Scuffed seed, soaked overnight in tap water and then another day in damp paper towels. Transferred to a cup full of soil until day 5, when the Waterfarm was ready.
Didn't get photos for this week, as this was before I knew about GD and had been documenting just for my own reference.
Nothing too exciting happened during week 3, just a good "watch the pot boil" week, waiting for some good growth to kick in!
Another week without photos, before I knew about GD. Not much happened this week, just waited for her to bounce back from mainlining.
I think it may have been this week I added an air stone to the reservoir, possibly the next. Not a ton of growth happened immediately though.
Week 7 was all about waiting for the plant to recover from the second bout of mainlining. Not a ton of growth right up until the start of week 8, when she took off on me.
I tried to be diligent with keeping humidity high and temperatures relatively low, but otherwise just let her do her thing.
Trying to keep her on the shorter side. Have defoliated a few times after mainlining, but leaving the "bonus" tops to see what happens. 8 main colas using Nebula's mainlining method, and LST to separate and anchor the 8 mains. Will be using dowel rods and velcro when she needs the support, will likely be flipping the switch to 12/12 at the end of the week. She has taught me a ton already, I'm excited and anxious to see how we do in flower. Fingers crossed!
She's ripe for flowering, so flipped the switch to start the process. So far this project has been very rewarding and I've learned so much, I'm really looking forward to the coming weeks!
The week has gone fairly well, though there are some very small pieces of roots free-floating in the reservoir. I haven't strayed from my routine except maybe the water I refilled with was a bit colder than room temperature. Seems quite happy otherwise; should I be worried?
ETA: the floating root bits are just as bad even after another gentle flush, but it doesn't seem to be bothering her. Time for some benign neglect, I think. She looks happy otherwise.
So, I did a dumb thing early this week. RH was getting a little high, so I opened one of the bottom flaps on the tent to increase air flow. Turns out it let in a significant amount of light from a clone I'm vegging outside of the tent, and so I had a couple "banana" stamens pop up at the very tops of a couple colas. Clipped them and closed the flap, will figure out RH another way.
I'm a week late posting this; life happened! I've reached a state of benign neglect for now, but hopefully not for much longer. She seems to be doing fine. Not a ton of growth since the last update, but definitely maturing. The smell is getting stronger, and maybe not as pleasant. It's still piney and earthy, but has a strange chemically-oil undertone as well. Hoping it cures on the pine side!
Okay, these are the pictures for this week. I think harvest time is approaching much quicker than I expected; seeing some amber trichomes on a couple big colas, and mostly cloudy everywhere else. I think in a few days I'll start flushing and prepping the space for chopping and drying. Looking for opinions though: would you give it an extra week? Two?
I have nothing to compare this to, as it's my first. Objectively she was very forgiving until I stupidly caused a light leak that caused a bunch of stamens. most of them I caught when they popped up, but a few hid in the middle of bigger buds. Not sure if any seeds were produced, and I know genetically Chemdawg (which OGK is derivitive from, correct?) is prone to doing the same thing with not much detriment to the final product. I think I can deal with a few here and there.
I don't have weights yet, but am very pleasantly surprised by the yield considering I trained her to be super small. She never did get over 13" tall.
I have so many plans for this--smoking, making bubble hash from the trim, making vape liquid, cannabutter, canna root tea, etc etc etc. This started out as an experiment of sorts, but I'm hooked on the experience of growing. Going to try a CBD strain next.
All is well! After 26 hours drying, have 6.5 ounces including stems. Will update with dry weight once the buds are off the stems. I am very impressed with this plant and hope the other seeds I have will perform similarly. Solid start to a new hobby!0
@Joint, just a cheapy 60x clip microscope on an S5 phone haha. I think it was $7 on amazon. I have to zoom in slightly on the phone to get rid of most of the black border but it works well so far!
She's coming together very nicely buddy. Absolutely beautiful :D
I'm excited to see how she develops in the coming weeks through her flower. These are looking to be really fantastic buddy. Best wishes growing. Cheers!
@Mousey, You've done very well and your effort definitely shows in this grow in regards to your research. You've obviously been studying the right information :D
@DabCrab, thank you so much! I'm still amazed I haven't blundered worse up to this point. Glad I did my research before I jumped in, for sure! I also think I got lucky with genetics, considering this is years-old bagseed from an acquaintance, haha. So far this plant has been very forgiving of my clumsy inexperience ^_^
Hi my friend. Your plants are looking great. I have a problem and I need comments from friends with experiences.
I'm feeling that my buds are so small, maybe they're not but I think like that. The feathers have started to turn into.brown and I think the harvest time will come after 15 days.
Will the buds continue growing up at that time? For the last, can you say anything abou the harvest time? I have added a video to my diary today.
Best regards. 🤗🙏
@Mousey,yes it looks likes she is going to deliver. But normally i would put 4 plants in my tent. But now this one is taking double the time to finish so my next grow has to wait. I hope she will deliver the same amount as 4 would do. Or come close
@Bluesbreeder, I'm glad they sent you some bonus seeds! At least a slightly longer veg time generally leads to more yields, right? Good luck with her! :)
@Mousey,well cheers to you 😀 i'm doing my first grow under Led light and am growing a Auto Ultimate! turns out its a regular ultimate so i had to put her on 12/12 regime to get it flowering. so i hope it will be a big yield also. because i lost so much time in Veg state. but dutch passion was very kind to send me some seeds to compensate this mistake .
@Mousey,no problem mate yeah it seems to do that at times and sometimes shows me double messages 😉😃but you got some amazing looking buds hope the taste is as good look 😀👊
@islandgrows89, thank you! It was a great learning experience, figured if I was diligent enough that hydro would be cleaner/easier in the space I'm working with. Turned the WF into a modified DWC once roots were well established in the water. Paid off!
Good job, I grew 2 OG kush auto 1 was almost perfect, the other epic fail lol. Your girls seem happy though and I know that you'll appreciate all of your hard work in the end..
So the air pump quit on me sometime since last night. I would have checked this morning but I hate messing around in there while lights are off. She's droopy and clearly pouting but I think I caught it in time. Thankful I thought to buy a spare though!
@BigDaddyK, I let her sit suspended in plain pH'ed water while I scrub out the main bucket with h202. when it's ready, I run that "rinse" water through to clean out the hydroton before refilling the res with nutrient water prepared in a 5 gallon bucket. I had just done a res change a couple of days prior to noticing all the floaties, so that easily could have been the culprit!
@BigDaddyK, thank you! Would that have caused the "shedding" root hairs into the reservoir? I got it hooked up to the spare pump as soon as I saw it, and that was about a week before I noticed the floaters. Roots are still white and the plant is acting normally
Hey man! nice grow. just a quick question, i am using the same nutes as you and im going on week 7. Is it right that you use 1 tsp per gallon meaning its 5 tsp per 5 gallons? sorry sounds kinda dumb for asking but just dont want to go through another nute burn. thanks man
@jhawk, also I see where the amounts in the pie chart above could be confusing, as I was too lazy to divide by 2. so the pie chart shows total nutes in a 2 gallon reservoir, not amount per gallon!
@jhawk, hi there! I go more by ppm than exact amounts, but with 1tsp = 5ml, that's a lot hotter than I run mine. My plant seems to do best between 900-1000ppm, and as that number falls through the week I'll add more nutes... say 2ml of micro, the next day 2ml of bloom, two days later a ml of calmag.... if ppms stay the same, or rise, I top off with pH'ed plain water. Res change/cleanout every week to prevent nasties and lockout. My res is approximately 2 gallons, but I definitely don't put as much as the label calls for. Half strength, maybe. Haven't had issues with it so far though!
