Well this week in the grow world... I germinated 3 seeds I got from buds I grew and germinated those bad boys up. I was pleased to see all 3 seeds germinate, FREE SEEDS and I know it's good bud :). The six are doing just fantastic the slow grower seems to be the Ultra Violet OG, From what I recall the strain info did indicate it wasn't a fast grower or a big yielder.. But in theory it'll look really pretty. The leaves they speak to me and they said hey dude move the static fans, slight signs of wind looking leaves so I just moved the fan around. Also the "first" singular leaves are starting to "die" off which is right about what you'd expect as the plants put more energy into growing the upper leaves. Seeing lots of growth nodes and all 5 plants have been topped except the ultra violet og. I like to top right about that 2-3 week spot when the leaves are fairly far along. If a plant is behind or sickly looking at all I will not top it. The added stress just isn't worth it and I find the slow growers sometimes tend to just do the best if there left to grow. I found when I was new at this sometime I would panic and be like ohh no the nutrient solution isn't strong enough or is too strong.. I'd research leaf symptoms and problems. And come up with some conclusion that seemed to make sense at the time but in hindsight was probably not correct. Now I find myself just taking a more wait and see approach. The little fucking purple star killer is still just a little guy. I have cared for it and been gentle with it but it's like nah I suck at growing so I'm just not going too. Three weeks in and it still looks like a sprout... Ohh purple star killer what happened to you in order for you to be such a disappointment? Was your mother mean to you? Did she not give you enough of what you need? Only the Purple star killer knows it's horrid past. I gave you my love purple star killer and you filled me with disappointment. You didn't even get to become a teenager before your broken bad seed nature was exposed. I will continue to nurture and grow you purple star killer not because I believe in you, you suck. But because I am curious to see what you will turn into. Most likely you will turn into a sad little bleak disappointment. Hell you might even die young, an abomination of nature who was indeed never really meant to survive. But alas my little purple star killer. Perhaps you will find your wings and fly into super grow mode. 3 weeks in and it's looking like it's just gonna die off... Iv'e have seeds not germinate but never had a plant that just refused to grow... strongly leaning towards giving it away.. I love the scrog for many reasons but the big one right now is I can actually see it grow.. Without points of reference you don't actually see that they grow soo FAST. I fixed the scrog sort of I just put a ye ole stick in the middle section to help with the bowing from the tighening of the strings. looks a lot straigher now. I'm also seeing a lot of roots coming down from the containers into the reservoirs and a lot of healthy looking root structure.. This is a fantastic sign HEALTHY ROOTS HEALTHY PLANTS. I can say that the voodoo juice does indeed seem to work, it's hard to make a definitive conclusion without side by side same strain comparisons but even then you never know.. Iv'e read about the benefits of what's inside the voodoo juice and it does indeed seem to work. The "new" Led Light in the small tent is really impressing me as well. It seems to do just as well as the 2000W as far as overall growth and vigor. Generally Speaking I am still at the phase of keeping one switch off most off the time. I get temps of about 30c with both switches on and with only 3 hours off I'd rather have it be a bit cooler.

So the seed casing of the purple star killer did not open without some help about 6-7 days after initial germ. Iv'e had some catch and seen some struggle but nothing like it did.... Would you guys guess that it's gonna be a poor grower? Would manually opening it earlier help?

Hi. The structure of the seedshells changed. Some strains are very well known to have hard shell like Jack Herer, those plants like to chop of their own head with thse strong shells. But if they are out of shell they normally behave like other seeds. I( dont know how you germinate the Seeds , but here are some Tips to handle hard seedshells. a) put some seeds in a small plasticbox and shake them very well for around a minute. So litle cracks appear in the shell and it opens easier b) let them soak into lukewarm water up to 24 hours......... after that procedures a shell opens much better

Hi I don't like the concept of putting a lot of effort into things. What is Required to Grow Cannabis? Like I know it can be tricky but where do I start? Is it at all possible for you to like grow it for me?

What a Question. I think ist required to have s sense of slef reflexion and Plantempathy to grow good weed. You have to have a Connection to your Plants, and see what is good for them and what is not so good. Technically seen i would say, The growmedium and the Lights are the most important Things for a grow.

@Mrs_Larimar, Lol thanks a lot Larimar. I try to be humorous, a little entertaining and informative. I do love my plants 😁 . I think I told you one time in pm I get sad😥 when I chop them and I do lol. A part of me is like don't kill this thing, it's so pretty and nice. But putting stuff on the scales is like another fun part of the adventure lol. Not even gonna get into smoking the plants I grow, that'd be like another paragraph or two lol.

I do it like you do and asolutely agree. I only do " naked flush"( only with water) if i have excesses or a builtup.. that means maybe one or 2 times a year . So iam using water, kelp, molasses p+k , and humic acid the most Time. Your Girls look very good!!!. and i agree , very good canopy shape

To be honest, I really appreciate it when people are honest about their yields. It's a good way to keep hobby growers like ourselves hopeful and motivated to keep growing. When some people are like, "yep, I got a kilo dried from this one plant," it's enough to make the rest of us want to just throw it all away and give up. I've been looking at a lot of large yields on this site too, and I have to say that you can see that some of the people are obviously just bullshitting. So if any of you who are reading this like to falsify your dry weights, just so you know, we all know you are lying.

@MovingOn, I agree. I do a lot of smiling if i read some dryweighs…. But some PPl pretend to lie to themselves...😝

@MovingOn, Dude you just made up my mind and my day really thank you. I will post my yields for guys like you. I mean to me in hindsight it's kind of obvious what happened with the Back 2 they kind of got crowded out and the top buds didn't get that light intensity they need. I was having a bad day and I forget sometimes that their are still honest folks and for some it isn't just about ego. It's about learning. And you are right it's so obvious some times that yields are overinflated... I won't name names but some pretty savage examples Iv'e seen. And I was kind of like in that head space where I'm like shit if a lot of folks are dishonest then what's the point. You brought me out of the head space. Thanks dude your awesome and I'm glad we get a chance to "grow" together 😁👍

@Mrs_Larimar, I have no fenced yard so I am very wary of growing anything "special" outdoors I would throw a clone or two out. We have a lot of bears in the area and wild life. And we also have a lot of hippy stoners in the area and someone stealing my outdoor grow would probably "break" me lol. So I stick to inside safe but with out the awesome powers of the Sun. I think if I was gonna do a "room" it would get rather expensive I'd want it sealed up properly and with quality ventilation. Legalized growing is fantastic and I am lucky to live where I do. I'm sure if I smelled enough houses in my neck of the woods I'd be smell growing cannabis all over the place 😁 … So many things to consider when growing Cannabis and I'm glad having the police come and take my shit is no longer a possibility in my country. I can only hope that one day every country in the world will be Smart enough to make the right choice and Legalize.... Honestly I forget a lot of people don't have the luxuries and freedoms we do.

You are kind of funny 😀 You are doing hydroponics, topping and training and ask for the most simplistic approach. Quite some contradiction... Have a look at my first grow for the KISS approach. I'm lazy and unexperienced, so want to keep things as simple as possible. This means: 1. Grow in soil. But buy some good soil! No need to monitor pH or EC and reduced risk of overwatering. And it will provide the best aroma. 2. Use organic nutrients. Very low risk of overdosing. Simply follow the recommendations of the manufacturer. They have decades of experience and cannot be totally off. 3. Do not train. I'm still not convinced this will guarantee some bigger yield. Main argument for topping and LST is the even canopy. But many newbies are still failing on this one, break some stems and in the end the canopy is not that even anyway. By using multiple small lights instead of a single huge one you can compensate for an uneven canopy. So in the end you only need to get the watering right. I'm very happy with the results and see no reason to make it any more complicated. Unless you enjoy it of course 😉

@Buddha2, I really like growing in Hydro... I really like my results and don't mind the work. I don't see a point in growing in soil if I already have all the hydro stuff (It's expensive). When I grow plants in soil now, they are my "b grade" plants that I won't put as much attention or effort into and the results speak for themselves 😁. It's all relative as well, lots of dirt guys put in tons of work (testing ph and run off). I say I spend about 2-3 hours every week which is not to shabby at all in my mind. The hardest part of hydro is setting things up. My question was satire lol. I guess sarcasm is lost in translation.. Was a joke Question.

@Mrs_Larimar, Yes and I do love my Fur babies. I'm gonna try to get better filtration for the tents and open the tents less often ha ha ha. Very Frosty it's like Christmas but hard work paying off is so much better then free presents lol. My plant positions relative to the light made me learn a great deal more about how I should be setting up my tent. I wasn't a huge fan of the scrog because after I certain point I couldn't do anything. But another great learning grow lol.. There are all learning grows and next one will be even better. Thank you for reading and commenting always appreciated. 😁

Athos
Athoscommentedweek 105 years ago
Simplest way of growing would be to grow outdoors, you only need a big pot, good soil and water and a couple of seeds. Next step up, would be a simple indoor setup: just choose a light type and and exhaust. Everything else is optional, although many things are recommended: like a carbon filter. Keep in mind that good soil and a big enough pot will save you the trouble of using bottled nutes.

@@Athos, Sorry was a satire question. thank you for answering though. I plan on growing outdoors as well I mean I already have just am not right now 😟. I love growing indoor hydro I really do there's no "troubles" anywhere lol 😁

Garden is looking awesome! That canopy is a thing of pure envy! I agree with you about flushing Cannabis. I know a grower that flushes for 2 weeks before harvest and another "old-timer" who never flushes... And both of their buds taste amazing. I flush because, like you said, it makes me feel good and i tell myself that it's good, even though it's based on nothing more than wishful thinking. I do know that a fair number of commercial hydroponic growers of things like lettuce, mint and tomatoes do periodic flushes but my understanding is that it has more to do with flushing and cleaning the delivery system of dried nutrients/salt buildup, rather than for any reasons of taste or final quality of the produce. I'd be curious if anyone can find info on commercial food producers who flush for "increased quality". I can't wait to see your garden in full bloom... Especially that Blue Cookies 😍. Looks amazing! 👍
Darkwarsongs
Darkwarsongscommented5 years ago
@VanCplGrows, Thank you very much. It's definitely shaping up to be an Impressive haul. I totally understand the need to "flush" the system of the nutrients in hydro systems and I do this weekly(tip for all you new folks). I like how you know two different growers doing different things with the same end results. With you as the end user being like both are good ha ha ha. I would love to hear from any Commercial food grower really, especially the ones that eat their own produce lol. I'm looking quite forward to seeing the garden in full bloom as well 😁
