the main shoot hoping she desaccelerates a little. Skunk #1 are fine, but they are not starting the flowering process. I think all the manipulations have retarded flowering but that's not problem, they will.
5th Day Week 7 (03/01/2019) it seems that supercropping and keeping little weights hanging from stems really helped with the stretching issue. Next time I'll know APG is quite a stretcher! I have trouble taking her out of the grow tent because it's homemade and not very weel designed for tall plants, it was my first attempt to have a decent growing space . I'm feeding the Skunk #1 with a solution 0.2 g/L Grow and and 0.25 g/L Bloom.
1st Day of the 8th Week (06/01/2020) and Eerste started flowering! And she has gotten a decent size after all. More vigorizing is the sight of the multilple buds sites she has to offer. She's doing very healthy as well, high EC in the rootball that once worried me, luckily that issue is gone. But Tweede still has shown no preflowers but she is showing the arborescent tips and tendency to stretch that undoubtedly shows that flowering hormones are acting. I'd really love to see her in bloom, I'm sure she'll look beautiful and full of buds.
APG has grown a lot and is indeed a very stretchy strain! I'm having real trouble fertigating her because taking her in and out the tent and avoiding breaking a long shoot/tip. She's advanced quite a lot in bud development, though they're still tiny little blosoms.
Day 2 Week 8 I had to supercrop some dangerously proximal to the light tips on APG. I did some defo on the Skunk #1, Tweede has revved up stretching before flowering. I'm considering a different fertigation for APG, I don't want to be taking her in and out very often.
Day 5 week 8 I continue waiting for Tweede to bloom but she's still getting the pre stretch so the event will be soon, I guess, Eerste's shoots show delicate and tiny, though abundant budlets. She's still stretching. On APG I keep on taking care of those flowering tips that get close to the light, and put them away using little weights or whatever. Fertigations on Skunk is daily, APG every another day. For APG, bloom fertilizer 0.4g/L, for Tweede, 0.2 g/l Grow and 0,2 g/L Bloom, and for Eerste, 1,5 L solution like Tweede's, and 1.5 L solution like APG's (3 liters in total which is the volume I use daily for 3 gallon fabric pots and get enough run off).
Day 6 Tweede hasn't shown pistils yet but I bet the following week (the 9th) she is going to surprise everyone. I still have her on a Grow and Bloom (50:50) and I plan to keep doing it until I see the preflowers. APG is bigger and bigger (I really have a hard work with her) and Eerste, a good girl, behaves good so far, no trouble at all with her. She's entirely on Bloom fertilizer by this stage, like APG.
Day 1 Week 9 I fertigate APG (Eerste and Tweede are fertigated every day )
Day 2 week 9 : APG seems to have stopped stretching but she's a real monster for the room I have available to auto's. Next time I grow a seed from "Short Stuff" I'll top it the earliest. It breaks my back to get her in and out of the tent every other day.
Eerste is fine, flowering and fattening the little buds. Size, very manageable, and for yield, I expect to get at least a ounce from her.
RegardingTweede, she continues stretching but no preflowers yet. I'll wait some more timebefore I put them under 12 hours, I didn't want that because I'd sacrifice a lot of light hours for Eerste and APG for this lingering rascal.
Day 5 fertigation for everyone. I see ppm are slightly above expected in APG runoff, I think that I'll to increase volumen of solution because increasing frequency is not the best option, since it's very difficult to get her out of the tent. Tweede keeps on a mixed Grow and Bloom fertilizers, stretching and aiming to show that f*cking preflowers. I resist the idea of flipping light schedule to induce her flowering! Eerste has dark green leaves and I think that despite she's on lower N fertilization regime, it may be a good idea to cut down ppm's a little bit for her, let her fast a little.
Day 6 I took Tweede to the outside, because she's grown big enough to rob light from Eerste and APG, and moreover she has not started flowering. She'll have the chance outside, then, to grow to whatever size she wants and to flower whenever she may please, it's a pity because she won't have the light intensity she was enjoying so far and the plagues that go rampant outdoors may be a challenge both for her and for me, I've tried many times to grow outdoors and all the times that I tried, neem, potassioum soap or whatever, the infestation of spider mites and other plagues I got after one or two months, made me desist from that idea for the future, but this time, I think I have no other possibilities.
And I'm also thinking about moving APG outside too. She's grown too big!
Day 2 Week 10, APG has stopped growing I presume, Tweede is stil vegging but outdoors, and Eerste grows her buds pretyy nicely. APG and Eerste are on prosilicate 0.5 mL/L, Calmax 1ml/L, Bloom fert. 0.4 g/L and pH 6. Tweede get the same stuff except she gets 0.2 g/L Grow and 0.2 g/L Bloom fertilizer. APG has very strong sativa genetics, as I see her. I'm keeping an eye on N, since I see the leaves too dark green, and there's kinda a claw strating to appear on some leaves' lobes...I don't know why, ppm's are OK and the fertilizer is low on N. So, From tomorrow on, I'l reduce the Bloom fertilizer concentration to the half.
Day 6 Week 10 E and APG are doing very well, T is outside bathing in the breeze and the sun and the plagues... but I've put an eye on her and I drench the substrate with Neem Oil emulsion every 10 days, unless I see plagues (usually spider mites) in which case I'd spray Neem oil foliar because she's not bloomed yet. But, keeping in mind the size she's gotten, if APG, Eerste and Tweede had been together, the loss of light penetration would have been very bad for the three of them.
Day 5 Week 11! I've been busy lately and I was looking forward to putting up with the diary, before the 12th week starts! No new news, in fact. Except for Tweede which is still outdoors enduring pests ( regularly she gets neem emulsion as drench as antidote against the vicious pests taht there are in the backyard), Eerste and APG continue flowering indoors and getting 18 full hours of light. APG buds are stiva-like but very dense though. Well, I loved this strain. Despiute she grew very big, had I know that I'd have taken some measures to prevent that from happening, but I0m satisfied with the potential yields of this cultivar. Defintely I'd consider growing her again.
I hope to have a good review later on Sensi Skunk #1!
Day 6 of Week 12
I started PK boost on E aand APG. The treatment is going on for two weeks from today.
I defoliated E a little as well.
Tweede keeps on growing outside, today after fertigation I applied neem oil drench again. I have to devise a protection for her against my neighbor's ligths, light coming from his kitchen's light was ruining my plant photoperiod. I think this nylon curtain does its job well.
The solution for fertigation is 400 ppm and i fertigate E and T daily, APG every other day.
Day 3 Week 13 (12 02 2020) and the three of them are flowering, APG looks not ready yet but thricomes are < 50% cloudy, so I'll keep boosting her with PK fertilizer till Sunday and I'll see of starting the flush by next week. I took her outside for the last part of her life, because I risk breaking a cola getting her in and out of hte tent fot fertigation. On the other side I plan not to keep her outdoors for long because buds are dense and I have fear of their getting moldy in the last part of this race. Finally T is flowering, but I prefer not to think of the lights she may be getting from my f*cking neighboors and their f*cking lights. In the night the yard sometimes looks very illuminated 😡 I found some strange rounded leaves at the tip pf a shoot that I fear it could be the plant revegging, but what gives me some peace of mind is that I finally see the budlets forming and just two or three of these deformed little leaves.
Day 5 Week 13 (14 02 2020) Next week I'll start flushing APG! T is flowering fine (as I see it) and E is sitting inside the indoor tent, ripening.
APG is still being flushed and I keep on inspecting thricomes, colas won't be ripening at the same time so I try to give time for the most immature buds to ripen a little more. Any other case I'll harvest her in stages.
Tweede is flowering very nicely and I jsut started to see the chracteristic dots on leaves caused by mites. But this time they won't catch me unaware and make havoc on my plant without a good fight first. I already ordered powdered sulphur to get rid of the pest soon.
Eerste is being flushed as well, like her half -sister APG. She'll be ready soon, but I don't see it ready for harvest yet.
Tweede is on a fertigation schedule of once a day, Prosilicate Grotek 0.5 mL/L; CalMag 1 mL/L; Hybrids Powder 0.5 g/L pH 6.
Today it was day of a little defoliation. I'll be progressively defoliating in the next few days.
28/02/2020 Eerste is ready so I harvested her today. Tweede is in its 3rd week flowering so I keep taking care of her and feeding her "heavily" (nuh, I never go very heavy on plants and rarely have they deficiencies for that reason). APG is still being flushed, until I see yellow leaves. Looking forward to smoking her soon, I've been smoking a lot of sativa cannabis lately and I admit I crave for some indica's high.
Tweede, the Skunk#1 Auto not so Auto is still very healthy, today I started a PK boost. It's amazing the size of this plant for a 3 gallon fabric pot, daily fertigation, and inspeckting her for pests, I see that there are signs of spider mites but she'll be able to tolerate, besides I saw the bites on a few leaves. I have the eye on her.
Auto pink Grapefuit is drying and curing, but the main sola is still ripening, in the weekend I'll finalise her.
And regarding Eerste, I'm smoking her already ;)
