I came back at the middle of the week to a moderately bushy plant. Defoliated it again, and gave it the final training before flowering. I also further reduced the light period to 16/8. I got 4 clones from this, and I'd like to try doing my next grow from these clones. I've done cloning before (to give to friends), but never tried growing them. Near the end of the week the girls have recovered fully, and so I flipped it to 12/12. I did notice that the new growth are a tiny bit too light colored, so I put in some extra 32-10-10 growmore NPK nute to boost the Nitrogen. Now that I think about it, I could have just used more Calcium Nitrate, but it's fine I guess. The journey to flowering has begun! Now it's gonna be even more fun. Since I have two plants that pretty much behave the same way, I want to do a side-by-side experiment. I will try schwazzing on Kate (right), which is a really extreme defoliation technique where I strip pretty much all it's fan leafs, at 1 & 3 weeks mark. I will do the 1st week stripping tonight, the first night of the official flowering week to only Kate. As for Pippa (Left), I will let it be relatively bushy, and only do a normal strategic defoliation. Both plants will get a some lollipopping done too; not too much since the plant is already pretty low and squat already. I am not interested in determining whether it will give more budsites (quantity); I know for sure that they do. But the promise is that extreme defoliation will give fatter buds (quality), so we shall see.

Grow Questions

Dear experts, could you help me ascertain whether the 4th and 5th picture on my Week4 diary is really heat stress? The only reason I think that is because of that slight cupping/curling of the leaf edges. Might there be other problems that could cause this?

Hi JKT48 I think you doing a amazing job so far. It really looks like slight heat Stress Or Light stress but don't think anything to worry you. You adjusted the lights all ready. So this should help. Only interesting thing is heath stress on 22 C day temperature. So possible slight light stress. Some strains occasionally have a tendency towards curly leaves more than others or sometimes odd traits. Hope this helps grow mate. And good luck with your grow.

The buds aren't fat at all. Considering my tent is 1x1 meter (~3x3 ft), how much yield do you guys think I could expect? It's just fun to play the guessing game.

Well my room is 1m x half m and I can get anywhere from 9 oz to 15 oz. but your not giving your plants enough nutrients from what I can see bro. Basic flower nutrients will not give you big yields you need bud boosts ect.

Something to think about, I used tubs like that and it allowed too much light into the roots, almost lost a set to root rot because of it.. ended up cutting keyholes in a sheet or orca wrap for the plants and covered the tops.. maybe 1% light gets in now.. no more root issues

@JKT48, dunno.. like i said, just an idea...

@DWCHC, certainly organic DWC would be a challenge. I'm looking forward to see your diary on it. Experiments like those are the best ways to learn!

@JKT48,adding fulvic acid as well can help, I just don't like the smell of aquariums.. lol. I tried organic hydro, and couldn't keep the microbes happy without huge amounts of time and inputs.. I'm considering trying an outdoor hydro, buried pails, with an actively aerated compost tea solution as a grow media... We'll see how time allows..

hey there JKT , well based on my understanding often times the downward pointing curling is more due to root problems , looks like you might have some because you're not using a chelation agent. You really want to start using something to break down nutrients in your solution for example beneficial bacteria like hydroguard (BS, BBassiana ) or even humic acid (turns your water black!) or dilluted flushing agent. These will break down the problem roots (should be brownish instead of full white. You could always cut some roots off too : never more than 20%. I see some signs of N toxicity, with those "too dark" green leafs, plus the fact you're not using micro nutrients like cal mag explains the discoloration on the serraded edges of the leafs. You probalby should be aware of this because oyu need to add cal mag (also spray it on twice a week) and might need to switch up the feeding regimen heading into flower. Hope this helps ! 🚀

@CRiSPrGrow, hey thanks so much for the comment dude, sorry I didn't spot this earlier. Notification on growdiaries is not working so great for me. Anyways, yes, as per your suggestion, I've started adding humic acid (man that powder is an annoying mess if I get it on anything), as well as cal mag (by using calcium nitrate and epsom salt). I'm gonna start adding MKP as well (KH2PO4, the chemical for of most bud boosters). Btw I love your diaries, I'm doing my first mushroom grow as well. The mycellium has almost fully collonized 4 of the 9 jars I injected spores with. The rest are kind of slow. Would love to talk with you about this when you get the chance.

Fogponics!? Thats so cool! Sorry it didn't work out tho. Do you feed the water a nutrient solution then? Plant still looks healthy!

@HiyaMaya, yes, I’ve been wanting to try this for a long time. And yes, I’ve heard about all the problems associated with it including the heat, but didn’t think it was to this extent. I do put in nutes to 400ppm. I also saw that (as many have pointed out), the ultrasonic disc does get a deposit on it. Easily cleaned up with a soft toothbrush. But that is the kind of maintenance I don’t want to have to do. I’ll have to think more about this system if I want to try this again.
