New year, new grow. Zkittlez will be grown together with two other plants in separate diaries. Tent size is 60x120 cm² and I'm using five Sanlight S2W with each 62 Watt (from wall), so I'm calculating 0.24 m² and 103 Watt per plant.
Germination started on 27.12.2019 and she broke ground on New Year's Day. Everything is fine so far.
Zkittlez is growing just fine. Not slow, but also not exceptionally fast like the HiJack. I noticed some brown spots on the leaves that look like Calcium deficiency. Not sure if this is possible at this early stage. Maybe I will add a tiny amount of CalMag to their first feeding.
Leaves are looking a bit crumpled. But I already know this from my first grow; it does not mean anything.
I have no idea what is wrong with this plant. I will continue trying to grow her, but I started a new one just in case. Space should not be an issue anymore. Four plants are too much only when they are all growing really huge.
I wouldn't worry about it mate. I had very strange growth on my green crack but it turned out to be killer bud in the end and finished very quickly! 👍🌱
Zkittlez seems to recover. I still have no idea what caused this strange growth. Maybe genetics, overwatering or lights too close. As I was unsure if she will make it, I started another one in a separate directory. I will grow her as long as space permits.
Zkittlez had a great comeback this week. All the new growth is looking perfectly healthy. And she is also stretching very nicely. Since plants are all of very different size, I re-arranged the pots and the lights in order to make best use of all the resources. All lights are on meanwhile.
This lady has stretched 40cm in the last week, making her the tallest plant in the tent now. I almost cannot believe she made it because in week 3 I thought she might die. She has the same perfect structure as the HiJack. The lower branches are somewhat underdeveloped, but she compensates this with her upper branches. Looks absolutely healthy and happy.
I hope she will stop stretching soon, I have only some 10cm of headroom left. At least she is slowing down, she "only" grew 3cm in the last 24 hours. So she probably will use up the available height completely.
Finally she has stopped stretching. Just in time. Because of the problems in week 3, I reduced the light intensity, so I did not succeed keeping her low like her sister. I prefer all the branches having similar height, but do not want to stress the plants. Anyway, she is looking beautiful!
Day 52. It has been a rough week. I noticed some leaves turning very yellow, it looks like Mg deficiency. So I increased BioGrow and gave some Cal-Mag. But the following days it became even worse: Many leaves showing ugly brown spots, they appeared almost overnight and spread very quickly. I have no idea what it is, it pretty much reminds me of the problems in week 3 with this lady. I do not think the problem is the absence of needed nutrients, but rather the plant's inability to uptake them. Maybe I overwatered her and the suffocated roots could not do their job. Or this strain is just very sensitive to something I did not yet identify. I did not water her for three days now and only gave a smaller amount of water today. Hope she recovers once again. Maybe it was too much Mg which locked out Cal? So many questions...
It is day 59 and problems have gotten even worse. No matter what I do, the plant is looking pathetic. Her sister is doing fine under exactly the same conditions. Buds are small and underdeveloped and are maturing. I have more or less given up on this plant. I might still get some harvest but I expect quality to be equally affected as quantity. Nevertheless I'm curious how it will turn out. My main grief is that she is occupying a lot of precious grow space.
This lady was chopped on day 64. Of course this is a bit early, but she was just too severely damaged and rather than hoping to increase the harvest by one gramm I prefer to provide better conditions (more space) for the other ones. I checked the trichomes and most of them were already cloudy and some still clear which is to be expected for such an early harvest. I will add the harvest week once the budlets are try and I can put them into a jar.
This strain is not easy to grow, at least it wasn't for me. When everything is perfect, she will grow like crazy. But she demands that everything is perfect. The slightest mistake can severely damage her. But I was surprised by the outcome! I would have expected something like 10 to 20g, but it was more than the double.
But the best is the quality! This is the best weed I've grown so far! The buds are tiny, but they are dense and hard as hell. Obviously the plant has put all her energy into producing buds when she realized her leaves are in bad shape. Drying went very fast because of their size and the low RH, so it took only 4 days.
Smell and taste are spectacular even without any curing. Very spicy and sweet. The effect is quite strong, both on the head and the body. Great balance and it is long lasting. It is very uplifting and relaxing and I can sleep like a baby in the arms of her mother.
I'm curious how this will turn out after curing. This strain could be a 10 if she would be more robust and forgiving. I'm glad I did not start growing with this strain; I certainly would have been frustrated. I hope so much her sister will provide the same quality!
Last time I smoked something better must have been back in the eighties in Amsterdam.
What a pleasant surprise! Yield was much bigger than I would have expected given her bad shape. The density of the buds is just insane. The container I'm using for weighing normally is more than full with 40g of buds, but the 43g of this plant would fill it only by about 70%. The buds are hard as rocks and extremely sticky. Smell and taste are celestial. I can only dream how this will improve in the coming months. If you manage to provide her the conditions she demands, she could easily provide much more than 100g. Now this is my goal for her sister.
I think it was a very good idea to grow in winter instead of summer. Temperatures and RH were almost in the ideal range throughout the whole grow. Maybe the lower temperatures are the reason for the fantastic aroma. Best I ever smelled so far.
@Mrs_Larimar, at least Zkittlez does not really feel well. I just added a picture from today which shows that the problem with the brown spots got even worse 😧
Good luck with that grow ! The Fast buds version of the Zkittles was very tasty and compact for me, you'll really enjoy that grow.
Ps: I love your 1st picture 😍
@OutForReal, @Mrs_Larimar : Thank you for the encouragement! When two grandmasters agree, they are probably right 😊 My main focus is on the HiJack anyway, because I wanted to grow a Sativa dominant strain. The Zkittlez is only there in order not to waste space and other resources.
@Buddha2, I would not be pessimistic at all , to me it's just the plant that is "adjusting" to the soil, maybe she's sensitive to the ph.
It's looks like a cal issue like you said but at that young age and with a fresh soil I can't imagine that the roots can't suck the appropriate amount.
I feel like it can "heal" by itself but keep an eye on it.
@Mrs_larimar, what do you think about it ?
Hey, I totally feel your pain with these issues! Have you looked into rust at all?
One of mine was doing something similar and was never able to figure it out for my situation. Though I did notice the run off on my problem plant was significantly higher than the rest, have you checked that?? If it is, then a flush might not be a bad idea to clear out the soil if roots have locked out and aren't taking up the nutrients. At least it's an isolated issue and the others are rocking nicely!!
@CrankledLarkus, thanks a lot for this tip! I agree that it is probably too late for the current run, but I surely will keep this in mind for the future. Big thanks again! 👍
@Buddha2, Hygrozyme comes in great to resolve any root issues! I know it's probably a bit late now, but it breaks down any dead organic material which the plant will consume.
I had some root rot going on and after using some, they were pearly white when it came time to transplant
@CrankledLarkus, I think the problem was overwatering. The HiJack also was affected, but only to some lesser extent. I gave the same amount of water as in my last grow, but did not take into account that due to the lower temperatures in winter they need way less. And if roots are damaged or suffocated, they cannot uptake any nutrients, so you can see the symptoms of every deficiency in parallel in full glory. Definitely a lesson learned. I was extra careful in this respect with her sister and so far things are looking fairly good. Thanks for stopping by and leaving your encouraging comment!
@Mrs_Larimar, I do 😄 She is finally slowing down a bit. Only 2cm the last day. So now we are at 105 cm. But it is getting very, very tight now. So far I only had plants where all the branches were of similar height. But this Zkittlez has a very dominant main branch, so topping would have been a good idea in this case maybe. Well, there's still so much to learn for the future...
I think your growth was very similar to mine Zkittlez auto. The buds were really dense and heavy and definitely yielded more than the eye could guess.
Got two plants and the second one was quite tricky to grow but I managed to keep out from deficiency by using Cal+Mag+Fe additive at the early stage. Indeed smoke is great but I'm not quite sure I'll grow this strain again.
Anyhow. Congrats, on the harvest 😀
@ReinDeer, thanks a lot! I'm amazed by the dark green color of the buds. The others always were quite light. But I will certainly grow this strain again and would like to avoid all those problems. I see it as a challenge and the result tastes so great!
Wow, Big Progress here, all looking healthy and happy. Around Day 20 there is a big change happened... what have you done there=? or didi she decide to grow " anständig"?
Ya pulled some solid looking buds and yield that’s forsure, just about the same maybe even a tad more then on my Zkittlez grow.
I had some really weird issues with one of plants and they all seemed different at harvest so I feel where your coming from with how perfect everything has to be with this plant lol
Happy growing !
@SirDillton, I just re-checked your diary and yes, you had very similar problems as me. It's nice to know that it was not entirely my own fault 😊 But nevertheless I need to grow this strain again. It just tastes too good!
@Mrs_Larimar, "little green lady"? 😃 Luckily the stretch is over, she stopped at 112cm. And this is more or less the maximum anyway. I cannot longer have a light directly above her and distance is a mere 10cm now. But I know from my former grow that this is still ok.
@Greeneyedgrower, thanks! Meanwhile she is looking even more spectacular. She has stretched to almost 1m (more than 6cm per day) in the last week. Will update tomorrow, but I'm already deeply impressed.
I have no clue too, what she got. By one Hand i would say genetics, seems to be more sensitive to the conditions. But sometimes its like... they just look like this. You wont win abeauty contest, but i thinks she gives you a harvest, lets watch her.
@Mrs_Larimar, this is exactly the plan. I'm surprised how much she has already recovered, new leaves are looking quite fine. Maybe she will even surprise me in the end. We will see. At least it's not boring 😄
Hey there,
Thanks so much for running a diary of our Zkittlez Auto🙌
Let us know if you need any assistance, we’re more than happy to help.
Happy Growing !!! 🌱☘️🌴🍀🌿🌳
@Fast_Buds, thanks! Can you tell me what might be wrong with the plant (see last picture taken on day 11 after breaking ground)? Can this really be some deficiency so early in the cycle? All three plants in the tent share the same environment and conditions, but only Zkittlez is affected by the problem.
Looks like it's doing well- I'm currently doing a Fastbuds Zkittlez and I have super cropped it. It's taken very well too it and is showing no signs of stress. I wouldnt worry too much, I've also had Autos stunt in the past and turn out too be the best plants at the end. Check out my diaries if you get a chance! Happy growing
