Blueberry Headband (2) and a Amhest Sour Diesel (1)from Humboldt Seeds. * Even though the ASD seedling is much different than the other ASD that I've grown, HSO says there's not a chance seeds got mixed, so I'm assuming that this pheno is more on the Amherst Super Skunk side of the lineage as was a seedling last grow. Love the pheno! Is it common to have a pheno every once and a while that totally defies the strain defining characteristics? A 'Throw Back', I guess?

Totally, a stabilized feminized strain will still show discrepancies between phenos. Be it terps, growth rates, finish times, and even some really cool oddballs, such a a tri-cotyledon germination that had triple axial internodes.. and sometimes, as with the Barney's vanilla kush, of 3 beans popped, one was totally sativa dominate and the other was a typical kush growth habit.. it can really be like a box of chocolates sometimes, never know what little gems you'll end up with. The is why I order 5 seeds or more when I get a new strain... Happy growing

Want to thank @Humboldt Seeds for working with me to answer questions about me unusual pheno! Gracias, gang! Every once and a while there is a genetic 'throwback'. Wish I'd have cloned the one from last grow! We'll see what this ASD is like. Displaying more indica like traits than sativa, although it is 80% sativa. This will be a cool grow! The clones are hanging in there! It's been 6 weeks of vegging under an LED bar. Can they keep going for another 4-5 weeks? I hope so! Will do my best! One of the two BHB clones will be transferred from soil to DWC at 10 weeks. The adjustment period will be slow. About a week, I figure. If successful. I will have solved my 'Have no way to veg' quandary. Will build a bubble cloner for the next batch. Because Grow Diaries is not setup to have several grow systems in a diary, most of the technical data is below Transplanted the ASD plant into DWC with half the nutes for a full adult plant following GH's feed chart. PH 5.8. Rose to 6.4 overnight. Adjusted. Will keep checking till am familiar with the system. End of the week will transplant the remain BHB into soil and DWC respectively. Will see if I can take clones from the ASD for next grow or for a mother. If this DWC test works will do the same when I transplant the BHB. Next grow will be Dinamed Plus from Dinafem and either ASd or BHB. Going to DWC will only have room for two plants (although am going to try to fit three in this grow) Blueberry Headband (2) and a Amherst Sour Diesel (1)from Humboldt Seeds. * Even though the ASD seedling is much different than the other ASD that I've grown, HSO says there's not a chance seeds got mixed, so I'm assuming that this pheno is more on the Chemdawg side of the lineage as was a seedling last grow. Am concerned that I won't have room. If something has to go, it's the soil. Have a case of Fungus Gnats that I'll treat with Diatomaceous earth if I keep her. The Amherst Sour diesel may have root damage as it's roots spent the first two weeks underwater bearing the brunt of other mistakes along the way. Growth is slow even though the plant is responsive. The few new roots that show are almost translucent. This Blueberry Headband was in soil just 6 hours ago and now that I know what I'm doing, Should adapt quickly as it's barely noticed the transplant. The other BHB (BHB1) is looking awesome! New feathery white roots! Tremendous growth and vigour! The other BHB (BHB2) will have to catchup. Have a new DIY cloner. Will see what she does. Trial run. So far, so good! There is absolutely nothing in soil anymore! Tragedy, or near tragedy. We'll see. Root rot. Came fast, came with a vengeance. Considering the amount of organic material that remains in the root ball, I'm not surprised. H2O2 did nothing. Got a forum thread sent to me talking about beneficial microbes to deal with it. So, Tarantula to the rescue, I hope. Watch the video for details. Otherwise, the plant do look great and the ASD has even caught up so, I won't be replacing her... unless shit goes absolutely sideways with the root rot. Spent the week rinsing and massaging roots, cleaning, filling then re-cleaning and refilling reservoirs. The rot is gone. Replaced with beneficial microbes from Advanced Nutrients Tarantula, that I made into a tea. This tea has cured the rot and also made a huge contribution to the roots and therefore, the whole plant. Am very impressed with the plants progress, vigour, vitality and strength! Now that the crisis is over, I'll be using the tea twice weekly to replenish the ranks. A 4 hour planned power outage in my area gave me the excuse to flip the girls. Kept the lights off for a cycle then immediately went 12/12. Although the temperature dropped to a root freezing 58°F, the reservoir didn't have a chance to fluctuate much and I also kept my air pumps running for an extra hour and a half off my computer backup battery! The battle with root rot is basically over. I am taking care to rinse the roots every once and a while. Growth has been amazing! Loving DWC! It also gives me things to do as I lie to pay attention to my plants. Doing a thorough clean with H2O2 every res change. PPM is around 800-900. Drops fast now. Every two days I check PH and correct if necessary. Usually it's been around 6.2-6.3 when I check. I PH it back down to 5.8. I've heard that flowering is a little on the acidic side so I'm planning on dropping my PH to 5.5-5.6. Did a major defoliation after this diary entry. Will do another in three weeks. Stretch has started by the looks of it. The stretch is amazing! This plant is a real sky king! Buds are really stacking well on most of the branches. A major recovery from the massive defoliation from last week! Internodes are Sativa like. Branchy. BHB 1 is a monster! Around 19 viable bud sites. She's taaall. Lollipopped the lower quadrant for airflow and to redirect the growth where it is needed. BHB 2 is the shorter, slightly younger plant. Shorter and has about 1-12 bud sites. Five branches are taller than the rest (This is a similar trend in #1). The buds are looking healthy. I do get the occasional burnt leaf from my heater at night. Another week of stretching and another big defoliation and that problem should have sorted itself out. Just found out my res temp is at 62°F. I've started the circulation fan in my insulated box in sync with my exit fan. When it gets too warm, it'll start not only my exit fan, but also the box fan. Should raise the temp gradually back up to 65°. Where I like it. Still, no one has complained. Growth was/is still vigorous and healthy! Keeping the PPMs at around 800-900. Going to do a straight water flush for 24 hours, then start again at 500 PPMs or so. In soil I've always done periodic flushes throughout the cycle of the plant. Usually twice in veg. Once at around 6 weeks and another at transition. The third is at week four of flower and the last is the obligatory final flush. 24-48 hours after the flushes, there is a strong and vigorous spurt from the plant. three days later 'in soil' I go back to nutrients. DWC requires much less time to do the same thing, so 24 hours, it is! I've done two flushes so far and the experience in DWC is the same. Just faster. I highly recommend trying it if you haven't already. Although the root rot is essentially gone, I continue to brew my microbe tea using Advanced Nutrients Tarantula. I add a litre every forty eight hours to each plants res. This is just prevention at this point. There is so much peat moss and soil left in the root ball when transplanted from their soil, it just seems prudent. Future grows will be done 'sterile. With no organic material or biosphere (microbes)... unless we run into problems again. With the res temps so low, I don't think it'll be an issue. Stretch has finished. Starting full on bloom formula. I always use 50% of what the listed recommended amount is. Full dose is just too strong. Major defoliation three days ago. Filling in fast. Will not defoliate much now till preharvest other than removing leaves to expose bud sites. Next week is the first flower flush. 24 hours straight water, then back to nutes. Always perks them up. PPMs dropped in number 2 this week from 800ish PPMs to 600ish PPMs. 1 is a much lighter feeder. The root mass of each are so different. 2 is long like a hippy's ponytail while 1 is more like a wispy, wiry Afro. Both are healthy and continueing to stack well. Frost is showing and the aroma is quite strong already. Blueberry Headband Grow Week 04 Flower Feb 29 In a state of transition. Started using 'Hygrozyme'. An enzyme that will supposedly keep my roots clean and root rot at bay. Wasn't quite the case. PH went up 10 fold and brown slime reappeared. Rinsed the roots, added more Hygrozyme and a dose of Tarantula tea. 24 hours later, PH is up the same. No sign of rot. RePHed and all is ok. Plants aren't blinking. Aroma is strong. Trichromes appeared last week and are everywhere, now! Little bundles of calyxes are all excited to pop out this coming week! Think this will be a 'beginners luck' grow. Trying to be diligent. The addition of an enzyme has produced amazing results that were shocking and worrying at first. Massive rise in EC and PH every 24 hours from 5.3 - 6.8. Research yet no sign of any harm to the plants, in fact they seem very happy! The enzymes has created an environment friendly to the beneficial microbes and fungi that has lead to a feeding frenzy (Which wouldn't have happened ad I used Hygrozyme from the start.). EC rises a point or two as the microbes and plants expel waste and create a plethora of negative charged hydrogen ions. Thus, the PH rises. Never above 6.8, strangely. Because the microbes are eating and shitting so well, they have added a lot of chilated nutrients that are easier for the plants to uptake at a wider range of PH (Yes, some as high as 6.8). The fact that there are so many bunches of calyxes sprouting and exploding, filling in the flower space is proof enough for me. Massive PH swings are now levelling out. Using Organic Alaskan Bloom to lower the PH instead of the huge amount of PH Down it usually take. Needs less (about 5-10 ml) to lower the PH back to 5.7 from 6.4. BHB2 is more Sativa in appearance but is going to finish about 1-2 weeks ahead of BHB1 which is more indica like. (Appearances can be deceiving!). Have already flushed BHB2 for 24 hours with fresh RO water, replaced half with fresh then added GHE Bloom, Micro, CalMag, then the organics (Hygrozyme, Tarantula, Microbe Tea *Formula below.) Will do a final three day RO water flush when all the trichomes are cloudy (My fave harvest. More 'up') and about 10% amber. Am not worrying about PPM or EC at the moment. The microbes and organics are kind of messing with it. Had a potassium deficiency in BHB1. Treated with more GHE Bloom. Seems ok now. Things are winding up! Have been flushing #2 for a couple of days. Replacing half the water each day.PPM is under 100 and that's been consistent for a day. The harvest will be going into a dark closet in a day where it will stay for 7-10 days (7 I'm sure), then be jarred for curing. 20 branches harvested! BHB#1 is still packing it on! Guesstimate, two more weeks. Will start flush Wednesday taking 50-75% solution out and replacing with water. Weights will be shared after #1 has dried. Have had a couple 'testers' already and am not disappointed. Harvest was better than my last soil grow and this first DWC was not a disaster. I'm happy with it. Learned a crap ton and will be trying it on the next grow going into flower. Blueberry Headband and a Dinafem DinaMed CBD Plus. Nothing to follow it up. Taking the summer to make fem seeds, clones and hopefully enjoying the Summer. Be safe, everyone and good growing.
