This is my first grow! I am planning on doing an organic living soil grow. I chose White Widow Feminized seeds from Seedsman. I am growing in a 4x2 tent, with a KingBrite LED 320W Quantum Board with Samsung lm301h LEDs. I am starting these 2 seeds out in 1 gal fabric pots, and will eventually transplant to 8 gal fabric pots.
My soil mix includes: Fox Farms Ocean Forest Soil, Purple Cow Compost, Worm Castings, Perlite, Down to Earth Seedling Mix, Azomite. I activated the soil with some RO water and liquid seaweed, molasses and URB. I started these seeds in shot glasses, and once I saw the tap root I transplanted to the soil. Started with a 100W bulb, and at day 3 switched to my big light. Looking forward to this grow!
They seem to be loving the extra light! They are growing fast. I am trying to find a balance between watered and dry, but the temps have been reaching 80F so it dries out quickly. The stem of plant #1 was leaning and nearly fell under the weight of the leaves. I added soil and set it upright. Watered with URB mixture and RO water, not sure if overfeeding but they seem happy!
This week they grew very fast! Extremely tight node spacing, they were about to create a 6th node, so I FIMed the top. This is my first grow so I am new to this technique, but it seems to be the easiest way to create a larger canopy. I plan on eventually ScrOGing them, so I hope this will help! I have started brewing a compost tea for them since they have been growing so rapidly the past couple days. I noticed a slight yellowing of some of my leaves but nothing drastic, also some curling but nothing that looks unhealthy. On the day I FIMed them, I watered once lightly, waited 45 minutes, and then watered again and I found this was a great way to fully saturate the soil. The soil has stayed moist without watering for a couple days. My temps are 78F during the day, 66-68F during the night, im not sure why it displays 50F when I create my diaries. Also, the smell of the plants has become quite noticeable, way earlier than I expected so I'll have to grab a carbon filter soon!
This week I was gone for a trip for the majority of the time, and it seems while I was away they have struggled a little. The photos are from before I left, and I watered with a compost tea. They enjoyed that but soon after I left they looked droopy and I noticed some of the bottom leaves on the canopy were yellowing. I am not sure if this a nitrogen deficiency. Slightly worried but they look mostly healthy otherwise. I realize that I must have not FIMed far down enough, as it seems it has continued to grow normally. I may try to FIM again, along with some LST next week.
This week they did not do great, since I was away they did not get enough water. I noticed some of my bottom leaves were yellowing and dying, so I top dressed with 1tbsp of bat guano to try to remediate the nitrogen deficiency. I have been LSTing the branches down to bush out the plant as much as possible, and it looks like the tips of the FIMed stems are emerging finally. I repotted into 8 gal fabric pots, and added clover seeds on top so hopefully I will be able to keep the top soil moist. I watered them with a compost tea once I had repotted. They seem to love the new pots! Day temps 81, night temps 68.
They have been doing great post transplant, and soaking up the nutrients. The yellowing on bottom leaves is going away/has not continued. I am feeding with regular RO water, and will feed a compost tea next week. They are getting too tall, so I have started LSTing more seriously. I plan on bending them over and turning 90 degrees every day or two, they seemed to do well after the first day of LST.
Experimenting with LST, since it my first grow. I was able to bush out my plant significantly by LSTing during this week, and make sure my plants dont get too tall. They seem to be loving the soil and have seen no deficiencies. Currently brewing compost tea.
Put up trellis to help the spread out, I would have switched to flower but I have been waiting for a carbon filter. They are doing well, loving the compost tea I brewed for them and drinking much more water. I increased light intensity to 90%, will turn to 100% for flower.
Still been waiting for carbon filter to switch to flower. It finally came! I have it all set up and will switch to flower on the first day of next week (saturday the 28th). They've been vegging for 60+days now, I hope they don't stretch too much. Just been watering with RO water.
Finally switched them to flower! Did a heavy defoliation, and lollipopped them a bit prior to the switch. I also brewed a big batch of compost tea with a bunch of organic flower nutrients (down to earth). By the 3rd day of flower they had recovered from defoliation and were soaking up the nutrients. They have been growing extremely fast! I had to add a second trellis net because of height. I have learned that next grow I should LST the stems earlier, to spread out wider if I have only 2 plants in this tent. I should also top them multiple times, the leading stems are growing much taller than the rest. Very happy right now though, all seems to be going well and I am brewing another batch of compost tea to feed them at day 13 of flower.
2nd weed of flower has been great! They are growing fast every day, and drinking lots of water. This week I brewed a compost tea for them and they seem to have enjoyed it. I am working hard to spread them out and even out the canopy, I should have worked harder to LST. I am currently sprouting some seeds for my next grow, and having some troubles with that so most of my attention has been there. Let me know if anyone has had any issues with root aphids killing their germinating seeds in soil!!
This week went quickly, simply watered with RO water and replaced the trellis net. Did some defoliation because lower leaves weren't getting enough light. They are making good progress! I will make another compost tea at later next week. They are starting to smell very good, like berries!
This week I fed them with a flower compost tea, 3L per plant. I noticed browning on some of the pistils, and realize it is much too early for that. I think that my temperature was too high and the plants were overheating. I have turned down the intensity of my light, and have been able to lower the daytime temps to around 78F. I am hoping this will keep my plants happy! Otherwise they are cruising, but drinking lots of water. Starting to smell really good, like berries!
Seems like they are starting to pack on some weight! They are smelling much louder, and I can see the sugar leafs covered in trichomes. I have been aiming to keep the soil moist, and watering about 2-3L per plant every other day. This seems to be keeping them happy, but it is also causing my humidity to stay slightly higher than I would like. It has been hovering around 60 recently, and in the coming weeks im going to have to make sure to lower that.
They are on autopilot, I am watering heavily (2.5-3L RO water per plant) every other day. I am brewing a final compost tea tomorrow, and after that they will be on only water again. I am looking forward to harvest! They smell very strongly!
Watered with a compost tea at the beginning of this week. They seem to be relatively happy, but am getting nutrient burn on leaves, and some are yellowing. I am pretty sure which ingredient caused this and I will not include it again. they are smelling VERY strong and putting on a lot of trichomes. I have also noticed some fox tailing. I am unsure if that is genetic or caused by something I am doing.
Watering regularly, the plants seem happy. They are continuing to put on bud size and trichomes. more fox tailing on many buds. Trichomes are starting to become cloudy from clear.
They are still on autopilot, am continuing to feed with just RO water. Heavy watering every other day, light watering each day to keep soil moist. They have many dead fan leaves which made me slightly worried, and I wanted to avoid budrot so i made sure to keep the humidity down. I am watching the trichomes closely. They are not quite cloudy yet. It seems that the right plant (WW #2) is more mature, and has more cloudy trichomes than the #1. I think they are relatively close to harvest, especially since I prefer an uplifting high and I want to avoid too much CBN forming.
Continuing the watering pattern. Not seeing many changes. Still looking closely at trichomes but still need some time. I think that the end of next week will be harvest time!
Finally harvest! I started noticing amber on some trichomes on WW #2 and I dont want her to be over ripe so I decided now was the time. It looks like some trichs on WW #1 are still clear but I am okay with that! Taking these down was quite a bit of work, took me about 4 hours. I trimmed off any popcorn or larfy nugs and put them in ziplocks in the freezer(I plan to make bubble hash). There was a solid amount of larf, and next grow I will know to train more and aim to get more of a canopy. I basically trimmed all nugs that didnt look worthy to smoke. I got rid of any dead leaves and fan leaves. I hung them in my tent with a lot of moving air but no direct fans. I am aiming to keep the humidity at 45-60%, usually on the lower side. I hope they have enough breathing room, I dont really have a better drying solution right now and I know they are a bit cramped but I hope all will be okay! I will keep checking on them, and slowly lower the RH over the drying period. I will be back once they are ready for curing!
Finally done trimming and jarring all my buds! It took about 4 hours to trim each plant, and I only did a marginal trim, left many of the sugar leaves.
Unfortunately it seems I over dried my nugs, and once I jarred them they were around 50% RH. I should have had my vent fan on a lower setting, but I didn't realize until too late. Thankfully they all still smell pungent and I am hoping I can bring the RH up. I have tried putting fresh fan leaves from my other grow in the jars to see if this raises the RH, if not ill resort to using Bovedas. I've noticed I lose some smell on my flower I use Bovedas on, but it might be worth it if my other attempts don't work.
I pressed some flower rosin from the buds I harvested and it tasted amazing! Additionally, I tried to make bubble hash for the first time with my fresh frozen. Although my yields were tiny(I didnt wash for long enough) I was able to press the bubble hash and make some live rosin.
The high from the White Widow is mainly sativa, very heady and very focused. Extremely enjoyable high, and tastes great too. Notes of berries, peppers, and a lot of lemon.
Thanks for following! Check my page for other diaries i've got going on now!
@devilspeakcannabis, good plan. On a side note, adding some circulation fans should help strengthen your stem. But the main problem is the stretch. You can bring your light closer to the plants to slow down the stretch. Just don't make it too hot. Your temp says 50degF, but I assume that is the incorrect temp.
@MovingOn, thank you!! I plan on amending with compost teas! I’m hoping that the nutrients in the soil + the compost teas will be enough. I will also add organic fertilizer to the soil mix when I transplant!
@BruceBlack, thank you!! I have white clover planted as a companion crop, it has kept the top soil moist and I plan on planting it in my upcoming grows as well!
Awesome harvest! congrats. Looks like the hanging branches have got ample room - those are some big colas to dry thoroughly 👌
Should be a wonderful taste after curing! I love this strain 😎
We’re hoping to try a living soil this spring! It’s a little more but for plant friendly ! I think it gets a better end product but I would definitely say there’s more to go wrong but it will make you a better grower! 🙏good luck
