Will be experimenting with a single topping to this Autoflower.
Germination Day 1
Parentage = OG Kush x Strawberry Diesel
THC = 22%
Expected Harvest = 60 grams per plant
Indoor height = 80cm - 100cm
70 days from seed to harvest
10 days from germination has resulted in 5" of growth.
Looking quite vigorous and content.
Will be swapping to stronger lights shortly once the seedlings have hardened off a little
Day 21 from seed.
Topped on day 16 when the plant was healthy and vigorous
No visible shock and the growth since had been solid.
Gradually lowering my main flowing light (320w LED) to its current height of 30" whilst watching for any signs of light shock (heat will not be an issue).
Will be upgrading my enviromental monitoring gear so that I can get temp/humidity and vpd readings in more or less real time. Will help prevent disasters and also help me analyse my grow environment to better dial it in. Whilst this piece of equipment does nothing directly to help your plants I would recomend that you invest in a monitoring device. It will be the second best thing (after your light) that you spend your money on !
Once we get to pre-flowering, I will be lowering the light incrementally again to 18" - plant permitting.
Day 28 from seed.
Plant is 22" tall and still stretching. Quite explosive growth of 10" in seven days
Despite being topped, this auto has not shown any sign of growth slowdown or stunting. Important to top at just the right time - as early as possible versus when the plant is strong and vigorous, observe your girls and pick carefully. For me, for this plant and for this grow, day 16 from seed was just right.
Will add Cal/Mag every other week from now until 3rd week of flower.
Final harvest circa mid March , so a good solid 6-7 weeks flowering ahead.
Day 34 from seed.
Week 1 of flowering.
This auto was topped around day 16 from seed and has not had any growth slowdown.
Nice structure to the plant which should negate any serious humidity issues.
will shortly be switching to bloom nutrient but will continue to add nitrogen until week 2/3 of flower alongside regular cal/mag.
Have put two preliminary stakes in place. I may not need these as the plant is pretty robust but hope for the best, plan for the worst.
Day 38 from seed.
Still stretching and budlets starting to form.
This pheno has quite a nice form and although I have not removed any leaves at all, it still has an airy structure allowing plenty of light and airflow to move through the plant.
I will include my Grow Room Data and VPD data from time to time
The sourcerer's apprentice is Boris who like to supervise!
Day 46 from seed.
Still stretching but slowing down.
Buds filling in, adding fulvic/humic acid to boost flowering plus regular cal/mag from here on in.
This strain would be ideal for a SOG in say 12 ltr pots. Does not take up too much lateral space, good strong side branching and lots of vertical growth.
About another 4/5 weeks of flower left to run.
Day 52 from seed and flowering is getting into stride
3 -4 weeks to harvest as per breeders information.
I have not carried out any defoliation on this plant since day one, however, it has a fantastic structure and bud/leaf ratio. I couldn't have asked for anything better.
Plenty of 'hulk' behaviour going and on so far this strain has been an absolute darling to grow.
Day 59 from seed.
Buds continue to swell.
Bud/leaf ratio on this pheno is just perfect and light penetration is excellent for such a tall plant and lots of the lower buds are bulking up nicely.
So far I have learned that this pheno is very greedy for potassium and you will see the defeciency in the photos and next time I grow her, I will supplement with a PK booster from the flip. I thought that Dutch Pro's Explode would be sufficient, but not for this little lady, she wants seconds.
Two , possibly three weeks to go until harvest.
Day 66 from seed.
Buds are fattening.
Topped autoflower - time it well.
Virtually no defoliation from seed. This pheno has a great structure and bud/leaf ratio.
Supplementing with PK booster but laying off flower feed.
Trichomes are mostly milky, a few still clear and a few amber (less than 5%).
Best guess 7-10 days but may run a week longer,
Day 73 from seed.
Breeder info states 65-70 days from seed to harvest and this is pretty much on the money.
Pre-chop trim of fan leaves before whole plant hang to dry which should slow down the drying process - low and slow
Fingers sticking to the keyboard as I type 😀
Good smell, quite reminiscent of Northern Lights, not exactly the same but there is something in there similar.
Now 7 - 10 days dry and then trim for cure and jar
Will post a harvest week and full rundown of the strain once I have dry weights.
Bit early in the cure to comment definitively, but lovely fruity/piney smell and taste right from the get go. Night time smoke for me, great with a movie . Buds are quite loose and airy and will be down to personal preference as to what you like. Plenty of trichome coverage and the buds are extremely sticky to handle even after 7 days drying. The few buds that didn't.... erhm, survive harvest have been sampled and provide a satisfying THC slap around the chops along with a surprisingly agreeable taste despite the extreme prematurity of the curing process. Would be happy to grow this varity again.
SMOKE UPDATE: After 8 weeks in the jar the smell and flavours really comes through. Buds have tightened up nicely as they have cured and THC smack is instant (before the end of the first exhale) and may surprise those with modest tolerances. That said, the effects are not long lived and can dissipate in under an hour and therefore is easy to regulate. A couple of months in the jar has improved the smoothness.
Buds have tightened up nicely and no longer have an 'airy ' appearance that was present at first jarring.
Out of the four strains I grew during this round, this is the strain that my friends keep asking 'if I have any left' 😀.
This is the third or fourth set of good genetics that I have grown from Original Sensible Seeds 👊.
This was an experiment in topping an autoflower with a single topping at day 16 from seed. BB#3 did not miss a beat and carried on in vigorous growth throughout. Hitting a reasonable 40 - 45", BB#3 grew with a good bud/flower ratio and a good spread of side branching. She really did not require any defoliation and had no issues dealing with the temp and humidity variances of a Northern European latitude. Good strong terps on this variety and a good smell and flavour.
I thought that this strain was photoperiod not an auto. There is yhe bruce banner #3 the bruce banner 3 auto and the bruce banner 3 fast. The fast versions are not referring to being autoflower when it says fast . They are photoperiod except they have been bred in such a way to shorten their flowering stage by as much as 2 weeks in some cases. So it wasnt topping an autoflower.
@growtenthobo, The clue is in the title. This is an autoflower. If you have a look at Week 1 you can see the seedpack from Original Sensible Seeds.
This "photoperiod" started flowering all by itself at week 5, how did that happen on an 18/6 light schedule?
Not sure of the point of your post other than to be needlessly negative - do your research properly next time and do try to be constructive.
