New year, new grow. Zkittlez will be grown together with two other plants in separate diaries. Tent size is 60x120 cm² and I'm using five Sanlight S2W with each 62 Watt (from wall), so I'm calculating 0.24 m² and 103 Watt per plant.
Germination started on 27.12.2019 and she broke ground on New Year's Day. Everything is fine so far.
Zkittlez is growing just fine. Not slow, but also not exceptionally fast like the HiJack. I noticed some brown spots on the leaves that look like Calcium deficiency. Not sure if this is possible at this early stage. Maybe I will add a tiny amount of CalMag to their first feeding.
Leaves are looking a bit crumpled. But I already know this from my first grow; it does not mean anything.
I have no idea what is wrong with this plant. I will continue trying to grow her, but I started a new one just in case. Space should not be an issue anymore. Four plants are too much only when they are all growing really huge.
I wouldn't worry about it mate. I had very strange growth on my green crack but it turned out to be killer bud in the end and finished very quickly! 👍🌱
Zkittlez seems to recover. I still have no idea what caused this strange growth. Maybe genetics, overwatering or lights too close. As I was unsure if she will make it, I started another one in a separate directory. I will grow her as long as space permits.
Zkittlez had a great comeback this week. All the new growth is looking perfectly healthy. And she is also stretching very nicely. Since plants are all of very different size, I re-arranged the pots and the lights in order to make best use of all the resources. All lights are on meanwhile.
This lady has stretched 40cm in the last week, making her the tallest plant in the tent now. I almost cannot believe she made it because in week 3 I thought she might die. She has the same perfect structure as the HiJack. The lower branches are somewhat underdeveloped, but she compensates this with her upper branches. Looks absolutely healthy and happy.
I hope she will stop stretching soon, I have only some 10cm of headroom left. At least she is slowing down, she "only" grew 3cm in the last 24 hours. So she probably will use up the available height completely.
Finally she has stopped stretching. Just in time. Because of the problems in week 3, I reduced the light intensity, so I did not succeed keeping her low like her sister. I prefer all the branches having similar height, but do not want to stress the plants. Anyway, she is looking beautiful!
Day 52. It has been a rough week. I noticed some leaves turning very yellow, it looks like Mg deficiency. So I increased BioGrow and gave some Cal-Mag. But the following days it became even worse: Many leaves showing ugly brown spots, they appeared almost overnight and spread very quickly. I have no idea what it is, it pretty much reminds me of the problems in week 3 with this lady. I do not think the problem is the absence of needed nutrients, but rather the plant's inability to uptake them. Maybe I overwatered her and the suffocated roots could not do their job. Or this strain is just very sensitive to something I did not yet identify. I did not water her for three days now and only gave a smaller amount of water today. Hope she recovers once again. Maybe it was too much Mg which locked out Cal? So many questions...
It is day 59 and problems have gotten even worse. No matter what I do, the plant is looking pathetic. Her sister is doing fine under exactly the same conditions. Buds are small and underdeveloped and are maturing. I have more or less given up on this plant. I might still get some harvest but I expect quality to be equally affected as quantity. Nevertheless I'm curious how it will turn out. My main grief is that she is occupying a lot of precious grow space.
This lady was chopped on day 64. Of course this is a bit early, but she was just too severely damaged and rather than hoping to increase the harvest by one gramm I prefer to provide better conditions (more space) for the other ones. I checked the trichomes and most of them were already cloudy and some still clear which is to be expected for such an early harvest. I will add the harvest week once the budlets are try and I can put them into a jar.
What a pleasant surprise! Yield was much bigger than I would have expected given her bad shape. The density of the buds is just insane. The container I'm using for weighing normally is more than full with 40g of buds, but the 43g of this plant would fill it only by about 70%. The buds are hard as rocks and extremely sticky. Smell and taste are celestial. I can only dream how this will improve in the coming months. If you manage to provide her the conditions she demands, she could easily provide much more than 100g. Now this is my goal for her sister.
I think it was a very good idea to grow in winter instead of summer. Temperatures and RH were almost in the ideal range throughout the whole grow. Maybe the lower temperatures are the reason for the fantastic aroma. Best I ever smelled so far.
